Authors' Note: Hi everyone :3 I'm sorry for the extended hiatus, but don't worry. I'll try to update more if not frequently. Please enjoy my company once more uwu thank you, please review as always for motivation thank you.

Note: I like it when they're younger, so I kind of made them twelve in this story. You can imagine them whatever age you want but I'm imagining in this story they're twelve to make it more dramatic and it's easier to flow.

Chapter 6

Me? Love anyone but the stupid, enrapturing Saukerl who stole my heart? My Jessie Owens wannabe who made off with my heart during his great feat? Never. I'd never allow it.

"I'm going home." Liesel muttered under her breath, getting up and preparing her leave.

"Wait, Lies." Joey rasped, snatching Liesel's hand.

"Release me, Saukerl!" She fumed, wanting to hate him but being unable to bring herself to. Not while he had his face.

"Liesel! You have to understand," Joey said firmly, tightening his grip, "Rudy's gone-

"No he's not!"

"Stop being so stubborn, Saumensch!" Joey snapped, impatient and furious. "Move on! You can't keep living in the past forever!"

Liesel snatched her hand back, immediately landing her hand across his cheek as she did. Joey held the cheek she'd slapped him. Disbelief and confusion eroded his conscience. "I can and I will!" She spat, never feeling quite so rude in her whole life, "Just… Leave me alone, Joey…" She muttered, the guilt catching up to her before she ran off.

~Hurt~

Betrayal and Violence

Two of Many Forms of Hurt

Hurt is what filled Joey Craige that fateful day

When Liesel left him behind

Liesel holed herself in her room, not eating nor sleeping. How could he had done that to her? He knew how much she loved Rudy and yet he still… he still violated her. She racked her brain for an answer, not understanding what was happening to her.

"Why won't it stop?" She sobbed softly, rubbing the endless stream of tears running down her cheeks. "Why do I have to keep getting hurt?"

Frau Herman knocked on Liesel's bedroom door, opening to the sound of her choking on tears. "Oh Liesel." The woman sighed, pulling the docile girl into her arms and rocking her gently.

"I miss papa." Liesel sobbed, taking in the love and kindness of Frau Herman.

"I know my dear." The woman replied with ease, stroking her hair.

"I miss mama."

"I know my dear."

"I miss Max."

"I know my dear."

"I miss Warner."

"I know my dear."

"I miss Rudy." Liesel wailed, clutching to Frau Herman's neatly pressed coat. "I want everyone to come back…" She sobbed harder and louder, completely soaking the elder woman's over shirt.

"I know Liesel." She sighed, wishing she could accomplish the impossible for this young girl filled with heartache and loss. "I want them to come back too…"

~What if, Maybe~

What if Frau Herman really could do the impossible?

What if Liesel had saved her papa?

What if Liesel stayed in her room that night?

What if Rudy lived?

Oh wait, He did…

Frau Herman took Liesel by the hand, wiping the tears from the girl's face. She smiled, but it wasn't very strong. Just enough. It was just enough for the girl. "Let's eat now, Liesel." The woman encouraged, stroking her cheek. "You must be famished from two days of no food."

Liesel smiled and nodded. "Yes, Frau Herman."

Frau Herman's face lit up from the satisfaction of helping out her little girl. "That's my Liesel."

Liesel scarfed down plate after plate of baked chicken and poached potatoes, her ravenous appetite getting the better of her. "It's delicious!" She chimed, grinning from ear to ear. "Can I have seconds?" She asked through chews, holding out her plate for more.

Frau Herman laughed as Herr Herman shook his head with a smile tugging at his lips. "Do you mean fifths, Liesel?" Frau Herman chuckled, taking the girl's plate and filling it once more. "We're almost out of leftovers!"

Liesel blushed profusely from embarrassment. "Sorry…" She mumbled, smiling. "Just… Hungry…"

"We know." Herr Herman nodded, acknowledging the young girl which he did very rarely.

Liesel smiled, tucking into her fifth plate of dinner before stopping. The thought of confronting Joey the next day put butterflies in her stomach. A feeling she didn't need. What about Juliet? Joey's GIRLFRIEND and her best friend. She'd be riddened with guilt and to lose her best friend was not on Liesel's agenda.

Liesel lay in her room, sighing endlessly. She wanted to forget the Saukerl, thinking about him was similar to believing that Rudy really never would return to her. She knew it was true, but she didn't want to believe in it. That maybe if one person truly believed he was alive, he would be.

Pang!

Liesel perked from her spot, looking around then at her window. "I swear I heard something-

Pang!

The girl got on her feet and strolled over to her window. She unlatched them and pushed forward allowing the fresh winter breeze to brush over her. Liesel stuck her head out the window, looking around for the source of the mysterious throwing of the rocks. Before she was about to close her window, brushing off the noise and some rain or something, a pebble struck her straight on the forehead.

"Ow!" She yelped, sticking her head out the window once more, irritated. "Who's out there?" She barked, rubbing the spot the rock had hit.

A boy stepped out from behind the tree which grew on the front lawn of the Hermans' household. He had luscious hazel hair and a faint grey colour to his eyes. He was dressed casually and was clearly expecting someone.

"Um…?" Liesel slurred in confusion. "Who are you?"

"I should be asking you that!" He sighed in defeat. "You're not who I was looking for."

Liesel scrunched up her face. "Why'd you throw a rock at me?" She remembered, glaring at the boy through the darkness.

"It's your fault isn't it?"

"Why are you so rude?" She barked, impatient. "What's your name?"

"Tell me yours first." He replied, leaning against the tree.

"Liesel." She replied. "Liesel Meminger."

"Edward." He introduced. "Edward Stuhlinger."

~A Note About Edward~

He was your neighbourhood trouble maker

A boy enamoured by the idea of love

He liked girls very much

But he liked Liesel the most

"Why are you even here?" Liesel asked, impatient with Edward. "It's…" Liesel glanced at her wall clock before replying, "Eleven forty-five."

"Yeah, but it doesn't matter." He replied nonchalantly, shrugging away his worries.

"Why not?" She asked, curious. "Won't your family worry about you?"

Edward shrugged without a care in the world. "She's a Schlampe." He explained, crouching down now. "She's a slut."

Liesel blinked, wanting to excuse his language but still managing to pity the young boy. "You couldn't possibly-

"She bring home a new man every day." Edward sighed, sick and tired of the conversation. "But what my mum does doesn't bother me. Tell me 'bout yourself, Liesel."

The girl was dumbfounded that someone would actually take the time to get to know her. "Um… What's there to say?"

Edward rolled his eyes, smiling soon after. "Your story, Saumensch. Tell me 'bout your story."

Liesel didn't know what to say without the tears coming on again, so she told him her fond memories. The memories where her papa would play the accordion for Rudy and her, the snowman with Max and even the laundry duties she had with Rosa.

The two laughed and spoke till sunrise not in the least bit tired. Even Liesel's stomach and the nervousness Joey gave her wore off. "Shit!" Edward cussed, noticing the sunrise. "I have to go, before mama realises I'm missing."

Liesel nodded, realising she had to prepare for school as well. "See you some other time, Edward?"

"We go to the same school you know." Edward informed nonchalantly. "We're seeing each other in a few hours."

Liesel blinked, dumbfounded. "What?"

"See you at school, Liesel." Edward shouted before running off.

Liesel sighed, smiling. She could use a friend like Edward who she could share her endless troubles with. The sun rises and Liesel has a confrontation to prepare. It was going to be a very long two hours.
