It was another beautiful day for this time of year as Weiss waited by the same tree she had slept beneath with Ruby. The past few days had gone by without incident, though Ruby never hinted where they were actually going.

Weiss began pacing around the tree, as nervous as she had ever been over this whole ordeal. This is just friends hanging out, she told herself.

Then why did you take extra care with your appearance?

"Shut up." She told herself; really this habit of self-recrimination was getting to be too much.

Just friends hanging out. Just friends hanging out. The mantra repeated as she paced back and forth under the tree. Weiss was so focused on this that she didn't notice as Ruby approached and watched her for several seconds before interrupting.

"Ready Weiss?" she asked, following Weiss' pacing with her head. When Weiss didn't respond, Ruby reached out and touched her arm gently.

Weiss jumped in alarm and the sudden touch and looked at Ruby.

"Hey! I mean," she took a pause and composed herself "Hello. Are you ready to go?" She looked at Ruby hoping that she wouldn't bring it up. She should have known better than that.

"You've been doing that a lot lately." Ruby stated, her reference clear.

"Doing what?" asked Weiss, feigning ignorance.

"Nothing." Ruby answered, developing a smile "C'mon we've got places to be." She grabbed Weiss' hand and pulled her to walk. "Well, place. But you get the point."

Weiss smiled back at her while being pulled. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all she thought as she tightened her grip and followed Ruby.

They barely spoke on the way to their destination, only exchanging the occasional observation while Ruby refused to tell Weiss where exactly they were going. The silence was a good opportunity for Weiss to observe Ruby though. She was wearing a different outfit than usual, still her trademark black and red but in the form of a light blouse and skirt-hood included of course. Weiss wondered if she had bought that the previous weekend or sometime in the past few days.

She was still trying to figure it out when they finally arrived at what Weiss realized had to be their destination: a small amusement park that she had never been to. Though as a child she had always wanted to go, her parents would never take her or allow the servants to escort her. By the time she was old enough to go by herself or with friends she had become too jaded on her quest to meet expectations that to even entertain the thought.

Something must have changed in her lately though, as a childish sense of excitement began to emerge in her at the prospect of finally coming here. Weiss looked over at Ruby when she had this thought and found her staring back, expecting a judgment on her choice of place.

"It's…" Weiss paused for effect, smirking "acceptable." She finished and began walking to the entrance.

"That means great." Ruby declared as she grabbed Weiss by the arm and began pulling her through the entrance. She threw Lien onto the ticket stand and continued on. Weiss looked back while being pulled and exchanged an awkward smile with the man running the ticket counter.

"Let's go there first." Ruby said, pointing at some sort of game stand. They approached and, from what Weiss could tell, it was a simple enough game – all one had to do was take a one of the scoopers offered and catch a fish. Easy.

"I want to try." Weiss said, sounding more eager than she had intended. She caught herself with a slight cough and went again. "I mean, I'll go first." She stepped up to the stand, paid for her chance and selected her weapon. Weiss stared at the water now, searching for her prey. Then she spotted it, a fish neither too big that it would break her paper scoop nor too small that she would hate to show it off. Heh, it doesn't even know what is about to befall it. Weiss began to angle her scoop along the water and when she felt the moment was right…she struck! Quickly bringing the scoop beneath her prey and bringing it up. She felt her moment of triumph, a natural at this just like everything else.

And then the scoop broke, sending her prize back into the water below. Disappointment flowed through her as she realized a new strategy would need to be adopted.

Ruby must have seen the determination grow across her face because she was snickering next to her, amused at how serious Weiss was taking this game.

"Again." Weiss said, slamming Lien onto the counter. She tried from a different approach this time, slow and steady – the scoop broke not even an inch above the water. "One more time."

Five attempts and five failures later, Weiss gave up. This game was clearly rigged against the player. Dirty cheating game.

"Here you go." Ruby's voice spoke next to her. She turned towards it and came face to face with a bright yellow fish in a clear bag held by Ruby. Her smiling face glowing as she held it up. "You were so focused on getting the fish so I went to another one to try."

She won this for me? "Thank you." Weiss took the bag into her hand while feeling rather silly. "How did you beat a game that obviously cheats?" she spoke, ignoring the offended look of the young man running the game.

"I'll show you." Ruby replied as she grabbed a scooper and gave to Weiss. Weiss gave her a questioning look until Ruby took her hand into hers. "Like this…" She maneuvered herself behind Weiss and began to guide her hand towards the water. Weiss turned a distinctive shade of red as she did this, the contrast against her white outfit making her embarrassment even more obvious.

The thoughts ran through her mind so quickly and Ruby's hand was so warm on hers. Ruby was leaning into Weiss' back and making this all even worse.

"See? Just like that." Ruby said excitedly as she guided Weiss' hand to the bowl.

Wait, when had they scooped the fish? She had been paying absolutely no attention to the game because of how close Ruby had been.

"Yeah, I get it now." Weiss lied, pretending to observe the fish in the bowl to avoid turning around and showing Ruby her flush. "Thanks."

"Anytime!" Ruby replied

After a minute of feigning incredible interest in the fish, Weiss felt composed enough to turn and face Ruby. She placed both bagged fish into her bag, and asked Ruby what she wanted to do next.

"What do you want to do?" was her reply, tilting her head slightly.

'Oh, well…" Weiss knew exactly what she wanted to do but was hesitant. She had often driven by or flown the amusement park as a child and the biggest piece of it had always fascinated her – the Ferris Wheel. The child in Weiss was still keen to try it. "The…Ferris wheel." She muttered.

"The what?"

"That." She stated and pointed towards it.

"Perfect!" Ruby said as soon as she realized what Weiss wanted. "Absolutely perfect." And with that, Weiss was once again being pulled by Ruby's excitement through the crowds of the park.

The line for the ride was fairly long and the two had to wait for about forty minutes to actually get on. Weiss attempted to make conversation but as they got closer and closer to the front, Ruby seemed to grow more distracted. Weiss couldn't figure out why but grew a little suspicious and nervous about the possible reason for her changed behavior.

She had gotten no closer to an answer though, as they were finally at the front and getting into their capsule. The ride began to move and all thoughts of the situation disappeared as they ascended and Weiss' inner child finally had her day at the park. The view was beautiful, the lights of the city and park illuminating into the distance. Much better than flying over she thought to herself.

After the first rotation, they were on their way back down when Ruby turned to look at her and asked "Do you know why I thought this was perfect?"

"The view?" Weiss answered to avoid the direction Ruby was heading towards.

"No." Ruby barely whispered. She was clearly feeling as nervous as Weiss about whatever she was trying to say. "Because now you can't run away." She smiled at her, a tiny smile full of hope and longing.

Oh god, Weiss swore her heart stopped at that smile. It was the most honest thing she had ever seen, innocent and beautiful.

"Sooooo let's talk." Ruby continued "about the things." Now she seemed unsure what to say next. Their capsule rocked slightly as the wheel stopped turning to give them a minute at the top to admire the view.

"Okay." Was all that Weiss could manage. When did it get so hot in here she thought.

Ten seconds passed with nothing, both hoping the other would be the first to break the silence. Ruby once again took the initiative. "I like you." She stated simply. "Weiss I think you're beautiful, caring and underneath all of these layers you put up to protect yourself you care more than anyone else. You care about the team and how we perform, how we feel, you care about what others think of you, and you care about me." She stopped there, perhaps hoping for Weiss to chime in before continuing with a smile "And I put on these stupid clothes and had to go shopping with Yang who wouldn't stop asking questions so if you say I've been reading everything all wrong I am going to be super mad and die of embarrassment right here."

"You're not wrong." Weiss whispered, playing with her hands and feeling as if her heart was about to explode from her chest. "I mean….I've always felt a sort of…attachment to you. Well may be not always." She added remembering how they had met. "But ever since the team formed and we've been working together. I had just never really thought about it until Neptune and his, uh, similar condition came to light." She was breathing normally again, a good sign. Now just get it all out. "That made me think of things and I just couldn't adjust as fast as the feelings were coming. That's why I tried to avoid you; I wanted my mind to play some catch up."

Weiss turned to Ruby after this and they looked at each other, both flushing with nervous smiles.

"Now what?" Weiss asked, unsure how to proceed from these shared revelations. Ruby looked down at her lap and Weiss flushed anew, knowing what she must be thinking. It's your turn to show initiative she told herself, doing her best to quell any doubts.

The wheel jerked again as their descent began.

"Ruby." Weiss said her name and she looked up at her. Weiss didn't hesitate now, she didn't have much time. She quickly leaned in and kissed Ruby, her soft lips feeling perfect against her own. The feeling from her dream seemed to fill Weiss and she continued the display of love with the confidence that gave her.

They were still embraced like this when their capsule came to the bottom and they had to get off. Ruby and Weiss pulled way instantly, embarrassment flooding their expressions. Avoiding eye contact with the attendant, they made their way together away from the wheel and through the park.

Weiss' confidence had disappeared now; she had never been in an actual relationship or whatever this was. What do we do now, she kept wondering as they walked. Ruby answered her question for her as she grabbed her hand, the ever-present warmth surging through the contact, and pointed back towards the stands.

"Come on Weiss," Ruby laughed as she spoke "There's a lot more to do."

Yes, she thought. There really is Ruby.

Note: Thank you for reading this far, it really means a lot to me. I hope you enjoyed the story up to this point. I think this feels fairly conclusive but I am still contemplating another chapter just to show development in their relationship and maybe how this affects interactions with others. I haven't really decided yet. I plan on writing more RWBY stories so please keep checking back. Again thank you, and feel free to leave feedback, suggestions etc.
