Hey everyone! Sorry it's been a while. I'm really trying here, between my new social I'm finally forming and school. Many apologies.
Sayasenju: Sorry I updated a day later than what I told you. My boyfriend visited from downstate yesterday and he came up pretty early and left late so I didn't really have time.
SpawnOfSatan: Here's an update once more and I have to say I love the name.
Here we are then, chapter seven.
On The Inside
Hidan scratched his head roughly, violet eyes trained on the event transpiring between the two Uchihas. He had completely lost any idea of understanding the situation after they had activated their sharigan. Not only that, but the sight of seeing Itachi Uchiha, murderer of his own clan and rogue of the Leaf, crying and holding a woman to his chest had him questioning his view on reality. The two seemed close, and they'd obviously recognized one another, that much he could deduce. The rest of it however had him drawing a blank. "The hell is going on here?"
Naturally Kakuzu facepalmed at his partner's idiocy. Could he not use the simplest of observation skills? "Damn it Hidan they're siblings," he groans, running a hand over his face.
"Huh?!" The silver haired priest was getting hard-ons for the Uchiha's sister?! Sure she had that same coal black hair and onyx eyes but she was shades paler than him and had a rocking hot body! No way she was related to the emotionless genjutsu master! Well, normally emotionless... "How in the hell...? No fucking way!" Another silver haired male fell right into the conversation, using all his concentration not to feel sorrow for his dear friend...
"Is he always this annoyingly dense?" he asks with an irritated look, releasing the jutsu on himself that locked away his chakra. With a grunt Kakuzu nods.
"Unfortunately."
"Hey!" The priest jumped at the insult. "I'm just racking my brain here at the fact that the Uchiha brat has a sister!"
"What brain you zealot?" At this Shin chuckles, crossing his arms in a mirror of the larger brunette. Great! They were tag teaming him now! The last thing he needed at this point!
Then there was Deidara. He was watching the scene with calculating eyes as well, his icy orbs falling on the raven haired beauty that clung to her long lost brother. She was so beautiful, so kind, so...filled with emotion and consideration. He was having trouble seeing the relation too. And then there was his hatred of the older Uchiha that had tricked him into the Akatsuki. Knowing just who he was made him all the more reluctant to accept his status to the girl his age. He had hoped to make the fiery female the subject of some very explosive 'art', a chance at something that wasn't completely centered around his affiliation to the organization. Now even that small dream would be crushed thanks to the same man. He could just feel his anger bubbling within him. It was then that he noticed the silence among the rest of the members save for the two- er, three Zombie members now. Even Tobi was unusually silent. It was a bit off putting to say the least. As much as he knew he'd regret it...
"You're awfully quiet Tobi, hn." The blonde immediately braced himself for the barrage that would follow his comment. Somehow though, it didn't come. "Tobi, hn?" Still nothing. The childish man's one eye was transfixed on the girl in what seemed to be a studying way, as if he was putting the pieces of some imaginary puzzle together. This wasn't anything like the Tobi he knew... "Yo, Tobi!" All at once the ebony haired man slowly turned to him, as if he hadn't yelled at all. He blinked once, twice, three times.
"Senpai talking to Tobi?"
"OF COURSE I AM YOU IDIOT!" The male immediately jumped up and cowered behind the hulking shark man. Worry flooded him as the blonde pounced his way, intent on hurting the idiotic male.
"S-Sumi-Senpai!" he cried out mistakenly. Deidara was about to grab the man by the throat when a sai whizzed by his head taking a few strands of hair from his long bangs. He immediately froze and his body tensed up, his blue eyes looking surprised at the masked male in question. He however was surprised as well, tilting his head and peaking from under the blue man's arm. Both of them looked over at the woman Tobi had called for in his panic. She was still clinging to her brother's side but her arm was extended, confirming that she was the one to nearly take out Deidara. He was immediately embarrassed, his face turning beet red. To his relief however Sumara was blinking at the two as if she didn't understand their surprise, until she realized she had thrown her weapon at Deidara. Her own cheeks flushed at this and she buried her face in Itachi's cloak.
"I-I'm so sorry! I just...he called for me...it was instinct!" Itachi gave them both a warning glare as if to say that he would end whichever one made her feel more guilty. Honestly both of them had never seen him look so scary...even Kisame was impressed with the show of emotion he seemed to keep rolling out. He wasn't complaining though, he was glad his partner had something to hold onto now. He'd once thought it was cool how he'd destroyed his clan, then was disappointed when they'd first encountered his brother, but he soon realized Itachi needed some sort of emotion in his life. He was a bit put off that the lovely creature who had treated him as an idol was his partner's sister, but Itachi was the closest thing to a friend he had and he wouldn't betray his confidence by chasing after a sister he thought was dead...
All in all, many emotions were circulating throughout the members. Pein wasn't in the mood to watch it all transpire. The ginger cleared his throat, the only incentive his subordinates needed to silence, their expectant gazes finding the pierced man and awaiting his words. "Sumara." The jinchuriki separates hesitantly from her brother, turning to face the male and now her head respectfully.
"Sir?" The use of formalities showed she was serious.
"Despite the lack of a victor in this battle I'm willing to look past it and add you to this organization. On one condition however..."
"And that is?" She waited patiently.
"The guarantee that I can expect your full loyalty on account of being able to reunite with your brother." He planned to hold her to the organization with Itachi as her incentive to stay an obedient dog.
"Of course Leader." Shin visibly tensed at this, concern over their mission obviously weighing on his mind. She did not hesitate to answer in this manner though, as if this changed the mission entirely.
"Shin." He followed her example and took a respectful bow before the pierced ginger. "Congratulations to you both. Welcome to the Akatsuki."
"Sir." They salute simultaneously before straightening. With that Pein releases everyone and exits himself, Konan in pursuit. The blue haired woman took a moment to congratulate the girl herself with a smile before continuing on with her partner. Now with ten of the twelve current members gathered in the training arena, things were a bit awkward.
"Sumara..." The raven turned to her sibling, eyes filled with a desire to hear him speak to her. "I'd like to talk to you about what happened, if you don't mind." She shakes her head.
"Of course brother." He turned to exit as well, expecting her to follow him. She was about to when Shin grasped her wrist, sending her silent concern.
"Hey, are you gonna be okay?" She smiles softly at his mental inquiry, assuring him it's all fine.
"I'm alright Shin, don't worry so much okay? We'll talk later." He too nods, releasing her and earning a questioning glance from anyone who watched the silent exchange. She left with Itachi. Silence ensued, until...
"Ay Blondie!" The bomber felt himself giving a heavy sigh. He didn't feel like putting up with the Jashinist right now... He wanted to get back to his room to start on his next sculpture. "HEY! Come on I know you're thinking what I'm thinking!"
...
This piqued his interest... "What'd you have in mind, hn?"
Itachi embraced Sumara once again, without reserve this time. His strong arms enveloped her with a sense of belonging, his face nestling in her thick mane of ebony hair. She smelled of pine and camellias, a pleasant, earthy aroma. So different from the last time he'd seen her so long ago.
She returned this gesture, her slender frame curling into Itachi with determination and relief. The only family she had left that had cared for her, and she had them once more in her arms. He was so much taller than her now as opposed to that fateful day when they were nearly the same size. His face was so young, yet aged by stress and experience only known to someone who has seen tragedy...much like herself.
He had brought her to his room within his, Kisame, and Shin's living area. His door had been a red one, faded, much like his own personality. Within he had revealed his dwelling to be fairly plain aside from a large bookshelf that was filled to the brim. He also had a few small decorative lamps littering a back desk. Other than that, it was very bare...
"Itachi...I missed you," she murmurs.
"I know, I missed you too Sumara...You wouldn't believe the grief I went through in your absence. Each day was a struggle, only the thought of being there for Sasuke kept me going."
"How is he?" She had deduced that the last two of the Uchiha clan that were brothers had to be Itachi and Sasuke. If that were the case then where was he? And which one had been the cause of their clan's demise? Itachi was still in her arms and this made her fear the worst. He seemed conflicted to look her in the eye because each time she tried to look up at him he cradled her face in his cloak.
"I visit him from afar now and then...he has become, quite dark I'm afraid. He is under the tutelage of a very powerful ninja as of now, and he has..quite the hatred for me...so I don't seek him out much." Sumara noticed that he still wouldn't look at her, even as he moved back, still holding her at a distance. He was hiding something from her and she didn't like it.
"Itachi, I thought you were dead, I need to know. I need to know what happened after that day." She was stern, soft yet commanding, much like she used to be... By Jashin she wasn't going to go without learning the events that led her to reunite with her family. He still refused to even look her in the eye, saddening her more. "Please brother," she pleas. "Where's my twin?"
He sighed and very slowly looked up through the side of his bangs that framed his face, coal eyes dull and regretful. "Sumara, neither of your brothers are anything to be proud of anymore. We are both criminal missing ninja, I'd rather you not follow in our footsteps-"
"Damn it Itachi stop trying to push me away before I even know you!" His gaze softened upon seeing salty liquid spill from her shimmering orbs, his reluctancy to tell her everything she missed made her feel even more outcast than previously, he could see this now. He lifted a pale hand to her cheek, using his thumb to wipe away her tears gently.
"Please don't cry...that's the last thing I want..." She sniffles, fixing her gaze on their feet as he battles his better judgment. "Sumara, this story is not easy for me to tell... But because you have a right to know as an Uchiha, I will reveal to you the true demise of our clan, a truth not even Sasuke knows..."
She blinks up at him. Not even Sasuke knew?
...
...
Sumara heard him out and took each and every detail in, from the way he had dedicated himself to being a shinobi to protect their village, to his early mastery of the sharingan. He told her of how Sasuke felt so alone and was forced to live in his shadow forever after the war had changed her elder brother so... Everything from how he had to kill his best friend, dearest Shisui, just to obtain the mangekyo sharingan in order to exterminate their family, who had been planning a coup against the village. The only way to save his village, and poor Sasuke, was through the actions he took. His heart weighed heavy with grief, but Sumara had never been prouder.
She hugged him tightly from his bed, her entire being filled with pride. "Itachi, you did the right thing. It was the only way to protect what now shuns you as a murderer." She would have a discussion with Lady Tsunade upon the ending of this mission, this definitely changed things...
"Sumara..." he said. "Know that I took no pleasure in killing our clan, however tainted they had become.."
"I know." Before she could say anything else Itachi continued.
"Honestly I don't think I could've pulled it off if I hadn't thought of you. The way they had feared you, just an infant, a bit odd in physical terms, but so innocent. What they did to you that day Sumara...I never forgave our father for it. That ultimately gave me that strength to go through with it..." She thought about this, realizing just how much her brother truly cared for her... "Sumara, how did you survive the river?"
The question caught her off guard but she attempted to tell what she remembered. "It got dark. My chest was burning so hard and the water was so cold, I can remember wanting to cry and scream but the cold would invade my burning lungs. Then all at once my ears popped and my vision blurred, my body aches and then...nothing." She remembered that feeling all too well actually. "I remember just how black and void the world became, and for what felt like an eternity, I was trapped there in the cold. But despite that," she paused, "I eventually saw light, but it was faint and there was a silhouette in front of it. It took some time but my vision cleared enough to make out the person I saw. It was scary at first because he sat upon a throne of corpses, the seat made of bones. But the longer I looked at this strange man, the less I felt I had to fear. He wore a black robe, golden adornments riddling his body like some elegant god. His ringed hand held in its grasp a golden scythe, caked in blood. His features were pale and his hair blacker than any dark night as it brushed his features. His eyes, piercing with the color that coated his blade peered at me almost gently, curiously... And all the while, an almost skeletal apparition seemed to cling to him like a second skin, as if the bones themselves were a hologram over his body. The helmet upon his head, like that of a dragon's skull, seemed the most chilling about him..." Itachi's face fell slightly, not liking the way this was going. This hallucination didn't seem normal, nor did it seem plausible... But he let her continue. "I cowered before him but his eyes softened the longer they looked down at me. I wanted to run until...
"Sumara...Uchiha..." He spoke my name, slowly but surely. It was so smooth and commanding but so cool and soft, his very words made me want to bow to him. I could not yet speak, but I wanted to know why he knew me, where I was, and what happened. All of these things he seemed to sense. "Sumara, small flower, this was never meant to be. Your impending death was not in my plans for this world." He stood from his throne, lowering his weapon of death and making sure to approach me cautiously. Surprisingly I didn't shrink back, but even embraced his touch when he lay his hand upong my head. "Little one, Keeper, future Bringer of Balance, your time is not yet upon us. You must return, there is much I expect you to do." He smiled then, a sad yet caring smile that contrasted his barbaric appearance. And then he placed a kiss on my forehead, revealing to me his final words before I faded once more from his dark world. "I am Jashin child, Lord of Death as well as Life, one of which I return to you this day. Do not forget that which I have told you, and bring others to my light. Awaken little wolf..."
When I woke up I was wet and shivering, laying in cold grass on a riverbank in a place I had never laid eyes before. It was the dead of night and around my ankle was tied in a mangled mess a snapped rope, it's threads shredded at the end. I eventually found my nerves and wandered aimlessly for days until I reached the village again." If Itachi didn't believe her before he certainly gave her some credit now. Had she possibly died and seen the lord she now worshipped with the rosary adorning her neck? Only to be revived when the rock snapped from the rope and she drifted ashore? So much was unclear to the raven male, yet somehow it made sense.
"And when you reached Konoha?"
"By then I had grown even more, I was about the size of perhaps the average twelve year old, I had been surviving on trashable foods people had abandoned and was soon slinking around the streets to live. I still only had the developing consciousness of a baby, so I didn't understand much. I also didn't realize that a young girl alone like that in the open...attracted certain...'people'..." His heart dropped. No, not his sister...she couldn't have had to go through that... "It hurt, but, I didn't understand it at that age anyway... But that's how things were for almost six months. Then one day out of nowhere, he showed up..." Somehow, despite the horrendous actions Itachi had just heard her describe, a solemn smile spread over her lips. "He had the most beautiful silver hair and coal eyes filled with kindness and justice. He took one look at me, scooped me in his arms and took me home. He saved my life without thinking twice, feeding me hot meals and clothing me in the best kimonos he could get his hands on. He doctored me and understood that I was still a child at mind even though my body had matured. He knew by my injuries what I had went through and his angry and sad expression made me feel protected, his gentle smile warmed my heart. Not long after, I found he had a son training as a shinobi and that he was one as well. I trained in self defense with the two of them often, learning to act as an adult since I was already physically one. I advanced quickly though, reaching above the average intelligence of most and honing my abilities as a ninja. I spent almost a year with them before he sat me down one day and asked if I understood the concept of marriage..." Itachi gasped lightly, taking in his sister's blushing, smiling form. "I became a wife Itachi. Feeling as if I were this age back then and understanding such concepts I married him. I loved him like I have never loved anyone before..."
He was surprised when she stopped and frowned slightly. She had...had a husband? A stepson? A family apart from her clan? He was slightly envious and disappointed she did not go into further detail when he too frowned slightly.
"I'm sorry, I was so engrossed I didn't hear them..." he whispers. At this she nods with a slight, plotting smile. Before he can say anything else she stands.
"Watch this," she murmurs.
"Shut it mongrel!" Hidan whisper-shouts. The two silver haired men were pressing their ears against the pale red door, Hidan with his head above Shin's as the two maneuvered around the others with them. Kisame stood over everyone else naturally, Deidara was crouched beneath Shin and practically crawling on the ground was Tobi. Each male was on the edges of their toes, breathing quietly as they tried to catch a hint as to the topic of conversation on the other side of the door.
"Quit stepping on my damned foot then playboy!" the new addition replies in the same hushed voice. Each one of them was shoving for a position and honestly four of the five were more pissed than the other was. Hidan and Shin had made it clear they had a burning hatred of each other despite their shared dedication to their religion. Deidara already hated Hidan, Kisame wasnt a fan of him, all in all Hidan had them all pretty pissy. Tobi however seemed indifferent, agitated that he was struggling to hear the conversation but silent nonetheless.
On the sidelines, either not interested or simply more respectful, was Kakuzu, Zetsu, and Sasori. They weren't participating in the eavesdropping but we're curious to see how the endeavor turned out. Actually the puppet master and the old man were relaxing in the main foyer of Itachi and Kisame's living area. Of course Kisame was reluctant to the idea of spying on his partner and the younger female, but his curiosity got the best of him. Shin, being a part of this particular group now, also had access to the room. It was only through these two that the rest were even here. Shin was even more reluctant than the shark ninja to let the other Akatsuki in, but felt they had rights to know since even though they didn't know Sumi, they knew Itachi. He hadn't resisted much after thinking on that.
This was what Hidan had coerced Deidara into, for once the two men sharing a similar desire to learn something. "Hush! I can hear them slightly, hn..."
"Honestly I don't think I could've pulled it off if I hadn't thought of you. The way they had feared you, just an infant, a bit odd in physical terms, but so innocent. What they did to you that day Sumara...I never forgave our father for it. That ultimately gave me that strength to go through with it... Sumara, how did you survive the river?"
"Huh? Feared? And physically odd? I thought she was fucking smoking..." Hidan mumbles.
"Forget that, what's this about surviving the river?" Kisame adds. Deidara didn't like it, but Tobi was dead silent again. He could only imagine what was going on in that man's head, he rarely understood him when he spoke his mind let alone what he was thinking when he was silent...
Their words were cutting in and out now, so much being missed yet absorbed. For a few moments though, Hidan found himself hearing words that would change him and his destiny...
"It got dark...the water was so cold... remember...cry and scream but...cold...burning lungs. Then...nothing. I remember...black...void...eternity, I was trapped...despite that," a pause, her voice raising slightly so that it was easier to hear. "I eventually saw light, but it was faint and there was a silhouette in front of it. It took some time but my vision cleared enough to make out the person I saw. It was scary at first because he sat upon a throne of corpses, the seat made of bones. But the longer I looked at this strange man, the less I felt I had to fear. And all the while, an almost skeletal apparition seemed to cling to him like a second skin, as if the bones themselves were a hologram over his body. The helmet upon his head, like that of a dragon's skull, seemed the most chilling about him..." Hidan felt his blood run cold and his heart stop. His mind a jumble of confusion, awe, and anger. The very entity she was describing was one he heard descriptions of as a child from his father after his mother's passing. His father, a Jashinist himself, would rant to his child about the hellish beauty of the Lord he had seen in visions with his gift... "I cowered before him but his eyes softened the longer they looked down at me. I wanted to run until... he spoke my name, slowly but surely. He smiled then, a sad yet caring smile that contrasted his barbaric appearance. And then he placed a kiss on my forehead, revealing to me his final words before I faded once more from his dark world. "I am Jashin child, Lord of Death as well as Life, one of which I return to you this day. Do not forget that which I have told you, and bring others to my light. Awaken little wolf..." Hidan's lip was trembling, his eyes shaky as he stared into the painted wood. Sweat graced his pale brow and he found himself speechless for the second time that day for very different reasons...
He doubted not that his Jashin existed, he knew he did from the immortality that he recieved upon preparing sacrifices to the god he worshipped. But to hear from this woman, this girl, that she had died and encountered the deity face to face was nothing short of remarkable. Her description of him was so detailed and accurate, he wasn't sure what to think at first. What he didn't understand was how she described his attitude. Gentle eyes and a quiet tone, leaving a soft kiss upon the forehead of a little girl he pet as if it were his own daughter? His Lord Jashin was a Lord of Death and Destruction! Anything less than that is a sin in his name! Why out of anyone who could've passed would he have treated her so kindly and with the respect to call her the Bringer of Balance? Or Keeper! The Keeper was long spoke of in the Jashinist church as the one their Lord would call forth to be his right hand when the world came to the point of no redemption. There was no way she was so favored by their Lord! Even if she was his missionary!
Shin had heard this story two years prior once Sumara had warmed up to him enough to trust him with the private tale. But it was no secret to the four men above and below Hidan that something about his precious Lord being mentioned had him on edge...
"You hear that, hn?" Hidan tuned back in only if to hear more about this strange woman. He didn't catch much of the beginning that included her trek to the Leaf, but he did hear of certain infidelities acted upon a maturing but still infantile girl. Now he had never given much thought to raping a woman with a mouth on her, but pedophilia was something he never understood. Why would you go after a little kid with no womanly curves on her? It just didn't make sense to him, there's nothing to hold, nothing to push into really until she's more developed, it seemed kind of sick really... And he was pretty sick himself... So the chick grew a little faster than others and it got her raped, he shouldn't care, he didn't really. So why did it settle uneasy with him? It was the act itself, he just didn't agree with it...
But to hear she had been taken in and married off to that guy within a year of being with him? Who the hell did that? No one developed those kinds of feelings in a year! Who the hell even asks a girl he picked up off the street to marry him when she's fucking less than two years old?! Who the hell cares how old her body looked? Who cares if she's peaked like a teenage cheerleader, curvy and soft skinned with voluptuous breasts that perked perfectly against gravity, or a rounded ass that just begged to be groped and kneaded...
He mentally punched himself for veering so far off from the point he was trying to make to himself. He was a sucker for any beautiful woman but he just as well cut 'em up afterwards. First rule of Jashinist fucking...no partner goes free. This chick already broke that rule by not killing off any of the bastards that took her innocence, or slitting the throat of the man who told her 'I do'...
"Why'd it get so quiet, hn?"
"I don't hear anything.."
"Sumi..." The men were wondering just why exactly everything had gone silent when Tobi made a sudden leap back. Mist-like fog was rolling from under the door flowing in a specified pattern that suggested it wasn't just normal mist. It was almost like smoke... All five men shot back, gasping curses and fanning out. The smoke began to collect in front of them and they leaned in only slightly out of curiosity.
Two white lights suddenly flashed in the cloud of gray, almost a foot apart and slanted like feral eyes. They gaped at it in curiosity and wonder, but jumping back after the shit was scared out of them moments later.
That cloud of smoke lashed out, specifically at Hidan. It was somehow fusing together to form a body of sorts, but never truly becoming solid except for the glistening fangs that snapped at him with a feral snarl. "What in the hell?!" The smoky creature resembled a great white wolf, an apparition almost, a ghost with its mane flowing behind it and dissipating in the air. He felt it almost looked at his soul with those blank eyes...
"Down boy." All seven men freeze at the calm, seductive tone of the woman who had captured their interest. Hand on her hip and blood coated, bandaged chest stuck out in authority the raven female clicked her tongue at the beast before her. It floated to her side in short steps and her hand passed over it as if it's fur were solid. The Jashinist wasn't sure whether to be terrified or aroused.
"What the actual fuck bitch?!" he bellows. She glances up at him, dark eyes watching him with an unidentifiable emotion in them. She then leans down to give the creature a kiss on the darkened nose.
"If you mean that to be 'What is he?' then he is a White Wind Wolf. A darling really and an excellent summon. His name's Phantom, the last you'll ever see before you become one," she coos. Itachi then stepped out, looking stoic as ever.
"Itachi! You were just gonna fucking let her slaughter me?!" The Uchiha shrugs.
"Your God would've saved you anyway, isn't that right Hidan?" His damned partner had to be the one to butt in and insult his faith again!
"Damn it Kakuzu!" He then looks to Sumara and Shin. "How the hell are you not fucking pissed that he insults Jashin like that?!" he whines.
Shins sort of shrugs himself. "I was the same before I coverted so I kind of get it." Sumara then added to it.
"Unless you come from a community of Jashinists then you don't really understand what it's like to doubt. Neither one of us came from that background so we understand how people might have trouble believing it. Besides, getting 'fucking pissed' isn't always the answer. Sometimes a little kindness and understanding will go a long way hot stuff. You'd be surprised really." With that her wolf practically evaporated into thin air and she began leaving, bumping the violet-eyed man's shoulder as she left. He was both disgusted and in awe.
"Obviously we worship different Jashins," he spats.
She stops only for a moment, not even looking back. "I was just thinking the same thing..." She didn't even give him time to retort before she was out of there, leaving everyone gaping after her, no one realizing that a form was following her out except one...
"Where the hell is Tobi, hn?!"
Oooh, what be going on now huh? Anybody think they picked up on a few things this chapter? I'd love to here your thoughts. Reviews are appreciated as well as simple questions. I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Til next time!
