I do not own Haikyū!

It started off with little things. A Hey Chitose-San here and a Have a good day, Kuro-San there. Then it continued one day into lunch and - I think you used too much dye, Chitose-San... to end with Don't tell me my teeth are as blue as yours, Kuro-San!

And this is how that predicament came along:

It was a rainy Monday morning, with loud thunder and bright lightening. The school grounds were thoroughly soaked and Tetsuro highly doubted he and the volleyball team would be eating outside that day. So, while he could go find his teammates and sit with them in their classrooms, he found his eyes drifting over to the one and only girl he has ever taken time to eat lunch with.

Akiko had gotten there after him, coming in through the door at the front of the classroom. Their eyes had met and she smiled at him like he was the sun coming out behind the dreary clouds (and his stomach totally did not tighten in excited nerves) and he smiled back just as sincerely. And how could he not? No one had ever given him that type of smile and he was eating it right up, because there was a complete difference between the way she looked at him and the way that the other first year girls looked at him.

The bed-head boy had gotten used to the way the rest of the female population looked at him. The girls in his class typically rolled their eyes at him once they realized he lacked the 'mysterious' section of the tall-dark-and-handsome persona, his laughter and sheer derp-ness having them turn their heads in the other direction. While some of the girls that weren't in his class and have never witnessed his dashing personality shyly appreciated him from a safe distance. Then there was those other girls that seemed to undress him with their eyes, hungrily eating away at whatever flesh was exposed (it left him reeling but also had him keeping numerous things on his lap as not to draw more -cough- attention). Not to mention the girls that never even looked his way to begin with.

So, no. No girl other than Chitose Akiko had looked at him the way she did. He couldn't quite put a name to the look, but whatever it was made his palms (and feet) sweat, his heart race, and stomach fill with nerves he thought he could only get when playing volleyball. It was exhilarating, to say the least. It made him excited and scared all at the same time.

When lunch time rolled around, he sprung from his seat with lunch bag in hand.

"Good afternoon, Chitose-San. Mind if I join you for lunch?"

Akiko peered up at him from her lashes, running her fingers through her loose waves to hold behind her ear. He never noticed that she had her ears pierced until that moment. "Of course, Kuro-San."

Again, she smiled at him with that smile. The one he felt -he hoped- that was solely reserved for him.

As was their usual, he turned the table in front of her own around. It was always empty during lunch time, a small blessing he supposed.

"It doesn't seem like the weather is going to let up anytime soon," Akiko conversed while they took out their lunches.

"I heard it was supposed to rain for a few days straight," Tetsuro shrugged. Which would be a downer for him considering he had wanted to get Kenma out of the house and pass the ball around a little. But it seemed like they would both stay inside and play some videogames.

"Tennis will probably be put on hold for a little while, then." She opened her container and, as always, her bento was cutely decorated. This time it was set up like a landscape. Blue rice, presumably for the ocean if the little sardines placed in one corner was anything to go by. With nori, green vegetables, and mushrooms acting as the ground.

"Cute as always, Chitose-San," Tetsuro chuckled. And then he realized what he said a second too late and Akiko had already broken out into a blush and the back of his neck was burning and- "N-not you, though! Your lunch is cute! I wasn't talking about you- but not, not that you're ugly Chitose-San. Far from it! But no-wait-" He shoved a clump of his egg into his mouth, stuffing it as much as possible considering his foot was already in there and he was a fool.

"T-Thank you, Kuro-San," she murmured. She was still blushing, the entirety of her face a deep crimson color. Which startled him because he didn't think a person could turn so red, and shit he was the reason she looked like a tomato.

They sat there in silence for a minute, Tetsuro pretending to chew on food that he had swallowed long ago. But he couldn't bring himself to do much more. So he did what he thought he should do and reached over into her bento and ate her blue rice.

"Tastes like the ocean..."

Tetsuro's hazel eyes locked onto her brown eyes, and it seemed that was enough to break the awkward tension because she laughed and then took a scoop full of her own rice.

"You would be a master rice taster, wouldn't you, Kuro-San."

He chuckled, "Seems like you've found out about my secret night job then."

"I've sort of figured since the time that you said my pink rice tasted like just like rice."

"Well, this blue one," he said before taking another mouth full of it, "with just a little imagination, tastes like the ocean. With just a hint of rice. Not enough to overwhelm the dish."

She giggled at him and he couldn't help the lopsided smile that grew on his face.

As they continued to eat their lunch, with Tetsuro taking some of her food while at the same time placing his own onto her plate, he couldn't help how his smile continued to grow into a chesire grin.

"I think you used too much dye, Chitose-San..."

Akiko looked up at him with her eyebrows drawn close together before they rose high, her eyes growing wide.

"Don't tell me my teeth are as blue as yours, Kuro-San!"

But that was okay, he thought. Because she would look good in any color.

Pues... No se. But that's what I got. Idk what else. Late update as usual. But I would like to thank everyone for their reviews! As well as the follows! I really appreciate it considering how shabby of a job I do at this. So thank you for all the good reviews and follows and favorites. It really makes my day. I'd meant to update this earlier but I have so much going on in my life that it's just a mess and I'm a mess and oof.

Btw, y'all should give me prompts you would like to see! I'd love to hear what you all would like to see and try my hand at writing it out. Hopefully once I get on a schedule I should be updating more too.
