"We are badly messing up the time line Blaise. I mean in the story Crowley never came over with Halt and explained to the group what was going on. What if we mess things up to badly? What if we get one of them killed because of our careless actions? What if-" Charlotte was cut off by Blaise.
"Calm down. We are here now and it's to late to change anything now. We will just have to go with the flow and see what happens, okay? And besides, the time line has already been messed up. There are THREE Kalkara for goodness sake! So we just let the chips fall where they may and see what happens. And no matter what you do, DO NOT LET THEM KNOW THAT WE ARE NOT FROM THIS STORY OR TIME PERIOD OR WHATEVER YOU WANT TO CALL THIS PLACE! THEY WOULDN'T BELIEVE US ANYWAYS SO THERE IS NO POINT! OKAY?" Blaise told Charlotte fiercely. Charlotte nodded in agreement, eyes wide. Blaise hardly ever spoke to her fiercely and when she did Charlotte listened and did what she said.
"What are you two talking about now?" Gilan asked as they watched all the tents go down and the rangers leaving. "None of your business." Blaise snapped coldly.
Gilan and Blaise glared at each other before Gilan looked away and went back to setting up his tent.
Gilan kept looking over at the sisters and had a look on his face like he was trying to figure them out. "What?" Blaise suddenly snarled, getting fed up with the looks he was giving them. Gilan blinked, he thought that he had not been noticed in his watching of the sisters. "You pick up languages fairly easily, do you not?" Gilan asked. "Yes." Blaise replied cautiously, while still glaring at him. Charlotte had stopped playing with Baises' hair as she watched the conversation take place between the two deadly people.
"So, if you pick up languages easily, why would you not become a Diplomat for foreign countries-" Gilan was cut off by something so unexpected that both Halt and Will paused and stared at in shock and Charlotte to smile happily. Blaise had burst out laughing, she was laughing so hard that she was clutching her sides and had tears running down her face. The Ranger's were shocked because that was the first emotion they had seen from Blaise. Charlotte was happy because that meant that Blaise trusted these three, even if it was only a little bit.
It took Blaise a good five minutes to calm down again because every time she had stopped she had looked at Charlotte and had started laughing again. Blaise closed her eyes and took a deep breath, getting her composure back. When she opened her eyes again, her eyes were expressionless once more. The ranger's all blinked, all at least a little surprised that she could cut off her emotions so easily. "When you look at Charlotte, do you she someone who could hold their own or someone who would easily give in?" Blaise asked.
Gilan looked Charlotte over, making her blush and Blaise narrowed her eyes in a protective fueled anger, before answering. "I see someone who would try to hold her own but would end up getting overwhelmed and give in." Gilan admitted. "Yep! That would be me! I know I give in way to easily." Charlotte said cheerfully and smiled at Gilan. Blaise rolled her eyes at Charlotte's always cheerful personality before continuing her explanation. "And when you look at me do you she someone who would have the ability to calmly negotiate without breaking something or someone?" She asked.
This time it was Blaise who was 'inspected' by Gilan. "No, you look like someone who would end up beating up the other diplomatic because they disagreed with you." He said. Will and Halt were nodding in agreement from beside their own tents. "That's my sister to a tee! She did that to the boys who made fun of me. She got into soooo much trouble for it to." Charlotte told them giggling. "What? No one makes fun or hurts my sister and gets away with it." Blaise growled defensively at the looks she was receiving. Gilan held his hands up as Will and Halt went back to finishing their tents.
"I meant nothing by it. It's good to be protective of your family." Gilan tried to sooth. Blaise just huffed and settled back down. Will and Halt came over and sat on some logs and they stayed that way for a while, the tree ranger's drinking coffee, Halt and Gilan talking quietly while Will asked the occasional question about the sisters while Charlotte was fighting a losing battle with Blaises' hair.
Blaise had been leaning back and had her eyes closed while Charlotte was doing something to her hair, when she heard a noise from in the forest that went against the natural sounds. Blaise opened one eye and turned her head to the sound as Halt looked up as well, he had heard the noise to. Will and Gilan looked up when they had seen Blaise and Halt act as one almost as they both looked to the forest at the same time. The two of them then heard the noise from the forest. The three ranger's all placed their hands on their knives while Blaise tensed and prepared to grab Charlotte and climb the tree that was behind them. Charlotte was oblivious to this and continued to play with her sisters hair. The noise got louder and suddenly Midnight tumbled into the clearing, proudly carrying a dead mouse in her jaws, which she dropped at Blaises' feet before climbing into her lap.
"Good kitty! You will be an amazing hunter when you're full grown." Blaise praised Midnight. "Isn't she fully grown? I mean she looks like a large house cat." Will asked. Blaise looked at him oddly, before remembering that they probably didn't know what a Jaguar was. "Nope. Midnight is only three months old. She's going to be a really big kitty when she's full grown." Blaise informed Will, and held back a snort at his shocked look.
"You're right, Midnight is going to be a big kitty." Halt said, holding his hand out to Midnight to see if she would go to him to be petted. Midnight walked up to him and sniffed his hand, and rubbed her head against his hand and let out a loud purr. Halt raised his eyebrow at the loudness of it, not expecting it from such a small animal.
"BRB I need to go number one." Charlotte said and walked away. "Follow Spirit." Blaise called to the horse, who tossed his mane and trotted after his new mistress.
"What does that mean?" Asked a bewildered Gilan. Blaise rolled her eyes. "B-R-B." Blaise said clearly, when that was met with more blank looks, Blaise remembered that these abbreviations more then likely hadn't been invented yet. "B-R-B means Be Right Back. It takes the first letters of a saying and uses them to make an abbreviation. Like G2G. Got To Go. G2G uses the first letter from got, then the number 2, then the first letter of go. It makes it easier to pass notes in class without teachers finding out what you're writing to you're friends. Think of it like a sort of code. Only this code was made up by teenaged girls with to much time on their hands." Blaise informed them, and mentally shook her head at the looks of surprise she was receiving. Blaise had just opened her mouth to explain more when a scream echoed through the clearing.
Blaise was instantly on her feet in a defensive position while the three ranger's were on theirs with Will and Gilan having their knives out while Halt had drawn his bow. Charlotte had walked back into their campsite and freaked out at the sight of a dead mouse at Blaises' feet. "What's wrong? Did someone hurt you? Are they still here? I'll kill 'em! Where are they?" Blaise asked a bunch of rapid questions as she move to stand in front of Charlotte and started looking her over for injuries. "T-t-t-ther-theres a-a m-m-mouse!" Charlotte whimpered and cowered behind Blaise, which would have been funny seeing as a she was trying to hide behind someone who was at least six inches shorter then she was, if it hadn't been how frightened Charlotte was. The ranger's all relaxed again and put away the weapons they had drawn while Blaise calmed Charlotte back down and explained that the mouse was dead and Midnight had brought it to them. Meanwhile, because Blaise had interrupted her nap, Midnight went over to the mouse and ate it. "Eww." Charlotte scrunched up her nose in dislike and turned away. Spirit trotted over to Moonlight and the other horses and the group of horses seemed to talk to each other. Halt and Blaise shook their heads at their horses randomness.
Blaise shook her head as Charlotte then decided that she personally had to make sure they were all properly fed and started to try to make dinner, only for Blaise to take over and gently push her away from the fire. Charlotte pouted but moved away from the fire. Blaise kept her emotionless mask on, making her sister sad that Blaise still felt like she counldn't trust anyone. Gilan frowned. *Why does Charlotte let Shadow boss her around? I mean Charlotte can make her own choices without Shadow deciding for her.* With that thought in mind, Gilan got up and moved over to sit beside Charlotte. "Why do you let Shadow boss you around? I mean you can make your own choices without Shadow deciding for you."
Charlotte smiled softly, she could easily see how he could think that she was being bossed around. Charlotte knew more then what people thought she did, though she knew that there was even more that she didn't. She had had a very sheltered life, before and after her parents had died. Because of this, Blaise kept her away from harmful things and Charlotte knew and trusted her sister to always make choices that would keep her safe, though Charlotte had to make sure that the choices would keep Blaise safe as well. Charlotte was the healer, the one to be protected, while Blaise was the Warrior, the one to protect. "She doesn't boss me around. Not really. Sure, she decides what to do, what I should do, but that is only because I have been so sheltered in my life so far. I wouldn't have any idea for how to protect myself. As Blaise puts it, she is the one to protect, while I patch her up afterwards. I'm very happy with that. Because, for one, I am still helping. If it hadn't been for my quick thinking, Blaise would have been dead many times over. And for two, I'm able to help others as well. I've saved a child's life you know. So to you it may look like I have no say, but really, if I wanted to do something I could. I do not have to ask permission. But Blaise understands the world in ways I do not so I listen to her. Like right now, for example. I have no idea how to cook (or cook at all) over a fire and probably would have gotten myself burnt, Blaise does know so she shooed me away. I also have no wish to learn the things that she does, and if I ever did want to learn Blaise would drop everything to teach me. My greatest wish in life is the be an amazing mother to my children while my husband is someone who could and would protect his family with everything he had. While Blaises' greatest wish is for someone to love her for who she really is, and not try and change her into something else. Ever since our mom and dad died Blaise has withdrawn into herself even more. I wish for her to find the person who will bring my prank-loving, joking, and happy sister back. She has all but stopped smiling since two days before her blood parents died, no one knows why but she had run away and was never going back to her old house at that time too." Charlotte explained softly. Gilan eyes had gone wide in surprise at the explanation, Will was even more surprised at the information then Gilan was, and Halt had a horrible thought in his head that he was desperately hoping was wrong.
Blaise had made dinner for everyone, and had been the only one to not hear what Charlotte had said. Blaise dished some food up for Charlotte and herself before standing and walking over the the group who had all migrated over to where the sisters had been sitting. Blaise ignored the looks she was getting because she was well use to people giving her strange looks, and handed Charlotte her food before plopping down in front of her and sitting on her ankles. Blaise raised an eyebrow at the looks she was getting. "You can get your own damn food, you lazy orcs!" Blaise growled, and got whacked on the back of the head by Charlotte. "Language! And don't call them orcs!" Charlotte chided. Blaise rolled her eyes. "Oh please. They don't even know what orcs are for Hades sake. How can they be offended by me calling them that then?" Blaise asked rhetorically, and Charlotte huffed while the ranger's realized that Charlotte was right, other then two or three times, since they had met Blaise had not smile or laughed properly.
"Who's Hades?" Will asked. "God of the dead in Greek mythology." Blaise answered absentmindedly, though still coldly. "What's Greek?" Will again asked.
Blaise froze for a moment before answering coldly. "A group of people Charlotte and I learned about. Greek is one of the languages we know." Her tone made it clear that that was all she had to say on the subject. Will nodded and went back to his food.
Charlotte started to go around the group a few minutes later and kept trying to make them all eat more by putting more food on their plates. Halt and Blaise ended up being the only ones not to eat more, as Halt said thank you but he was no longer hungry and when she tried to push he said that he didn't eat a lot to begin with, and Blaise because she couldn't eat anymore or she would throw up. Gilan and Will ate the rest though they looked like they would not be eating again any time soon.
Blaise was silently cackling at them in her head because she had been in their places on to many times, though her face showed none of her amusement.
Night was starting to fall by the time Charlotte sat back down beside Blaise at 'their spot' and shivered. The night before she had been to worried about where they were to notice how cold it was, but tonight she felt completely safe and noticed just how cold it was. "I'm cold!" Charlotte announced with a shiver. "You're always cold." Blaise said with an eye roll, even as she gave Charlotte the extra shirt, which Charlotte put on and wrapped her arms around herself, still shivering. Gilan frowned and got up. He took off his cloak and offered it to Charlotte. "I have this or a blanket that you can use to get warm." Charlotte took the cloak with a bright smile and put it on.
"Don't you need it though?" She asked even as she snuggled into the warmth. "I don't need it right now and we can look for something better for tomorrow." Gilan returned her smile then returned to his seat. Looking up from where he had looked down as he sat down, Gilan saw Blaise glaring at him. Her glare seemed to say 'you hurt her, I kill you' Gilan nodded his head once, saying that he understood. Blaise glared harder for a minute before switching back to her normal emotionless expression. Gilan correctly interpreted the look to mean that it wasn't over, and he had a feeling that if he ended up in a relationship with Charlotte that he would be put to many tests before Blaise would decide if he was good enough for her sister or not.
Halt was the only one to notice the byplay and knew that the coming years would be interesting, to say the least. (Little did he know...) Halt was also the only one to notice how Blaise kept suppressing her own shivers. *It makes sense. Shadow is wearing a lot less clothes then Charlotte is. Charlotte has on a long sleeved outfit that goes past her wrists and past and encases her feet as well, and is made from a soft fabric that lookes to be very warm and is all one piece. While Shadow has on a pair of shorts that, er, barely come two inches from her hip joint, and a skin tight shirt that only covered half of her middle. The strap on her left shoulder also appears to be hiding something, a tattoo maybe? And there are two more straps that I have no idea what they do. I wonder if she would talk to me? Gilan I can understand because he is interested in her sister and Will is still very young.* Halt was lost in his thoughts but he still kept his usual level of awareness regardless of what was going on in his mind.
Blaise brushed Charlotte's hands off of her hair and stood up. Knowing that all eyes were on her, Blaise silently walked over to Moonlight. "You'll watch Charlie for me right? And you'll warn me if one of these idiots tries to hurt her? You're such a good horse, Moonlight." Blaise whispered the last part to Moonlight, while she had said the first part at normal volume to make sure that she was overheard.
"BLAISE! THEY ARE NOT GOING TO TRY AND DO ANYTHING TO ME! WHY DO YOU ALWAYS THINK THE WORST ABOUT EVERYONE?!" Charlotte demanded. Blaise just scoffed and started to walk off. "WHERE ARE YOU GOING?!" Charlotte yelled at her back, and started to stand up.
"Number one, are you coming to help?" Blaise called over her shoulder, not stopping walking away. Charlotte blushed a bright red and sat back down, her former anger gone. Blaise rolled her eyes and disappeared into the forest.
The four of them sat in silence for a moment before Will spoke up. "What did she mean when she said number one?" He asked, ever curious. Charlotte burst into a fit of giggles. "When someone says that they have to go number one it's a nice way of saying that they have to pee. Number two is a nicer way of saying that they have to poop." Charlotte giggled. Will and Gilan choked on their coffee while Halt raised both eyebrows.
"I think you broke them." Blaise said as she dropped from the tree and landed in front of Charlotte, who was still giggling. Will and Gilan were sitting down staring at Charlotte in sock. Blaises' sudden arrival seemed to snap them out of it and they both went slightly red at having been shocked enough not to hear Blaises' approach.
Blaise sat down and stared at the cloak laying beside her 'spot' and raised an eyebrow at Halt in a silent question, having noticed that he no longer had on a cloak and that Charlotte still had Gilans' on. Halt dipped his head so slightly in her direction that had she not been looking for some sort of sign the she would have missed it. Blaise closed her eyes and bent her head slightly in his direction, and they both went back to watching the others and the rest of the grounds.
Blaise pulled on the cloak and had to stifle a moan as she felt warmth from the cloak start to seep back into her skin, she hadn't realized how cold she had been until now.
"I do believe it is time for bed, flame." Blaise stated as she watched the sun completely disappear behind the tree line, encasing them all in shadows. "Why did you call Charlotte flame?" Gilan asked curiously. In answer, Blaise simply pointed at Charlotte, who's hair had caught the very last rays of sunlight, making it look like her hair was a flame.
"That's why." Blaise said calmly. Halt's eye twitched. It was rather amusing to see how Blaise either calmly, coldly, snarled, or growled as she spoke. Halt could tell that it was annoying Gilan but it really it only amused Halt himself to no end to see how some one so tiny could be so much of a fighter.
"She also looks like she has carrot coloured hair when the sun hits her hair for real." Blaise added calmly. Gilan smiled suddenly. "If your hair really does look like that in the sun I think that your new nickname will have to be carrots." Gilan told her with a smile.
"OK!" Charlotte agreed happily. Blaise looked up to the sky, asking the sky why her sister was always so cheerful.
"Did you want a tent to sleep in? Because our tents can fit two people and I could-" Gilan was cut off by surprisingly Charlotte of all people. "No thank you Gilan, but thank you for the offer. One, it is not going to rain tonight so there is no real reason for tents, two I like sleeping in the open when I have to sleep outside, and three, Blaise would never be able to sleep in a tent. Because even though everyone here knows that you three would never hurt us, Blaise is paranoid." Charlotte explained softly. She then curled up with Midnight in a ball against the tree and fell asleep.
"It's true." Blaise agreed coldly with a shrug. She then stretched out in front of Charlotte, her head on a raised tree root for a pillow, and her feet on a different tree root, making a little spot in the middle where Charlotte slept.
To the Ranger's it looked like Blaise had fallen right to sleep while really Blaise only pretended to sleep.
"Gilan I want you to take first watch. Will second and I will take the third and final watch." Halt told the other two. Both Gilan and Will were confused, because normally Halt always took first watch, but then they realized that it was probably because he wanted to talk to Shadow, who they had learned slept little so him taking the last watch would give Halt a greater chance to talk to her.
Blaise watched through slitted eyes as the Ranger's got ready and Halt and Will entered their respective tents. Halt's and Gilan's tents were the farthest away while Will's was fairly close to the sisters spot. Gilan settled down on a log and built up the fire so it was burning nicely. Blaise let her eyes drift shut as she drifted off into a light sleep.
Blaise woke up out of her dose when she heard Gilan start to move. Through slitted eyes, Blaise watched Gilan enter Will's tent and she heard them quietly speak for a few moments before they both exited the tent. Gilan crawled into his tent while Will sat down on the log where Gilan had been sitting. Will rubbed his eyes and yawned slightly. Blaise was now awake. She stretched to her full height and sighed contentedly when she felt/heard things pop in her body.
Blaise silently stood up and padded on silent feet to the log that Will was sitting on. Blaise put her hand on Will's shoulder. "Ssssshhh." Blaise calmly shushed when he started violently. Will nodded and took a deep breath.
"You need to make some sort of noise when walking up to Ranger's who are on watch. If you had of snuck up on Halt he probably would have stabbed you." Will told her quietly. Blaise smirked. "OK. I will try to. But I have always been extremely quiet on my feet. Now I am going to do my exercises." Blaise said equally softly.
Will watched intrigued as Blaise took off the cloak and climbed the tree. Blaise found two tree branches that were close together and sat so each leg was over each one of the branches and she let her body drop so that she was hanging upside down from the tree. Blaise gave Will a smirk before she started to do sit ups. She spent around an hour doing various exercises, including push-ups and climbing up and down the tree as fast as she could while making as little noise as possible.
Blaise sat down beside Will breathing hard. She had sweat running down her face but looked satisfied at what she had done. Will watched as she got up and did a few cool down exercises before disapearing into the forest. Blaise came back with a thick tree branch that was about as long as a sword, but looked to be heavier then a sword.
Blaise swung the 'sword' around her experimentally before deciding that the tree branch was good enough. Blaise then gripped the tree branch and in her minds eye, imagined that there were enemy's surrounding her. By doing that, Blaise was able to 'fight' off the enemy's surrounding her. She ducked, dodged, weaved, slashed, blocked, and stabbed her enemy's and fought them off. In her mind, Blaise had just blocked a sword swipe that was aiming for her head when a hand on her shoulder made her pivot on her foot and rest the 'sword' against Will neck.
"You shouldn't sneak up on a girl when she's practicing her sword fighting skills. Otherwise you might get stabbed." Blaise whispered to him with a smirk. Will was giving her a look that was contemplative and, as she stared into his eyes, hopeful.
"Can you teach me how to use a sword? Please Shadow?" Will quietly begged. Blaise was bewildered for a moment before remembering Will had wanted to be a Knight barely seven months before now. They also had been sent to the time before when Will personally had decided to stay as an Ranger's apprentice. Will probably had not asked Gilan because of everything that had happened since the two had met.
"If you want I can teach you what I know. But I have never been taught the proper way of handling a sword so most of what I know is based on what I've seen and can imitate, as well as a lot of kicks and underhanded moves that are probably never taught. I do not fight in a proper way because it is easier for me to fight my way then let someone else make up the rules. I fight until my opponents can't fight back, if they don't make it, that's their fault for attacking me in the first place." Blaise calmly explained.
"What about honor?" Will asks curiously, his head tilted to one side.
"I agree with honor, that is why I do not start the fights. If I am fighting someone and they surrender, I will stop attacking them. But at the same time, if someone is attacking me to kill me, I won't hesitate to put them out of the fight so they can go and be dealt with by the proper people. All I meant by my earlier statement was that don't rule anything in a fight out as irrelevant, if you can take you opponent out using proper methods then do so. But if you can take them out with a well placed kick then also do so and don't hold back, because if you hesitate for even a second, you could be the one out of them fight. And depending on your opposition, you could be out of the fight for good." Blaise told him coldly.
'Will you still teach me please? I like being a Ranger but I still want to know how to use a sword, in honor of my Dad. I never knew him and he died in battle." Will pleaded with Blaise.
"I will teach you what I can. But for the most part you will be using your on instincts. First off, I have some rules. One, you will listen to me about this training. Two, no one can know about this training because they might try to stop it. And three, you will NEVER use what I teach you for vengeance. Give me a little bit to go and find a suitable branch for you to use." Blaise told him as she was walking away.
Will sat back down on the log and waited for Blaise to come back. +I wonder what I will be learning from her? I hope I do well. I wonder-+ Will's thoughts were suddenly cut off when a hand wrapped around his neck, and he froze. "First rule of fighting, never let your guard down. Because if you do, you're going to be dead." Blaise growled in his ear. Will nodded and she let him go.
"Here, try and copy what I do. And I will try to go slowly so that you can copy." Blaise whispered, handing him a tree branch like hers. The others were still sleeping, even Gilan and Halt, who were light sleepers. Blaise was making sure that they were asleep for as long as she could get them to be.
Blaise started with some standard slashes with the 'sword' while Will did his best to copy her. Seeing how fast Will was picking up the moves she was demonstrating, Blaise started to insert high, low, and sweeping kicks into what she was doing. Will was following her well.
They continued like that for a while, every so often Blaise would stop and show Will a better and easier way to do a kick, and then make him do said kick a few times over before she was satisfied that he was doing them properly again. Blaise stopped them when Will's night watch was almost over. Will sat down panting and covered in sweat.
Blaise sat down beside Will, also covered in sweat but not panting as hard as he was. "Will it always be this tiring?" Will panted. "Yes, but you'll get use to it within the next few days if we do this every night." Blaise answered, her breathing already back to normal. Blaise stood up and padded over to Will's bag that was on the ground and pulled out a spare cloth. "Here, use this to clean yourself up with. You have to wake Halt up for his watch soon too. Then you can go back to sleep." Blaise informed Will as she picked the two 'swords' up and walked back into the forest. Coming back to the campsite a minute later saw Blaise without them, she had put them back into the forest so really no one would know about their training.
Blaise had just sat down after putting back on Halt's cloak when Will ducked into his tent to wake him up for his watch. Blaise sat with her knees drawn up to her chest with her arms wrapped around them and was resting her head on her knees with her eyes closed when she felt someone come up beside her and sit down. Looking through a slitted eye so the one beside her might think that she was sleep, she saw it was Halt so she opened her eye completely. "Thanks for the cloak." Blaise thanked him. Halt nodded. "You needed it more then I did." Halt said simply. They fell silent after that.
Blaises' eyes shot open, wild with panic left from her nightmare. Someone was touching her so she grabbed her attackers hand and, with panic and adrenaline giving her strength, she rolled over and pinned the attacked to the ground. Dark green eyes that were calm and steady stared back at her. Blaise took in the man's shaggy, uneven hair, bushy beard, both of which were brown-grey. Blaise thought that she had seen the man somewhere before so did not attack him further while trying to remember. Blaises' eyes went wide in surprise as she remembered where she had seen him before, it was Halt the Ranger, and she and Charlotte had been put into the story.
Blaise rolled off of Halt and pulled her knees up to her chest. Seeing that her hands and arms were shaking, Blaise wrapped them around herself hoping that the trembling would go away, not knowing that he whole body was trembling. Blaise squeezed her eyes shut and rocked back and forth slightly. *Get a grip you stupid girl. You have to be strong for Charlotte. If she sees or hears you having a break down then so will she. She will also give up because you are her rock. You are what keeps her from being turned into something that she is not. And these men have to see you as being strong and unforgiving because if they don't then they might try and hurt Charlotte. You have to suppress the memories. You've done it before so do it again.* Blaise berated herself while gasping for breath and still trembling.
"Stop." Halt's commanding voice rang out quietly. Blaise flinched at the voice before berating herself for flinching. But before Blaise could yell at herself to much mentally, Halt started speaking again. "You can't suppress the memories. If you do you are not only hurting yourself but you are also hurting Charlotte. She wants her sister back Shadow, and by suppressing the memories you are not giving her that, you are giving her a shadow of your former self. Is that why you call yourself Shadow? Because you a able to hide yourself in the shadows and not care about those around you? You need to talk to someone about the memories, even if it's just an animal until you're prepared to talk to a human. I've seen people suppress their memories before and it never turned out well. You-" Whatever Halt was about to say was cut off by Blaise.
"You think I don't know that I'm hurting Charlotte?! You think that I like being this way?! I don't! I wish that I could talk to someone about what my family," Here Blaise spit the word family as if it was the most poisonous word in the world. "Has treated me over the years! But I can't! I tried when I was about five. I told my teacher what was going on with my brothers picking on and beating me up whenever they could and how my parents ignored me but they didn't listen!" Blaise shrieked softly, thinking about that because her father was one of the top policemen in the city they thought that he would never let his youngest daughter get hurt so no one ever listened to her other then her mother who adopted her when her biological parents died. "I gave up trying after that. I wish I had tried harder now though. Maybe if I had I would have been taken away before he tired to-" Blaise cut herself off here, horrified about what she had almost revealed. She had told no one what had almost happened to her and she had planned to keep it that way. Normally, Blaise wouldn't have even told Halt that much but everything had caught up with her at once and she blew up at the first person who had tried to pressure her.
"Blaise, did one of your brothers try and rape you?" Halt asked Blaise gently, softly. Halt had his true emotions buried under a mask while he slowly walked up to Blaise like she was a wild animal he didn't want to spook. Blaise hadn't even realized she had stood up and had her arms wrapped around herself like she was protecting herself. Blaise sat back down cross-legged on the ground with her shoulders hunched and her arms wrapped around herself.
"No. It wasn't my brothers who tried to. It was my own father. It happened when I was, thirteen. It didn't work. I fought him off, he didn't expect me to be such a fighter when I was so young. I ran away to Charlotte's the next day." Blaise said, almost lost in her memories. She had almost told Halt her real age when the attack had happened. She had been attacked when she was fifteen and the next day when she had been forced into the car by her family they got hit by another car. Blaise had ended up in a coma for four months and got a scar that looked like four claw marks going from one hip to the other hip. She had been the only survivor and been adopted by Charlotte's parents while unconscious. A week after she had got to go home Charlotte had been attacked. Blaise had saved her.
"Do not pity me for my life. I actually like how I am and how my life is right now. All I want is for someone to love me for me. To be protected while still getting to be myself. I have never been able to have someone to protect me. I have always been the one to protect. Don't get me wrong, I like being able to protect people but I wish someone would protect me. I thought that Charlotte's father would protect me but he ended up ignoring me because I wasn't interested in the things that he and Charlotte were. Its fine, I'm fine, but I wish he could have been a father figure to me. I've never had one." Blaise said, almost forgetting that Halt was beside her. Blaise pulled down her left shoulder strap, and over her heart was a tattoo. It had the words WARRIOR, FIGHTER, and PROTECTOR in a circle over her heart with a small flower in between each word. In the center of the circle there was a sword and a bow crossed. "This is what I am. What I will always be. I am a warrior, a fighter, and a protector. My life up until this point has made me this." Blaise said quietly.
