TMIFan16: Sorry for the wait!

Clary gasped at Jace half kneeling on the ground. He looked unsure and determined.

He gripped her hands tighter, she felt his skin begin to heat up and glow. He quickly released her before he could hurt her.

He then reached into one of his pockets and took out something. It was a ring.

Clary stared at the sparkling piece of jewelry, unsure on whether to speak or not.

The ring had a gold band and was plain, apart from the green jewel embedded into it. Clary tore her gaze from the ring, to Jace's molten gold eyes.

"Clarissa Fray. I've been planning this for days, but now seem's better than never." A hint of a smirk flashed on his face, but it didn't break through. "We have faced many, many" a slight frown appeared on his face. "-Many obstacles, but we always overcame them. I-"

"Jace, please stop." Clary felt more tears fell down her face. She couldn't listen to another word he said. It would hurt so much more when she left.

"-Love you with every fiber of my being." Jace continued on as though she never spoke. "I will never find anything to compare my love for you." His skin began to have a tint of a glow. "Will you marry me?"

Clary stared at him. Every fiber of her being screaming at her to say yes. To wrap her arms around him and stay with him, ignoring the fact that in two weeks, she possibly won't remember this moment.

If she said yes, it would just be cruel to Jace and herself. She couldn't say no and leave. He would be heartbroken and angry. He didn't handle those two emotions well…

Clary sighed as she kneeled down in front of Jace and took hold of his wrists. He looked confused.

"Jace…I love you…more than what could be possible." Her vision was becoming blurry with her tears. "I would love to marry you," A genuine smile broke across his face, he moved to embrace her. "But right now, there's something I have to do." Jace's expression fell, his joy replaced by hurt.

"I'll go with you. I can-"

"I don't want to go, Jace. I want to stay here, with you! I want to be excited about our future and worried about normal things! I want to plan our wedding, listening to Izzy and Magnus complain about everything they hate and Alec trying to keep the peace." Clary took a breath but continued before Jace could interrupt her. "I want to wake up with you beside me and fall asleep in your arms. I want to stay here more than you know. But can't!"

Jace stared at her, dumbfounded. He didn't look capable of even speaking.

Clary decided that she needed to leave now before she lost any resolve. She grabbed her duffel bag that she didn't remember dropping and headed towards the door. She was just opening it when something gripped her arm, spun her around and cupped her face between two extremely heated hands.

She was staring Jace's golden eyes. She was shocked by the sight of his normal bright and determined eyes, filling with tears.

Before she could speak, Jace's lips crashed over hers. She tasted tears on his lips. She didn't know if they were hers or had his escaped his eyes.

She knew she shouldn't have, but she kissed him back with the same desperation that Jace was kissing her. She didn't care about the pain that was shooting from her lips as Jace's skin became a fire. She ignored the pain, as difficult as it was, just to savor the moment.

She didn't know when - or if - she would see him again. She needed this last moment to be a good memory…or as good as it could be.

Jace broke the kiss, staring guiltily at her swollen and burnt lips and burnt handprints on her cheeks. But they turned to amazement as Clary felt her skin tingle. She knew they were healing themselves.

"Clary…don't go." Jace pleaded. His eyes begging her to stay.

Clary stepped past him to the ring that was lying on the floor from where Jace had dropped it. She walked back to him and grabbed his now cool hand and curled his fingers around the beautiful ring.

"I was serious when I said I would marry you." Why couldn't she stop crying! Clary angrily thought to herself. "I will do everything in my power to come back to you. I will send word that I'm okay as well. Just trust me that I will come back." Clary released his hand and stepped towards the door, keeping her eyes locked on Jace.

"What if you don't come back? What am I suppose to do then?" Clary felt her heart-break at the sight of tears falling sparsely down his cheeks. His eyes still pleading with her.

"You'll move on and do what you've always done." Clary gave him a small smile. "You will keep fighting demons and protecting your family. You're going to get over me and someone more…compatible than me." Clary winced at the last part.

"Clary, I will never meet someone I want, no, need more than I need you." Jace stepped closer to her. "Please don't let this be the last memory I have of you!" His whole expression was heartbroken.

"Clary forced a smile onto her face and whispered "Close your eyes."

She waited till Jace's confused eyes were shut before she turned and sprinted out the door as silent as possible.

Once outside, she ran to an alley on the same side of the street as the institute and looked around the edge just as Jace ran into sight.

She saw him look down both sides of the street, searching for her. She felt so much guilt when he called out her name. She resisted jumping out of the alley and running up to him. She waited till he returned to the institute before taking out her stele and drawing a rune for a portal.
