Authors note: Sorry this chapter has taken a while to write. I got hooked on this new game I bought and completely forgot to do any writing. I did a little more research on the game, and found out something rather embarrassing. Robin's sword, The Arm's blade is actually Alm's Blade which I misread when choosing Robin's weapon. So if you are wondering what the sword looks like then look for Alm's Blade. Anyway please enjoy and leave your reviews as normal. Thank you.
Fire Emblem Awakening: Defying Destiny
The Hellish Journey
"*Yaaaaaaawwwwwwwnnnnnnn*"
"Geez, Robin!" Lissa cried from the back of Frederick's horse. "That was some yawn!"
"Thanks." Robin deadpanned raising a tired hand. He was so tired; bags were forming under his eyes.
"How is it that you so tired?" Virion asked annoyance in his voice. He was walking just behind Robin. "Just who was it that suggested we retire earlier than normal in order to be well rested for this mission?"
Robin sighed. "I get it I'm a hypocrite." He replied turning to archer and giving him a glare which quickly turned into a smirk. "At least I'm not wearing ruffles, Ruffles."
Virion's face contorted into one of anger. "This..." He started, gesturing to his ruffled shirt before he continued. "Is the cutting edge of fashion, I'll have you know. And don't call me Ruffles you-!"
"Can it Ruffles!" Sully shouted back from atop of her horse.
"Yes ma'am" Virion squeaked, instantly calming.
Robin and Vaike, who had been walking next to Robin the entire journey so far, burst out laughing.
"Finally given up ave ya Ruffs" Vaike taunted.
"Shut up, Barbarian." Virion muttered under his breath.
Vaike walked over and patted the archer on the back.
"Oh calm it!" Vaike cried. "We're jus Joking with ya."
Robin laughed again before looking up at the sky. It was still early morning so the sun shone low on the horizon the first bits of heat reaching the earth. The Shepherds had left Ylisstol a little over an hour ago. The group were all in high spirits. Unfortunately Miriel and Stahl had not arrived in time, the latter Robin still hadn't met yet, so the group had left a note and set off. The shepherds who were currently present were Chrom, Frederick, Lissa, Virion, Sully and Sumia, all of which were dresses in the same armour Robin had met them in, each holding their own respective weapons. Vaike, who was dressed in brown, leather fighter's armour, however he was still shirtless. Robin looked around again. Squinting, he finally noticed the very tall man in knight's armour. Robin had eventually found out his name was Kellam. Apparently he was very hard to find. Appearing one minute and disappearing the next. Robin noticed carried a large ad heavy looking lance.
Once he was done looking at the group, Robin increased his pace until it was matched with Chrom's who was at the front of the group.
"It seems to be everyone's in high spirits today." He said to his friend
Chrom nodded his head in agreement, a goofy grin on his face. "It will be nice if we can this attitude all the way to Ferox."
"Yeah."
Suddenly Chrom became serious. "Robin, later on we need to talk more about that thing." He whispered the last part so, Frederick, who was leading his horse by the reigns, was unable to hear.
Robin nodded, remembering the events of the previous night.
"It's good to see you again, Violet."
"Brother." Violet replied coldly. She remained where she stood, her arms crossed. Robin noticed Violet had changed her hair style from pig tails to twin braids. She had also changed her clothes. Even though she still wore the same cloak Robin did, she now wore a black dark flier outfit which showed a slight amount of cleavage.
"I...um like your new look..." Robin started.
"I'm not here for a friendly chat." Violet deadpanned.
"So what do you want?" Robin asked, slightly annoyed. "I came all the way out here to this alley, in the middle of the night, so that we could have an undisturbed talk, just because I recognised your presence!"
Violet was slightly taken back by Robin's outburst and took a few seconds to collect her thoughts.
"You chose to come here. I could have just as easily teleported into the dirt hole you call a room." Her voice was calm but her eyes remained emotionless.
"Hey! The Shepherds gave me all they could and I'm happy with what I was given!"
"Hah, if you had come with me when I asked in the bloody forest, you would be living in luxury right now!"
Robin stopped and thought through what his sister had just said. "What do you mean?"
Violet sighed. "It doesn't matter." She took a step forward. "Have you come to your senses yet, brother? Master is eagerly awaiting your return."
Robin anger grew. "And that's another thing! Who is this master person! I have no memories of any of person! How can you expect me to trust you, if you won't tell me anything!?"
"Because I've been ordered not to!" Violet screamed back, her cold facade shattering as she did so. Tears began forming in her eyes as she let loose her feelings. "Do you have any idea how hard it is for me to hold this back from you! I want to tell you everything, gods dammit!" Violet sank to her knees tears streaming down her face. "I just want my brother back." She murmured.
Robin found himself speechless. Even though he could only remember certain things about his sister, memories he had unlocked during their fight in the forest, but he couldn't remember her ever crying. His brotherly instincts kicking in, he moved into comfort her. He got down on his knees and wrapped his arms around his sister and hugged her, surprising Violet,
"I'm sorry Violet, I'm sorry that I'm not and probably will never be the brother you remember." After hearing a few more sobs, Robin ended the hug and moved Violet's head so she was looking him in the eyes. "But if you help me, then maybe I can get pretty close to the Robin you once knew."
Violet continued to look at her brother's kind eyes for a few seconds before rising to her feet. She reached into her cloak and pulled out a purple handkerchief and dabbed her eyes. She then looked towards Robin, who had also risen from the ground, and gave him a sad smile.
"You're already acting like you used to whenever you saw me upset about something. You always knew what to say to me."
"It appears I still do." Robin chuckled before looking around the alleyway they were in. "I think we should talk some more about the past. But let's go somewhere a little more inviting than this alley."
To his surprise, Violet shook her head.
"I'm afraid that I cannot do that, Robin." She said sadly. "As much as I want to."
"But, but why?!" Robin cried desperately. Violet was the only family he could remember and he did not want to lose her. "Stay with me, join the shepherds. We can be a family again."
Violets tears began to return as she listened to her brother's pleas. She shook her head and looked away. "I'm sorry, but I am bound to our master. I am unable to leave him at this time. We-we should return together."
Robin's anger once again rose to the surface. "Why!?" he demanded. "Who is this master person?! Why are you so loyal to him?"
Violet looked away from her brother. "You wouldn't understand." She said simply. "Not yet anyway."
"Then help me, please." Robin continued to plea. "Let me help you."
"Robin, you can't help me, no one can." Violet turned away before continuing. "You see I am under our master's complete control. I have my free will, but I must for fill his every whim..." She placed her left hand on top of her other wrist. "...Or else I am punished."
Robin looked from Violet to her wrist. Suddenly he dashed forward, grabbing his sister's arm.
"H-hey, Robin!" Violet exclaimed.
Ignoring her, Robin pulled up the sleeves of both Violets cloak and her rider's uniform, exposing a large burn mark. Robin was shocked. He looked at his sister but could not meet her eyes.
"You call this punishment?" He asked angrily. "This is torture! You actually let him do this to you?!"
Violet looked away from Robin, unable to look him in the eyes. She pulled back her arm and
"I told you. I have no choice in the matter." She replied quietly. "I must do everything he tells me, even if I don't want to."
"What do you mean?" Robin asked curiously.
"Our master has a strange power over me which allows him to control me, whenever he wants to." Violet replied.
"That's, inhuman." Robin stated, disgusted.
"Yes, I agree."
Robin turned away from his sister and tried to process what he had been told. "So, he ordered you to find and return me."
"Yes." She simply relied. "I admit I honestly don't want you to return."
"What? But in the forest?"
"I was ordered to return you to master through any means necessary." There was a slight pause before she spoke again. "However, I honestly was happy when you remembered me."
Robin turned to take another look at his sister. She was looking down as spoke to him.
"Violet, what are you hiding?"
"Robin, something's are best not remembering."
"But Violet!"
"I'm sorry Robin. I must leave now." Violet finally turned and smiled at her brother. "Until next time." Magical energy began to form around her
Robin dashed forward, trying to catch her.
"Violet! Wait!" He cried.
"Goodbye." With those words, Violet finally disappeared, leaving Robin alone in the alleyway.
Frustrated, Robin fell to his knees and pounded his fist into the ground.
"Dammit!" He screamed in to the night. "Violet, I swear to you! I will free you from this "Master's" control! And we will be a family again, I swear it!"
By the time Robin had made it back to the shepherd's garrison and into his bed, it was nearly dawn. Robin had told Chrom about the meeting as soon as he had seen him that morning, asking him not to mention it to anyone.
Robin let looked up towards the sky, racking his mind for a way he would be able to help his sister. Seeing his friends concern, Chrom placed a reassuring hand on Robin's shoulder.
"Do not worry my friend. I promise you, we shall find a way to help your sister."
Robin smiled, happy knowing he had his friends support. "Thank you, Chrom."
"Think nothing of it. Besides, we have a mission to accomplish. We all need to be in the right state of mind."
"Yeah." Robin nodded in agreement.
The group continued walking for a little longer before cry's coming from behind made the group turn.
"Hey, wait up! Wait for me!"
Looking behind him, Robin found himself looking at a male cavalier riding up to them. He wore similar armour to Sully, however it was green. He also had messy, grey-green hair. Upon reaching them, he dismounted his horse and began to catch his breath.
"He was riding on a horse." Robin thought in disbelief. "How is he exhausted?"
"Stahl?" Chrom addressed the man.
"W-why a-am I- the last to hear- hear about this-this mission?" Stahl asked between breathes.
"What?!" Lissa cried in disbelief. She turned towards Vaike, who was now whistling and pretending to look at the sky. "Vaike you were supposed to remember to tell him when you saw him last night! Vaike! Did you forget to tell Stahl about our mission?"
"Hey! The Vaike never forgets!" Vaike replied before turning to see the questionable looks he was receiving from the rest of the group. He then looked away and quietly stated. "I just don't always remember, is all..."
The group all groaned before Lissa continued.
"I swear, you'd forget your own name if you weren't constantly saying it yourself!" She pointed finger at the fighter. "Speaking of which, are you SURE you remembered your axe this time?"
Vaike, annoyed, retorted back to Lissa. "Hey! That was one time!" He stopped after getting more dirty glances from the group. "...Okay, twice, but training sessions don't count." He began to reach over his shoulder trying to grab something. "Anyway, I got it right here. Teach is loaded and ready for action!" His face turned to one of embarrassment. "Uhh...yeah... about my axe..." Vaike started.
"You are kidding, Vaike?" Chrom asked, annoyance clear in his voice.
"Yeah...uh...no...heh heh" Vaike laughed nervously.
Chrom and Lissa face palmed, Robin and Sumia sighed, Frederick gave Vaike a disapproving glare and Virion, Sully and Stahl all tried to contain their giggles.
Suddenly a scream rang out from across the hill in front of them. The shepherds, acting quickly, ran up the hill only to discover a gruesome sight. Robin looked out over the blood coated grassy area and felt his stomach drop. The same monsters that they had fought only a week before were scattered all around the area. However around them were the bloodied corpses of around two dozen soldiers. One of the creatures was finishing of the soldier who had screamed, plunging its axe into the soldier's chest.
"No!" Robin cried, but it was too late.
The Shepherds grimaced as they watched the soldier's body fall to the ground. Sumia seemed the most shaken, dropping her lance and falling to the floor. Chrom looked at the sight angrily.
"Damn" He said through gritted teeth, anger evident in his voice. "The Risen have spread this far?"
"Risen?" Robin asked, hiding the anger slowly bubbling inside of him.
"We needed a name for this new threat." Frederick explained, sadly looking over the sight of the dead soldiers. "So the council gave them one."
Chrom turned to the others. "Everyone, remember what we're up against! Battle is nigh!" He turned to Robin. "Robin, we turn to you now for orders, what shall we do?"
Robin continued to look at the Risen for a few more moments before turning to give his commands.
"Alright guys listen up! Frederick, Stahl, Sully, your taking point. Cut down anything that gets in your path."
"Alright!" Sully exclaimed. "Time for some payback!"
"Virion, stay back and supply cover fire." Robin looked towards the still hunched figure of Sumia. "Make sure Sumia is safe. She is not quite in fighting condition."
Virion looked at Sumia and nodded. "I understand."
"Lissa be ready to heal anyone who gets hurt."
"Got it!"
"Vaike."
"Yeah! What do you want ol'Teach to do. The Vaike is ready to bust some Risen skulls!"
"Vaike, stay back for now."
"Wha?!" Vaike gawked at the tactician.
"Without your axe you are both defenceless and useless in this situation." Robin told him bluntly. "You will most likely be hurt or killed."
"But-"
"No buts. Stay behind the others and if need be use Sumia's lance to protect the others. Do you understand?"
Vaike dropped his head and sighed. "Yes." He replied quietly.
Robin turned to Chrom. "You and I will flank them at the sides after the riders have started their attack."
Chrom smiled slightly. "Got it."
Robin took another look over the area the Risen were infesting. The creature's formation seemed messy, unorganised. Robin looked at the Risen. He could not see anything that resembled the leader Risen they had faced a week ago. These Risen must be stragglers from a larger group. It would defiantly be easier than the fight a week ago.
"Frederick, on my command, you and the others begin your charge."
Frederick gave Robin a look of disapproval, clearly still not ready to fully trust the tactician. Despite this, the great knight nodded and he and the two cavaliers readied their weapons. Robin took note that whereas Sully was using a spear, Stahl was using a sword.
"Ruffles, ready your bow." Robin directed Virion.
"Yes, yes." Virion sighed, annoyed about being called by his nickname again.
Robin drew the arms blade and held up his free hand ready to give the word for riders the order to move. "Everyone remember now, always go for the fatal blow with these things Robin waited until the Risen were in close proximity of each other before giving the order.
"Now Frederick!"
With that, the three riders directed their horses forward. They rushed down the hill, tackling the Risen head on. Within seconds the Risen number had been cut significantly, a smog of dark smoke rising into air as the Risen disappeared. The horsemen were closely followed by Chrom and Robin. Where Chrom flanked the Risen to the left, Robin flanked them to the right. The two swords men cut through the remaining Risen. Robin slashed the chest of the first Risen, causing it to instantly turn into the similar dark smoke that the ones that had preceded it had. He moved on to the next one, decapitating it and on to the next. He struck with ferocious strikes, avenging the soldiers who had fallen at the hand of these monsters. He was so engrossed in slaying the monsters he didn't notice one of the Risen run up behind him. Robin turned just in time to see the creature. He moved to block the attack but he knew he wouldn't be fast enough.
"No!" Robin thought. "This can't be where it ends!"
Suddenly an axe came out of nowhere and struck the Risen in the chest, causing to disappear into the similar purple smoke the others had. Still shell shocked, Robin barely noticed Vaike's cries as he ran up and picked up his axe from the ground.
"Yeeeaah!" He cried. "That's how the Vaike does it!" He turned to Robin and offered him his hand. "Bet you regret not letting ol Teach in on the action now doncha?"
Robin chuckled slightly and took the offered hand allowing himself to be pulled from the ground by the fighter. "Yeah I do." Robin replied smiling slightly. "Thanks for the assist." He gestured towards the axe Vaike had suddenly acquired. "Where'd that come from?"
Vaike swung the axe over his shoulder and laughed. "Miriel brought it." He explained. "She threatened to use er magic to permanently glue the thang to ma hand as well." He chuckled.
Robin looked over to the top of the hill where Virion was firing arrows only to find that the red haired mage with the ridiculously large hat was indeed there, firing her trademark fire magic to burn the Risen's bodies causing them to turn in to more of the purple smoke.
"Ok then." Robin said before looking at the rest of the battle. There were only a few Risen left. "Hey Vaike, how about a wager?"
"I'm lisning." The eager fighter replied.
"The guy who kills the most Risen, the other guy buys a drink."
"Deal!" Vaike said with enthusiasm. "Let's do it! The sooner I win the sooner I get that drink." The fighter ran off, his axe poised.
"Don't bet on it." Robin laughed as he ran after him.
It wasn't long after that, that all the Risen had been taken care of. Robin looked around in satisfaction. His strategy had worked and no one had been hurt in the process. Overall he felt pretty happy with himself. However, as he looked around, Robin couldn't help but feel sadness. The bodies of soldiers around him unsettled him. He looked around at them. Chrom had ordered that each one receive a proper burial for their noble sacrifice in the name of Ylisse. If he felt this bad about people he hardly knew, then how bad would he feel if these people were one of the Shepherd's? Robin swore that as long as he was tactician of the Shepherd's, he would not allow anyone of them to die.
There was also one more thing that was bothering him.
"Well Robin, when we get bak to Ylisstol, you owe me a drink." Vaike said, suddenly appearing behind the tactician and slapping him on the back; either unaffected or hiding his emotions out about the soldiers.
"Yeah, don't worry I'll keep my word, you'll get your drink." Robin said sadly, instantly regretting making a bet with a seasoned fighter knowing it wouldn't just be "one drink".
"Robin!"
Robin looked towards the Prince of Ylisse, who was standing just a few feet away.
"What!"
"You're going to want to see this!"
Robin, curiosity brimming, wandered over to where Chrom was standing.
"It's over here." Chrom told him, leading Robin towards a separate part of the field. Robin noticed Lissa and Sumia standing still. Behind them was a...
"Is that what I think it is?" Robin asked in awe.
"Yep." Chrom simply replied.
Before them was a beautiful white Pegasus, equipped with a harness and armor plating. However something seemed off about the way it hung its wings.
Chrom stepped forward. "It's a Pegasus, all right. I think it's hurt. Let's just have a look here..."
Suddenly the Pegasus went wild. It reared and began to kick at Chrom, which the latter only just managed to avoid, dive rolling to the side in order to avoid the Pegasus's hooves. He got up instantly and immediately tried to calm the animal.
"WHOA! Down, girl! Easy there!" Despite Chrom's efforts, the Pegasus would not calm down.
Sumia rushed forward. "Captain, one moment!" As she came forward, she once again tripped over nothing, earning her sympathetic groans from the others, even the Pegasus seemed to wince. Chrom hurried over to the girl and helped off the ground.
"Sumia! Are you all right?" He asked concerned. "...Those boots of yours again?"
Sumia blushed furiously. "No! I mean, yes! I mean...*sigh*"
Chrom sighed before moving in-between Sumia and the Pegasus. "Well, come no closer. The beast is crazed!"
However Sumia persisted moving past Chrom. "It's okay, Captain. I can handle this..." She placed a gentle hand upon the Pegasus's snout. "Shhh...easy now, girl. I won't hurt you." Almost instantly the Pegasus calmed and grew gentle. The others watched stunned at the spectacle in front of them. "Shhh..." Sumia continued.
"How did she calm it so quickly?" Robin asked in awe.
"That's incredible, Sumia!" Lissa chimed.
"I've never seen anything like it." Chrom interjected, blushing slightly. "She sure is beautiful." He murmured the last part however Robin still heard him.
"What was that Chrom?"
"Umm...nothing!" Chrom replied a little too quickly, turning redder.
"Gods, how are these two not together?" Robin thought.
"A-n-yway..." Lissa continued. "Sumia, you truly have an amazing talent!"
Sumia smiled brightly as she stroked the Pegasus's mane. "I-its nothing really. I've just always had a way with animals."
"We can tell." Chrom said, blushing slightly.
Despite the somewhat "sweet" scene that was unfolding before Robin, they had a mission to accomplish.
Robin tapped Chrom on the shoulder; bring him out of his trance. "Chrom, we should really continue."
Chrom looked around quickly, remembering where he was.
"Er...yeah, right." He turned to Sumia. "Sumia, we can wait if you would like us to."
Sumia shook her head. "No, don't worry. We will catch up once I have treated her wounds."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, so please go ahead."
Chrom nodded his head. "Okay then, we will see you once you're ready."
"Th-thank you, Captain." Sumia chimed.
With a quick farewell, Chrom, Robin and Lissa walked back to the others, who had just finished burying the soldiers. Before they continued, Chrom said a few words to thank the soldiers for their service to Ylisse and their sacrifice. With that, the Shepherd's continued down the road towards Regna Ferox.
"Robin, you do realise that Kellam was here the whole time too, right?"Lissa asked him.
"Kellam?!" Robin face palmed.
"You called?"
"Ahh!" Robin and Lissa screamed.
"What?" Kellam asked.
"Kellam, how do you do that?" Robin asked.
"How do I do what? I have been standing here the whole time, carrying the bags." Kellam explained.
"Right, anyway I'm sorry I forgot about you when I came up with the plan earlier."
"That's alright, I was able to help you guys out by carrying these bags."
Robin noticed that Kellam was indeed carrying most of the groups bags.
"Gods Kellam I am really sorry. Do you need any help?"
"No don't worry, I can manage." The giant of a Man looked towards the sky. "Hey, look at that bird."
Both Robin and Lissa looked towards the sky only to see a beautiful red bird.
"Yeah, Kellam it looks so cool!" Lissa exclaimed but was greeted by silence. "Hey Kellam, you listening!" Both Robin and Lissa looked back towards where Kellam had been to see that he had once again disappeared.
"How does he do that?" Robin asked Lissa.
"Don't worry about it. He's probably just talking to Miriel. Apparently they have been spending a lot of time together since Kellam joined the Shepherd's." Lissa leaned in to whisper in Robin's ear. "I reckon Kellam has a thing for Miriel."
Robin looked over to where Miriel was walking. At first glance it looked as if she was holding onto midair, however upon a second and then a third glance followed by a hard squint allowed Robin to make out the rather tall knight walking beside her. "Great" Robin thought to himself. "How many more people have a thing for each other in this unit?" He sighed. "At least these two are actually admitting their feeling for each other." His thoughts turned to Chrom and Sumia. Somehow he needed to get those two together. Thinking of the former, he looked towards Chrom. The prince of Ylisse was walking at the front of the Shepherd's, the ever faithful Frederick leading his horse at his side. Every so often Chrom would cast a glance back to where the group had come from.
"Waiting for her like a lost puppy isn't he." Lissa giggled.
"Uh huh." Robin agreed. "He's head over heels for her."
"Yep."
"And Sumia adores him."
"Uh huh."
"Wanna help me set your brother up with Sumia."
"Defiantly. "
The two friends snickered as they began making plans to make the unsuspecting Prince and Pegasus knight an official couple.
It was a few hours later and the Shepherd's were finally in sight of the northern barrier. However they were now so far north that it had started snowing. Thick white snow coated the ground. Everyone, except Frederick who thought it unfit to remove his armor, had resorted to wearing their heavy clothes for warmth. It had taken a while, but after much hassle (and a sticking spell from Miriel) the group had finally managed to get a coat upon Vaike. Chrom was starting to get restless, giving longer glances towards the sky, looking for any sight of Sumia.
"She'll be fine Chrom, Sumia is a strong willed person and will get here fine on her own." Robin told him placing a hand on his shoulder trying to ease his friends worry.
"Yeah, I know." The blue haired prince sighed. "But still, I can't help but worry about her."
Robin grinned devilishly. "You really have a thing for Sumia, don't you?"
Chrom seemed to choke on something before giving Robin a look of disbelief. "What!?"
"Well it's quite clear you like her." Robin explained. "She enters a room and suddenly you can't keep you concentration unless you're in the middle of a fight."
"Well, I wouldn't say that..."
"Hey look! There's Sumia!" Robin exclaimed, pointing to the sky.
Chrom turned instantly. "Where!?"
Robin began laughing. "Way to easy!"
"Sometimes you are unbearable." Chrom sighed.
The group continued walking for a little longer, heading towards the barrier. Lissa, despite her thick coat, was freezing.
"F-F-Frebberick! I'm f-f-freebing!" She complained.
Frederick Chuckled slightly. "Stand beside my horse, milady. He'll protect you from the wind."
"Thank you!" The overactive girl instantly took shelter at the horse's side. "And thank you Gabriel" The horse gave an affectionate neigh.
As they got closer Robin was amazed by the sheer size and length of the barrier. "This is the barrier?!" he exclaimed.
Chrom nodded his head. "Yes. The Longfort. It stretches along the border of Ylisse and Regna Ferox."
"The khans that rule Ferox have grown quite wary of foreigners." Frederick continued. "Still, don't mistake a lack of hospitality for open hostility." He warned. "This simply calls for a bit of diplomacy."
Chrom sighed. "Negotiation's not my strong suit, but I'll do my best." He stopped and turned to address the group. "Remember, everyone: your actions here reflect back upon Ylisse."
Almost immediately, everyone looked at Vaike.
"Wat?!" The axe man asked, clearly not understanding why he was being given the looks he was receiving.
(...)
The Shepherd's were now in front of the Longfort. They were waiting to be given an audience with the commander of the Longfort in order to be given an audience with the East Khan. However it was taking a long time.
"Where's are host!?" Lissa exclaimed. "I want to get out of the cold!"
"We all do, Lissa but we have to wait patiently for are hosts to allow us access to their nation. It is the polite thing to do." Chrom told her, however Robin was pretty sure he heard an "unfortunately" under the prince's breath.
Suddenly, the sound of moving armour caused the Shepherd's to look up towards the top of the Longfort. Staring back down at them, each armed with a particularly nasty looking javelin, were a dozen, armored, Feroxi soldiers above them.
"Milord I believe it wise that we prepare for battle." Frederick whispered in Chrom's ear.
"I agree." Chrom concurred. "Tell the others to be ready for a fight."
"Yes, milord." As soon as the knight had spoken he was gone.
The Shepherd's were soon armed and ready. Robin kept his tome in his hand ready for the fight everyone was expecting.
At the top of the Longfort another figure approached the edge. Robin noticed that it was a woman. She had short blond hair and appeared to be the same age as Philia. She wore different variation of armor than the rest of the Feroxi soldiers as it had green. However she, like the other soldier's, was also armed with a javelin.
"Halt!" The woman cried in a booming voice. "Who goes there?!"
Chrom stepped forward.
"In the name of House Ylisse, I humbly seek audience with the khans!" Chrom called back to the armored woman.
Suddenly a javelin landed in front of Chrom causing him to stumble back. The Shepherd's automatically brought out their weapons. They looked up to see that the woman had thrown her javelin.
"Not another step, my bold lad!" The armored woman continued as if she were she were addressing a commoner rather than threatening a prince. She gestured to the other knights at her sides. "I've lancers at the ready!"
"Hold, milady!" Frederick shouted out, trying to contain his anger. "We are not your enemy! Exalt Emmeryn herself sent us to discuss matters of mutual interest!" He explained.
"My only interest is keeping you out of Regna Ferox, brigand!" The woman shouted back, once again stunning everyone.
"Ma'am, we are not brigands, we are indeed Ylisseans seeking audience with the khans!" Robin tried to explain.
However it appeared that the armored woman was not listening. "You think you are the first "Ylisseans" to try and cross our border?!" She barked. "I have the authority to fell such imposters where they stand."
"How dare you!" Frederick shouted, outraged. "You are in the presence of Prince Chrom, the exalt's own blood!"
The woman began to laugh. "Yes, indeed-and I'm the queen of Valm! You do realise impersonating royalty is a capital offence, yes?"
"Impersonating!" Frederick and Chrom gasped, the latter slightly shocked that he wasn't believed to be himself.
"Perhaps we should settle this the Feroxi way then!" The woman shouted before moving to address Chrom. "You claim to be the prince of Ylisse? The prove it on the battlefield! Lancers!"
All at once the knights at the top all brought up their javelins, their aim fixed on Chrom.
"Please, good lady! If you'd just listen-" Chrom started.
"I've heard quite enough!" The woman called out. "Attack!"
All at once, the knights threw their javelins. Each one aimed at Chrom.
All of the Shepherd's rushed forward as time seemed to slowed down.
"Chrom!" Robin called out; however he, like the rest of the Shepherd's, were to slow, as the javelins struck the ground.
