"I'm slowly drifting into slumber
Cause I have lost the force to fight
It's like a cold hand on my shoulder
I'll see you on the other side"

Routine

Every day was a pattern for Elena. She'd wake up to this foreign house. Drink blood from the bags that mysteriously appeared in 'her room'. Roam around. She'd occasionally bump into Kol who was always out either running 'errands', or killing someone who surely didn't deserve it.

He was gone for now doing 'God knows what' to 'God knows who', and she was confined to this house for who knows how long. She started pacing…thinking…wondering- wondering if Klaus would actually find a way to save her.

Wondering if she'd be limited to this house- to this life forever. She imagined herself a hundred years from now laying in the bed across from her, staring at the ceiling, and praying that death's cold hands would welcome her.

"I-I can't!" She sighed loudly throwing her hands up in the air in defeat. They had been doing this for two hours now, and Bonnie was tired, frustrated, hungry and more. This was their last resort and each time she tried it wasn't making a difference. They've been trying different things for a week now, and if this didn't work then what would.

They were all in the Mikaelson mansion, which had become a meeting place of sorts, and Bonnie was repeatedly trying to find Elena with a locator spell.

"What do you mean you can't?" Damon questioned her, him too now frustrated.

"I mean what I meant ten tries ago. I can't locate her. It's like she fell off the grid or something."

"So you can't trace her?" Stefan asked. She was on her last nerve.

"It's not that I can't trace her. It's just that she can't be traced." She said balling and un-balling her fists repeatedly. She swore if one person questioned her ability one more time she would-

"Are you sure it's not just you?" It was Caroline asking this time.

"I'M POSITIVE!" She yelled through clenched teeth. Caroline threw up her hands in mock surrender.

"I'm sorry guys, but doing this 50 more times won't change the result."

"We need another witch." Stefan suggested.

"I told you she's untraceable." Bonnie shot him down instantly, irritated that everyone was judging her witchability (A/N: I made that up c: I couldn't help it.)

"Yeah, but maybe a more advanced witch could tell us why." He went on.

Bonnie opened her mouth to object, but instead just settled for a dulled 'maybe'.

"Okay well where are we going to find a witch?" Damon said from his seat.

"I know just the one." Klaus piped up smiling slightly.

"Of course you do." Damon muttered under his breath.

Elena was staring at the ceiling still thinking. Her brain was filled with questions and her mind was everywhere.

What were her friends doing?

Were they safe?

Was Klaus looking for her?

Did he have a plan?

How was Jeremy doing?

Did anyone even care?

'Of course they care you idiot." Her mind scoffed.

"Shut up." She yelled back.

"Talking to yours elf love?" She sat up to see Kol leaning against the doorway. Judging by the weird look he was giving her she must have said that out loud.

"No, I wasn't, and even if I was who else is there to talk to?" She countered, her voice surprisingly strong and steady.

He didn't reply. He was staring at her, studying her, testing her.

"What?" She said, the annoyance a surprise in her voice, but he just shrugged it off.

"How come you haven't run yet?"

"Run?" She asked taken aback. Now that took her by surprise.

"You know, tried to escape." He attempted to explain.

"I know what you mean. But why? Why would I run?"

"Well, you've been here for what, a week now? I would have thought you would have cracked. You don't seem as strong as your putting out."

"You don't know me. And even if I did 'try to run'" She started attempting to mock his accent, "You would just find me and kill me." He laughed.

"And you don't know me, therefore you don't know how strong I am." She added darkly surprising herself again. Since when was she so bold and-.

Stupid.

How could she not see he was toying with her? It was so obvious, and the small smirk on his face proved it. He was bored, and she was some source of entertainment. She was a puppet of amusement, and she didn't like it one bit.

But since she was here now, and had his attention- or at least part of it. Maybe it was time to get some answers. She didn't even have to wrack her brains to know to ask the one question that was bugging her the most.

"Why haven't you killed me yet?" This got his attention.

She had caught him off guard once again, but the look of shock that appeared on his face disappeared just as quickly. He had an amused smile on his face.

"Dearest Elena, where's the fun in that?"

"That's not an answer. You see you've had plenty of moments, plenty of opportunities to off me but you haven't- "

"Yet." He interrupted causing confusion to slide onto her face.

"I haven't killed you yet," He started taking a few steps closer. "You're right I could do it any time at any moment. Or maybe I won't kill you but you'll never know, now will you Elena? It's a little thing my father used to call 'fear of the unknown'."

He was now at least a foot away from her, and the discomfort from his close proximity made her shift uneasily.

"He was staring at her again, and he knew he was making her uncomfortable. It was written all over her face, so she tried her best to make it look like she was unbothered by it.

'Focus on anything else." She thought to herself.

"He smells good." That annoying voice in her head piped up out of nowhere betraying her.

Her mind was once again betraying her again, and it seemed like it was doing a lot if that lately.

"Go ahead and sniff." It spoke again much to her dismay.

'No!" She thought back. Was she seriously arguing with an unknown voice- in her head?

Of course she was, she felt like she was no longer in control of her emotions.

"You could use this to your advantage. You're supposed to be doing things unexpected. This is it." The voice was still trying to persuade her.

And despite her minds loud protests. She closed her eyes, leaned in and inhaled him. Nice and unintentionally long.

"You smell good." She breathed.

She didn't want to open her eyes now. She didn't want to see the look on his face. What the hell did she just do? She opened her eyes to his left eyebrow raised and a smirk on his face.

She felt her cheeks heat up.

Stupid.

How could she be so stupid? He was laughing now- laughing at her. And when he finally stopped her turn, and walked out of the room.

How could she have been such an idiot? She had meant to catch him off guard not inflate his ego.

"Dammit." She muttered. She walked over to the door, and closed it. She turned off the lights and plopped on 'her' bed in frustration. Next time, she would ignore that stupid voice and listen to her brain.

What was going on with her lately? She would never do something this stupid. Especially around a Mikaelson. She was weak, and now she knew for sure he was going to use this against her sooner or later.
