Chapter 6: Speak of the Devil

A/N: Yeah, yeah, I know.

"Remus is looking at you again!" Effie sang, a devious smirk. I glanced up at her slowly.

"Be subtle this time, yeah?"

I nodded, turning back to my food.

"Is he still looking?" I asked a minute later, flipping some of my hair out of my eye. She nodded, picking at her potatoes. I pretended to glance around the room. Then Remus' eyes met mine. I felt my breath catch for a moment, staring in his amber eyes. But suddenly I noticed the person next to him was also staring at me. Sirius Black. He sent me a sexy grin, and I couldn't help but blush. What was he doing?

"And it looks like Remus isn't the only one looking at you." She said, a smile tugging on her lips. "You go, Elena, darlin."

I gave her a look. In all honesty, I was really nervous about the whole think.

You see, what Effie came up with was for me to get over Remus by . . . Well, going out with Sirius. I think the whole thing was a load of rubbish, but deep inside me, I thought it might work. And it couldn't hurt, could it?

"So," Effie said, poking at her food. "It's almost October. Do you have plans for a Halloween costume?" she asked, changing the subject smoothly.

I gave her a look.

"Are you serious?" I asked in disbelief. "It's almost October. I don't plan it until 11:59 the 30th, and you're asking me a month in advance?" I shook my head. "You're insane."

Effie rolled her eyes.

"Just because you don't plan ahead doesn't mean I can't . . ." She trailed off, her eyebrows shooting up. "Oh, hi, Sirius!" she said, causing my head to shoot up.

"Oh, um, hi." I blurted out. Smooth.

"Hey Elena." He said cheerfully, sitting down next to me. He picked one of my red curls off my shoulder, bouncing it around in his hand. "What's up?"

"Oh, I was just leaving!" Effie said, getting up and hurrying from the Great Hall without a second thought. Great. Very subtle, Effie.

Sirius laughed a bit and turned back to me.

"Want to go work on transfiguration?" he said, giving me a wink.

I smiled, nodding.

"Ok, but first," he said, taking my sandwich off of my plate. "We must eat."

"Hey!" I exclaimed, giggling, and making a go for my sandwich. "Give that back."

He smiled, chewing a bit. I wrinkled my nose at him.

"Ew, never mind."

The common room had been empty by the time we actually started getting to the books. I had been leaning on him, my head comfortably resting on his shoulder.

"I don't want to study." I whined softly.

He chuckled slightly.

"Oh, really? Then what do you want to do Elena?" he asked, moving me upright. I stood up, slightly wobbly. Damn I was tired.

"I should go to bed." I said with a sigh.

Sirius stood up as well, putting his arm around my waist, helping me walk over to the stairs.

"This is as far as I can take you, 'lena." He said, smiling at me. I grinned back, leaning up to give him a kiss on the cheek, but apparently I was more tired than I thought, because it landed on his lips instead. His grip around my waist tightened, pulling me closer. I felt my entire body flush. Merlin. Sirius Black is a good kisser. His lips pressed against mine urgently. Before, it was just soft whisper of a kiss. Now he was kissing me passionately, as if there has never been anything more important. I felt my knees go weak, and if he hadn't been holding me so close, I would have collapsed. I felt butterflies in my stomach, flying around furiously. My heart was racing, I was sure Sirius could feel it. Well, with how close we were, anyway . . . Sirius' hands splayed across my back, and that was when mine gained a mind of its own. One hand pressed itself against his chest. Merlin, he is attractive. The other hand settled itself into his hair. His hand started twisting itself into my curls and I let out a quiet noise. Merlin. My bottom lip fell between Sirius' teeth. Oh. I couldn't breath, but I didn't feel like I needed air. Sirius' tongue pushed at my lips, and my mouth opened very willingly. His hand was massaging the back of my head, and I was in bliss. My hands wrapped around his neck, angling his head for better access. Bloody hell.

Sirius' mouth moved from my lips, leaving a hot trail down to my neck. He nipped slightly, sucking on my pulse point. I let out a quiet moan, I couldn't help myself. There was just something about him that I couldn't control myself around.

And yet, in a tiny corner of my mind was Remus. And, you know, speak of the devil, and the devil shall come.

"Elena? Sirius?" Sirius pulled away, as we both turned toward the voice. Remus was standing there, staring. He started backing away. "I'll just go, then." he said awkwardly, before rushing out of the room. Oh, Merlin!

I could feel tears welling up in my eyes. What have I done?

"Elena?" Sirius asked worriedly. I pulled away, turning and running up to the dorms.

"Elena!"

Oh. My. Merlin.

I ran into the dorm, closing the door behind me as quietly as I was capable of at the time, and crash landed onto my bed.

"Elena?" Effie said, quietly, pulling open my curtain. "Merlin, Elena, what happened?"

And so, I just blurted it all out.

"Come on, Elena, you have to get up. You can't pull this one." Effie said, her hands on her hips.

"I kissed Sirius Black." I said, staring up at the ceiling.

"Yes, and I'm pretty sure you liked it. A lot. And it's not that bad of a thing. So, get up." Effie said, pulling off my blanket and tossing it on the floor.

"Hey!" I yelled, sitting up. "I was using that!"

Effie rolled her eyes.

"Do I look like I care?" she asked. "Get the hell up. We can talk about it over breakfast. Merlin knows I need sustenance to deal with your train wreck of a life." She said teasingly. I glared at her. It wasn't my fault my life suddenly got interesting.

I decided not to deal with the usual frills of makeup I had become so accustomed to, and just put clothes on. Sometimes, I needed a break from effort.

"So, let's go!" Effie said, pulling me along. "You'll be fine, Elena. Besides, this is a good thing, isn't it?" she asked, peeking at me out of the corner of her eye.

I shrugged, looking at the ground.

"I honestly don't know. I mean, I like Sirius and all, but the whole time . . . There was just a corner in my mind where I wasn't thinking about him, you know?" I asked, looking at her. Effie nodded and sighed, pulling me into a side hug. She ruffled my hair.

"Yeah. I'm sorry, Elena." She said, not letting me go.

"It's ok." I replied, laughing a bit.

A/N: I tried, and therefore no one should criticize me! Okay, fine, criticize me. I'm sorry.

I figured, I've been gone for a year, so why not give you some action?

Also, I know how short it is, but I figured it's better than nothing? I'm sorry . . .
