Hello again fellow readers and writers alike of . Ultimatehero here with the next chapter for kicking it in kanto. Previously, we joined Todd as he had finally arrived in Viridian city. He had found the Pokémon center with no trouble and had registered for the Pokémon league.
When he sought to fill his empty gullet with a little food, he found that the servings there were a bit on the short side. Nurse Joy told him that a couple of mysterious thieves clad in white armor have been stealing food and Pokémon alike all over Viridian. Though the city did it's best to find and stop these criminals, they could never pin them as they had the use of shadow Pokémon giving even the gym leader a tough challenge. After the warning given to him by Nurse Joy, he got a call from professor Oak. He informed Todd that his very grandson was the gym leader in Viridian.
When Todd went to check out the gym, he found that it was in progress of being robbed itself with a distraught Gary Oak rushing after the thieves on his charizard. Todd had gave chase as he had stolen the bike of a trainer named Kevin. Gary and his Pokémon did their best, but ultimately, they were defeated by dragonite's shadow rush courtesy of a cipher agent named Heather. In the midst of the battle, the bike was destroyed by a stray hyper beam much to the detest of It's owner. When he finally caught up to him, he demanded compensation immediately.
Todd obviously didn't have the money to pay for the bike, so Gary suggested that they settle it with a Pokémon battle. If Kevin won, then Todd would have to empty out any money he had on him to at least help pay for the repairs. But if Todd won, they would have to find another way to pay. The battle was held in Gary's gym. Kevin called out houndour while Todd relied on pidgey. In the end, pidgey won the battle thus saving Todd from having to pay immediately.
Kevin did not take the end result well. But it was at this moment that Gary decided to tell them that there was a bicycle shop located in Cerulean city. If they go there, they could probably find someone to fix his bike. Though the journey wasn't a simple afternoon's walk to the next town over. Kevin then said that Todd would be going with him and Nazz. From this point on, any money he earned from battles until they got to the Cerulean bike shop would go to repairs. Todd however agreed to the request seeing as it was his fault the bike got destroyed.
So the three leave Viridian making their way to Cerulean city. Now, we rejoin the extreme duo of wayside as they stop for a short rest on their way to Celadon. The journey continues today with...
Chapter 7:Mankey see, Mankey do!
We join the extreme duo as they're speeding along the dirt road on their way to Celadon.
"You saw Myron and Dana? How are they doing so far?" Asked Maurecia.
"Well, they haven't exactly gotten off the ground yet. Jenny replied. Besides not wanting to leave the first place he starts at, Myron doesn't seem to be doing well with his Bulbasaur, He thinks all he needs is constant attack. Hopefully he'll improve a bit later on." Speakin' of battles, how many of you gotten under your helmet sister mo?"
"Actually, since I've started, I've only had one battle and lost." Maurecia replied somberly.
"Ouch, sorry. Well, who was it?" Asked Jenny.
"Some guy named Zekro. We met in Cerulean. A while before our battle, he got the gym badge from the city's gym leader." Maurecia explained.
"Well no wonder. He must have had a good number of battles under his belt already. Said Jenny. Don't worry about it. With a little training, you're sure to beat him next time you see him. In fact, whaddaya say to a little practice right now? We still have a ways to go before we reach Celadon."
"All right. Sounds good to me!" Maurecia agreed.. As the two had came to a stop, they had sat their stuff down on a rock sitting under a tree nearby.
"Come on, Fluffy. If we're going to get stronger, we're going to need all the support we can get." Said Maurecia as she had removed her helmet letting her pet porcupine out into the open and sat it down with her stuff. But unbeknownst to the girls, three pairs of eyes had appeared in the tree above.
"You ready?" Jenny asked as she had took out Ziggy's poke ball.
"You bet!" Maurecia replied as she had taken out Todd jr.'s poke ball. Todd jr, come on out!" She shouted as she released her charmander.
"All right Ziggy, let 'em ride! Jenny shouted as she released her zigzagoon. We call first! Ziggy, use tackle attack! Jenny commanded as Ziggy had dashed off towards Todd jr. running in a zigzag pattern.
"Todd jr, stop it with ember!" Maurecia shouted. As commanded, Todd jr. had fired small flames at Ziggy causing STAB damage and halting its charge.
"Ember? We'll I'll be! Your charmander learned a new move. Looks like something good came out of that last battle. Said Jenny Impressed. But guess what? You aren't the only one! Ziggy, use fury swipes!" She shouted as Ziggy's front claws had begun glowing white and charged.
"Todd jr, dodge it!" Maurecia commanded. He tried to dodge it, but after the first scratch made contact, Ziggy unleashed a flurry of attacks badly damaging Todd jr. Though it still had enough energy to go on.
"What kind of attack as that?" Asked Maurecia.
"A mean one by the looks of it. Ziggy, use fury swipes again!" Jenny commanded. As the battle continued, three little shadows had emerged from the tree and proceeded to messing with the girls' stuff. Fluffy had noticed this almost immediately and proceeded to scare them off.
"Hey! Just what do you think you're doing?" Asked Fluffy in its own language.
"What do ya think we're doin? Messing with the human's stuff." Replied the first mankey as he was eyeing maurecia's helmet.
"Yeah. It's always hilarious to see how those idiots react when we steal their stuff. Said the mankey to the right. Why? You got a problem with it?"
"You bet I do! Put the stuff back now and I'll let you go with only a few scratches." Fluffy threatened. But this caused the three mankey to burst out in laughter.
"Yeah right. Like we're just gonna listen to you." Said the first mankey.
"Alright. Just remember, I warned you!" Said Fluffy as it had lunged at the mankey grasping his owner's helmet. Though almost instantly, it was sent flying courtesy of the mankey's brick break. It landed in between Todd jr. and Ziggy just as they were about to attack each other again.
"Fluffy?! What happened? Asked Maurecia. Fluffy had shook of the damage and had directed everyone's attention to the trio of mankey.
"Hey! That's my stuff! Give it back! Maurecia shouted as she had charged the head mankey in an attempt to reclaim her helmet. But the Pokémon was too quick and had leaped into the air making her crash into the rock. The mankey had laughed at her pain as it landed on her head. Maurecia tried to be sneaky and jump it when she had the chance, but the mankey had just leaped off her head and ran until it was on the dirt road a short distance away from the group. The other two mankey followed close behind.
"What are those things?" Asked Jenny. As she got up, Maurecia had found her pokedex on the ground amongst her and Jenny's scattered belongings.
"Mankey, the pig monkey Pokémon
When Mankey starts shaking and its nasal breathing turns rough, it's a sure sign that is becoming angry. However, because it goes into a towering rage almost instantly, it is impossible for anyone to flee its wrath.
"Angry? But these little guys look pretty calm. Despite the fact that they got into our stuff! Said Jenny.
"I don't care if they're the supposed to be the strongest Pokémon in kanto, I want my helmet back!" Shouted Maurecia. The mankey wearing her helmet had imitated her movement mocking her.
"A…are you mocking me?!" Shouted an annoyed Maurecia. The Mankey replied by taunting her trying to bait her into chasing after them. Soon, the trio of mankey had ran off and had went into the forest nearby, Hey! Get back here with my helmet!" Maurecia shouted as she had ran off after the mischievous Pokémon.
"Sister mo! Hold on a minute!" Jenny called to her as she as well as fluffy, Ziggy and Todd jr. followed her into the forest. Maurecia did her best to keep an eye on the mankey that had her helmet. Soon, the mankey had came to a stop checking to see if the humans were still after them. And sure enough, they were.
"Give me my helmet back you little jerk!' Maurecia shouted as loud as she could. In response, the mankey had took it off and held it in the air as if clarifying that it was hers.
"Yes, that's mine. May I have it back please? Asked Maurecia as she held out her hands. But the mankey just laughed and tossed it back onto its head. Maurecia wanted to attack it, but her charmander had not yet caught up to her. So instead, she looked around for something to hopefully knock the helmet off. She found a small rock a short distance away from her feet. She had picked it up, lunged her arm back, and tossed it with full force. Unfortunately, her aim was a tad off and she instead bonked the mankey right in between its eyes causing it to stumble back and fall out of the tree on its head. The helmet prevented some damage, but it still hurt.
"Oops. I was aiming for the helmet." Maurecia said as she had picked up her helmet next to the mankey. But while she was dusting off her helmet, the mankey that fell had recovered. Just as Maurecia was about to put her helmet back on, she heard a heavy breathing coming from behind her. When she turned around, she saw that the mankey had a bit of a mood swing. It no longer had the mischievous look it had when it made off with Maurecia's headgear.
It had red and black eyes and was breathing heavily as it became enraged.
What are you getting mad at me for? You're the one who went and stole my stuff. Not my fault if you got a little bump on the head." Said Maurecia trying to turn the buck onto the mankey.
"MAAAANKEEEEYY!" The pig monkey Pokémon shouted loudly. At that moment, the two mankey that were with it earlier had appeared bearing the same enraged expression that the first one had.
"H-hey. No fair. Its three against one." Maurecia said realizing the danger she was in right now as she begun to back away. Before they had a chance to attack, Maurecia had turned and dashed away with her helmet in her arms. The three mankey were chasing after her at an uncomfortable pace. Maurecia did her best to keep ahead of them until she had tripped over a tree root in the ground and had dropped her helmet. It had landed a short distance away from her. She attempted to reach for it, but the mankey had stepped in front of it blocking her from it. Maurecia decided that she would be back for it and chose to get up and continue running. She eventually met up with Jenny on her way out.
"Hey Maurecia, did you-?" Jenny tried to ask as Maurecia had zoomed right past her.
"Can't talk right now. Run!"Maurecia shouted just before she was out of earshot. Jenny didn't get why Maurecia was running until she turned to see the trio of mankey charging like angry bull. Jenny immediately got the message and made a U-turn along with their Pokémon. Eventually, they managed to outrun the angry mankey and took a breather at the same spot where they were having their practice battle.
"Whew, that was a close one." Said Jenny as she took a seat.
"Yeah, it was. But I have to go back there." Said Maurecia.
"You can't go back! Those little guys looked like they were ready to rip us to shreds!" Said Jenny.
"But I can't just leave the helmet back there! And I'm not leaving without it!" Replied Maurecia.
"Well then how exactly do you plan on getting it back? We can't exactly ta take them head on." Said Jenny. Maurecia pondered about what to do as she looked up to the tree that the mankey were hiding in. She then saw multiple apples were in the tree as well. At that moment, a lightbulb had went off in her head.
"I think I've got an idea." Maurecia replied. The screen transitions back to the three mankey sleeping in the trees after losing the humans they were chasing. The mankey wearing Maurecia's helmet had it slightly off its head. It was blowing a snot bubble as it was snoring until it was conked on the head with a well thrown pebble abruptly awakening it from its blissful slumber. The Pokémon quickly got up and searched around ready to beat the living daylights out of the unlucky soul to dare wake it up. But as it glanced towards the ground, its expression quickly changed as it saw a shiny juicy looking apple. Seeing as it's friends were not yet awake, it decided that it would get a little snack.
The mankey had jumped down from the tree, snatched the apple and sniffed it before taking a huge bite out of it. The apple was delicious. It wasn't long before the mankey had reduced the apple to nothing but core and tossed it. Before it begun to make its way back up the tree, it saw another apple just several feet away from the spot where it found the first. When it went to pick up that apple, the mankey found that several more apples were laid out in a trail leading somewhere.
Curious as to how the apples were just lying there in that way, it decided to follow the apple trail which begun to lead it away from its friends. Soon, the trail of apples stopped in the middle of the trail that the girls were traveling. It scratched its head wondering just what left the apples like that. But it would soon get its answer as it heard someone scream….."NOW! Tackle attack!" The Mankey only had seconds to see that the Zigzagoon from before had charged into it. The hit sent Mankey flying as well as Maurecia's helmet. But as it was flying through the air, a single photograph had slid out of one of the holes in the helmet and had landed softly on the ground next to the helmet.
"Got it! Nice one, Ziggy!" Shouted Jenny as she and Maurecia emerged from the bushes. When the Mankey recovered from the attack, it had got back up and snatched the helmet assuming the trap was meant as a means to reclaim it. It had proceded to taunt them after getting it, but Maurecia didn't seem to care.
"Good, its safe. Maurecia said as she had picked up the photo.
"What's safe?" Asked Jenny. Maurecia had showed her the picture which was a photograph of their class around the time when Todd first came to Wayside.
Oh, it's a picture of our class." Said Jenny.
"This picture is important to me. I might not remember much when I'm older, so I keep this picture in my helmet for safekeeping. This is much more important to me than my helmet. Said Maurecia as she held the picture close. But that doesn't mean I'm about to let some thieving Pokémon run away with it. She said as she glared at the mankey dancing around. Hey Mankey! She shouted getting its attention.
"I challenge you to a battle! If I win, I demand you give me my helmet back! But if you win, then you can keep it. The mankey's happy expression was gone and had turned into one of intensity. It seemed as though it accepted her challenge. Good. Todd jr, come on out!" Maurecia shouted as she had tossed out her charmander. Looking to end the fight seconds before it began, mankey had charged with a brick break at the ready.
"Todd jr, dodge it and hit it with tail whip!" She commanded. The fire-type had just barely dodged the attack and whipped its tail against mankey's back doing nothing but aggravating it. Now, use ember! On command, Todd jr, had fired small chunks of fire at the fighting type, But it had dodged it and hit with a scratch attack. Before Todd jr. had a chance to retaliate, it was socked in the gut with a brick break knocking him back to Maurecia.
"Todd jr! Are you okay? Maurcia asked concerned. Todd jr. had slowly gotten back up on its feet and responded with a 'Charmander!' The pokemon planted its feet as the mankey began to charge again. Stop that charge with ember! She commanded again. This time the attack hit as mankey was running into it. It came to abrupt stop afflicted by the burns from the attack. Don't let up! Hit 'em with your scratch attack! Maurecia shouted. Todd jr. had charged at the mankey with its claws glowing white and began to slash them across his face. Now, wrap it up with one last ember!
Todd jr. had reared his head back and let loose its strongest ember. After that last attack, mankey fell backwards with black swirls in its eyes letting her know that it had enough. Her helmet had rolled off its noggin after the last attack.
"Sister Mo, this is your chance! Catch the little guy while he's knocked out!" Jenny said realizing the opportunity.
"Oh, you're right! Maurecia said as she had taken out a poke ball from her pocket and pressed the button enlarging it to baseball size. Pokeball….GO! Maurecia shoute as she had tossed the ball at the mankey. It had hit it on the nose before opening up and converting the Pokémon into red energy before absorbing it and then closing. The ball landed on the ground and begun shaking as the button was flashing red.
Did I catch it?" Asked Maurecia.
"Professor Oak said there's always a chance for it to break out. Let's wait and see. Replied Jenny. The girls, their Pokémon and fluffy had gazed at the ball intensely waiting to see if mankey would break free. But, the tension disappeared as the light stopped flashing and a loud 'PING' sounded from the ball.
"All right, you did it! Cheered Jenny. You got your helmet back, and a new addition to your team! Maurecia had took the photo of her and her classmates and put it back in its rightful place in its helmet before strapping it back on. But…I wonder how those other mankey feel about their friend leaving them."
"Mankey mankey!" Called out the other two mankey from the apple tree nearby. The group turns to see the mankey waving good-bye with happy expressions on their faces.
"Huh? They're happy?" Asked a slightly confused Maurecia.
"Maybe their waving good-bye to their friend. In fact, I'd suspect that mankey wanted to be caught. But it's just a theory." The two mankey had then ran off headed back into the trees.
"I can't believe it. His plan worked." Said the first mankey.
"You think that trainer will take good care of him?" Asked the second mankey.
"You kidding? He knew brick break and she still beat him! Maybe he'll be able to evolve." The first mankey replied.
Come on. It looks like we'll have to finish that training battle when we get to Celadon. Said Jenny as she had put on her helmet and returned Ziggy to its poke ball.
"Right. Todd jr, return. Maurecia said as she returned her charmander to its poke ball for some well-earned rest. Let's go, Fluffy. She said as she had took off her helmet and held it in front of the porcupine for him to jump in. After which, she put it back on and climbed into the side car of Jenny's bike. The two then sped off towards Celadon city further down the road.
Well, that concludes chapter 7. Sorry for the late update. I've been in a perpetual state of boredom. I won't make promises that my updates will be frequent, but I will say that I've found my motivation to continue. Next time on kicking it in kanto, we join Myron and Dana as they finally set out from hophop town to find their first gym challenge in Vermillion City.
