It's ok about my Mom. I've walked in on her having sex enough to get used to it. (Including but not limited to, my sixth grade math teacher, my seventh grade music teacher, her personal trainer, a hotel bell boy, the mail man and a random guy who I think wandered into our house by mistake). So yeah, you get used to it after a while. And don't even mention what my dad was doing during all this.
Thanks for the 'no pity' thing. It's true, no matter how people try to sympathise, there isn't anything they can do. Your parents are your parents and you have to accept that. Growing up, I resented my parents for everything: How they alternated between embarrassing and ignoring me, and used me as a pawn in their divorce but I'm over it now thankfully.
I confronted my Mom once. Called her out on all her crap. I was glad I did it, but ultimately I know nothing will change. I've got on without them, basically since I was a teenager and I've turned out ok. (Sarcastic, defensive, commitment phobia and deep self-loathing notwithstanding).
Did you ever talk to your parents about everything they did? Sucks about your best friend and brother. I remember being so jealous of my friends who had happy, normal, 'perfect' families. That's good your parents were happy though. You're right about how valuable that is growing up. You actually have a model to copy! (The fear of having a marriage like my parent's, is the main reason for my commitment phobia. Is it possible to escape your parent's examples? Or are we all doomed to repeat their mistakes?)
There, I've revealed a ton of dysfunctions and neuroses and issues. You should feel special.

My favourite animal...I'm going to say rabbits. I know. You're not going to believe I'm not gay after this! But they're y'know...nice and cuddly and...Ok, hell I mean 'cute', if I say that without sounding gay.
I'll ask a different question. If you were an animal, what animal would you be? (And that's very different from your favourite animal. Because I love bunnies, but I'm definitely not cute). But an animal that's most like me is probably a duck. A bit weird, quirky and awkward I guess. And I'm going to disagree with you on dogs being the most loyal animals, because trust me ducks beat them out on that scale. (Can I tell you something I've never confessed to anyone? I hate dogs. They're needy, they're jumpy and you can't tell what they're thinking! And that scares me a little bit! Grab your pitchforks now).

P.S Totally relate on depending on friends when you live in the city. I moved into the same apartment block as one of my friends, just after graduating College. We were both confused and didn't have a hell of an idea of what we were doing, and just hung together and built a whole 'family' around us, with various roommates and siblings. Who knows where I'd have ended up without them.
