Ron, Hermione, and I gasped. "Harry, what did you just do?!" Ron asked.
"You attacked a teacher!" Hermione exclaimed.
"Oh, Snape is going to kill you..." I trailed off.
But Harry wasn't paying attention. "Tell me about Peter Pettigrew."
Lupin started. "He was at school with us. We thought he was our friend!"
"No, Pettigrew's dead. You," he pointed the Sirius. "Killed him!"
"No, he didn't. I thought so too until you mentioned seeing Pettigrew on the map!"
"The map was lying, then." Harry said.
"The map never lies." I said at the same time as Sirius. Harry looked from me to Sirius.
"It's true." I shrugged.
Sirius continued. "Pettigrew's alive. And he's right there!" He pointed to Ron.
"Me? That's mental!"
"Not you! Your rat!"
"Scabbers has been in my family for-" Ron still didn't believe it.
"Twelve years?" Sirius asked. "Curiously long life for a common garden rat! He's missing a toe, isn't he?"
"So what?"
Harry started talking. "All they could find of Pettigrew was his-"
"Finger!" Sirius cried. It all started to make sense now. "Dirty coward cuf it off so everyone would think he was dead! And then he transformed into a rat!"
"Show me." Harry said.
Sirius dove, attempting to take 'Scabbers' from Ron's grasp. Ron was strugglibg.
"Give it to him Ron." Harry instructed.
"What are you trying to do to him?"
"Ron, hand it to him." I said calmly.
They finally got a hold of the rat. Ron wasn't happy. "Scabbers! Leave him alone!"
They held him up, wands pointed. Many times they attempted to hit him with some kind of spell, when just as he was about to escape, a man appeared.
Sirius and Lupin pulled him out. My jaw dropped. Pettigrew pretended to act surprised. "Remus? Sirius? My old friends!" He tried to hug them but they threw him back.
He turned to me. "Megan, look at you, you look so much like Alyssa... She was just as beautiful-"
"Get off me!" I shoved him away.
"And Harry, you look so much like your father, like James, we were the best of friends-"
"How dare you speak to Harry and my daughter!" He growled. "How dare you talk about James and Alyssa in front of them!" Pettigrew ran off, but they trapped him.
"You killed Alyssa and sold James and Lily to Voldemort!" Lupin accused.
"I didn't mean to!" Pettigrew whined. "The Dark Lord, you have no idea... The weapons he possesses! Ask yourself, Sirius! What would you have done?"
"I would've died! I would rather die than have to betray my friends!" Sirius yelled.
Pettigrew crawled under the piano and tried to escape, but Harry blocked the door. Pettigrew tried to whisper things to him. "Oh, Harry. James wouldn't have wanted me killed! Your dad would have spared me! He would have shown me mercy!"
Sirius and Lupin pulled him away.
"You should have realized if Voldemort didn't kill you, we would! Together!" Sirius cried.
"No!" Harry yelled.
Silence. We all turned to Harry in surprise.
"Harry. This man-"
"I know what he is. But we'll take him to the castle." Harry said.
Pettigrew dropped to his knees. "Bless you, boy. Bless you!"
"Get off!" Harry jumped back. "I said we'd take you to the castle. After that the dementors can have you."
Pettigrew bit his nails nervously.
Sirius and Harry helped Ron through the passage while Hermione and I followed behind.
"Sorry about the bite. I reckon it twinges a bit." Sirius said.
"A bit? A bit? You almost tore my leg off!" Ron exclaimed.
"I was going for the rat. Normally, I have a very sweet disposition as a dog. Infact more than once, James suggested I make the change permanent. The tail I could lie with. The fleas, they're murder. Besides, Alyssa would've hated it." He said. I grinned.
They dropped off Ron by a rock, while Sirius went to look at the castle, I followed him.
"You are so much like your mother, you know." Sirius told me.
"So I've heard." I sighed.
Harry came up behind us. I gave him a small smile.
"It's beautiful, isn't it?" Sirius asked. "I'll never forget the first time I walked through those doors. It'll be nice to do it again as a free man. That was a noble thing you did back there, Harry. He doesn't deserve it."
"I don't think my dad would have wanted his two best friends to become killers." Harry stated. I nodded. "Besides, dead, the truth dies with him."
"Alive, you're free."
We turned to see Pettigrew being brought out of the tunnel. He was begging for them to not have the dementors torture him. I shook my head. "I hate him."
"We all do." Sirius- well, dad, I guess- agreed. "I don't know if you know, Harry, but when you were born, James and Lily made me your godfather."
"I know."
"I can understand if both of you want to stay with your aunts and uncles but if you ever wanted a different home..."
"What? Come and live with you?" Harry asked.
"It's just a thought. I can understand if you don't want to."
"I'm in for it." I grinned. "Your my father. Besides, you're much better than my aunt and uncle. I think Harry agrees with me."
"Harry!" Hermione cried.
We turned to her and she pointed to something. We all turned again to see the full moon peeking out from a cloud. My eyes widened. Lupin...
Dad ran to him and I went to protect the trio. "Keep behind me." I hissed. Dad was trying to get Lupin to stay human but it clearly wasn't working.
Pettigrew picked up the dropped wand and raised it but Harry stopped him. "Expelliarmus!"
Pettigrew turned to him, waved, and turned into a rat.
"No! Stupify! Petrificus totalus!" I tried to stop him but I missed as the rat ran away.
Lupin screamed. I noticed his fingernails grow into claws. "Remus! Remus!" Dad yelled. Then his shirt ripped when his back arched. "Run! Run!"
"Harry, Hermione, Ron, come on!" I urged, but they ignored me.
The transformation was horrifying. To watch your DADA teacher turn into a werewofl is really scary.
He threw Dad off of him and I ran to him. "Are you okay?" I asked.
"Megan... Protect Harry and the others. Let me deal with him." He instructed.
"You're sure you'll be alright?"
"I can't make any promises." He said as we both heard Lupin howl. I looked at him and then back at Dad but he was gone. Just then a black dog jumped on him. I ran up to the trio.
I noticed Snape was there too.
We all watched Lupin and Sirius fight for a while. But then it got bad and I stepped forward. "Get behind me, Black." He growled.
I looked between Snape and the intense fight between Lupin and Snape.
Well, I wans't sorted into Gryffindor for nothing.
I ran at the wolf, pulling out my wand. I chased after them. I was suddenly aware of Harry following me.
All you could see was the silhoutte of Lupin hurting Dad. I pointed my wand at a boulder not too close, but close to the werewolf.
"Reducto!"
It exploded and Lupin was distracted for a second. "RUN DAD!" I screamed.
Lupin turned to Harry and I angrily. "Harry run."
"No."
"Harry..."
Lupin tried to go back to Dad since he was fighting him again. Harry threw a rock at Lupin's head. He turned to us, now infuriated, and growled.
He made his way towards us, claw raised.
"Stupify!"
Didn't work.
"Damnit." I muttered, I stood in front of Harry. Lupin cut my arm and I was knocked to the side. He advanced on Harry but then a feminine wolf howl was heard. Lupin paused before heading in the direction of the voice.
I stood up warily and noticed Dad stumbling down a hill, clearly hurt. Clutching my wounded arm. I went after him.
We both made our way towards wherever he was, which was in the forest, by the lake.
He was lying unconscious near the water. "Sirius!"
"Dad!"
Harry ran to him and I stumbled after him and collapsed mid-way. "Sirius!"
Just then everything went cold. I looked up and I froze in fear.
Dementors. Hundreds of them. Circling us.
One swooped down and attacked Dad. Harry stood up. "Expecto Patronum!"
A bright white light escaped from his wand, protecting him, Dad, and I. But it was gone quickly.
One came to me, and the horrid feeling from the train returned. But it was worse and it was happening to Harry and Dad too. It was the worst thing anyone could ever possibly feel.
Just then I saw a small white light hovering over dad's mouth. It was his soul.
I tried to get up but I fell, my cut hitting the sharp gravel. I yelped in pain before rolling over. I noticed something from the other side of the lake. It was a stag. A white stag. Followed by a huge white light. The dementors flew away, but I fell unconscious.
