Queen Of Hearts - We The Kings.
"When I can't face all my demons, you are the one I believe in."
**Please note that from now on, this story will not be following the storyline of the show.
Brooke threw opened her closet doors, pushing the hangers apart as she tried and find an outfit.
A first day of school outfit.
If she had a say in it - which you would think she did, but she didn't - Brooke would be heading to school in her sweat pants.
Actually, she wouldn't be heading to school at all.
After all, she'd been to school way too many times already, and she really wasn't looking forward to it. At all. But, she was talked into it.
After spending a few weeks with someone, and they really start to become your only friend, you start to listen to them. As much as you don't want to.
Brooke did end up leaving town the morning after the ball, and was gone for about two weeks when she finally decided to return.
God knows why.
Her brothers and their little gang, though they knew she left, didn't even know she was back.
Once he found out, Stefan called almost every night, trying to convince his big sister to come home, but she knew she couldn't. Not yet. And deep down, Stefan knew that too. They both know, she needed to stay away, for a while.
As for Damon, he called too. Only a few times. But, he still called.
Brooke knew that the only reason he called was because Stefan made him. And he didn't push her to come back. He really only called to say hi then hang up again. The reason, because Damon was angry at himself for what happened to Elena so now he was pissed at the world.
In the end, it was Stefan that convinced Brooke to come home. At least, that's what she told herself.
Some times, really late at night, after a long day, Brooke would find herself lying in bed, thinking about Nik. Klaus. Whatever his name was. And that scared the crap out of her. It was also part of the reason why she came back. Which scared her even more.
Why the hell was she thinking about a mass murder? Why wasn't she scared of him? And why did she find herself always thinking about his damn smile and dimples and bright blue eyes?
"Coast is clear," a voice came from the doorway, walking into the room as Brooke jumped out of her thoughts of Klaus, hang up a cute spring dress. "Your brothers must be off with the precious little Elena."
Rolling her eyes, Brooke starting looking through her clothes again. "Stefan is gone to school, seen that it is already after nine and I'm late, and Damon is probably wasting the day away at the bar."
"Correction. Stefan is gone to school with Elena and Damon is at the bar, downing drinks, because he wants to be with Elena."
Getting annoyed, Brooke slammed the closet door closed, emptied handed, and spun around only to find Katherine lounging on the bed.
"Where are you going to stay when their home," Brooke crossed her arms. "Cause you sure as hell can't stay here."
Katherine shrugged. "Why not? Not like they'll notice me when they are so hung up on Elena."
"Stop talking about Elena." Brooke snapped before walked over to her dresser, digging through more clothes.
Katherine sat up on the bed, smirking. "Someone's touchy today."
Brooke took a deep breath, trying to calm herself. If someone could give her the answer to why the hell she was helping Katherine, of all people, stay hidden from her brothers, she would be forever grateful.
Because she didn't know the reason herself.
Then again, it was Katherine who convinced her - after Brooke finally decided to sit down and listen to her speak - to get out of town, even just for a few weeks.
Of course, at the time, Brooke didn't know that meant Katherine would be tagging along with her.
They flew to New York and did what every girl wants to do when they go to New York to escape from their crazy family and boys. They went shopping. And went to clubs, small cafés, more shopping.
And, aside from the calls from her brothers, thinking about Klaus and, even once or twice, thinking about the dark-haired man on the ground, the two didn't speak a word about Mystic Falls.
Brooke even had fun.
As odd as it was, it was nice hanging with Katherine. It was like having a real friend again. One who understood where she was coming from. Now, don't get her wrong, Brooke wouldn't trust Katherine with her life or anything, and she wasn't about to tell her all her darkest secrets. It was just nice to not travel alone for once and, as long as Katherine wasn't after her brothers - which she didn't seem to be - Brooke could deal with her. Somewhat.
Katherine was also the one who convinced Brooke to return to Mystic Falls - though Brooke would never admit it - and even though Brooke was pretty sure the reason Katherine wanted to return was so she could wreak havoc on everyone.
"If you're just going to sit there," Brooke turned around, hand on hip. "Can you at least help me pick out an outfit."
"I was waiting for you to ask." Katherine jumped off the bed and walked over to the dresser.
"Now, you go sit down Brookie," Katherine pushed Brooke towards the bed. "I'll make you look drop dead sexy for your first day."
"Not sexy," Brooke said as she sat down on the bed. "This is school. And don't call me Brookie"
"Fine," Katherine rolled her eyes before turning to the dresser. "Not too sexy."
God help me, Brooke sighed as Katherine started digging through her clothes
"So," Brooke opened her mouth after a few moments of silence, her eyes never leaving Katherine. "What exactly are your plans while in Mystic Falls?"
"Well, I would have to say staying away from Klaus is on top of the list," Katherine replied before looking over her shoulder, smirking. "Then again, if I had you with me I doubt he would actually do anything to me."
"Katherine-" Brooke tried to snap at her, but she just kept talking.
"Also, stay away from your brothers, my dishwasher doppelgänger and her friends, all the rest of the Orinigals-"
"I get it. Stay away from the whole population of Mystic Falls." Brooke cut her off, cause Katherine to glare at her over her shoulder. "What else do you have planned?"
"Can't I just go somewhere without having a plan for world domination?"
Brooke looked like she was thinking about it for a moment, before she smirked. "No, you can't."
"Funny," Brooke couldn't see it, but she knew Katherine rolled her eyes. "How is your little crush on Klaus going?"
"I don't have a crush on Klaus." Brooke glared at her back. "I don't even remotely like him."
"You keep telling yourself Brookie."
Brooke crossed her arms, keeping her mouth shut. She was not having this conversation with Katherine. Again.
For the better part of their trip, Katherine bugged Brooke to tell her about Klaus, and when she finally did, when she finally told her about that night on December 2nd and the night of the ball, Katherine started mock her about it.
And she hadn't stopped yet.
"Ohh, did I hit a nerve?" Katherine smirked as she walked over to the closet and started looking at Brooke's shoes.
"Do you want me to tell my brothers and everyone about you?" Brooke snapped.
"You won't do that."
"How do you know?"
"Because," Katherine picked up a pair of heels, smiling at Brooke as she turned around. "Face it, I'm the only friend you have right now."
Brooke wanted to say something, something witty and clever, so bad. But she couldn't. Because, like Katherine said, as much as she didn't like it, Katherine was really her only friend right now.
Plus, she couldn't stop the smile that came onto the face at the genuine smiled that showed on Katherine's.
If Brooke thought she was lonely, she knew it was nothing to how Katherine was feeling.
Really, she needed a friend more than Brooke did.
"Here," Katherine continued to smile, pushing clothes into Brooke's arms as she stood up off the bed. "Let's see all the boys keep their eyes off you now."
The outfit Katherine picked out was a lot better than Brooke thought it was going to be. It wasn't that sexy at all. Sure, the jeans hugged her perfectly and the top showed off her curves while the heels made her legs look miles long, but Brooke thought for sure she was going to be dressed for a nightclub.
It was around 10:30 when Brooke finally showed up for school, meaning there was pretty much no one in the hall seen that they were all in class. Which was a plus. Brooke wasn't in the mood to deal with all the stares right now.
After compelling the secretary to hand over a class schedule and put her name into the school system, using Damon's ridiculous story about her being Stefan's twin sister - she still didn't know why she used the story, but whatever - Brooke was off to class.
The rest of the day went by painfully slow, even though she only had to go to three classes and lunch. Her first class was Math and, by the time she got to class and explained to the teacher she was new, there was only about fifteen minutes left, pointless for her to actually do work, if she was going to do work.
Her next class was English, which was even more pointless for her to go to. The teacher spent the whole class talking about the possible themes for Julius Caesar, a story Brooke knew like the back of her hand. The teacher - Ms Harmun - did, however, make Brooke introduce herself to class, making the class ask her if was related to Stefan and Damon, to which Brooke replied by telling them she was Stefan's twin sister before taking her seat, not wanting to answer anymore questions.
The one class she didn't have today was History, a class she actually liked going to. Not because it was interesting, but because she loved listening to how wrong all the textbooks and teachers were. However, History was her first class of the day, meaning she missed it.
Finally, it was lunch time, and as much as she tried not to think about it, she knew there was a very high chance she would run into Stefan and Elena.
And she was right.
Walking outside to the panic tables, everyone who was standing around and sitting in groups, stopped and turned her way, staring at her as she walked by.
Raising an eyebrow at them all, Brooke just rolled her eyes, trying her hardest not to snap at everyone. This caused everyone to turn around, once again talking among themselves, this time about the new Salvatore.
"Brooke?"
Turing around, Brooke couldn't help the smile that formed on her lips as she saw her baby brother standing there.
"Stefan." Brooke walked his way before wrapping her arms around him, bringing him into a tight hug, one which he happily returned.
"I'm so glad you're back," Stefan smiled down at her as they pulled back. "Honestly though, I thought I would have to wait at least a few more weeks to see you again."
"What can I say, I missed my baby brother to much." Brooke smiled back, not mentioning anything about Katherine. "Besides. Just because I'm mad at Damon right now, doesn't mean I should take it out on you."
"Speaking of. Have you-"
"No," Brooke shook her head, the smile falling from her face. "I haven't seen Damon yet, nor do I plan to."
"He's your brother," Stefan pointed out. "You'll have to see him at some point."
"Don't care. We'll cross that bridge when he get to it."
Seeing that there was no way he was going to chance her mind, Stefan just shook his head, running a hand through his hair as he looked around at everyone glancing at them, talking among themselves.
"I told them I was your twin sister who just got back from France." Brooke explained to him, seeing the look on his face. "On't know how well it will work seen that we hardly look like twins, but, whatever."
Stefan turned to Brooke, an eyebrow raised. "Isn't that-"
"Don't wanna talk about it."
Stefan seemed like he wanted to say more on the subject, but the sound of his name being called out stopped him.
Looking past her brother, Brooke say Elena, Caroline and their little gang sitting at one of the panic tables. It was Elena who called out to him, and the moment her eyes landed on Brooke, her mouth shut closed and she lowered her eyes.
"I should..." Stefan started, causing Brooke to look back at him as he cleared her throat. "You can come sit with us if you'd like."
"No thank-you."
"Brooke."
"Seriously Stefan," She gave him a small, forced smile. "You go. I'm fine by myself. I just... I can't be around her. Not yet at least."
"What are you going to do then?" Stefan asked, and Brooke could tell by the look it his eyes that he was concerned about her, which broke her heart a little.
"I don't know. Scare some more young one I guess." Brooke smirked, cause Stefan to chuckle.
"I'll see you back at the house?" Looking at his face, Brooke knew he was worried. He was worried about going home, and finding his sister, once again, gone. After all, Brooke's record for staying wasn't exactly a good one.
"Stefan, I promise you," She took his hand in hers. "I'm not going anywhere."
"I hope not," He gave his sister one last, long look, before heading over to Elena and the gang.
Once Stefan was sitting at the table and, Brooke knew, starting to explain to everyone what was going on, Brooke sighed. She looked around her, trying to think of somewhere to go or something to do. She hated being by herself at lunch time, or any time at school really, because boys who thought they actually had a chance with her would come up and start talking, trying - and failing - to win her over.
However, and Brooke didn't know if she should be thankful or not, she didn't have to stand by herself for long.
"So, you're the new toy everyone is talking about."
Turning around, Brooke was met by a beautiful women with natural blond hair, light blue eyes, full lips and pale skin. She was taller than Brooke - which didn't say much - but she was still pretty short and the way she walked made her seem like the most important person in the world.
It didn't take Brooke long to realize just who she was.
"Brooke Salvatore, right?" The blonde smirked as she came to a stop in front of Brooke.
"That would be me." Brooke crossed her arms over her chest. "Let me guess, Mikealson, right?"
The blonde stared at her for a moment, as if studying her, or trying to read her mind, before a smile broke out onto her face. "Rebekah."
"You'll never guess who Damon managed to get into his bed this time." Stefan told Brooke over the phone only a night or two after she left.
"Oh god. I forget, when Damon's not killing people he's sleeping with women." Brooke rolled her eyes, not really caring, but still asked anyways. "Who?"
"Rebekah."
"As in Mikaelson?"
"You got it."
"That poor girl."
"Really?" Brooke could basically picture Stefan raising an eyebrow. "Damon sleeps with an Original and you say that poor girl?"
"Well, she is obviously going through something horrible to get in bed with Damon."
"Rebekah..." Brooke repeated, raising an eyebrow. "As in girl who was crazy enough to sleep with my brother."
"I see Damon told you."
"Please," Brooke rolled her eyes. "Stefan told me. Damon hasn't told me anything."
"I know how that feels," when she say Brooke's confused face, she explained. "Nik doesn't tell me anything. It's Elijah who always fills me in on what's going on. Well, sometimes. Speaking of," a smirk started to form on Rebekah's face. "I hear Nik's been taken a likely to you."
"Now see," Brooke's eyebrows pinched together. "I was just starting to like you, than you ruined it."
To her surprise, Rebekah laughed. "I wouldn't say that if I were you," She smiled, looking past Brooke. "Looks like someones not to happy."
Looking over her shoulder, Brooke saw Elena looking at them with narrowed eyes before she turned back around and started to whisper to the group, every now and then, someone who sneak a glance over at the duo.
"Oh, like I care." Brooke couldn't help but roll her eyes.
"Honestly, I have to say I am surprised." Rebekah looked back at Brooke with her blue eyes. "I thought for sure the first thing you would say to me was an insulted."
"Why would I?" Brooke said. "You haven't down anything to personally hurt me. Besides, you have to be going though some hard times right now."
"Why do you say that?"
"You slept with Damon."
"See," Rebekah laughed once again, causing Brooke to smile. "Now I like you"
"Good to know," Brooke smirked as the bell rung, telling everyone lunch was over and it was time for class.
"Well," Rebekah smirked as everyone around them started to get up and make their way to the last class. "I'm sure I'll see you around Brooke." She told her before she turned around and walked around, leaving Brooke standing by herself.
Sighing, Brooke ran a hand through her hair, the smile falling off her face as she realized she just got herself mixed up with another Original. And, even though Rebekah didn't seem to bad - yet - Brooke knew this was going to cause even more drama, which was something she really didn't need right now.
Damn Originals.
