Chapter 7 Drace No Name
Tom sighed deeply and stared at the Hufflepuff boy next to him, Neville Longbottom. The other boy just continued talking about plants and herbs, then changed to his pad, and again back to herbs, which annoyed Tom to hell, while the day was just beginning. He really began to regret making friends with Neville, he was more annoying then his naive other Hufflepuff friends. At some moment Tom began to ich to his wand which he hadn't anymore, instead he took Harry is his conversation, trying to get away with it. Though the chances weren't high he knew. Harry was a slytherin, which everyone despised. Even though Tom had made friends with his housemates, telling them that they had to try to act friendly like a noble hufflepuff would do, he could feel how wary they still were.
"Harry, do you like Mandragoras as well?"
Harry looked up. "Hmm, yes nice plants. They're cute?" Harry stated, though it sounded asking. Neville started laughing quietly, still not used to the other.
"Shall we first go to the Book shop?" Tom asked, changing the subject. Fortunately for Tom, Neville didn't talk about herbs anymore. "Really you go to the books first? The candyshop is much better!" he stated. They just arrived in Hogsmaede, where muggleborns were spending their day with an older student. Their objective was getting their own wands and explore more of the place as the staff explained before breakfast.
"But it will be busy I guess, we could go later anyway." Harry said.
"That's true." Neville agreed. "I didn't know you liked books. Did you get books in the dark zone too?" He asked nervously, hoping he hadn't hit a risky nerv.
"Yes, we do. And we did but it was hardly to get. Books were only for those who were worthy, well the magic ones. Muggles would only get books on how to behave and other stupid things." Harry answered, knowing Tom had no idea about it.
"Oh I'm sorry." He squirmed.
"No need to be sorry. It's the dark lord's fault." He said with much hate in his voice, yet pleasure in his mind.
"Yeah, but luckily you're now out of his grasp. The light is much better." Harry doubted it, but said nothing. "This is the bookshop, right?" Tom asked, but there was no need. He already knew and books were displayed behind the front windows. Neville nodded. "They got a beautiful collection of books, I've heard. I'm not often here though, only for the herbs books as you maybe would have noticed by now." He laughed nervously. They walked inside and a whole arsenal of books was seen from the moment they came in.
"Welcome, welcome, young students of Hogwarts. What can I help you with?" an older wizard asked. Tom couldn't remember an assistant in his world, he assumed he was to help the muggleborns who weren't familiar with the magic world.
Tom put up a happy facade and asked curiously:"I want to know more about the wizard world, starting with the history. Do you have such books?" The man nodded and smiled friendly,"Yes, son. I'll show you were it is. Do you have other requests?"
Tom looked at the others. Neville shook his head, Harry said nothing. The assistant nodded he understood and walked them to the history department. Then he asked them if he could help them further, Tom replied with: "We will look for ourselves. Thank you." The wizard bid him farewell and walked back to help other custumers.
"I didn't know you were interested in history." This time it was not Neville who asked, but Harry.
"I want to keep everything up to date." He returned.
"History is so boring." Neville said. "Really, it looks at first sight funny, with much action in it. But when you attend history lessons you'll regret ever coming there."
Tom pretended not believing him and sought for the books he wanted to have. It took a lot of time, and he could already hear Neville yawning and Harry… well, he had the feeling the other boy stared at him the whole time, not missing a beat.
At some moment, Neville warned him, he shouldn't use to much money. They had gotten some galleons from the school, like the orphan funds, only this time the mudblood funds, but it was indeed not much. And he had to buy a new wand as well.
Tom decided to stop and behind him could be heard a relieved sigh. He paid for the books and walked out of the store, his two 'friends' following him behind. Outside, it was already dark.
"This late already, I'm sorry. Time flies by quickly." He said apologizing, though didn't feel sorry. Well, actually he did, for apologizing. . .Apologizes.
"It's fine really." Harry said. Neville nodded as well.
"Well, shall we go to Ollivander's?" he asked. They made there way to the wand shop and leapt inside. A few figures stood in front of the desk, Ollivander was nowhere to be seen. The figures who stood there turned around. Tom recognized them and felt hate coming up. In front of the desk stood Dumbledore, a hooded Draco Malfoy and Mcgonagall.
Neville had also recognized them. "Draco Malfoy?!" He quickly took out his wand, but Dumbledore wove it away.
"Neville, he isn't an enemy." He began calmly.
"He is a Malfoy!" Neville countered, though he let his wand down.
"Was a Malfoy." Mcgonagall replied.
Dumbledore sighed. "Let me explain. Draco here is from now on attending Hogwarts. He was disowned by his father and ended up here. I can assure you it's the truth and he won't cause any trouble if you don't do either of course. Now tell me, what are you doing here this late?" He changed the subject.
"We were buying books, though we didn't know it took much time." Neville answared, still not letting his guard down even when he had put away his wand.
"Books are wonderful things. I assume you are here too for your wands?" Harry didn't answer, so instead Tom did. "Yes, mister…?"
"Dumbledore." He said.
"Wonderful things, hmm." Dumbledore stared with his twinkling eyes at him which made Tom want to gouge out his eyes.
"Here mister Malfoy." Ollivander appeared and gave him the wand. Malfoy swallowed at the sound of his surname.
"Ah. Ollivander maybe it's better to call him something else. Malfoy doesn't suit, don't you think so? What about Cornelis? Draco Cornelis, hmm. Sounds good, don't you agree." It was clearly that Draco didn't like the muggle surname. Dumbledore could hardly blame him for it. He was raised with other ideals and Dumbledore hoped it would change.
"Yes it does." Draco agreed, half struggling. He carefully took the wand and tried some spell. It worked perfectly and he nodded to Ollivander this was the right one. He paid for it, took it gracefully and leapt to the exit. The professor and old man following him.
"Have a fine day. Oh." Dumbledore stopped momentarily, which also triggered Mcgonagall and Draco to do the same. "Mister Luciance, tomorrow you won't be alone anymore in your house. Mister Cornelis will join you." Harry stared at Draco with some doubt expressed on his face. Then he decided to walk to the other and held out a hand. Draco hesitated for a moment but accepted it eventually.
"Harry Luciance. Nice to meet you."
"Drace Mal- Cornelis. It's my pleasure." They shook and then the three figures left.
When Neville was sure they were gone, he was freaking out. "Are you crazy? Why would you be nice to a Malfoy –no- a no name git? He is a real slytherin!"
"Am I no real slytherin?" Harry asked innocently, with some hope.
"No I guess not. I wouldn't take a liking of a real slytherin. I've sworn not to be friends with real slytherins on my whole families grave."
"I'm sorry." Harry muttered softly. Neville's anger turned into relieved expression. "You couldn't have known it. You know, that you're sorry means your not a slytherin. The snakes would never apologize except if it benifitted them."
"Let's get a wand now, before it's too late." Neville turned around.
"Yes, I am no slytherin." Harry muttered, smiling invisibly evilly.
