Chapter 7 - Pain

"My legs. It hurts so much." Callie brushed the light blanked away looking down at Jim's uncontrollably shaking legs.

"Shhhh, it's okay. It's okay. It's just muscle spasms. It's okay. It will be over soon." Callie tried to calm him down while she got his legs in her hands, stretching them out professionally. How glad she was that she was going to be a doctor soon because so she knew what to do in a situation like this. Callie could feel that Jim was starting to relax after a few minutes looking at her with sweat all over his face.

"That was bad!", Jim said after a few seconds.

"Do you want me to get you something for the pain?"

"Yeah, I think I could really use that." Jim said struggling to sit up. He didn't want to feel this kind of pain ever again. His left leg was still shaking badly but the pain was slowly fading. "Here. Take two of these, they should help soon." Callie said handing Jim the pain medication before getting him a bottle of water.

"It's not stopping." Jim said pointing at his badly shaking leg.

"That's what Neal was talking about."

"I know. Callie you have to promise me something. When this happens in my whole body can you please give me something so I pass out or do whatever. I really didn't want to be completely responsive when my whole body is going through this hell."

"Okay."

"Promise me Callie."

"I promise." Callie said kissing Jim slowly. She hated to see him like this.

"I have to go to the bathroom but I am afraid I wouldn't make it."

"Do you want me to get you the Urin bottle?"

"You have a Urin bottle?"

"Of course. Jim I am a nurse I am used to things like that and I am just prepared."

"That's disgusting. I would never use this thing in front of you."

"I can wait outside."

"You defiantly know what I mean."

"I know. I will wake Jeff up to give me a hand."

"No! Callie please. He has to go to school tomorrow and really needs his rest."

"Jim it's no problem."

"No, just let us try. It couldn't be that difficult right?"

"After these spasms you just suffered…."

Jim tried to overhear Callie and tried to get up to his feet with only Callie's help. As soon as he was standing he tried to move but his legs gave way as soon as he lifted his right leg up. Jim hissed in pain while he crashed back to the bed.

"Damn it!" He cursed slapping his right hand hard on his leg. He was angry about the situation he was in. Angry because he couldn't even manage to get to the toilette on his own. "I will get Jeff." Callie said walking towards Jeff's bedroom. She could see and feel what Jim was going through and she felt sorry. Sorry for the fact that she couldn't do anything to help Jim in this situation.

"Jeff?", Callie said gently getting Jeff to look at her sleepy.

"Mom? Is everything okay?"

"No. You remember what we talked about as we where speaking of Jim's current condition?" "Yeah. What's going on? Is he alright?"

"He had spasms in his legs and needs to go to the bathroom. Can you give us a hand?"

"Of course." Jeff got out of his bed quickly and Callie felt sorry for him too. He was just a teenager it wasn't his part to take care of an adult but without him Callie had no chance to get Jim to the bathroom safely.

"Jim you okay?" Jeff asked as soon as he entered his mom's living room. For him it was difficult too to see Jim like that. He had always been like a father to him, sometimes even like a big brother. He was the cool and smart detective and an adult Jeff had always been looking up to. Seeing Jim like that made him sad but nonetheless it wasn't a question if he was going to help Jim in his situation, it never had been. As soon as his mother had told him what was going on Jeff knew that Jim needed their help now and he was more than willing to help him like he had always helped him during his bumpy way of growing up with a single, full time working mum.

"I am sorry Jeff."

"You don't have to be! You're just buying the tickets to the next game."

"Hey I am always buying the tickets."

"See?" Jeff said smiling and Callie felt proud immediately. He was handling this situation so well even if it was maybe awkward for him too.
"Okay, on the count of three." Callie said before counting down and getting Jim back up. Together they made it to the bathroom painfully slow and Jim was more than relieved as he was lying back in beg after what had felt like an eternity.

"Should I stay home tomorrow? I mean you will need my help." Jeff said as he got out of the bedroom together with his mom.

"No way. You are going to school. I will figure something out. Maybe it's a lot better tomorrow." Callie said even if she knew that Jim was properly going to spend the whole next day in bed due to the pain the muscle spasms had caused him. Still his legs where slightly shaking and Callie knew that it could last for a few more days.

As she got back to the bedroom she could see that Jim was asleep. She gently brushed her hand over his cheek praying that he would feel better tomorrow.

As Jim awoke in the morning his legs felt like they where on fire. He moved his food just a little and hissed in pain. How could something hurt that much? He turned his head and exhaled deeply. How could his vision get worse every day even if he had thought the day before that it wouldn't be possible? As Callie entered the bedroom Jim couldn't even make her out anymore. He knew that he was near to losing his sight completely today.

"Hey you are awake." Callie said spotting the sad look in Jim's eyes.

"Yeah what a night."

"How are your legs?

"On fire but at least they stopped shaking."

"And how is your vision today."

"Let's not talk about that."

"Jim you promised me to be honest. You know that I need to know." Jim exhaled deeply.

"It's really bad Call. I can't even see you standing there." Jim said while Callie made her way towards Jim's side kissing his cheek.

"Then I will have to spent the day right in front of you, or right beside you. Whatever you want." Callie said getting Jim to smile again. How much he loved her.
