Haruka swiped his sweaty palms against his jeans for the tenth time. The words on the menu he was staring down at slowly ceased to make sense. ('Chicken steak.. Makoto, I-I mean! New York strip..')Holding his breath and trying to make the least noticeable movement possible, he strained his eyeballs up and in Makoto's direction. Who was sitting smack in front of him, for your information.

In the tiny sliver of vision Haruka allowed Makoto to be in, the olive-haired boy was looking to the side, watching something in the distance. Haruka's eyes couldn't help but trace his jawline, his fingers begging to run along it. As if he felt it, Makoto turned around to grin at the peeping Haruka. Embarrassed, Haruka shot his eyes straight down to the menu again. He felt his cheeks heating up, and used his hands to cover them, eyes still 90 degrees downwards staring at the menu.

The sight of Haruka desperately trying to hide his blush was incredibly adorable. Makoto simply wanted to grab ahold of the boy and hug him tight. Makoto fidgeted a bit, trying to ignore his mind which was screaming at him with thoughts of a warm, sleepy Haruka in his arms. He twitched.

Suddenly, there was a cheery melody from Makoto's pocket. Makoto reached into his pocket and drew his phone out, all while Haruka watched with a calm gaze.

"Hello? Yeah, mom," Makoto said, in a steady voice. "Mhm.. uhuh... huh?" Haruka felt his curiosity stir.

"Uh, mom, I'm kind of-" Makoto paused again. "O- okay okay. I'll be there as soon as I can. Bye."

Makoto put his phone down, and sighed. Haruka simply waited.

"Haruka.." Makoto began.

"It's okay if you have something you need to do for your mom, you know, Makoto," Haruka immediately said, in a soft, calm voice. "You can leave. No hard feelings." Haruka didn't need to smile to prove that he was sincere, because his voice was evident of that.

"I, uh, don't know," Makoto said, "I appreciate that you're so cool with it and all, but I actually wanted to ask you to come with me," he rubbed the back of his head shyly. Haruka raised an eyebrow.

"Well, what are we doing?"

"I have to send my little brother and sister to swimming school. I don't usually do it, but my parents are busy today, and they're too young to go on their own.."

"Ah," Haruka said, "Okay then. Let's go."

Without any confirmation from Makoto, Haruka simply stood up and headed for the door. Makoto, albeit startled, stood up quickly to follow him, and caught his foot in his chair, making him trip and stumble-walk noisily after the composed Haruka. The entire restaurant stared.

After getting out of the door, Haruka turned around to look at Makoto.

He chuckled.

Makoto felt his heart leap to his throat.

"Sorry we couldn't eat there, though, Haruka."

"That's alright. We can get something to eat later."

"What about the money Rin used to pay for the reservation? I heard it isn't cheap to book a place there, and we just wasted it."

"Well, that's his own problem. I never asked him to book anything."

Makoto and Haruka walked briskly along the winding pavement, passing by a temple, upwards to Makoto's house. They came to a part where the path split into two, where Haruka paused in his steps. Makoto followed suit, turning around to look at Haruka.

"What's wrong Haruka?"

"Nothing, it's just that," Haruka gestured to the path on the left. "This is the path to my house."

"Oh!" Makoto said, standing on the path to the right. "We live pretty close by, then." He smiled. Haruka's eyes twinkled back.

They continued walking for a bit, before having to climb a flight of stone steps. Halfway upwards, Makoto bent down to stroke a kitten sitting at the side of the step, which was customary for him. Haruka bent over as well, tickling the kitten by the chin. It mewed delightfully, before rubbing its soft little head against Haruka's hand. Makoto grinned uncontrollably.

"I do this every morning on the way to school," Makoto admitted, smiling sheepishly. Haruka hummed in acknowledgement.

"Does it have a name?" Haruka asked, stroking the kitten from head to tail, which the furball purred pleasingly to, flapping its tail against Haruka's wrist as it pressed its body against his gentle touch.

"I don't know what name to give it," Makoto said, spellbound watching Haruka pet the fat kitten, which had a thick coat of fur equally as white as Haruka's skin, Makoto noted.

"You should name it after something adorable, or something you like," Haruka began, quite seriously, "Like Fufu, or mackerel."

"Fufu? Mackerel?" Makoto laughed. After a second's consideration, he spoke up.

"Maybe I should name it.. Haruka," Makoto said, smiling. His face dropped instantaneously when Haruka immediately stood up straight, turned around, and paced briskly up the stairs. The kitten mewed in despair at the loss of contact, trying to clamber up the stairs to follow Haruka.

Oh no, did I say something wrong? I hope I didn't offend him..

Haruka reached the top of the stairs, while Makoto watched, confused. The ink-haired boy stopped, paused for a second, and turned around to look at him. Makoto caught sight of his tomato-red face and averting eyes.

"Are you coming or not?" Haruka said, huffily. Makoto grinned, and walked up the steps, two at a time. He was about to tease Haruka when a tiny miserable mew came into earshot. They saw the small kitten sitting at the highest step of the stairs, unable to reach them for the final step had been made higher than the rest. It's big blue eyes looked sadly at them.

Haruka reached down, and picked the fat kitten up by the stomach. He cradled it in his arms, feeling the warm ball of fur snuggle into his chest.

"Oh, we're taking Haruka with us?" Makoto grinned cheekily. Haruka immediately turned around and started walking away from Makoto, not wanting him to see his burning red cheeks and stupidly insuppressible smile.

"Haruka," Makoto laughed, "You're going the wrong way!"
