Seven: Red.
Things continued to be great for Sasuke and I even after his parents moved away. He had moved in with his brother but he stayed with me nearly every day. I didn't think it was possible for us to get any closer but our relationship just got tighter. I didn't even notice people gossipping anymore. We were totally and completely in our own little world.
One evening, Sasuke and I sat in my back yard. I was sipping on some tropical fruit juice while he smoked a cigarette and stared quietly at the dimming sky.
"What are you thinking about?" I asked him.
"Just some things, I guess." He replied. I glanced at him. He didn't appear troubled in any way, but he had always been good at hiding that.
"What things?"
He was quiet for another minute before he crushed his cigarette ain an ashtray we had made out of one of my mom's little side bowls.
"Doesn't matter." He said, rubbing the back of his next and turning to look at me with his dark, dark eyes. His lips almost twitched into a smile as he gave me a quick peck on the tip of my nose. I wrinkled it and shoved him lightly, laughing.
Eventually, Ino's birthday party came around. Sasuke and I looked fucking spectacular. We got a cab from my place to Ino's father's house: a large, modern built space with room enough to fit a family of twelve even though only two of them lived in it. Music was already pumping out of windows, the bass buzzing in our ears. I was pumped.
Before we could enter the house, however, Sasuke put something in my hand. I opened my palm slowly to see what he had placed there to find a small red pill with a smiley face on it. I looked at him with wide eyes.
"What is this…?" I asked him, positive that he could hear my voice faltering.
He squeezed my other hand and closed my palm as a large group of boys walked past us, cackling and bantering.
"It's something to make this night a little more fun." He murmured and winked.
I smiled half a smile, "I'm not sure, Sasuke…"
"It's okay," He said, "I'm right here with you. Don't you trust me?" He smirked, and then he stuck his tongue out.
I laughed nervously and placed the pill onto his tongue. He swallowed it without batting an eyelash. "Now, you."
"I…" I looked at him. I did trust him. Of course I did. Fuck it. How bad could it be? I squeezed my eyes shut and stuck my tongue out, trying not to imagine my mother's disappointed face as the pill touched my tastebuds. Yuck.
I quickly swallowed it and looked up into my boyfriend's deep, dark eyes, searching for something that told me I would be safe with him on this strange substance.
He just grinned.
