Chapter 6: Too Fond of You
27 March 2014
Snowflakes fell from the heavens, coating the ground in a layer of beautiful white flakes that reflected light, making them look like they were shinning under the soft light of the morning sun.
Two figures made their way through the crowd of people who were buzzing about the streets of doing their last bits of Christmas shopping, as they headed in the direction of a specific bar.
Ayame clung tightly onto Mikoto's jacket sleeve, afraid of losing him in the sea of people. Passers-by stopped and stared as the mismatched couple walked pass them, while others scurried out of their way, trying to get as far away from them after taking one look at Miktoto. He was...intimidating even without trying to be.
Ayame cringed as the walked further down the street lined with Christmas decorations of red and green with an occasional splash of white. She hated Christmas. No, scratch that, she hated holidays altogether. All the advertisements and posters that lined the city depicting happy families enjoying their time spent together, and the many other things that promoted holidays' as family time combined with the fact that any holiday made memories best left forgotten resurface just made her downright sick to her stomach. And, if she had a choice, she would have been holed up in her lovely apartment wrapped in her soft quilt with a cup of hot tea in her hands with Akira snuggled beside her, watching a horror movie of her choice. But no, instead of doing just that, the Red King himself had to be a big baby about everything and insist that she absolutely had to accompany him back to HOMRA, and would not stop whining like a 5 year-old child deprived of his sweets when she'd said no. So, here she was out trudging in the God damned cold on Christmas evening.
Well, in Mikoto's defence, he was doing a pretty good job keeping her relatively warm with his aura surrounding them. But it was not like that would stop her from scowling at him or sending him a death glare every few seconds. It was her way of saying, thanks for ruining my perfectly good plans.
Mikoto smirked as he felt Ayame's killer gaze flick towards him for the umpteenth time throughout their walk. He couldn't help it. He found it strangely amusing. If it had been anyone else doing the glaring, they would have been burned on the spot. To say the least, he was starting to grow fond of her. A little bit too fond. Her stubborn but determined personality combined with her occasional awkward shyness, made her all the more amusing to watch her. But, that wasn't the only thing that intrigued him. There was just something about her. It was like she was hiding something. Something she didn't want the world to find out. Something dark, something dangerous. It showed in her amethyst depths. And in the month he'd spent with her, the only things he'd learnt about her was her name, she lived in her own, and had a husky for a pet. So, to sum it all up, she was just one big walking mystery to him, and it made him all the more drawn to her.
As they made their way further down the concrete pavement, Ayame came to an abrupt stop, planting her legs firmly onto the pavement, bringing Mikoto to a stand still as well, as the first glimpse of HOMRA came into view.
Turning his body to face Ayame, Mikoto raised one questioning eyebrow at her, obviously annoyed with the fact that she had stopped his progress towards his long awaited reunion with his clan.
"Just so you now, if your ill mannered, short tempered, hooligan of a clan so much as let out a peep of how you oh so miraculously survived thanks to the one and only jaw-dropping, amazing me, I will make your life a living hell, just to give you a heads up. So don't forget to tell them to keep their big mouths shut, preferably sewed shut and locked with the key thrown away," said Ayame with an overly honey-coated voice, with a hint of underlying menace.
"Yes ma'am," came Miktot's reply, accompanied by a two finger salute as his face broke out in a wide grin, eyes shinning with an uncharacteristic mischievous light before starting back down the road with Ayame right behind him.
He really was getting too fond of her. But honestly, how could he not when she was so intriguing?

Kusanagi Izumo stood behind his precious bar, appreciating the scent of ale and cigarettes that rose from it, and the pleasing luster of polished rosewood as he polished his delicate cocktail glasses.
Somehow, repeating such a mundane everyday task with the constant elements that was uniquely HOMRA, form the the slight smell of burning, too the scratches on the hardwood floor made by the countless scuffles of the members, to the worn leather couch that sat in the corner, all helped to soothe Kusanagi's rattled nerves. It made him forget even if it just for a one to two hours. It made him, forget that he'd lost his closest friends. It made him forget that his king was no longer here with him. And for a moment, just a moment no matter how short it was, it made him feel calm and at ease again...
Jolted from his thoughts by the distant ringing if the bar's doorbell, Kusanagi's brown orbs widened. Glass slipping from between his fingers, free falling towards the ground, shattering into uneven pieces if broken glass. Each piece still shinning brightly from it's recent polishing, reflecting the shocked face of the blond bartender as he stood in suspended animation, staring at the familiar red head with intense amber eyes that blazed with burning red flames.
