"Would you like a cup of coffee?" Mrs Davidson asked and Emily accepted gratefully.
"I'll come help you." Emily offered hoping to get information from her with out the boy's watching her every move. Seriously she had been at this the same time as them and still they treated her like a novice.
Emily had been three when her father sat her down and told her about the monsters that ate people, had told her about the family business. Emily had sat wide eyed and fearful as her father went in to details about how to kill the things.
She couldn't sleep on her own for five years.
The only upside to this was when kids were scared of the dark and afraid of the thing under their beds Emily knew how to kill it. The fear her father had enforced in her made her strive to survive ,as the family motto went, and she could handle a shotgun by that time too.
"Coffee dear?" Mrs Davidson asked sweetly when they made it to the kitchen. Emily screwed her face up in disgust and Pauline laughed "Not a fan huh? no worries, I don't like it either." she pulled out some tea bags and Emily smiled.
"So why'd you keep your maiden name?" Emily asked
Pauline gave a sad smile "All my family are dead. Apart from mom, but she's still in her coma." she sighed "I guess it feels like I still have a connection to them. Like their dead but their still here." she looked at Emily as if for understanding.
Emily did understand.
It was the reason she kept Kitty's ring with her, it gave her comfort to think that as long as she had that ring Kitty was always with her. Some times she would talk to the ring as if it was her sister and afterwards cry at the silence that answered her.
Emily nodded "I understand."
000
Pauline's husband sat opposite Sam and Dean looking awkward. "So, did your wife's cousin have any enemies?" Dean asked
"Not that I know. But this isn't the first person from her side to be murdered." he said and Sam leant forward using his 'I understand your pain' expression that usually got people to talk.
"How so?" he asked.
"Last week her aunty Marie was killed, same way too." suddenly a little boy with black hair and blue eyes appeared on the stairs.
"Daddy." he said "Who are these people?" Alex starred at the boys just as Pauline and Emily came back with the coffee and tea. Pauline smiled "Their FBI baby."
Alex frowned "They should go, Reece says they should go." he held a teddy bear in his left hand while he tugged his Spiderman top down as if nervous.
Emily put the mugs on the coffee table "Why would Reece say that?" she asked softly, Alex turned his attention to her.
"Because it's not safe." suddenly the air grew colder and Emily grabbed her messenger bag from the floor. Throwing open the bag she pulled out iron filings with one hand while the other pulled her skirt down to show she wore shorts underneath.
A boy appeared. He looked about eighteen with black hair plastered to his forehead like he had been sweating, and blue sorrowful eyes. He looked like an older Alex, who was stood in front of Reece.
"Is that Reece?" Emily asked Sam, before Sam could answer Pauline had.
"Reece, how are you here?" the awestruck woman asked softly.
Reece pointed at his sister "Go." he said "Go." suddenly the furniture started to shake and rattle as if the ghost was having a tantrum, but Reece stood still and calm as a teenaged girl came rushing down the stairs. "Mom!" she screamed, messy black hair falling wildly in her face and blue eyes staring at Reece who was in her way.
"Come here Caroline." Pauline said holding her hand out for her daughter. Reece stepped aside as she passed, keeping close to the wall so she didn't touch him.
Suddenly a vase flew across the room and hit Emily on the head. She fell cursing like a sailor on her ass spilling the filings. "Salt!" Sam yelled at Dean who nodded and ran to the kitchen. Sam bent down and pulled Emily to her feet.
Meanwhile Pauline's husband pulled at the door, but to no avail. Pauline stood shaking with her daughter and son clutching at her in fear.
Emily scooped up a small portion of iron filings ready to throw at Reece who had appeared in front of the family. Sam stopped her "Look." he told her.
A whole freaking chair was flung at the family, Emily made to push the family out of the way but Sam held her arm in his iron like grip.
Reece waved his hand and...
He flung the chair side ways. He was protecting them, not hurting them.
Emily patted Sam's arm "You are the smart one." she said as Dean ran in with the salt about to dump it on Reece. "Wait Dean!" Both Emily and Sam shouted.
"He's helping." Sam said when Dean glared at them. Reece disappeared and Dean poured the big bag of salt around the huddling family.
"Emmy, you got any other stuff in that bag?" Dean shouted and Emily nodded running to the messenger bag that had slid across the room in the confusion. But before she could get it some one pushed her against the wall, it wasn't a hand against her throat that made her unable to move. It was a hand squeezing her heart like a soft ball.
This is why she hates ghosts.
Stood in front of her was an old man with watery blue eyes and close cropped salt and pepper hair. He had a scraggily beard and the hatred burning in his eyes almost scared the crap out of her.
"Dad!" Pauline yelled in shock.
"Sam...Shot...gun." She wheezed out. Sam dived for the bag, but The man used his ghost powers to pin him to the wall. Emily closed her eyes ready for death. At least she wouldn't be ripped apart by hell hounds, right?
Suddenly he was ripped from her by Reece barrelling in to her attacker. She fell panting and string wide eyed looking for Dean who had disappeared. Sam and Emily shared a look that meant 'where's Dean?'
Pauline's father appeared in front of the salt line looking at her with distaste. "How dare you disobey your father!" he yelled, then turned to Sam and picked him up by the throat. Emily grabbed her bag and produced a shotgun.
With shaking hands she tried to load the rock salt in to the gun, but her fumbling hands couldn't stop dropping them.
She was going to lose Sam.
Like Kitty.
No.
A ghostly hand loaded the gun for her. She looked up to see Reece giving her a look "Don't give up." then he was gone and Emily raised the gun. Although her hands where shaking the gun still met its' mark, with a scream he disappeared only to now stand in front of her.
The father screamed as flame licked it's way up his legs, then his torso, to finally burn his face. "Take that you son of a bitch." All eyes where on Dean holding a burning watch.
Emily had never been so happy to see him.
ooo
"So your not FBI?" Pauline asked and Sam shook his head as he, Dean and Emily loaded up the car. She took a breath "So what happened to Reece?" She asked fearfully.
Emily popped her head out of the boot "My guess. He finished his unfinished business and now he's at peace." Pauline nodded.
"so it was your dad who put your mom in a coma, he was trying to protect you from your father?" Sam asked closing the boot and Emily narrowly missed her head being chopped off.
Pauline nodded "Dad was a mean drunk, he'd come home and start beating on mom. When he got tired it was my turn. But this time he pulled a gun." She looked fearfully at Sam "I honestly though I was going to die. Reece wrestled the gun off him, but it fired accidently."
"That's when your Dad got shot." Sam asked and Pauline nodded.
"He shot Reece before when he got in the way. Reece died of blood loss." she whispered sadly.
Emily hugged her awkwardly and gave her a piece of paper with her number on it, "you need anything just call." she said and got in to the car soon followed by the boys.
Pauline leant down to the open car window "Thanks. For everything."
They said goodbye again and left to hit the road.
It had only been a couple of hours and Sam ,who was shotgun, was balancing his laptop on his knees precariously. "Hey, guy's I got a Case. In Omaha. Looks like a Demon thing."
In the back seat Emily had sunk down low. Looks like she was going to Omaha.
Great.
At least she had her necklace back.
I want to know is Emily believable as a person? if not Why? lotsa love Huntress
