Tamaki's POV
I sit in the viewing room with Kyoya. I'm watching a movie while he's working away on his laptop, the usual whenever I come to visit. Except im paying no attention to the picture at all.
"Hey, Kyoya," I say, getting the attention of my friend.
"Yes?" He asks, still typing away.
"You said that Hoshiko's your cousin right?" I ask.
"That would be correct." He assures.
"Well, I know you said she had, or has, poor health, but I still don't get why her parents sent her here?"
"The whole of it is a bit of a long story." He closes his laptop, sets it aside and looking at me says, "But I guess there's no reason I cant tell it. Hoshiko is the only child of the Kato family; she was born almost three month pre-mature, and her mother never was able to bear another child.
" Despite being born so early, she seemed rather healthy, and incredibly intelligent. Hoshiko learned how to walk by the time she was just barely seven months, and talked by fifteen months. But, when she was three, Hoshiko had a terrible asthma attack. On her way to the hospital she had a seizure. That night she had to have a small operation just to stay alive. She had to live in a hospital for three years. After that her parents moved to a mansion in the mountains for therapeutic reasons, to help their daughter's health. Her bedroom might as well have been a hospital room, with all the machines hooked up. No part of her life was worse than her ninth year though. She slipped into two comas, one three weeks and one only a couple of days. She also had a heart-attack. Her parents hired two different doctors. One specialist and one average to live-in. It seemed certain Hoshiko would pass. Her father even started making arrangements for the company's future. He contacted my dad, knowing he had many children. My brother's and I all traveled to their mansion and stayed a week. My uncle interview us all, and just casually talked and spent time with each one of us boys. Being the youngest, I assumed he'd pick my second-eldest brother for the future company successor. And I'm sure my eldest brother only came out of politeness. So rather than spending every waking moment with Mr. Kato, I would go into Hoshiko's room and be with her. The poor girl couldn't talk much; she usually had an oxygen mask on. So I'd do all the talking. Nothing in particular, just anything and everything really. I even had a TV. put into her room, so she wasn't just staring at a blank wall all day. Because of fear for another seizure, what I was allowed to watch with Hoshiko was limited, but I didn't mind, and she didn't seem to either. I remember I'd look at her face and see, even if just a change in her eyes, a reaction and feeling to what I said and what was on.
"Its possible to learn all about a person, even without them saying a word. And that's exactly what happened with me to Hoshiko. Her father ended up choosing me as the successor. Now that I think about it, that was probably because I spent so much time with his daughter. He may be my father's brother, but they're nothing alike, noting much anyways."
I don't say anything for a couple minutes, just let the all of his story sink in. I finally break the silence and ask,
"Wait, if you two already knew each other, then why when we picked her up at the air port did you two act as if it was your first meeting?"
"That's because she doesn't remember me. Obviously she did get better, weather it was just a miracle of the world, or one of the many medications we don't know. But after a certain point of healing she had another operation. After that operation she awoke with amnesia. To this day Hoshiko hasn't regained her memory, and I can tell it's also changed her." After saying the last part I sense Kyoya's attitude change. He almost seems…upset, disappointed?
"Wow I'm so sorry Kyoya. I had no idea…" I say, not knowing what else really to. I stand up and turn to him. "You know, it's not too late to re-connect with Hoshiko. For heaven's sake she's living in your house! Now you haven't finished the story enough to fully answer my question, but I think I can guess." I take a couple steps toward the doorway and say, "I'm going to go invite her to hang out down here with us. While I'm gone why don't you find something she'll like." With a smile and a wink, I turn away and head to the girl's room.
Hoshiko's POV
I hop back into my room though the window. I fall back on to the large bed, and throw my arms over my face. Hearing knocks at the door, I quickly sit at my laptop and say,
"Come in." I look over and am confronted with a warm smile from Tamaki.
"Hey are you feeling OK?" He asks me.
"Yeah, just needed a rest."
"Wonderful. I was just wondering if you'd like to come downstairs and hang out with me and Kyoya." I stand up and say,
"Sure." But as I follow the blonde I think in my head, 'anything to distract my mind from tonight's events.'
