Percy's P.O.V
I slowly took in my surroundings.
Left and right, stores passed with more or less the same name plastered on the top.
Jackson Inc.
Jackson's Metal Works.
Jackson Bakery and Sweets.
Jackson's Waterpark & Co.
Jackson's Market.
Jackson. Jackson. Jackson. Jackson.
The stores kept blurring by.
"Perce." Annabeth whispered beside me.
I pretended not to hear her.
"Perce." she poked me. Ignore.
"Percy." she said again. Ignore.
"Perseus." I cringed, but ignored.
"Jackson!" she punched me in the shoulder.
Hard.
What th-!
"Ow! Don't punch me?!" I shouted.
"You wouldn't answer." she looked smug with herself...of course.
"Well I'm sorry I had my headphones on. Geez. I'm not a punching bag." I muttered, rubbing my arm. She rolled her eyes.
"Sometimes I wish you were though."
"Hahahahaha," I laughed as sarcastically as possible, "What did you want, anyways?"
"You didn't tell me your family practically owned this town," she said, looking out the window.
Before I could get a word out, my mom interjected before I could say anything.
"He's probably being modest, dear. He never really cared for the fame that came with our family business. Which I'm proud of." I internally groaned. Leave it to my mom to make me sound modest and noble.
"Oh. Well, that's very humble of you Percy." Annabeth replied. I rolled my eyes.
"Yup. Humble. That's me," I muttered as we pulled up to the pier.
"We're here!" my mom said, getting out of the car.
Annabeth looked at me confused.
"I thought you said you live here. So why are we getting on a boat?" I smirked at her.
"I said that? Whoops. Well, we live on another island, so we have to take the boat."
"O-okay." she seemed to pale a bit. I raised an eyebrow.
"What? Scared of some water?" I went to the trunk, and pulled my backpack out. She muttered, and I almost didn't catch it.
"Something like that." she started pulling her suitcase and backpack out of the trunk. She sounded genuinely concerned. I kinda felt bad for her.
You know, you wouldn't be in this mess if it weren't for her.
Haha. Never mind. No I don't.
I quickly made my way down the first ladder, and over to the dock were my mom had already climbed down the second ladder and into the boat, and threw my backpack in beside her. She looked at me before raising an eyebrow.
"You know Percy, most boyfriends help with their girlfriend's luggage. I don't really believe that whole feminist thing, so you better go help her before I end up not making you cookies." At the word cookies, I perked up.
"Cookies?" I looked at her.
I could tell she was trying not to smile behind her fake frown.
She sighed dramatically.
"Well it doesn't matter now. You don't seem to be moving to go help Annabeth." I groaned and looked up at the ladder where Annabeth seemed to be struggling, trying to getting her suitcase down.
Why should I help her? She's not even my real girlfriend. She's my boss!
"Uhhhhhg-"
"You better go, or no coo-"
"Don't finish that sentence! I refuse to let it become true!" I got out of the boat, well more liked quickly leaped out, climbed up the second ladder, and walked up to where Annabeth was still struggling and dangling a few feet in the air from the first.
"Gimmie that." I sighed, and reached up to catch her suitcase.
"No, I got it."
"No you don't. Throw it down. It'll go faster."
"Percy, I said I got it."
"Just give it to me," I said, as I reached up and yanked it. She protested for a second, before I caught it and brought it down. Huh. Light.
I looked up to her and smirked. She glared down at me.
"Go ahead. Laugh at me. 'Oh. Annabeth, you're so weak." she said in a really high pitched voice. I scoffed.
"I do not sound like that." she smiled.
"Sure. You keep telling yourself that." she replied as she let go of the last rung.
I huffed, and glared back at her.
I walked back down the second ladder, and waited as Annabeth continued her struggle on the second ladder.
"Annabeth, come on. You're taking forever." I huffed, as I watched her shakily (and slowly) put one foot below the other.
"I'm trying. Will you just shut up for a second?" she replied, mumbling as she tried to find the next arms shook as she lowered herself down.
"Didn't you used to be good at this rock climbing stuff when we were at camp." I recalled. Thinking about how many times I had seen her win at the rock wall
"Well, that was a while ago. If you hadn't noticed...I'm a little rusty" she muttered, lowering herself down at the speed of a turtle.
"A little rusty..." I mumbled under my breath.
"I heard that!" she replied, as she found the last rung and stepped off the ladder.
"Wow...congratulations. I am now a hundred years old." she punched me in the arm, and walked past me, rolling her eyes.
I made my way towards the boat, where Annabeth wasn't budging from her spot on the pier.
"What now," I groaned, throwing her suitcase and backpack next to mine.
"I-i don't think t's such a good idea." she said, shaking her head. I sighed, frustrated, and hopped in.
"Come on, Annabeth. The only way to the island is by boat."
"But...I just...I don't...I don't know how to swim!" she concluded, making up an excuse to stall.
"Um...hence the use of a boat," I responded, almost like I was responding to a child.
"Uhhh. Are you sure it's safe?" she questioned. I sighed, holding my hand out to her.
"Yes, I'm sure. Just hurry up and get it, will you?" she remained silent, and after a few seconds, she nodded her head and took my hand.
I watched with a mixture of fascination and intrigue as Annabeth attempted to get into the boat. One hand was on the side of the boat, while the other hand was in mine. She shakily pulled one leg in, but as she pulled the other one in, hit the side of the boat, causing her to trip. She was on the bottom in a few seconds.
"Woah! You're okay, you're okay...I got you," I said, trying to contain my laughter. I turned over my shoulder to see my mom glaring at me.
"Annabeth, sweetie! you okay? Percy help her up." Annabeth started turning the color of a tomato. I snickered.
"I am, give me you're hand, Annabeth. Are you okay?" I held it out, and she gladly accepted it.
Then she yanked me down.
I stumbled a bit, and almost went straight over the other side of the boat.
She started laughing.
I glared at her.
"Maybe." she stood up, and brushed herself off. My mom chuckled behind her.
"Okay you two. Just sit back there. I'll drive." I grumbled, and scooted to the far edge of the seat, brooding for a few moments. She smirked, and scooted over.
"What, babe, did I upset you?" she smiled and crossed her arms.
"Of course not Wlse girl. I was just thinking about something." she glared at me for using the nickname.
I smirked, and looked out over the ocean.
My mom finally started the boat, and drove it towards the island that I used to call home.
