Whoa did I just update another chapter so quickly? Yes. I did. I wrote this last night while drinking a bottle of champagne. So please forgive any mistakes. Enjoy!

Wateri looked into the back view mirror at the two passengers in the car with him. He had followed L's instructions, yet he had to admit that he was surprised of what the detective has requested. Wateri was no fool, he was very far from it. He had lived a long life of which he would like to think he gained a great deal of wisdom. Granted his life had not always been an easy one, and he had made choices whose consequences would haunt him long afterwards.

Wateri had once been a very different man filled with raging ambition and dreadful pride. These traits had been his hubris and had led him to partake in some heinous crimes. Yet all that had changed when Wateri met L. At the time he had just been a boy, no older than 4 years of age. Yet for reasons that he couldn't exactly explain Wateri had been drawn to the boy. L had sparked a change in him, one which would lead him to redirect his entire life. Looking back at it now, Wateri could still not accurately explain why L brought this change in him, only that he had. If asked now, Wateri would give the honest answer that it had been the best decision of his life, and that Wammy's house was his proudest accomplishment.

Having said that, he had been by L's side ever since the young man had first started his quest of becoming the world's best detective. Wateri understood for the most part how L functioned, why he made the decisions he did, what motivated him and what irked the man to no end. Yet as Wateri continued driving and stealing glances at the other two individuals in the car, he could not for the life of him, fathom why L had requested their presences. As the task force building came into view, Wateri let out a small sigh deciding to trust in L's judgement, hoping that he knew exactly what he was doing.

"Can you try to explain once more what it is you saw?" L calmly asked.

Sakura shook her head violently as she grabbed the cup of coffee which laid on the table, not caring that it did not belong to her, only wanting to relieve her suddenly dry throat. L watched almost amusingly had she took a large gulp of liquid, only to choke it up and spit it back into the cup.

"L what the hell, this tastes like diabetes!"

L blinked, frowning at what use to be his coffee cup and his now soiled coffee.

"You shouldn't have taken what was not yours."

"There is no way this is healthy for you!"

"On the contrary it helps me think."

"Lies."

Reaching for the other clean cup he had brought, L poured more coffee into it and placing a fraction of the sugar he usually put. After giving it a quick stir he then handed the cup to Sakura, who mumbled a thanks and took another large gulp.

"Mhm much better!" She said, smiling at the detective who only blinked in response.

After watching her drink the rest of the coffee blissfully, L decided to once again ask her about the visions she had seen.

"I already told you, I didn't see anything. I heard it. It was like...Oh, I don't even know how I can explain it." Sakura said, watching L's eyes narrow a bit at her words.

"Try." He stated in a tone that left no room for arguing.

Closing her eyes Sakura concentrated on the words that had whispered in her mind. They made no sense to her, but perhaps L would have better luck depicting them.

"It was like a code of some kind. Or maybe directions? I'm not sure."

L's expression urged her to continue her explanation, and so she tried to rank her mind for more details.

"I remembered…well…" She trailed off, her gaze shifting to the ground. "Honestly you might think I'm crazy if I tell you."

L's stare continued to bore into her and she raised her gaze back to him.

"I believe it might be too late for that." He mumbled out.

Feeling a grin tug at her lips, Sakura threw some leftover cake crumbs at him, chuckling at the bemused look that appeared on his face.

"Sakura."

"If the cause of death is not written, then the victim shall die of a heart attack."

All previous amusement drained from L's face as he listened to her statement. Sakura looked back at him waiting for an explanation that would make sense of her words. If anyone could do so, then it would certainly be L. Raising his thumb back up towards his bottom lip, L continued thinking silently, not caring to share any of his thoughts, much to Sakura's annoyance.

"Interesting." He finally stated after a while, watching Sakura's expression brighten as she demanded he reveal his revelation.

"You truly are insane." He answered in a dry tone.

Much to L's inner amusement Sakura's expression dropped as she fell face first onto the couch she was sitting on. Letting out small growl Sakura quickly picked herself up, taking another handful of cake crumbs and chugged them once more at the detective, who again only blinked in response.

"Not funny jerk!" She cried out, a bit annoyed with L's words.

Brushing crumbs from his hair, L spared her a glanced and noticed how her cheeks had turned bright. He was unsure if that was due to anger or embarrassment.

"My apologies, but from my understanding your statement doesn't hold much meaning."

Crossing her arms Sakura let out an angry huff, irritated that L had dismissed her first memory has meaningless.

"Or it could be the solution to your entire case. You don't know." She said in a teasing tone, challenging L to claim otherwise.

Popping a sugar cube in between his lips, L looked as if he was actually taking her words into consideration. After a couple of moments his eyes shifted back to Sakura and he let out another one of his grins.

"True, but then again, neither do you." He replied.

Sakura smiled back, another witty comeback on the tip of her tongue, when their conversation was suddenly interrupted by a knocking at the door.

"Excuse the intrusion, but the guests you have requested are at the lobby sir."

Again Sakura saw as all signs of amusement vanished from L's face as his unreadable mask slipped back on.

"Thank you Wateri, we shall be right down."

Sakura frowned a bit as she watched him stand from the odd position he had taken on the couch in front of her.

"We?" She said in a hesitant voice and L turned to face her, expression still closed off.

"Yes we. Now let's get going, it's rude to have guests waiting."

Nodding Sakura also stood from the couch, stretching her arms above her head. "Sakura there is something we did learn about you from this conversation."

Startled she looked up at him and noticed a slightest hints of teasing in his tone.

"We found out you're a coffee person."

Sakura couldn't help the smile that broke out on her face as she followed L out of the room. And although it might just have been her mind playing tricks on her again, she could have sworn that there were hints of a grin on his face as well.

"Thank you for coming on such short notice." L said, addressing the two guests that stood in the main room of the lobby.

Sakura followed behind L and immediately felt the breath rush out of her as she noticed who exactly had been waiting for them. Forcing a neutral expression on her face, she willed herself to not stare at the man standing in front of her. He was just as she remembered, neatly combed hair which complimented a handsome face and a pair of hazel eyes which locked instantly on her. A gentle smile graced his features as he took a step towards them.

"Sakura, I'm so glad you're alright."

"Light," she started, aware of how closely L was watching the interaction between them. "Yeah, thanks."

A snort was heard and Sakura's attention was brought to the woman standing next to Light. She was the same one which had confronted her at Lights apartment all that time ago. Her blonde hair was pulled up in two twin pigtails, and her blue eyes narrowed when they spotted her. Stepping into line with Light Misa grabbed onto his arm, giving Sakura a pointed glare.

"How touching, but we didn't come here for you. We came because Ryuzaki wanted to discuss some very important information." She spat out, with a fake sweetness in her tone.

All eyes shifted to L as and he stood in the center of the room, finger raised to lip observing the others. Realizing that he now was the focus of all the attention, L blinked and placed an innocent expression on.

"I said that?"

"Knock it out Ryuzaki, why did you have Misa and I brought here so late?" Light asks in a tone which hinted his annoyance towards the detective. L ponders his question for a bit before glancing at Misa.

"Actually, I wanted to wanted to discuss this 'very important information', with only you Light."

Color rushed to Misa's cheeks as her grip on Light's arm tighten and she pointed an accusing finger at L.

"Then why did you have me brought here!?" She yelled out.

"Yeah and why am I here?" Sakura blurted in, adding her complaints into the discussion.

L looked between both women and both stared back at him with the same annoyed expression. Seeing his opportunity, Light quickly mumbled something about having to use the restroom before excusing himself briefly from the room.

"Well," L started watching Misa cross her arms in front of her, "I brought you here to keep Sakura company while I talk with Light."

Sensing the dark aroma suddenly forming around the girl, Sakura quickly stepped in placing a hand on L's shoulder, shifting his attention to her.

"That's very kind of you L, but I'm sure Misa has better things to do than keep me company while you guys talk."

"I doubt it."

Sakura risked a quick look at Misa, and found the girl practically shaking with rage, glaring daggers at the oblivious detective. Silently cursing L's ignorance towards female sensibility, Sakura let out a strained laugh.

"Now L, don't be rude. I'm fine being alone for a while, let Misa go."

"Actually," Misa interrupted, "Its fine. I'll love to have a nice girl chat with you Sakura." Her tone made Sakura want to cringe, as she forced a smile on her face which mirrored Misa's.

"Excellent." L answered, watching Light as he walked back into the room, calmer than before.

"Actually since Ryuzaki and I are going to be talking, why don't you girls go out onto the balcony? There's an amazing view from up here." Light added, smiling gently at both women.

Sakura hesitantly looked at Misa, who was still staring at Light and then at L who had perched himself on the couch, having lost interest in the conversation.

After a few seconds Misa finally tore her gaze from Light, turning to walk towards the balcony door, grabbing Sakura's hand and pulling her along. Sparing once last glance behind her, Sakura locked eyes with L who was watching them leave with the same unreadable expression.

"The view really is something else." Sakura comments, looking around at the buzzing city below them.

She hadn't been able to really explore the building, for L hadn't exactly given her permission to do so. Sakura smiles as a warm breeze tickles her face, she's glad that this opportunity had allowed her to discover this little balcony. It was charming, and she was able to watch the city lights and people go about their business. Next to her Misa only shrugged in response.

Since stepping out on the balcony she had been rather silent, not that Sakura was complaining. She rather have the girl be quiet, then angrily shouting accusations at her. Still all the silence was starting to unsettle her, and she was tempted to peek her head back inside to see if L and Light had finished their chat. The silence stretched on as Sakura ranked her mind for any topics of conversation.

"Have you ever been in love?" Misa finally asks, breaking the deafening silence.

Sakura's gaze lifts to Misa who is watching the night sky in an almost sorrowful daze. Her eyes, Sakura now notices are puffy as if she had been rubbing them. Her nose holds the slightest tint of pink, and her lips are cracked at the edges. She looks completely different from the glamourous girl who had appeared at Light's apartment, and Sakura mentally wonders if she really is the same person. Its not that Misa looks unappealing necessarily, but rather, the air around her feels different. There is no cheer or warmth around her, only a dreaded feeling of defeat. Tearing her gaze from the girl, Sakura chose to instead look up at the sky as well. A knot of disappointment forming in her gut, when she realizes that the stars were not quite as visible as she had hoped.

"I'm not sure." Sakura finally answers.

Misa stayed quiet for a moment, and then continues on, "At first it's great, all the dumb love songs start to make sense and you find yourself smiling, even when there's nothing to smile about. Problems fade away and your world becomes only you and that person." She chuckles a bit, shaking her head at a memory only she can see.

"Sounds lovely." Sakura replies.

"It is, until reality slaps you in face like a jealous bitch."

Sakura doesn't mean to laugh, but her comment was so casual that she can't help it. Misa she notices also begins to chuckle and soon they're both laughing.

"Well so far from what I've experienced, reality is quite a bitch." Sakura jokes after calming down. Misa still doesn't look at her and has now decided to stare down at the people walking on the streets beneath them.

"I just don't get it." Misa whispers after a moment, shaking her head, "If love is suppose to be such a beautiful feeling, then why does it hurt so much?"

Sakura can't bring herself to look at the girl, knowing that her face will show the same heartbreak reflected in her tone. Silently she thinks of a way to answer her. It's true that Sakura has no memory of ever being in love, but that doesn't necessarily mean she never was. Sighing she thinks again about the memories she can't remember and feels that she can relate to Misa's heartbreak.

"I understand how you feel."

"How can you?" Misa quickly hisses, her tone firmer than before. "You've never been in love, you don't know how it feels like to be willing to do anything for someone, even if that means having to be without them!"

Misa's eyes gleam with a burning anger, and tears begin to drip down her cheeks. Her fists are clenched at her sides as she finally faces Sakura, a look of infuriating resentment clear on her face.

"You don't know how it feels like to be labeled useless by someone who is your entire world!"

Sakura stares back at her struck speechless by her cold words. Yet pity for her forms inside of Sakura as she tries to find words to comfort the weeping girl in front of her.

"Misa" Sakura begins in a gentle tone, unsure why the girl's comment seems to resonate so deeply within her. "You're not useless."

Misa's frame tenses as she studies Sakura, not having expected those words. For a split second Sakura thinks she has gotten through to her, as the anger leaves Misa's face. However, a shadow crosses her expression and Misa lets out a dark chuckle, which morphs into crackling laugh. Shaking her head she reaches into the small purse which lays at her side.

"Of course not." She says, locking eyes with Sakura and offering her a twisted smile.

"Because I'm going to kill you."

The air freezes around them and time seems to stop as Misa pulls the gun from her purse. Sakura hears herself release a small gasp of air and the next instant an excruciating burning sensation overtake her body, the terrifying feeling of hot blood pours into her mouth, preventing air from reaching her lunges. Her vision blurs and Sakura feels her body fall, legs becoming numb from the shock. The last thing Sakura see is the starless night sky and red dripping down blonde hair.
