A/N: Now that everything is actually fixed, I can continue my fic without painfully long waits in between chapters. I also decided to try and put this chapter in Jim's POV. I might go back and forth between chapters. Anyways, here's chapter seven!
Jim POV
Reaching the top of the hospital rooftop, I sent Sherly a text.
I'm waiting... JM
Even though he was only downstairs, I still figured I had some time to kill. Pulling the phone out of my pocket, I turned on Stayin' Alive. The final problem. But it's so boring, isn't it? Just... staying.
Oh, that's good. I thought. I should use that.
As I saw Seb's signal that Sherlock was heading up, I turned up the volume.
And now it's alright. It's ok. And you may look the other way. We can try to understand the new york times effect on man.
Whether you're a brother or whether you're a mother you're stain' alive, stain' alive.
Feel the city breakin-
I am pulled out of it when the door suddenly opens revealing Sherlock. "Well," I say to him. "Here we are at last. You and me, Sherlock. And our problem; the final problem. Staying alive! So boring, isn't it?" I say, turning off the song. "It's just... staying." I say, putting extra emphasis on staying. Good one, Jim. I thought to myself.
"All my life I've been searching for just a distraction, and you were the best distraction. And now I don't even have you! 'Cause I've beaten you!" At this he stops, and actually looks at me. Good, I think. Now I got Sherly paying attention.
"And you know what?" I continue. "In the end it was easy. Now I got to go back to the ordinary people. And now it turns out you're ordinary, just like all of them!" Now I can tell Sherly's upset. He is just too easy.
"Oh well!" I say, standing up. I walk over to him, and lean close. "Did you almost start to wonder if I was real? Did I nearly get ya?" I say, chuckling.
"Richard Brook." He replies. "Nobody seems to get the joke," I say. "But you do."
"Of course. Richard Brook in German is Reichenbach. The case that made my name."
"Atta boy." I say. I knew I made it too easy on him. "Just trying to have some fun!" As I pass behind him, I notice his fingers. "Ooh, you got that one too."
"Beats like digits, every beat is a one, every rest is a zero. Binary code. It's why all those assassins tried to save my life. It was hidden on me, hidden inside my head. A few little lines of computer code that could break into any system."
"I told all my clients," I reply. "Last one to Sherlock is a sissy."
"Yes, but now that it is up here, I can use it to alter all the records." He pauses momentarily. "I can use it to kill Richard Brook and bring back Moriarty."
Oh goodness gracious, I think. Sher, you make this too simple for me. "No, no no no you make this too easy, this is just too easy." I look at him, his face contorting in confusion. Little Sherly thinks he knows everything, doesn't he. I get up in his face, so he can get the message. "There is no key; DOOFUS!" I shout at him.
"Those digits are meaningless," I say, spreading out my arms. "Utterly meaningless. What did you think, a couple lines of computer code are gonna crash the world around you? I'm disappointed, I'm disappointed in you!"
"But the rhythm," He falters. His resolve is breaking. Good.
"Partita No. 1!" I shout at him. "Thank you Johann Sebastian Bach!"
"Then how-"
"How did I break into the bank? Into the prison?" I spin around to face him, flinging my arms around. "Daylight robbery! All it takes is some willing participants. I knew you'd fall for it. That's your weakness," I say, quieting my voice and pointing at him. "You always want everything to be clever. Now shall we finish the game?"
Sebastian POV
After hearing Jim say this, I knew that meant that John was on his way. I signaled the other assassin, and then sent a quick text to Mary, the sniper keeping tabs on the DI. Then I headed down the stairs to a window overlooking the street outside.
Now this was the part I wasn't sure of. I knew when to shoot, but I wasn't sure what Jim had planned. He had been strangely avoiding telling me. I can't hear them perfectly from here, so I turn up my earpiece.
"Thank you, Sherlock Holmes. Thank you. Bless you." Then I hear him clear his throat. "As long as I'm alive you can save your friends." Realization hits me like a bullet. This wasn't the plan. Oh God, no. "Well good luck with that."
I can't run up there fast enough. He had locked the door behind me.
The sound of the gunshot slices through the air.
Jim had killed himself. And I let him. I rip out the earpiece, only filled with static now.
I feel the urge to scream, but I still have orders.
Hands shaking, I make my way back down to the window again. The cab John is in pulls up to the hospital. Lifting the rifle, I try my best to listen to their conversation.
"Keep your eyes fixed on me. Please, will you do this for me?" I can't take this. At least John knows what is going on.
Shaking my head, I try to clear it. Just wait for Sherlock to jump, that's all you have to do.
"Goodbye John."
When I hear the dull thud of his body hitting the pavement, I stand up. My services are no longer need here.
Present
As I make it back to the flat, I sit down and think. I need to move on. Everyone else has, so why can't I? Even the assassins who were there with me. Mary's even gotten together with John. Although I'm sure as hell she hasn't told him.
Then I realize I've been is this situation before.
I smile ruefully as I grab my coat and head out to get some coffee.
A/N: How do you all like the thing I did with Mary? (I know it's not her real name but A.G.R.A doesn't give you a lot to go on.) I've really been thinking about that theory that she had worked for Moriarty, it does make sense. Leave a review or message me your opinions!
