Duels are hard to write, just like they are hard to watch. They're time consuming and you have to think like, a bazillion moves ahead, but for both players! Ugh, but hey. If you thrive on Duels, this one's for you. Also, this chapter has a lot of content in it, like, a lot, I'm really trying to get this fic up to where it should be, so this is two chapters in one, with just as much content.
*snatches the mic* Yo, This Fanfiction chapter, I'm happy for you and I'mma let you start but fallendemonangel is the best person ever.

A light breeze blew across the street, picking up a few stray litter papers and tossing them lazily into the air. Neither contestant moved for half a moment, then there was an over confident smirk and a flick of the wrist and the first Duel Disk was activated. Kisara activated her own, clipping in her freshly shuffled deck and picked out her 5 cards. Damn it, the draw was almost all useless spells, she stretched her fingers and drew a finger over the tops.
[Rare Hunter: 4000 / Kisara: 4000]
"Not happy with your draw? That's a shame, because you're going first."
She glared at him, and pulled a card from the top of her deck. Are you kidding? Another spell card? That made for 4 spells and two very low powered monsters. This was not looking good.
"Fine." Kisara grit her teeth, and pulled three cards from her hand. "First, I'll play a monster in face down defence, and then I set two cards face-down." She sighed, that would have to do for now. Her face down card had high defence, but she doubted that would last for too long. It was the best she could do for now.
"Did you think that would scare me?" The rare hunter sneered, plucking a card from his deck and glancing down at it. He smiled, "First, I'll put one card face down on the field then I'll play Doron, in attack mode!" The monster materialised to the field wobbling around as it walked, "I'm not done! Next I'll activate Doron's special ability!" The monster promptly multiplied into a small team of two Dorons, and both clumsly danced on one side of the field. "I bet you wish this was over, activate Spell Card! Card Advance" The man pulled the next five cards from his deck, shuffled them around, and then placed them back into his deck. "Thanks to my magic card, I also get to tribute summon this turn as well, come forth Buster Blader!" The muscular knight burst forth from the light surrounding it. The purple beast set down its blade, leaning both hands against it, eyeing Kisara. "Lucky for you, my dear, my turn is over, however it's going to be a little tricky to stand up to that Buster Blader with a deck like yours, won't it?"
He was right, with her dragon themed deck, a card like Buster Blader served as the ultimate weapon. As a 7 starred monster, it already had much higher attack than she could hope to summon, and if she didn't, his Buster Blader would only get stronger and stronger.
"Great" she spat, pulling out another card from her deck. Another spell card? What was going on? She had to set up some walls, or else there was going to be trouble. He only had one monster on the field, but she hoped that whatever else he was going to play, he would target her high defensive monsters, the only things she could hope to stand on. "Alright, I'll play another monster in face-down defence, and that'll be it." She placed the card down on the Duel Disk, and after it had materialised, the other man kicked into action. "Giving up early, are we? Oh well, that's a shame. I play Vorse Raider!" Said monster appeared beside his knightly counterpart and grinned at Kisara devilishly, locking onto the pitiful wall she had set up on the field. "I know a bluff when I see one, darling, and those two face-downs are none of my concern. Buster Blader! Attack the face down card on the left, and Worse Raider, you attack the one on the right!" Perfect, in this way, sure her face down spellcaster monster was destroyed, but the dragon card was spared, perfect for her to deliver the first damages of the game.
"Tough luck!" Kisara smirked, as Buster Blader sliced through the holographic card on her right, causing the Aqua Madoor to groan and shatter into little light shards. "What do you mean? Your monster is destroyed!" Kisara's grin grew wider.
"Yeah one of them, you're right."
As the Vorse Raider sprung into battle it was quickly whipped into a flamy hurricane by the Flamvell Guard, who was revealed from the face down. The dragon stood rock solid, staring down at the Vorse Raider who was thrown back to his side of the field. "What a pity" giggled Kisara, as the life counter went down on her opponents Duel Disk. "I guess I claim the first blood of the game?"
"In the form of 100 Life Points? Don't flatter yourself. Don't forget either, my Buster Blader gains 500 attack points."
[Rare Hunter: 3900 / Kisara: 4000]
"Are you done, then?" Kisara asked, playfully smiling in the direction of her opponent.
"Just one more facedown," he set the card into place, "Be my guest."
"Thank you!" The sarcasm dripped from her words like honey. She pulled a card from her deck. Aha! Her signature card was here and now it was time to start the show! She looked down at all the spell cards from earlier in the duel, yes! Now this was something she could work with.
"I'll start off the duel by playing a couple of spells, if you don't mind. First, reveal face down spell! Stamping Destruction!" She pushed in the button at the top of her Duel Disk, activating her hidden card. I target the trap card on the left!" On her command, Flamvell Guard surged forward, past Buster Blader and then slammed down hard onto the facedown, causing it to shatter. Swords of Revealing Light! Yes! Now he wouldn't be able to block her attacks.
[Rare Hunter: 3400 / Kisara: 4000]
"And for my next trick, I play: Soul Exchange!" She placed the card down on her Duel Disk, causing it's holographic counterpart to materialise on the field. "I'll sacrifice my Flamvell Guard and your Buster Blader to summon my very favourite monster! Guess who?"
The rare hunter gritted his teeth as the Blue-Eyes White Dragon sprung forth from the tendrils of light holding it inside the card. The man had nothing on his side of the field to protect himself. Oh, this was going to be very good.
"I attack your Vorse Raider! Go Blue-Eyes!"
The rare hunter grinned, and pushed down the button on his Duel Disk. "Was my poker face too good? Reveal trap card, Widespread Ruin!" A rain of fire flew down upon the white dragon, who managed to dodge a few pieces of raining debris, but in the end was clipped on the wing and brought down. Kisara felt a twinge in her shoulder, a slight searing pain. She shrugged it off, all par for the course. The Blue-Eyes disappeared from the field.
While she was no longer in possession of any advantage, she was certainly not at a disadvantage either, as both players were back to square one. She supposed it wouldn't be for long though, but whatever damage he did with his next monster, wouldn't be substantial enough to stand up to the barrage of her cards.
"What a shame you didn't pick right huh? Oh well. I suppose it's my turn, if you don't mind."
"Not at all."
As far as Kisara was concerned, she had the upper hand. Sure, the most powerful monster in both of their decks was now gone, but she had plenty more to work with, and knowing the rare hunters like she thought she did, they would build their whole decks around summoning their most powerful monsters.
Or keeping them on the field.
Oh no.
"Looks like you're back to square one, but I'll be replaying myself right back to when I was on top of the game. Let me reintroduce you to my friend: Activate Spirit Ritual! By sacrificing one of my monsters, I can bring any card I like back from the grave, you don't need to be a rocket scientist to guess which one is coming back for you."
Buster Blader climbed from the grave back onto the field, brushing a bit of dirt from himself. Vorse Raider looked to the newly emerged Buster Blader and then shook, loosing his balance as a clawed hand sprung from the ground and dragged him below the soil. Buster Blader reclaimed his sword from the dusty heap of dirt he had just emerged from, and held it in both hands, glaring at Kisara for what she had done the previous turn. "Not only is my Buster Blader back to play, but he also gets a power boost, curtesy of your Blue-Eyes White Dragon." Buster Blader's attack was now a staggering 3600, that was certainly going to leave a mark. "I hear this new technology can knock the breath out of you, let's see how bad it really is, eh?"
Kisara shivered, with no monsters or cards to defend herself, this was going to be devastating, and what's worse, she wouldn't be able to rejuvenate herself next turn.
"Buster Blader! Take her down!" Buster Blader rushed at her, drawing his sword back behind his head and then slamming it down into her chest with all his force. The hologram itself passed straight through her with no harm, but the adrenaline caused by the monster rushing at her did cause her to involuntarily stiffen and hold her breath, causing her to pant a little after the attack was over. "I sure hope it doesn't hurt, because next turn, it'll be coming again."
[Rare Hunter: 3400 / Kisara: 400]
The man was right, if she couldn't shape up in the next turn, there was bound to be complications, and the most minor of such would be losing the duel. Kisara thought about her friends, they were going to be kidnapped, she couldn't let that happen. She pleaded in her head for something to save her, just one card was all she needed…
She shut her eyes, and pulled out the card, glanced at it, and then down past a very menacing and powerful Buster Blader, and into the face of her opponent. She let that smirk play right onto her face. "Looks like I've won back my luck with the cards, friend. I play Reborn the Monster!" The Blue-Eyes sprang back to the field, and roared into the sky, staring down at Buster Blader "Since you were too busy celebrating your early victory, you've set no traps or spells, so nothing you have can stop my next three cards. First I play: One For One! It allows me to play a level one monster from my deck as long as I give up a monster from my hand. So I play, The White Stone of Legend, in exchange for my Dragon Dwelling in the cave. I see that makes your Buster Blader a little stronger! I'm glad! Next card: Energy Swap! This card allows me to swap the attack power of my monster with a monster on your side of the field. Though it's a tough choice, I'm going to have to go with your Buster Blader."
A glow surrounded Buster Blader and the Blue-Eyes White Dragon, and the Attack Points of each monster was transplanted into the other.
"That doesn't matter, your Blue-Eyes may have 5600 attack points, but my Buster Blader still has 3000, and your card will wear off in one turn, it's not enough."
"Patience, please, I said three, didn't I? I activate my face down card, you know, the one that I've had on the field since the very first turn?"
She pointed down at the card on the field, and then hit the corresponding button on her Duel Disk. The card flipped up, revealing the Shrink magic card. The rare hunter paled, as the Buster Blader was shrunken down to size. "Oh, I love a happy ending, don't you? Crush him, Blue-Eyes." The Blue-Eyes locked onto its target, the miniscule remains of what was the once mighty Buster Blader, and charged its lightning attack. Just as the knight made to lunge with whatever strength it still held, the Blue-Eyes cut it off, roasting it with a white lightning strike.
[Rare Hunter: 0 / Kisara: 400]
The rare hunter slumped forward, falling to his knees. Kisara ran through the field, nodding at her disappearing Blue-Eyes White Dragon who roared triumphantly, and held the collar of her opponent so that he didn't fall face forward into the ground.
"Hey! Tell me where my friends are, you-!"
"Well aren't you an interesting character, Kisara, I didn't expect you."
"What?"
Kisara was taken aback, this wasn't the voice of the man she had just duelled, and how did he know her name?
"It is Kisara right? I assume so, you look just like her."
Kisara was weirded out, looked just like who? What exactly was going on here? "I'll let you in on a little information, since you look so confused. I am Marik, leader of the rare hunters, you are Kisara, a girl who is in the way of our goal. Your exact roll in this I'm not sure yet, but you won't stand a chance either way. I'd love to stay and chat, but you should probably head to the aquarium where your friends are, or were, provided you're not too late of course."
Kisara gritted her teeth, and let the man fall forward onto his face, maybe if she wasn't too late she could still find them and intercept them before they were stowed away. Not that she doubted Jou's fighting prowess, but if there was enough of them, they might get swamped.
Kisara didn't exactly know where the aquarium was, but with the maps around town, and the minimap on her phone, at least she was headed in the right general direction. The aquarium was a big building, she doubted she would miss it if she was within the vicinity. Her legs burned. She was out of breath, but her friends were in danger. God dammit! If only Yuugi carried around a phone! Then she could at least get his help. She wondered how he was doing, she hadn't seen him, and had only heard of his first match. Perhaps he already knew and was searching himself. She slowed down to a walk, she had to have a tactical approach. There were so many ways in and out of the aquarium, the ghouls could choose any path. She was several blocks away, and the street she was on was fairly busy, they wouldn't pick a street like this to kidnap her friends in the light of day, would they?
No, she moved over a few streets to one less crowded, a multi-floored super store stood on the left hand side. She looked up, would that be a good vantage point to survey the city, maybe? As she looked however, she saw two robed figures. Were they stalking her? No, she looked back to the street, and found the more obvious targets. Were they going to Kidnap Yuugi and Kaiba? That seemed a bit extreme, and she was pretty sure Kaiba would be protected to the nines, what were they looking for? Was that helicopter beating she could hear in the distance? She started down the street, walking briskly toward the rival duo, hoping to warn them without causing too much attention, in case the two robed men hadn't noticed her yet. She was almost within their distance to notice, and was about to call out to them, when the smaller, stouter robed man pounced down from the building. Kisara ducked away, god-damn. She was too late. The helicopter beating grew closer, almost to deafeningly loud. That couldn't be right, a helicopter wouldn't be able to fly this low with high rise buildings around, could it? "Big Brother!" Kisara ducked her head out from behind the building.
Her body filled with rage, were they dangling a little kid from that helicopter? He looked like he was going to be sick, and was already pale with fear. She didn't care who these people thought they were, preying on children was Kisara's sore spot, and every inch of her burned to deal with it. "If you want to see your friends again, Yuugi, or your brother Kaiba, you'll duel with us at the top of that building right now." The helicopter dangling the child flew off into the distance as Kaiba and Yuugi ran to the building. Blackmail? Wonderful. These rare hunters were playing a very dangerous game, with very dangerous people. She hadn't the time to decide what to do, she ran to keep the helicopter in sight, keeping in areas where the skyline was as clear as possible. They had pulled the young boy back into the helicopter, and were heading towards the outskirts of the city. Kisara ran to the edge of the street, and down toward the general direction the helicopter was landing in. Chances were, they were taking Kaiba's brother the same place as Yuugi's friends, and if given the opportunity, she would save them all.
Kisara moved silently around the dockyard, after locating the landed helicopter, she was now searching the buildings. They couldn't have gone too far, that kid was a Kaiba, and there was no doubt he would go with anyone quietly. She looked through windows and stalked abandoned warehouses. She heard doors slamming open in a nearby ground level window, and crouched down to look through it. Oh yes, she was indeed right, the little Kaiba had a fierce tongue, and was that Anzu in there? Kisara waited until the door was closed and locked, before rattling the window. Bingo, it was unlocked. She pulled the window until it jammed at fully open and leaned her head inside.
"Anzu?"
"Eve!"
Anzu moved to the wall and looked up at her friend with relief. Finally a familiar face! The young boy also joined Anzu's side and looked up at the window, to see Kisara leaning through it.
"I'm gonna find a way to get you out of there, did they only take you Anzu?"
"No, Jounochi is in here somewhere."
"He's not with you?"
"No."
Dammit, that was a bit of a complication. Kisara looked around the room that Anzu and the younger Kaiba were being held in, it was large, with a high ceiling and lots of card-board boxes lying around. The boxes were all opened and empty. Kisara looked around at the dockyard. There was nothing around that could serve as a ladder, or a rope, that was obtainable in a short amount of time. So, despite doubting the structural integrity of empty cardboard boxes to support the weight of a teenager and a boy, Kisara figure that was the only way out. Anzu, being a clever and resourceful girl, had come to the same conclusion, and was stacking the boxes into a tower to climb. Kisara kept watch on the dock while they climbed, in case there would be any compromises in their escape plan after they were freed. When Kisara put her head back in, Anzu and the boy had almost made it to the top. Kisara stretched out her hand to take the boy's when all of a sudden the door in the room flew open and the box tower came tumbling down. Kisara leaned her body through the opening of the window and caught the boy as he fell, but Anzu had been too far away and had fallen down. "Go! Take Mokuba and tell Kaiba and Yuugi where we are!" She shouted up at her. Kisara nodded, panicking slightly, and pulled Mokuba up through the window.
"I'll rescue you too Anzu, just hold on!"
Kisara backed away from the window, and guided Mokuba towards a group of shipping crates. They wedged between them and hid, taking deep breaths to calm themselves. "Are you okay... Mokuba?" Kisara questioned hesitantly, unsure if that was the name of the boy. The boy answered quite normally, dispelling all of Kisara's fears.
"I'm fine thanks, your name is Eve?"
"Yeah, that's right."
"Thank you very much, Eve."
She smiled at him. Despite being a Kaiba, the boy held none of the qualities she attributed to the Kaiba name, instead seeming kind and polite. She liked him, she wasn't sure if it was because he was a friendly young man, a screw the rules to his namesake stereotype, or whether it was just because he reminded her so much of her own little brother.
"Mokuba, your brother is on top of the big glass super store in Western Domino, do you know the one that I am talking about?"
Mokuba nodded.
"You should go there and tell Yuugi and Kaiba where Anzu and Jou are, I'm going to try and rescue them. You might want to call your security or something... Here's my phone. I'll draw the attention from you and you go straight to a place with a lot of people and you go get them, okay?"
"Deal." He nodded his head and smiled, but then straightened his face.
"Kick ass, kid." Kisara added, winking at him and nodding toward a clear path, away from where a group of ghouls had just gone. Kisara snuck around to another group of shipping containers on the far side of the dockyard. She craned her neck to make sure Mokuba was far enough away, and when she was perfectly sure, she moved out of her hiding place, kicking a rock loudly.
"Ugh, run Mokuba!" She yelled to the shipping containers she had just emerged from, causing two ghouls to whip around. One sprinted off into the shipping containers, while the other advanced toward her. She backed away a few steps at a time, before sprinting in the complete opposite direction, back toward the warehouse. She dodged around the random beams and palettes littering the ground before turning into the open doorway and slamming the door right on the ghoul's fingers. He shrieked and withdrew his hand, providing her with an opportunity to slam and lock the door.
She sighed and panted, leaning heavily against the door frame. Good gracious, all that running had really tired her out.
"Did you really think it was going to be easy?"
Dammit.
She turned around to see a ghoul descending the stairway, his purple robe flowing around him like shadowy mist through the air. His blonde hair flowed all the way to his shoulders, and his glowing white smile emanated from the shadow clouding his upper face. At some point during his descent, he had activated his Duel Disk, for it glowed in the darkness. A beam of light from a far window lit his face for a single moment, revealing a tiny crescent shaped scar beneath his eye. His whole visage seemed oddly familiar, but way back and buried in a distant memory, she shook her head. She didn't have time for a duel, she had to save her friends.
"Listen, we'll have to make this quick, I have a schedule to meet."
"Oh don't worry Kissy I have every intention of making this quick."
Her stomach backflipped, what the hell did he just call her. Her whole body quivered internally. How the hell?
"How do you know that name."
"Oh don't worry Bluey, all will be revealed."
Kisara had no choice. The silence was dead, her heart was in her throat and her stomach had turned to ice. Memories surfaced in the fore-front of her mind, but none of them were filled with this man. She knew him, she knew, she knew him. Her Duel Disk activated, if this guy wanted to play mind games, then game on.
I wrote this chapter a while ago, but it was my birthday a few days ago and I was too busy procrastinating with my new toys to post it XD (I just realised what I said, and there was no innuendo intended, I promise). As aforementioned, I loathe writing duels, they are hard and long and I just feel that they're boring? So I'll try to skip over them as much as possible, if you don't mind. But I don't know, you might like duels, and if so you should let me know. I don't mind writing anything that will make you happy. This story is as much for you as it is for me, so please let me know what you think, be it good or bad.
Seeyas soon I hope!
