Chapter 7

Miaka's Aimless Heart

I held Miaka's hand, waiting for her to wake up. All this stress was getting to her way too fast, and we both really needed to go back home. Especially since the fight with Miaka's mom and how both of our tests were coming up. I glanced over at Tamahome and Hotohori, watching them argue about what happened. I sighed and tuned them out, looking at Miaka. I do hoped that she would wake up soon.

I needed to get her home.

None of this stress was doing well for her, and while we were on the subject, I didn't need this stress either. Watching over Miaka was harder than I thought. I sighed. No matter, she's worth watching over.

She was always worth watching over. Her and Yui. I faded out of the conversation, remembering our fun times where we would just relax, no matter how much we studied for the tests.

"Mo-Mom..." Silence descended upon us. "Kei...suke..." I grew sad. She missed her family, she missed her home. I held her hand tightly in mine, not wanting her to forget that she was not alone in all of this confusion. "Yui..." Hotohori ordered everyone into his chambers, but seemed to hesitate at me leaving her alone.

"I'm not leaving." I said, glaring at him, daring him to take me away. As they all left, Miaka started listing off her favorite foods.

"Unbelievable." Nuriko said, giving Miaka this look of 'really?' I giggled, glad that Miaka was still the same. She left, leaving the two of us alone. "Don't change Miaka." I said, dreading the events that were to happen. "Don't ever change."

I felt tears run down my face. My hands showed me that, yes, these were tears. I finally broke down, not able to hold back the stress anymore.

Thankfully, Miaka did not see me cry; she woke up shortly after my break-down. "Hey, Miaka." Her eyes flashed up to meet mine, and I smiled, trying to comfort her a bit. "You okay?" She looked at me silently, then her green eyes glittered silently. Then she started to cry. I crawled up onto the bed and held her, petting her hair and telling her that it would be alright.

"I want to go home." I continued petting her hair, knowing that she needed this. "I miss Mom, I miss Keisuke, I miss Yui, I miss the food." Sobs racked her body. "What are we supposed to do?!"

I pulled her away so she can face me. I wiped away her tears and smiled sadly. "Knowing Hotohori, he'll find a way." I laid a kiss on her forehead. "He doesn't like seeing you in pain, Miaka." She nodded and thanked me, wiping her tears away.

It was at that moment that Hotohori walked in. "Miaka, Igneous?" We both looked up. "How are you feeling?"

"A little dizzy, but fine." I nodded as my way of saying that I was fine. No crying in front of the emperor for me, thank you very much!

He smiled. "Well, we found a way for you two to return home."

"Really?!" Miaka was shocked; I told her so!

"Yes, we must go to where Tai Yi-Jun dwells. The seven constellations and the two priestesses must reach the mountain of Daichi-san by their own devices. The journey will be long, but I will be by your sides, as will Tamahome and Nuriko." I smirked, remembering that Nuriko was male, not female. That seems to give me amusement every time I thought of it. "We will certainly arrive safely."

I was happy, but of course, Miaka had to go and be a damn saint. "B-but, I thought your kingdom needed us! We were supposed to find the seven..."

"No," Hotohori interrupted, a sad look on his face. "Your well being comes first." He laid a hand across Miaka's cheek. "Forgive me; I placed too many demands on the two of you." I could practically squeal from how cute the two of them were. Hotohori so obviously had a crush on Miaka. "However, please promise me one thing... When you are both recovered, please return here." His request was understandable; the emperor had his people to take care of and a kingdom that needed saving.

I nodded my consent, then stood up, letting the two have their moment. I stepped outside and saw Tamahome walk down the hallway. I guess he was listening in. I don't blame him; Miaka worried all of us, but...

"Hey, Tamahome..." He turned and looked at me weirdly. I linked arms with him and smirked evilly.

"You and I... Need to have a little talk."

Tamahome's POV

Honestly, he was scared of the red head. He remembered her as mainly threatening anyone that hurt Miaka. Tamahome admired that about Igneous, but she was still scary. For instance, when said red-head slammed him against the wall and give him her most evil glare, one would believe that he was justified in being terrified.

"Now you listen to me, and you listen well, because I am only going to say this once." She leaned in close, blue eyes flashing demonically. "You cause Miaka anymore heartbreak because you can't seem to think, I will hurt you in ways you have never been hurt." She growled. "Because of you, she can't seem to stand on her own and keeps getting hurt because. Of. You." A shiver raced down Tamahome's spine. Was this what that saying meant? Fear a wrath of a woman scorned? Ugh, he didn't want to be in this situation.

"Do you understand me?" He nodded quickly, wanting to get out of this as quickly as possible. Her wrath was one that needed to be feared.

And just like that, Igneous went from crazy demon woman to perky young lady. "Good." She then proceeded to drop him onto the floor. Tamahome took in deep breaths just to steady his heartbreak. "I hope that you do understand, Tamahome." He looked up to see a sad look on her face. "You make her happy, and I don't want to see her shattered because of your stupidity." She then glared and walked away. "Watch where you step from now on, Tamahome."

Another shiver. That was a silent threat that was completely understood.

As Tamahome stood, he sighed and tried not to think about Miaka going away forever.

Then, something blunt and big hit him in the back of the head, causing him to fall down and moan over the brand new headache that he required.

"You idiot!" Wait, wasn't that Nuriko? "Quit playing the tragic hero! It's your fault for dumping Miaka anyways!" We were never together in the first place!

"Leave me alone! What's it got to do with you anyways?"

"EVERYTHING!" Nuriko grabbed Tamamhome and dragged him closer. "At this rate, his majesty would be even more infatuated with the twit! I can not let that happen!" Tamahome only stood there in silent wonder in how this woman's mind worked. "So you are going to apologize to Miaka while we are on the road and I shall make his majesty mine! My plan is brilliant!"

"Who died and made you boss?" Tamahome muttered.

"Be a man and take responsibility for her condition!" Nuriko jabbed a finger in Tamahome's direction. "Your jealousy of the emperor is pathetic! Stop acting like a woman!" A distant echo of laughter that was familiar reached the two, succeeding Nuriko in pissing her off even further.

"Shaddup! I was going to apologize to her anyways; I don't need you to lecture me! And I was never jealous of the emperor anyways!" His mind hissed that he was so jealous, but Tamahome shoved it into the deepest part of his subconscious, trying to will Nuriko to go away.

He didn't need her after his ass when he already had a pissed off red-head going after him.

End of POV

Three Days Later

"Are you alright, Miaka? I mean, you did just get off of being sick." I was worried for my friend. She didn't seem all that well, but the dunce was determined to go home. I sighed as she only protested to my mothering. We walked in on Hotohori arguing with his counsel about going without guards. I smirked.

'Please, if I can kick all of their asses, I am good enough to count as a guard.' Of course, that's me being egotistical.

When we got outside, of course, the first thing that Miaka sees is Tamahome. A few seconds of silence before they both turn away from each other. I could see Nuriko fuming about this too. Ugh, if they would just get together, Miaka would be a hell of a lot happier and I don't have to kick his ass.

I was then given a cloak. "It's just to hide you until we're outside of the city." I nodded at the man who gave it to me and wrapped it around myself. Nuriko then rode up next to me and held out a hand. "You are to ride with me." He muttered, glaring off to the side. I paused; I didn't really want to ride with him (he's caused enough trouble with Miaka), but I guess I had no choice.

Besides, I couldn't go on here forever with no friends other than Miaka and possibly Yui. I nodded and grabbed his hand, not really all that surprised when he lifted me easily. I settled myself in front of him and sat up straight, petting the mane of the horse. We followed after Hotohori, who told his council to look after the city while he was gone.

"I've never ridden a horse before." Miaka said up ahead from me.

"Is that so?" Hotohori inquired. "I'm glad that you are well enough as it is." I shot up and glared at the emperor's back. Her fever has barely gone down! Ugh, that girl is more stubborn than an American would be. Then silence descended upon us. I decided that this was the perfect time to actually get to know the three men around us, but Miaka had to come in... with a joke.

"I'd talk about the ride, but I'm feeling a bit horse!" I snickered, glad that Miaka was well enough to even joke at this time. She just gets stranger and stranger as the day goes on.

"Hey, it's getting dark, we'll stop here and camp for the night. We have no choice." As soon as we set up camp, Tamahome was out like a light, snoring away his worries. Hotohori sat next to him, also sleeping lightly. I looked around, having unrolled my own sleeping bag, hoping to find Miaka and talk to her about her fever. I saw her leaning against a tree. I relaxed, glad that she was in my sight. As soon as I started to head over there, Nuriko popped up behind Miaka.

He whispered something to her that made Miaka smile and head off, waving in thanks to the poor guy. Nuriko then waved me over and pointed to Tamahome, explaining his plan.

Personally, it was a good idea if I didn't know Miaka so well, but hey, anything to get over this awkward thing that was going on between the two. That, and the way Nuriko planned to wake Tamahome up was down right hilarious.

He dragged him half-way across the clearing just to tell him the 'message from Miaka.' I laughed quietly, immensely enjoying this. We both watched him go, muttering about psychotic women or something. "Good job," I told him. He smirked and flipped some hair over his shoulder.

He was so born a female in a male's body.

"Now, quick question." I smiled innocently as he looked at me. "Is there really a spring nearby?" I think he got my message because Nuriko quickly nodded and pointed me in the direction. "Good, now you are coming with me." I proceeded to drag him with me. "And you are not getting out of it, stupid male." I shot towards him, making him concede defeat to my demands.

"Hey, Yui, you alright?" Yui was wincing as she rubbed her shoulder and tried to fight the headache invading her head.

"Y-yeah I think so. I've had a headache and some aches for a while."

Keisuke sighed. "Look, Mom and I will find them. You should go home, your exams are coming up, and you should take care of yourself." He ran a hand through his blonde hair and looked up at the huge library. "The library closed a while ago. I'll look in some other places."

"No! Miaka and Igneous are my friends! I can't rest until I find them." Then, Yui's headache left, leaving her head feeling clear and better than it has been for a while. 'The headache... the blood... the aches... Are they connected to Miaka and Igneous?'

I watched as Tamahome jumped in to attack the thing that frightened Miaka. I severely wanted to attack the asshole, but Nuriko held me back. Bastard... I really wanted to rip both their throats out.

Then Tamahome jumped up and then they finally started to have a semi-normal conversation! For once... then it got silent. I think the idiot finally realized that Miaka was naked.

They turned from each other, a raging blush on their faces. Then suddenly, they both turned to each other and Tamahome apologized. I smirked, glad that Nuriko's plan at least semi-worked. "Ah, look, they made up." I gushed. Nuriko quietly chuckled and settled down some more.

A creak. We both looked down at the branch that we were sitting on, only to see a little crack in it's holding us up. "Well, shit."

We both fell down next to the spring that was Miaka.

I was too busy nursing my shoulder to be any type of smooth. Of course, Nuriko could always be smooth. "Well, damn, thought he would have taken advantage of you. Guess he's too much of an amateur to do so." He promptly received a smack in the head from me at that while Miaka essentially freaked out.

Then she did one of the funniest things that I have yet to see.

Miaka hugged Nuriko... naked. Nuriko kept trying to get her off of him, which only succeeded in getting his robes undone, showing Miaka his true gender. Which is quite hilarious! I could not stop laughing. Nuriko tried to laugh it off, which slightly succeeded since Miaka was very confused.

He then went off about love transcending everything. I think he would fit in very well in our time for his ideals.
