I don't own Austin & Ally
Ella's POV
"Ella…"
You know the feeling when you know a voice like the back of your hand but you can't figure out who's talking? That's exactly how I feel right now. The voice though…it was so deep and thick with emotion. It was as if whoever it belonged to was on the verge of having some kind of emotional break. I know one thing though; it was definitely a guy's voice…
"I would never leave you. You are my world."
I know whoever this voice belongs to must be incredibly close to me. He keeps whispering all these really sweet, sincere comments.
"Ells…I love you so much."
Oh. My. Goodness. Only Toby calls me that! How could I not tell that was Toby? Well, he is acting pretty strange and I couldn't see his face until I figured out who he was. Weird…
"Toby, what are you doing?" I heard myself ask as he got closer to me. His face held an odd emotion that I couldn't decipher.
"If you want me to stop…just say so" he whispered, leaning in. My eyes widened as I realized he was about to kiss me. Why am I not stopping him? What is wrong with me!?
But the strange thing is….I don't want to stop him.
Instead, I just started leaning in towards him, hoping I wouldn't regret this. I was about to find out what it was like to kiss a guy-my best friend. Right as his lips were about to come to rest on mine…
*BOOM!*
I shot awake in my bed as thunder struck, very loud I might add. My heart was still racing from that crazy dream I was just having. My goodness, why didn't I stop him!? I know for a fact I don't like Toby like that. I mean, he's my best friend and he would never like me either. That's been decided since we were little.
So why do I feel a little disappointed that I couldn't finish that dream?
"Ella?"
I looked up to see Emma standing in the doorway, clutching her teddy-bear that Toby and I got her for her first Christmas. It was so cute that the bear is her favorite thing in the world like mine used to be my doll. Yes, I still have the doll but I don't need it like I did as a child.
"What is it Em?" I asked. She bit her lip timidly and didn't say anything. I smiled a little and pulled my covers off, scooting over to where there was more room. She immediately ran over and launched herself onto the bed, burying her face in my pillow. She gasped when another clap of lightening came.
"They s-said it w-wasn't supposed to s-storm today" Emma stuttered. I feel bad for her. The twins have always been pretty afraid of storms, but especially Emma. Evan tries to act all tough about it now that he's older.
"It's alright Em, sometimes we have pop-up thunderstorms in the summer" I told her, wrapping an arm around her.
"Well I don't like them" she muttered. I laughed a little.
"I don't either, but Em, it's just-"
"Don't you dare say it's two clouds bumping heads*" she said in a muffled voice from under the covers that she had over her head. I smiled and pulled the covers back a bit.
"No" I said rolling my eyes. "It's God moving his furniture*"
"Seriously?" she asked doubtfully.
"Oh totally" I said waving a hand dismissively.
"Then why does the lightning strike people down and kill them?" she asked. I blinked. Crap, she's smart.
"Alright, I don't know everything about thunderstorms but you don't have to be afraid of them. You're inside and safe. It's just a loud noise and flashes of light. And you gotta admit, it makes for an awesome movie scene" I said smiling down at her.
"You mean like you and Toby kissing in the rain?" she asked.
"Yeah-wait. What? No. Why would you say that?"
"Kidding" she giggled. I rolled my eyes, trying hard to think of something besides that stupid dream I was having. Not working.
"Hey guys…"
I looked towards the door to see Evan standing there, holding a blanket. He doesn't admit it to anyone, but I know that's his favorite thing like Emma's is a teddy-bear. It's a twin sized blanket he carries around the house, saying he gets cold. I just smile whenever he makes that excuse.
"Evan, you scared of the storm too?" I asked smiling. He immediately shook his head.
"No, of course not. I was just, uh, looking for Em to ask if she's seen my…cookies" he said. What a lame excuse. That's another reason I love my brother.
"You ate them all yesterday" Emma said, moving back under the covers with a squeal as another clap of thunder struck. I noticed Evan jumped a little too, and was looking around the room every couple of seconds.
"Hey Evan, you want to sleep in here tonight with us?" I asked. He started to shake his head, but when another clap of thunder hit, he changed his answer and jumped in the bed on the other side of me where Emma wasn't already laying.
"Only because I don't wanna be lonely with you guys in here and Mom, Dad and Toby all gone" Evan said.
I nodded, before comprehending what he said. "Wait, what do you mean Mom, Dad and Toby are all gone?"
"No one's here but us" he said. "I checked Mom and Dad's room when I first heard the lightning-uh, you know, to see if Em was in there." I rolled my eyes at that and he continued, "And then I went downstairs to see if I misplaced my cookies, but Toby wasn't on the couch, and I found the air mattress in my room with no one on it. That's when I came in here. I thought no one was home but me, but luckily that's not the case."
"Do you know where they went?" I asked. He shook his head.
"Nope, and I didn't see a note left for any of us."
"You guys stay here. I'm gonna go check this out real quick. I'll be back in a bit. Don't leave this room, got me?" They both nodded and scooted closer to each other. I smiled a little and shut the door, trying not to panic.
I ran to my parents' room, and sure enough, they weren't there. I sighed and grabbed a flashlight since the whole house is pitch black.
When I got downstairs, I remembered that Toby and I fell asleep on the couch. Oh…that must be why I had that dream. We fell asleep together, and I bet he carried me upstairs. It wouldn't be the first time.
I shook my head clear of those thoughts and walked carefully into the kitchen. I say carefully because I'm trying to be in like a spy-mode (as ridiculous and immature as it sounds) in case there's a burglar or something in the house. I don't want them to hear me coming in case I have to do something to distract them in order to protect my siblings. I'd do anything for them.
I haven't seen anyone in the house so far, but that doesn't mean anything. In the distance, I could hear a light rattling sound that sounded like it came from the living room. I gasped and grabbed the thing closest to me; a frying pan. Ha, like in Tangled.* Never mind, no time for that.
"Why won't this stupid thing work" I heard someone grumble from outside the door. I slowly started walking that way and stood right beside the front door, trying to keep my breathing light, even though my heart was beating almost out of my chest.
Just my luck, the person on the other side managed to get the door open. He turned around and saw me standing there, but it was dark and I couldn't see who it was. All I know is that it was a guy and he was tall.
"Oh hey E-", the guy started, but I didn't give him the chance to finish as I took the frying pan and struck him in the head with it. The guy went down with a groan and I ran to turn on the lights. I gasped when I realized who I hit…
Toby's POV (an hour earlier)
"Toby, will you please take the kids to my parents' house? They keep saying that they want to go there, and they can bring them up to the hospital tomorrow-OH THIS HURTS!"
I tried not to laugh. Maddie is in labor, and I know the situation is serious but she's funny when she's pregnant. Is that mean?
"Of course I will Mads" I said as I leaned down and picked a sleeping Lizzie up off the couch. Zach was standing behind me, falling asleep standing up with his backpack and Lizzie's princess bag over his shoulders. "You guys go on to the hospital. It looks like it's about to s-t-o-r-m."
Ally nodded quickly and Austin grabbed Maddie's arm for support as he helped her to the car.
"Tell Ella she and the kids can come up to the hospital in the morning after you drop the kids off please" Ally said as she grabbed Maddie's labor bag thingy. I nodded, but she wasn't done talking. Of course. "And Toby?"
"Yes?"
"Please be careful in the car this late at night. I want you to call me when you get back to our place, got it?"
I smiled. Ally's always been protective and mother-like to me. "Of course Ally."
With everyone finally some-what satisfied, Austin pulled the car out of the driveway and sped down the road to the hospital. With as fast as he was driving, I wouldn't be surprised if he got pulled over by the cops like Ella said happened when Ally was having the twins.
"Alright guys, let's get you to your grandma and Grandpa's house" I said quietly so I wouldn't wake Lizzie. Zach nodded, half awake and started walking behind me as I carried Lizzie to my car. And just for these kids' benefits, I keep a car-seat and a booster seat in my trunk at all times. I laid Lizzie in the front passenger seat and Zach was leaning against the hood as I went in the trunk to get them.
"Alright Zachary, hop in" I said when I put his seat in on the right side first. He mumbled something incoherent and trudged around the car to his booster seat. I smiled and shut the door for him as he started buckling up. I went around and grabbed the car-seat, strapping it in before I picked Lizzie back up. She never even complained about being moved constantly and just complied to whatever we were doing.
"There you go Princess" I whispered, kissing her forehead as I got her buckled in all the way. I walked back around to the driver's seat and sped off to Mike and Mimi's house.
"Toby? What's the matter? It's almost two in the morning, get in here!" Mimi exclaimed when she saw me standing at the door, holding Lizzie. I reached down and grabbed Zach's hand, pulling him in with me. He immediately plopped down on the couch and was out in seconds.
"I'm sorry Mimi, Maddie told me to bring them here. I thought she called and told y'all…"
"Told us what? What's wrong with our daughter!?" Mimi asked, now sounding panicked instead of half-asleep like she was when she answered the door
"Oh, I'm sure she's fine. Austin and Ally just took her to the hospital because she was in labor, and I agreed to pick up the kids since I was awake when she called. When we got there, Maddie told me to bring the kids here. Look, if it's a problem-"
"No sweetie, not a problem at all. You want to stay here too? We have an extra bed…" she said glancing at Zach momentarily who'd already taken the couch off limits for guests.
"No ma'am, I'm good. I would stay, but I think Ally wanted me to go back to her place. My parents think that's where I am now, and Ella and the twins are there too. They don't know anything that's been going on since they were asleep, and I don't want Ella waking up in a panic since she's home alone with the kids with no notice at all" I explained.
She smiled. "Oh, of course dear. That's perfectly fine. But you better call me when you get there. It's late out and there's a thunderstorm coming."
I nodded, having predicted the same thing earlier. "Will do. You want me to go put her in the girls' room?"
"That'll be fine sweetheart. We'll just let Zach sleep where he is. The poor things. They look so tired. I bet you are too" she said looking at me concerned. "Are you sure you should be driving this late? You could always stay here and I'll get Mike to go stay with Ella and the twins…"
"No ma'am, Ally wants me to call her when I get there anyway. I want to follow directions specifically, and it's less trouble this way. I'm fine, and I'm not even that tired" I said dismissively.
"If you're sure…" she said trailing off. "What were you doing up so late anyway?"
"Oh, Ella and I fell asleep on the couch after staying up and talking for a bit. I woke up when Evan made his little midnight snack trip, so I carried Ella up to bed, and that's when I heard the news" I explained. She nodded with a weird smile on her face.
"Yeah, uh huh. So you think y'all will be together by July?" she asked. My eyes widened at that. Okay, where did that come from?
"Um, I doubt it….considering we don't even like each other that way" I said slowly. She looked disappointed at that. "Why?"
"Huh? Oh, no reason. Just a crazy grandma hoping to see her babies happy" she said waving a hand dismissively.
"Well, she's plenty happy as she is Mimi, I don't think she'd want you setting her up with her best friend" I said smiling a little. She laughed and shook her head.
"You never know…"
Huh?
"Alright, go on. I'm expecting that call soon or I'm sending Mike out after you, got it?"
I laughed. "Yes ma'am."
After laying Lizzie in her bed, I left driving all the way to the Moons' house. I didn't have my phone with me (in all the craziness I didn't think to grab it) so I'll have to wait and call Ally and Mimi from the house phone when I get inside.
"Why won't this stupid thing work?" I said rolling my eyes as I couldn't get the key Ella gave me a long time ago to work. I sighed and started jiggling the handle to see if it would help. It didn't. I was getting frustrated, but thank goodness my key finally turned in the stupid door.
I walked in, expecting no one to be up, but I saw someone standing by the door. Okay, weird. When my eyes focused a little in the dark, I could see it was Ella and I sighed in relief. "Oh, hey E-"
I never got the chance to finish because one second, I'm staring at her dark figure, and the next I'm on the ground with a throbbing headache that only got worse when she turned on the lights.
Third person POV
"Toby!" Ella gasped when she saw who she hit over the head. Toby just groaned. By this point, Ella was about to start hyperventilating.
"Come on Toby, talk to me!" Ella yelled. It wasn't exactly helping Toby's headache, but he knew she meant well. By this point, Ella was down on the ground, practically straddling him with a concerned look in her teary eyes.
"I think they should put a warning at the beginning for anyone who watches Tangled. It's dangerous" Toby said in a strained voice as he tried to sit up, but thought better of it when a sharp pain went shooting through his skull.
Ella let out a breath she hadn't known she'd been holding. "Okay, just stay down. I don't want to further the chances of becoming a murderer of my best friend."
Just as she was about to get up, Toby placed his hands on her waist and held her still as she was stilled straddling him. Ella sucked in a breath again, not quite sure what was going on or why Toby was suddenly staring at her with the same expression he had in her dream. He slowly reached up with his left hand and stroked her right cheek. All the while Ella was stunned silent. What was he doing?
"T-Toby?"
"You're really beautiful, you know that?" he asked. Ella opened her mouth to respond, but she couldn't say anything. Her lip was quivering and she didn't know what to say to that.
Finally, Ella just laughed a little. "Oh Toby, how hard did I hit you?"
"Not hard enough to kill me Ells. I know what I'm saying here" Toby insisted. Ella blinked back the surprise from that comment and stood up.
"Um, okay. Stay there and I'm going to get you an ice pack" Ella said rushing to the kitchen.
"Toby!? Oh my goodness, what happened?" Emma exclaimed, rushing over to his side. Evan wasn't far behind but he was just looking a bit confused.
"Nothing much, had a run in with a frying pan is all" Toby said smiling a little.
"Evan, grab an arm" Emma demanded as she and Evan started pulling Toby up off the ground. They got him to sit up, before falling on top of him. Toby groaned in pain, but he didn't let the kids know how much it really hurt. He already had to deal with Ella's stupidity of blaming herself.
"Ella!" Emma yelled. "You have long, brown hair! You're not Repunzel! Why would you hit him?"
When Ella came back in holding the ice pack, she looked really mad. "First off, Emma that is between me, Toby and the frying pan. Second, what are you both doing down here? I told you to stay where you were and I'd come back up there! What would've happened if there was a burglar and I was trying to make a getaway for us, huh? Did you two even think of something like that!?"
The twins just sat there, stunned silent. Ella had never yelled at them like that. "We're sorry" Emma said looking down. Evan remained silent, just staring at his sister.
Ella sighed. "No, I'm sorry. But guys, when I tell you to do something, most the time I tell you for a reason. Our parents weren't home and I was sneaking around the house, hoping to not be caught by a burglar. I didn't want to have to worry about you guys too, because I knew exactly where you were. Now, I don't think there's a burglar but I have to help Toby, so will you two please just go back to bed? We'll be up there in a little bit to say goodnight and go to sleep."
Without a single word, both twins turned and walked upstairs. Ella turned back to Toby, looking really shaken. "What did I just do?"
Toby smiled. "You just became what you always wanted. The most responsible big sister you could be. Ella, you were totally right. I told you that you'd know exactly what to do when the time came."
"Wait, seriously? I was just upset because I was trying to keep them safe and they wouldn't listen…." Ella said trailing off. Toby laughed and reached a hand up for her to help him up, but ended up pulling her down with him.
"That is exactly what every good sibling or parent is supposed to do, Ells. When you love someone, you'll do anything to help them, even if it means hurting their feelings a little."
"Here" Ella laughed from on top of him as she handed him the ice pack. She placed it gently on the knot that already seemed to be forming on Toby's head. It was really big…
"Owe" Toby winced. Ella flinched, trying harder not to make it hurt.
"Sorry, it thought you were a burglar" she winced and kept tending to his wound. "Oh my….Toby, you're bleeding!"
"Is that why I'm seeing red dots?" Toby asked, suddenly sounding distant. Ella gasped and sat up, once again straddling the poor boy.
"Toby, Toby, I need you to stay awake okay? Stay with me" she said, patting his cheek repeatedly. She didn't want to slap him hard, but she had to keep him awake.
"When did your eyes get that pretty?" he asked in a daze.
"Okay Toby, you're making no sense. Please, stay with me. I think you have a concussion" Ella said checking his head. She was seconds away from bursting into tears again. "Emma! Evan! Get down here now!"
Seconds later and four little feet were heard pounding their way down the stairs. "What'd we do now?" Evan asked.
"Nothing! Emma, go crank Toby's car with his keys" Ella said grabbing the keys out of Toby's pocket. "Evan, help me help him up. We have to get him to the hospital."
"That's where Austin and Ally took Maddie" Toby said, with his head nodding back and forth a little. Ella's eyes widened and she steadied his head, looking directly in his eyes.
"What did you just say?"
"Maddie's having her kid. That's where we all went. I dropped the kids off. Oh yeah, call Aunt Mimi and tell her I'm home so she doesn't send a search party out after me" Toby said, his voice a little higher than normal.
"Okay, Evan help me here. I need to get him up but I can't do it by myself" Ella instructed. Evan nodded and together they eventually got Toby up. Emma ran back when she was done cranking the car and helped them walk Toby to the passenger seat in the car.
"What do we do now?" Emma asked frantically.
"Get in the back, buckle up and call Grandma. Let her know what's going on and ask her if she or Grandpa can meet us up there" Ella demanded as she buckled Toby in the seat. His head started to fall forward so she pushed it back. "Come on Toby, stay with me. I can't kill my best friend. I love you too much" she whispered to him and kissed his cheek.
"Do you know how to drive this thing?" Evan asked when she got behind the wheel.
"I have my license" Ella said shrugging. "I guess we're about to see."
"We saw" Evan said, with his eyes closed tight when they finally pared. Ella chuckled nervously.
"Okay, maybe I need a few more lessons. But right now we have to get him in the hospital! Emma, did you ever get Grandma on the phone?" Ella asked.
"No, and Aunt Trish and Uncle Dez won't answer either" Emma said sounding stressed.
"Call Bri" Ella said as she and Evan lifted Toby out of the car as best as a small sixteen year old girl and a ten year old boy could.
"Ella? Kids?" a voice asked, stopping Ella in her tracks. She turned around to see her Dad standing there.
"Daddy!" Ella gasped in relief. Somewhere during the ride, Toby had passed out, so he was now limp in their arms. "Please help us!"
"My Lord, what happened!?" Ally exclaimed, coming up on the scene.
"No time for that! Daddy, please! He's really heavy" Ella begged. Austin immediately grabbed the unconscious boy from his oldest daughter and only son. "Please help him!"
"It's okay honey, Daddy's gonna get him help" Ally said hugging her daughter as Austin took off for the hospital once more. They were just about to head home because Porter had made it in time for the birth and they weren't needed anymore until after the birth. Now, they couldn't do that because a child they were responsible for was unconscious and heading for the hospital. "What happened?"
"I-I think I k-killed my b-best friend!" Ella sobbed. The twins were standing there, looking up at their Mom and big sister in fear.
"Ella, baby you aren't making any sense. You have to tell me exactly what happened so we can tell Doctor Murphy when he sends the search party after us in the parking lot" Ally said. It was meant as a small joke to ease the tension, but it didn't work, and it could be true.
"We didn't know where you were" Evan said speaking up for her. "Emma and I were in Ella's room while the storm was going on, and no I wasn't scared, but Ella wanted to check out the house in case there was a burglar. From what I heard her say, she heard someone at the door and hit them with a frying pan before seeing who it was" Evan explained.
"I'm n-never watching T-Tangled again!" Ella sobbed.
"Oh sweetie" Ally said sighing. She motioned for the twins to join the hug, which they did without question.
"Lord, please let him be okay. I love him so much!" Ella sobbed. Ally looked up at the same time the twins did and smiled sadly at them.
Hey guys. Okay, somehow every time I write a chapter, I never write it the way it was originally planned. Oh well. I like it. Anyway, anybody see that coming? I have to say my favorite parts were probably when Ella had that dream, and when she was straddling Toby and he called her beautiful. Even I squealed at that, and I wrote it. Just….that's what I want so I wrote it. Anyways, please read, review, follow, and favorite!

God bless you all!
