Make-up Teacher Madness (Episode 10)
It was early in the morning, before class had even started. I was just making my way to home room after being scolded -for 'continual use of a male student blue blazer- by Miss Chouno. I really didn't like her. She was one of those really strict teachers who all the students hate.
Just because she's 'beautiful' doesn't mean she can do whatever she wants. She's only beautiful on the outside though. If you looked inside her I'm sure you'd find some horrible monster or hideous cranky old hag. That's my theory anyway. My blazer wasn't even a male student's blazer.
It was tailored to fit a female's body the only difference was the colour. I really needed to forge that note soon… As I was striding toward the classroom I noticed Tea, Miho and another girl -I think her name is Mayumi- talking in hushed tones.
"EH JOEY?!" I heard Tea cry -so much for hushed tones- as I inched closer.
"What about Joey?" I questioned eyeing the group turning my gaze toward Miho.
She would surely answer me. "Mayumi likes Joey~." Miho sings cheerfully clasping her hands together.
Wasn't quite the answer I was expecting. "M-MIHO!" Mayumi stammers at her blatant answer.
So it was a secret eh? Well then, telling Miho probably wasn't the best move. She couldn't keep a secret if you blinded folded her and gagged her with a sock. That girl was a natural gossip. Yet another girly activity I did not par-take in.
"No worries, I won't tell anyone." I promised waving my hand at Mayumi dismissingly.
Who would I tell anyway?
"Though if you don't mind me asking…" I trailed off.
Gazing into home room, where Tristan and Joey were currently fighting about cleaning duties, while Yugi tried to neutralise the situation.
"…Why, um do you like him I mean?" I wondered tilting my head quizzically.
Sure Joey was okay as a friend but as a boyfriend? I don't think so. He's totally clueless about that kind of thing but then what's new about that. I smirked to myself if he could read my thoughts he'd go berserk… fun.
"It's hard to say exactly what." Mayumi blushed shuffling nervously.
"You shouldn't ask questions like that Keiko! After all, love doesn't need a reason." Miho stated dreamily hearts in her eyes.
I tried to ignore the slightly deranged look the girl had on her face, and focused on Mayumi. "I was wandering… if you knew something Joey liked?" Mayumi explained timidly.
Her eyes lowering until she was looking at the floor. "What he likes…" Tea repeated thoughtfully.
"What are you going to do?" Miho asked.
"A-a present! I thought I'd give Joey something he likes as a present…" Mayumi explained smiling at the thought which made me want to gag.
"What does he like?" Tea scratched the side of her face in thought.
She's known them longer than I have and even I could take a wild guess at something Joey would like.
"He and Tristan often talk about lewd videos." Miho told.
"That is true." I agreed crossing my arms meditatively.
Though not exactly what I had been thinking.
"I can't give that as a present!" Mayumi squeaked now blushing from embarrassment.
"I think Joey would enjoy a game of some kind." I suggested getting blank looks from all three girls.
It's like they'd never heard of the concept their entire life.
"But, just to be sure we should get a second opinion from someone who knows Joey." I strolled over to the open classroom door and peered in finding my target.
"Yugi!" I yelled into the classroom.
This in turned got the three boys' attention.
"Could you please come here for a moment!" I called trying to sound urgent enough to get him over here without raising the suspicions of the others.
"What is it Keiko?" Yugi inquired.
"Just come out here already!" I instructed rapidly getting a confused look from Yugi.
"What is it? Should we come too?" Joey took a step forward pointing at himself.
Guess that plan failed, oh well plan B.
"NO! You two loud mouths can keep fighting. Just Yugi!" I shouted slamming the door closed after Yugi walked out.
"What is it?" Yugi repeated looking more confused than ever.
"We need to know something Joey likes." I informed him.
"Huh something Joey likes?" Yugi's quizzical expression appearing again.
"Yeah, you'd know right." Tea recognised.
At least someone knew what I was doing. Yugi thought momentarily then smiled widely somewhat self-conscious.
"He'd probably like lewd videos."
I almost fell over.
"Not something like that!" Tea yelled frustrated and as uncomfortable as the rest of us.
"Something a girl can give as a gift." I emphasised.
"And… Keiko is giving it?" Sadness flashed across Yugi's face darkening his eyes.
It was such a contrast to his usually bright and happy expression. Something constricted horribly tight in my chest. That look was something akin to the face a defenceless animal would give you, because you've done something horribly cruel to them.
It was like a Boa python was slowly coiling itself around my heart, squeezing it like a mouse. I pushed this feeling away. I was over reacting. Why would Yugi be upset if I gave Joey a present anyway? It was just… ridiculous! That's what it was. Ridic-ulous!
No matter how I chanted this in my mind, my body –specifically my mouth- wanted to clear this idea up A.S.A.P.
"HECK NO! It's MAYUMI who likes him. NOT ME!" I clarified rather loudly than I normally would pointing zealously at Mayumi.
"Hey Keiko." Mayumi whimpered.
Turns out I'm no better at keeping a secret than Miho is.
"No sweat Mayumi, Yugi won't tell anyone. Will you Yugi?"
When I looked back at Yugi he smiled and nodded.
"If it's a secret, then I'll keep it a secret." he assured.
My heart was now beating in my chest rhythmically like there had been nothing wrong.
"So what do you think he'd like?" Tea continued getting us back on track.
"I thought any kind of game would work." I shrugged.
Yugi nodded in agreement "Joey does like games. Maybe something from the shop?" he suggested thoughtfully.
"Yugi's Gramps has heaps of games to choose from, I'm sure we could find something." I added.
"Let's go look after school!" Miho decided excitedly.
We all agreed to meet up after school and show Mayumi the way. As soon as the bell rang we were off and it didn't take long –as the shop isn't very far away- until we were there.
"I see, a present full of feelings for the opposite sex."
Gramps can be real weird sometimes...
"It's sure nice to be young." he commented wistfully.
"Are you sure about this?" Mayumi whispered behind her hand.
"It'll be okay. You can trust this old man." Tea assured.
"I've got something good for this purpose." Gramps realised pounding a fist into his open palm.
"Really Grandpa?" Yugi exclaimed joyfully.
"Great." I just hoped it wasn't something perverted.
"Yugi, I've told you this is how I got your grandmother." Gramps reminded.
He rummaged through a box on one of the top shelves for a while.
"If I recall, it's in this box…"
All the dust that had settled in the box –most likely over years- was stirred making Gramps cough loudly.
"Is this really a good idea?" Mayumi questioned again uncertainly.
"It'll be fine. Don't worry about it." I waved her concern off.
"Oh, here it is." Gramps placed a small brown box on the counter.
"This is it." He blew the dust off it making us all have a coughing fit.
Thanks for that.
"Here look." he told taking off the lid revealing a plain white puzzle.
"It's a puzzle… with no picture." I stated looking at it strangely.
Who would want a puzzle with no picture?
"Yup! Send your feelings to the other person in pieces. The receiver will put the pieces together one by one and a message will appear." Gramps explained.
"Wow that's actually quite ingenious." I commented genuinely surprised.
"And romantic." Gramps added.
"That's great, really lovely, really romantic!" Mayumi agreed clasping her hands together.
"Yes, yes-" "I'm buying this!" Mayumi decided.
"Here. Thanks for your business." Gramps put the lid back on the box.
"But what kind of message should I write…." Mayumi wandered.
Gramps chuckled jollily "Tomorrow the weekend starts so take your time and think about it." he advised.
"I will." Mayumi smiled handing over the money and taking the box.
The weekend flew by as fast as any other and soon it was Monday again.
"Did you write it?! Did you write it?!" Miho repeated looking extra hyper this morning.
Personally I'm more of a night owl or a cat. I'd sleep in if school didn't start so darn early. My morning hate aside. Mayumi nodded as she opened her bag and took out a small purple gift wrapped box.
"Yeah…" Mayumi trailed holding the box close to her chest.
"Cute!" Miho praised looking at the ribbon wrapping.
"I worked hard on it all weekend." Mayumi told.
"So where should we put it." Tea wondered.
"Somewhere he'd defiantly find it. If you hide it somewhere he'll probably miss it. I proposed. "How about in his desk!" Miho clapped.
"But if Joey finds it wouldn't he just start working on it in front of everyone?" Tea argued.
"Probably." I yawned.
I wouldn't put it past Joey to do it in the middle of class.
"If he does start working on it I'll bring him to the roof." Yugi mumbled from next to us his cheeks rosy.
I didn't even know he was there. I wonder sometimes… if he's secretly a ninja or something.
"Then operation romance is a go!" I grinned mischievously.
This should be fun although; we probably should have a backup plan… Mayumi placed the parcel under Joey's desk. It wasn't long after, that students started filling in the seats in preparation for class. The bell for first period rung out loudly through the halls, all the students were already seated.
Well, all accept one and that was Joey. "Joey isn't here yet." Tea whisper shouted.
Thank you captain obvious.
"Maybe he's absent today?" Miho suggested looking over her shoulder at Mayumi.
Personally I don't think so. This wouldn't be the first time Joey has come in late nor will it be the last. At that moment footsteps could be heard pounding down the hall and Joey slammed the classroom door open.
"Phew I made it on time." Joey breathed in relief.
"Joey you're late!" Miho reminded.
"And that's nothing to be proud of." I scolded.
"Hurry and take your seat! The teacher will be here soon." Tristan hurried.
" Sorry, I stayed up watching videos last night. I went to bed late." Joey explained sitting down at his desk.
"Oh lewd videos you mean." I chuckled a hand over my mouth.
"Don't insult me! It was Hong Kong action!" Joey shouted at me angrily.
All chatting ceased when the door glided open again revealing Miss Chouno.
"Oh."
My eyebrow twitched in annoyance. No not her anyone but her. I slid down in my seat, almost wishing my chair was quicksand that would swallow me up, anything to make me as inconspicuous as possible. I haven't finished forging a note yet –that's what you get for procrastinating-. If she notices me I'm dead meat.
I tried my best to not be noticeable when we greeted the teacher. At least I sit in the back so there are a lot of people between me and her.
"Okay, open your text book." she instructed a smile as fake as her beauty plastered on her face.
Hearing the rustling of paper I saw Joey pull the present out from under his desk.
Uh ohhhh sirens flashed in my mind Abort mission! Abort mission! No Joey don't open that now!
Joey shook the box around nosily whilst inspecting it, only drawing the attention of the teacher.
Idiot!
I would have face palmed if it wouldn't draw attention to me.
"Stupid Joey hurry and hide that!" Tea whisper shouted as Miss Chouno made her way over to his desk.
"Joseph. What are you doing during class?" she questioned hands on her hips.
Then she noticed the wrapped box in his hand. "Oh what a cute bento lunch~" she sneered grabbing the box from his hands as the other students laughed.
"That's not mine." Joey told shrugging his shoulders innocently.
"Not yours, but you had it right?" Miss Chouno asked waving it in front of him.
"It was just… in my desk. Someone must have put it in there by accident." Joey answered turning his head away.
"Accident? I see." Miss Chouno took the parcel to the front of the class and placed it on the desk.
"But… teachers always tell you. Don't bring things to school that aren't related to class." she reprimanded then held up the box.
"What could this be, Joey?"
"I already told you I don't know." Joey repeated his temper seemed to be wearing thin.
"Really!" Miss Chouno smiled yet another thing that reminded me of a snake.
Grasping the box tightly with both hands she crushed it. Ripping the wrapping paper right off and causing a few of the puzzle pieces to fall out.
"Oh! A jigsaw puzzle!"
"That's no good. You shouldn't bring a plaything to school. You'd probably take it out and completely lose yourself in it." she scolded beginning to piece the puzzle together.
Well its better than listening to you talk I thought bitterly.
"Truly adverse to studying." As more of the pieces came together words started to form.
"Ah, how interesting! When you put the pieces together words come out." Miss Chouno gasped.
I gritted my teeth at this rate the whole class is going to find out Mayumi's feelings -however misguided they are- for Joey.
This was cruel. She enjoyed watching people squirm before she crushed them like a bug under her heel. Not only that, this supposed to be a confession just for Joey. A confession is supposed to be a special moment between two people who like each other, not a whole freaking class.
"Ever since I met you… I've always been preoccupied…" Miss Chouno covered her mouth to muffle her cruel cackle.
"Oh no, is this… a confession!?"
The whole class broke out into laughter except for our small group that knew… it was nothing to laugh at. Mayumi will be crushed, scratch that, Mayumi looked crushed already. She covered her face and tried to block it out, to hide, anything to get away. She was the bug under Miss Chouno's uselessly long heels.
"That's no good. This will be a terrible distraction. In other words against school rules, perhaps leading to expulsion." Miss Chouno smiled sinisterly.
"Who owns this?" She asked waving the box around once more.
When no one answered she tilted her head pouting disappointedly, picking up another piece.
"Well to continue." I sat in my chair clutching the sides of my desk.
This wasn't right. No, don't get involved Keiko. Don't do it! Don't do it!
Unfortunately this was another of those moments where my body disobeys my I even knew it I was standing up straight, my chair screeching back loudly from the sudden shift.
Looks like… I'm getting involved.
"Miss Chouno, you know it's unkind to read letters that don't belong to you right?" I enlightened meeting her sharp venomous gaze.
Not to mention against the law.
The entire class was now looking at me. A feeling which is very unsettling to me. I wish I was a chameleon so I could disappear, blend in with the background, go unnoticed. Being the centre of attention was really not my cup of tea as it were. Miss Chouno glared daggers at me then smiled.
"But as a teacher I must know who brought this to school. And by putting the pieces together, I will know who's it is." she reminded.
"Well I disagree that puzzle is mine and I don't appreciate you reading it!" I exclaimed ignoring the stares and gasps of astonishments.
I was the last person anyone would expect to send a love letter to anyone, especially Joey. Miss Chouno looked at me trying to hide her overwhelming pleasure at how this situation had turned out. It was easy for me to see in her eyes that she was enjoying every second of it.
"I see… So it is yours Keiko." she paused.
"Yes. I'm sorry you couldn't tell but then again love isn't meant for the rude and heartless." I smirked my gaze like laser beam wishing to melt a hole in her being.
Miss Chouno's eyes narrowed considerably the dislike in them aimed at me covered. It was easily a look meaning that I would regret what I'd just said and I knew this well.
"When class is over, go to the advisor room!" she ordered before putting the puzzle away safety in a locked draw.
I nodded agreeably plopping back into my seat with a huff.
Look on the bright side if I get expelled… I won't have to listen to her boring lectures ever again.
Seriously that was the only good thing I could think of. Sure I hated getting up in the morning, having to do work, the teachers the classes but I still came to school. There was an easy explanation for that. Firstly if my parents found out I wasn't going –which they surely would- nothing would stop their wrath.
Secondly… I leaned on my head on my palm and glanced at the window, seeing a ghostly reflection on the clean glass of the people around me. Right in the top corner before the glass ended I could see an image of Yugi.
He was looking this way his eyes brows pushed together, his eyes wide and wavering like he was still processing just what had happened. I wondered that too. Why did I have to open my big mouth? I averted my gaze from the window instead choosing to have a staring contest with my desk. I let out a deep sigh.
Secondly there are people I'd miss if I were gone… I sat through class quite as a mime and I didn't get called on at all. When the bell rang Miss Chouno motioned at me to follow so I stood up and walked out of the room, giving an apologetic glance in my friends direct, but I didn't meet there gazes.
I did catch a glimpse of Joey's face though and it made me feel a little better. If I weren't about to be expelled I would have laughed at the complete and utter confusion stamped all over it. Once my tour guide and I arrived at the advisor room we both sat down simultaneously.
"This is no good. You shouldn't bring something like this to school." Miss Chouno admonished dropping the puzzle box roughly.
I gritted my teeth annoyed. "The way you lecture students, it's a wander everyone doesn't bring something to play while you're talking." I muttered.
"What was that?!" Miss Chouno snapped in a low voice.
I blew a strand of hair out of my face. "I didn't bring it to distract anyone, nor did I bring it for someone else to read."
I raised my voice looking straight into her eyes defiantly.
"Rules and disruptions are connected." she reminded crossing her legs as she sat at the far end of the rectangular table.
"Yeah but what exactly is a "distraction"? And don't you think banning everything that could be classified as a "distraction" makes you more like a dictator than a teacher?"
Miss Chouno frowned "My-my, how rude." she scolded turning away.
"You're only inviting students to break the completely unreasonable rules." I told crossing my arms.
"You may say that but do the other students feel the same way." she asked smiling dangerously.
"Probably, I know I think it's completely insane" I shrugged.
I also think you're insane but hey, that's just my opinion.
"Probably you say, so you don't know then." She blinked her lip twitching like she wanted to give me a toothy evil grin.
"Why don't you prove it then, by gathering student's signatures?" She challenged.
"Signatures?" I repeated thoughtfully.
It can't be that hard, besides if I can beat her I'll be happy.
"If you want the rules revised, then gather the student's signatures and bring it up at the staff meeting." She explained calmly.
My eyebrows furrowed, there's always a catch.
"And if I don't?"
"Well if you don't get the signatures to revise the rules, then that means you have broken the rules and therefore must be expelled." She smiled happily.
How I loathe her.
"Fine. You're on, I'll get the signatures." I agreed standing from my seat and grabbing the puzzle box.
I was surprised she was even giving me a chance to get away unpunished. That's probably not what this is though. For like a snake she has injected me with poison. Now she'll watch me run with the poison slowly pumping through my veins. Leisurely watching my torturous death before going in for the kill.
Now I was the one squirming. Walking out of the room, Miss Chouno's burning gaze followed me until the door was closed behind me. I had only been out of the room for two seconds when my friends swooped on me.
"How'd it go?" Miho asked tentatively.
Before I had a chance to answer Mayumi bowed to me.
"I'm sorry Keiko this is all my fault!"
"What did she say?" Yugi asked worriedly.
"Are you expelled?" Tea added.
"No, I'm not expelled." I famed a laugh glaring at Tea in the process.
Not yet.
"Everything went fine." I assured "We just had a little chat."
Yugi let out a sigh of relief but his eyes were still trained on me. I didn't want to tell him if I didn't get the signatures, I would be expelled.
"Oh yeah, here you go Mayumi." I remembered handing the puzzle box over.
"She gave it back." Mayumi stated in shock.
"Gave, took its all the same thing. We came to an agreement so I'm sure she won't mind." I snickered.
"An agreement?" Yugi questioned tilting his head.
Of course he wouldn't let it go that easy.
"That's right! And I'm gonna need everyone's help if I'm going to beat her!" I held a fist in front of me my eyes blazing.
I am determined to win against the mad make-up teacher and nothing will stand in my way. I got busy straight away during break, drawing up posters and printing out sheets for people to put their signatures on.
When classes were finished I went around distributing the things I'd drawn. I stuck a copy of the hand drawn poster on the school bulletin board with some tacks. My friends watching me closely.
"You're really doing this?" Yugi asked.
"Yup!" I clicked my tongue smoothing out the poster.
"If the rules were less strict everyone would be happier."
"But…" Joey trailed off uncertainly.
"Well what do you think about the rules Joey? Come on spill it already!" I commanded looking from the corner of my eyes.
I twirled around suddenly my hands on my hips an eerie smile on my face.
Choose your next words wisely.
"Well I ah… think it'd be better off without them." he told looking intimidated by my expression.
"Then sign this!" I ordered shoving a clipboard and pen with some paper on it in his face.
He took it from me jotting down his signature and handing it back quick smart.
"Uuuuuuumm maybe…. I can help." Yugi proposed quietly twiddling his fingers.
I looked at him and blinked. "Are you sure? Miss Chouno reeeeeeeeeeeeeally hat-ah, has it out for me." I informed him.
Like people didn't already know that. I was hesitant. I didn't want to get him involved or pour gasoline and throw some logs on his worry fire. Yugi nodded firmly and I smiled shortly see clear determination in his eyes. He could be quite stubborn when the situation called for it.
"Well if you're sure… don't blame me if you get into trouble with her." I shrugged nonchalantly.
Grabbing another of the posters I'd made handing the rolled paper to him.
"Hang this poster up on the west tower. Somewhere where everyone can see it." I directed.
Yugi smiled "Okay!" then began running off.
He's eager I'll give him that.
"Hey Yugi!" I called after him.
He turned to look at me stopping in his tracks. I smiled genuinely "Thanks for helping me." I told him quietly.
Yugi just smiled shyly before running off to do as I had told. He's a very good person always happy, always willing to help.
If I get expelled it'll be the first time I am truly sad to leave a place behind. Is it really the place I'll miss?
When I got to school the next morning there was something I noticed straight away. Every poster I had plastered over the school had been scribbled on. Things like 'Stupid.', 'I'm against the rules revolution.' or most commonly 'Crazy B*tch' were scrawled over every one in messy chicken scratch writing.'
I sweat dropped at that last one. "How mean." Miho uttered her innocence shaken.
"Who would do such a thing!" Yugi wondered anger flashing in his amethyst orbs.
"Well if I had to guess, it was probably that guy…" I scrutinised the writing on each poster.
Everyone had the same hand writing so it must have been the same people doing the writing. And noting that last… comment I had a hair idea who it was.
"What guy?" Yugi asked curiously.
I crossed my arms over my chest and glared at the poster like it was the behind these insults. I remembered what happened yesterday in the late afternoon clearly.
"Well yesterday there was this guy; I don't know his name…" I began.
"…he told me my proposal was stupid but he'd sign, if I gave him a kiss. So when he leaned in I punched him in the face. His nose started to bleed and then he ran off." I explained like it was no big deal.
I was no boxer but you know what they say. Women are like teabags, you never know how strong one is until it's in hot water. The group sweat dropped at my blatant answer. Besides when I was younger I had taken self defense lessons. The rules were drilled into me by now.
My father had, and still has, a fair number of enemies in the business world. And I'm guessing he thought some of them weren't below trying to kidnap a little girl –not so little anymore- for blackmail purposes. I've never really had to use what I'd been taught but it sure comes in handy to know the basics.
This was just a pre-emptive strike.
"I suppose he went off and told all his buddies a girl beat him up." I shrugged.
Joey shook his head "What a petty thing to do."
"Its fine I'll just put new ones up."
Lucky I photocopied extras I thought.
"Isn't that like, harassment or something" Joey stated lamely.
"Lucky I have a good right hook." I chuckled taking the poster down.
Though my hand was still quite sore, they didn't need to know that. Yugi watched quietly looking anxious about the whole thing. Once I had took down all the graffitied posters and put up the new ones it was time for class.
First thing after home room I was facing my age old enemy… Math. Let's face it there aren't many people out there who like math. I was no different. I had little tolerance for it. It's hard for me to do something that is no fun at all. The fact that I wasn't very good at required subjects seemed to surprise my peers.
Apparently I was considered smart. I'm not sure how they gauge being awesome at art, goodish at sports and okay to average at everything in-between to be "smart". But hey I'm not one to complain about a compliment or even care what everyone else thinks in the first place.
Getting back to the subject at hand I found math truly boring to death.
"Keiko come to the front of the class and solve this equation!" the teacher snapped.
My head whipped up at the mention of my name. This was unusual. Teachers never called on the "smart" kids. It was one of the few perks about people thinking that. I let out a grunt of annoyance as I got out of my seat and trudged to the whiteboard. I took the red whiteboard marker in hand.
I was hoping that my favourite colour would give me some kind of luck. I deadpanned at the board in front of me. I looked at it like some kind of language I had never even heard of let alone understood. I wracked my brain for answers but it sputtered like a car engine unwilling to start.
This is probably a good example of why you should pay attention in class kids.
Come on Keiko you can do this I told to myself.
I had never seen a question like this before. We had obviously not covered this type of math in class yet. Not at this school anyway.
"You do realise you haven't taught us how to solve this equation yet, right?" I asked turning my head toward the teacher.
"You'd know how to do it if you weren't wasting your time at school doing useless things." the teacher scolded.
I glared at the teacher.
Who spat in his coffee?
This teacher was usually pretty chill, yet another strange thing today. I examined the question again. It didn't look completely unfamiliar. We were still going over things that I had already learnt so the formula must be somewhere in that head of mine.
And it was at least I hoped it was. I had a vague idea so I went with it and hopped for the best.
"I didn't say I didn't know how to do it."
I then proceeded in my attempt to answer the question and after a while I had an answer that seemed relevant. I stepped back from the board with a proud smile on my face like I'd just finished doing a complicated magic trick. I gave my best confident look but I was really hoping I didn't completely fail.
The teacher's lip was stiff for a moment as he inspected my work.
"You forgot that it's a negative value." he stated neutrally.
Well that's better than completely wrong I suppose.
"My bad." I grinned correcting the answer.
The teacher nodded approvingly motioning for me to return to my seat. At this signal I turned tail and walked swiftly back to my seat. Once I was safe in my chair again I let out a sigh.
Thank goodness that's over.
In the afternoon once classes had finished I got out my signature sheet continuing my endeavour of collecting signatures.
Yugi and I stood outside the classroom trying to get any retreating students that walked past to put they're signatures on the form. Most of them steered clear. News of what happened to the last guy who "tried to sign" probably got around as gossip does.
"How's it going?" Miss Chouno asked appearing beside me.
An involuntary chill went down my spine at that moment. She snatched the board from my hands and grinned when she saw it.
"Oh you haven't gotten very many." she famed sadness.
I grabbed the board back crossing my arms angrily. "I've only been at it for a day." I huffed.
"Just remember our… arrangement, and try your best!" She smiled before walking off, noisy high heels clanking.
Yugi tilted his head and gazed at me. "What arrangement would that be?" he asked curiously.
I froze momentarily and laughed nervously. I'm not sure telling him would be the best idea.
"Nothing to worry your pretty little head over." I reassured ruffling Yugi's hair.
"Just a bet over who will win, in the end."
After a while it became apparent that the students are too reluctant to sign so we headed off home.
Our little group was walking home together while I thought of ways I could get people to sign.
"Man this sucks! People are so afraid they won't even put their signature down. It doesn't even have to be their real signature I don't care!" I exclaimed loudly.
"Haven't you heard the rumour?" Miho asked as we walked.
"The rumour I punched a guy isn't a rumour." I reminded her.
"Not that rumour." Tea rolled her eyes.
"Students that signed for the rules revision are being targeted by all the teachers." Miho explained.
"That's not true. The only student the teachers are targeting is me." I grumbled.
It was extremely bothersome and I knew exactly who would put them up to that. None of the male teachers could resist Miss Chouno's charm.
"Who would say something like that?" Tea wondered.
"Whoever it was is no friend of mine." I acknowledged.
I had no doubt Tea would disagree with my theory. Yes Miss Chouno is a teacher but that doesn't mean she can't be evil. The next day I was back at it again trying to convince my fellow students to sign.
"Help change the rules at Domino High!" I yelled.
I waved my signing board around in the air but people just walked right on past.
"Please!" Yugi repeated bowing beside me.
His approach was meeker than mine. It was at this time three guys came over to us looking all high and mighty. I recognised one in particular.
"Not you again." I groaned running a hand down my face.
"And you brought some back up with you this time, how lame."
Red head's eyebrow twitched a bruise clearly visible on his face "Tch."
"If you're not going to sign then I suggest you get lost." I informed them pointing away with my thumb.
"Who would sign that!" brown headed guy laughed.
"The rules are fine as they are right now." red head scoffed.
"No one's going to sign that!" Another guy said.
"Ah news flash people already have." I told flashing the board with a few more signatures then yesterday on it.
"There's no point really." red headed leader told.
He shrugged "It'll just cause the teachers to target you."
"You don't want the teachers to target you, because you too dumb to know the answers." I hissed aggressively.
"Why you!" red head snatched my signature board laughing manically.
"Look she's hardly gotten any!"
"Hey give that back!" I shouted trying to swipe it from him only for him to hold it out of reach.
I wasn't a short person but these guys were freakishly tall.
"Give it back!" Yugi cried stepping forward only to be blocked off by the other two guys.
"Do you want me to hit you again?" I threaten balling my fist.
"Get back!" other guy ordered pushing Yugi to the ground roughly.
"Leave him alone! He didn't do anything to you!" I raged shoving the guy back equally rough.
"Hmph no need for this anymore." leader snapped my board on his knee consequently tearing the paper.
"You'll pay for that." I growled.
It wasn't about the paper though. I could always print more. No, it was that they had pushed Yugi. Yugi! The most harmless and kind person on the planet. My fighting skills are rusty -to say the least- and purely for self defense, so unless they made a violent move I wouldn't do anything.
I wasn't one to start a fist fight -I much preferred verbal jousting- but these guys ticked me off so much I wanted to.
"Stop it, you bastards!" Joey yelled jumping right into the fight.
"Joey you're with these guys too?" red head looked surprised.
Joey however seemed to have quite a reputation when it came to fights. I'm guessing his skills weren't as minimal nor neglected as mine were.
"What a rule breaking punk." one of his minions spat.
"You're the ones harassing them!" Joey grabbed red head by the collar pushing him to the ground.
"Wait Joey!" He shouldn't get involved.
"Don't do it!" Yugi protested.
"I can't forgive them!" Joey yelled punching the guy right in the eye.
Ouch he's gonna need some make-up to cover that in the morning.
Then it turned into a full out brawl the other guys dog piled Joey. I had tripped one over while he went past but he only fell on Joey so that didn't help. Instead and I Yugi tried to pull them off Joey –who fought like a wild animal backed into a corner-.
Unfortunately asking them "nicely" didn't work so I may have used self-defence to help remove them but only to protect my friend. It went on this way until teachers came out to break up the fight. We were all sent to Miss Chouno in the advisor room for a time out.
"That's no good, violence at the school is a major rule violation." she told us calmly.
"It's their fault!" Joey defended.
"But the one who threw the first punch was you Joey. Keiko was forceful too though, how unladylike." she reminded.
"It's not Joey's fault he was just trying to stop them from harassing us!" I explained heatedly.
"Right. The source of all this was you, wasn't it?" she fixed her silent but deadly gaze on me.
I breathed a sigh; there was only one way to get Yugi and Joey out of this.
"Yeah, it was all me." I falsely confessed.
Anyone could tell I was lying. Miss Chouno just smiled knowing I was and also knowing why. It didn't take an expert to figure it out.
"Eh Keiko!" Yugi gasped perplexed.
"Then there is no need to revise the rules after all. There are students opposing you saying they are fine as they are." Miss Chouno told.
"They're just frightened because of some false rumour." I backed myself up.
Miss Chouno smiled again ignoring that statement. "Looks like you're going to get expelled after all Keiko."
"You failed to collect the signatures as agreed, have a continued uniform infringement and now you start a fight on school grounds. There is… little hope.".
There was silence for a moment as we regarded each other. Her savouring my failure like a tasty dish and myself telling her with my eyes to keep the others out of this.
She nodded subtly once before dismissing us "You may leave now."
I nodded stiffly, all three of us got up and left the room. The three other guys –who were a lot more roughed up than us- were waiting outside. I death glared all of them making them flinch under my gaze.
"Okay your next. Come in." Miss Chouno urged them inside.
"Okay." they all entered.
"Once I finish my report, I'll have the staff decide on a punishment."
She then turned to me the last sentence only aimed at Yugi and Joey.
"The principle will decide your fate." then the door slid closed.
So whether I'm expelled or not depends on how whipped the principle is, perfect.
Joey walked off with a cross expression on his face, Tristan, Miho and Tea -who had been waiting for us- followed.
Yugi looked at me worriedly "Just what kind of agreement did you and Miss Chouno have?" he inquired again.
"The deal was that if I could gather enough signatures she wouldn't have me expelled but it looks like my efforts were in vain." I sighed sadly.
This only seemed to make Yugi more concerned if that was possible. Seeing this I put on a brave face. I smiled at him warmly as I could with an aching heart that felt like it was covered in ice.
"No worries Miss Chouno is a corrupt lunatic, she'll be found out sooner or later then she'll get what's coming to her." I assured him.
I touched my hand to Yugi's shoulder shortly. I was trusting he knew. That I was sorry I didn't tell him everything, that I hadn't wanted to worry him and hoping he'd forgive me for it.
"Anyway I should go see the Principle and tell him the real story, 'cause I have a feeling Miss Chouno won't." I told him dropping my hand and trotting off toward the Principal's office.
It wasn't long after that I walked back down the hall, a frown surfacing on my face. I had gone to the principal's office. The secretary -the women I met on my first day here- was just packing up to leave. When I asked about the Principle she told me he wasn't there, nor was the vice principal.
To my disappointment my chance at redemption had failed miserably and it looked like I was going to be expelled. As I ambled down the hall toward the advisor room I heard faint voices coming from inside.
"My make up! MY FACE!"
Miss Chouno screeched like a banshee fleeing from the room both hands covering her face. She almost bowled my over in the process.
"Woah she really is a lunatic…. I was right!" I noted smiling to myself.
I looked sideways into the room and there to my surprise stood the other Yugi, dark Yugi. He looked back at me coolly wearing his blazer like a cape. Momentarily I thought of tackling him, tiring him up somehow and doing an interrogation to get some answers.
I realise this would be futile if he switched places with Yugi, I'd have Yugi tied up and not him. Which would make the point of the capture null and void. He looked at me with narrowed calculating eyes and I stared back at him. All the words that managed to come out of my mouth was.
"It's you…"
How lame I am.
He turned his head to look away from me like he was going to leave. So I jumped into the room to try and stop him.
"Wait wait wait wait… wait don't go yet. I just want to ask you something." I cried frantically.
He looked at me again presumably thinking over his options before he replied.
"Very well, but only one question." he crossed his arms… waiting calmly.
I chewed on my lip –a bad habit-. There were a million questions I wanted to ask but I could only choose one. So I chose.
"Okay… what is your name?" I queried.
He looked at me and blinked slowly before a smile slowly crept onto his face. It was like he was about to laugh, at me! But was controlling himself.
"Is that question funny to you?" I asked crossing my arms with a huff.
"Well compared to all the other, more serious, questions you could have asked, it is quite comical." he replied smirking.
"Good to know, but for your information I'm getting very tired of referring to you as the 'Other Yugi' or 'Dark Yugi'" I notified him.
"Now do you have a name or not."
"I do." he told smile dropped immediately.
"Great?" that sounded like a question.
"But I don't remember what it is."
His eyebrows came together like he was trying to remember what it was right now, but couldn't.
"Hmmm." I grunted in reply uncrossing my arms.
It was kind of hard to stay mad at a guy who couldn't remember his own name. In fact it thawed my heart and made it all wet and drippy with unrecognisable feelings.
"Okay then what should I call you?" I asked gesturing at him.
He shrugged "You may refer to me as you wish."
"Okay…. Ummm… ahhh… Yahh Yami, Yami then." I decided after a moment's thought.
For that name was oddly conversant. Like something someone had mentioned but hadn't been needed or important until now.
"Yah-me?"
From the sound of it Yami felt the same way.
"Yes Yami that is the nickname I have decided to bestow upon you just now, your welcome." I smiled at him.
"Why, Yami?" Yami repeated as if testing the name out.
"Because you're like a Yami Yugi, a dark more angsty version of Yugi" I explained.
He continued to stare at me.
"I think that it suits you" I eluded proud of myself for thinking of a name so quickly.
"Fine, you may call me 'Yami'" He agreed now seemingly uninterested.
"I wasn't really asking for your permission." I told grinning mischievously.
Yami didn't reply he just looked away, closing his eyes for a moment. The Millennium Puzzle around his neck began to glow.
"Thank you Yami, for helping save me those times." I thanked quietly looking at the ground.
This caused the corner of Yami's lip to curl in a smile, an honest smile.
"No need, it was my pleasure."
At least I think it was a smile before I could get a better look Yugi was standing there blinking his eyes open. My mind whirled deciphering what had just taken place and what I should say now.
"…. There you are Yugi! I was looking all over for you. Let's walk home together." I exclaimed like I had only just found him.
Yugi looked slightly confused but agreed none the less. As we walked home I realised something. Now that I had gotten a better look at him. I realised Yami had the same eyes that I had drawn ages ago on the morning I first went to Domino High and met Yugi.
That's just crazy though why would Yami be in my dream?
-Yami's PoV-
The scene of Miss Chouno running screaming out of the advisor room replayed in my mind, a satisfied smile on my face. I had successfully kept Keiko from being expelled and punished the one responsible for all the trouble. For some reason every time I see her face something sparks inside me.
Recognition perhaps, maybe she looks like someone I once knew. I cannot explain why I feel the overwhelming urge to always be near and protect her. Yugi, whose body I share, seems to also have this desire. There is defiantly something about her, something… special.
The simple fact that she can tell the difference between myself and Yugi is proof enough of that. I contemplated these things sitting on the golden throne of my mind room. The immense room sprawled out around me with many doors that seeped into the darkness, filled with traps to protect this mind.
Yet it felt empty and cold. The recent conversation I had had with her was strange. Of all the questions she could have asked she wanted to know what my name was. If only she knew how badly I wanted to know what it was too. I had a new 'nickname'.
"Yami."
This name I recognized somehow but it wasn't my true name. That much I was sure of. However something occurred to me. 'Nicknames' were given to people who were friends. Does that mean I am deemed friend?
-Keiko's PoV-
"Miss Chouno hasn't said anything. I wonder if we're in the clear." Joey observed leaning lazily against the roof fence.
"It's probably fine. As a beautification member I think she was unreasonable." Tristan told.
"Maybe I finally got through that thick make-up of hers and she realised she was wrong all along." I suggested shrugging as I sat next to Yugi on the ground.
"By the way, what was that jigsaw puzzle Keiko?" Joey asked leaning forward slightly looking sideways at me.
Damn I had been hoping he'd forget about that.
"Oh that, it was supposed to be a prank but she totally ruined it! Don't worry about it." I waved him off, lies slipping easily from my mouth.
"Just a prank." Joey grumbled crossing his arms.
Yugi looked at me blinking. I had heard form Miho that Mayumi had confessed love for a last year guy. She sure moved on quick. So as tough as Joey is I didn't want to hurt his feelings. There's no point in telling him if she doesn't like him anymore anyway.
Whoever the guy is I'm sure she's better off with him than Joey. Hopefully no more girls will get a crush on Joey any time soon. I don't think I could do all that again.
YAY!
So there you have it a lot of you wanted to see this episode and there it is so be happy
also I have noticed a lot of people want more intereaction with Yami so I'm showing a bit of that here
I didn't want to jump right into a relationship so I started it out slow with the two of them
but never you fear there will be many much longer Yami/Keiko scenes coming up in future the same goes for Yugi/Keiko
trust ill cram so much of it in there that you'll be sick of it by the end of the story ;P
but also i'd like to note that I see Yami and Atem as the same person so I wanted to establish their relationship in the past first before we got to the one here and now
also i put in a little of what I assume Yami would be thinking about all this.
I pray to Ra he wasn't ooc or anything like that. But if I find that he wasn't and that i did well I may do that more in future with other characters!
So let me know what you think.
Should I include some thoughts of other important characters?
