Another redone chapter. Short yet I suppose important. Getting closer to publishing the next chapter.
David stumbled back to his room, somehow making it to his bed. His eyes burned with the lack of sleep, yet his mind would not stop wondering. He pulled his comforter over his head. The air beneath his comforter was hot, yet it seemed to comfort his cold body. His eyes slowly closed, the distinction between reality and fantasy blurring.
David felt a cool wind wash over his body. He covered his hand to protect himself from the shining light. His hand ran over something wet; he looked down to see grass. A smile tugged on his lips. He rolled his body over it as a soft breeze rustled through the grass and trees. A giggle from across the open field made David shift to a sit position. A young girl twirled across the field. Her bronze hair cascaded down her tiny frame in small ringlets. She danced around in the grass with grace and purpose. David studied her from his position at the edge of the forest. A sense of protection washed through his body for the unknown girl. She stopped once she saw him and turned to him. A smile danced on her lip, her brown eyes encouraging him to join her. David stood up and began the walk over to her. He spun around trying to mimic her movements. A growl from the woods made him stop. He looked at the girl and saw Aro next to her. He reached out and placed his hands on the girls face.
"Please Aro," his mouth moved; his tongue trying to roll out the words. A high pitched scream ends with a snap.
David's eyes flew open and he held his chest as he grasped for breath. No matter how much he tried to breathe in, his lungs never felt full. His lungs ached and his face was covered in sweat. He tossed his sheets aside and placed his bare feet on the cold floor. He took the novel off his nightstand and tore a page from it. With a pen he quickly sketched the lines of her face then moved onto her ringlets. After he was finished, he gently tore the page from the book and folded it up.
"It was not real," his voice was no more than a whisper, "she is fake." David found his voice alien to himself.
He went silent as his eyes fell upon his reflection in the mirror. His bare chest had a variety of scars, most of which David could not recall how he received them. His reddish-green eyes were now accompanied with deep purple underneath from his recent lack of sleep. His hair was messy from his constant movement while sleeping. He attempted to smile at himself but the reflection horrified himself.
David could not comprehend how people saw him as being "beautiful".
"You look like a monster. A mindless, killing monster," he pointed at himself in the mirror. His face lacked any trace of innocence he once held.
David huffed out his breath. It was not a bad life to live, it was just a life he didn't want to live forever. He craved the places outside of the walls.
David yanked the closest shirt to him and brought it to his nose. The smell wasn't too terrible. He pulled it on and sprayed cologne over himself.
"As good as new."
Someone slammed their fist into the door. David flickered his eyes in the direction.
"Come on David, I don't got all day to wait around."
David left his room and followed after Felix. Felix stopped and stood in front of him, his arms crossed with a smug expression.
"You were taking too long," he muttered which David answered with a shrug. Felix glared at the half-breed and raised his hand in a gesture for David to attack him. "Hurry up, Aro most gratefully bestowed me the duty of making sure you, his little toy, can defend yourself," his tone reflected sarcasm and boredom at the assignment.
"Lucky me," David muttered.
Felix smirked. David threw himself at Felix. Felix easily dodged David's blow. The 'fight' went on in this matter for hours. David would throw punches while Felix would swing his body out of the reach of David's hands. Felix gave a pretend yawn.
"I would say you hit like a girl, but you haven't hit me yet," he spat at David.
"At least I don't look like one," David scoffed back. Felix raised his eyebrow and swung his fist straight into David's stomach. He took David by the neck and threw him against the wall.
Everything was a blur. David's chest swelled as his lungs filled with air. Very slowly, he forced himself to his knees and opened his eyes. David grunted and in a quick motion, he rolled and stood up. His body instinctively bent low in a fighting stance. He reached out and seized Felix and dragged him close. David's vision started blinking in-and-out, distorting his image of Felix. His muscles twitched and trembled. His body felt like it had been torn apart and glued back together. His heart pounded painfully in his chest, and his limbs twitched involuntarily every few seconds.
He lifted Felix with a grunt and threw him across the room into the marble floor causing it to crack. Felix rose quickly and on one blink stood in front of David.
"That was good," he gave David a genuine smile, "however, you still have a weakness." With this remark, Felix brought his knee straight up in David's groan area. David groaned and fell to the floor in pain.
"Come back when you fix that 'Achilles heel'" Felix chuckled as he exited the room. "Oh Demetri is going to love this."
