Dean was talkative. Dean talked normally but it was a different type of talkative than Castiel was used to. Normally Dean would say important things or about relevant topics. But today he was just talking. Like right now, they were both sitting at The Table reading, except they weren't. At least Cas was trying. Dean on the other hand didn't even try and hide the fact that he was completely ignoring the small stack of books in favour of talking Castiels' ear off.
Castiel just looked at dean, exasperated.
"...and that's why they should've taken him off." Dean was just wrapping off the end of his long speech concerning, Castiel didn't even know what. "Cas?" Dean looked at Cas pointedly waving his arms around. "Cas."
"Hmm? Oh, yes, sorry. You're right." Cas stood up and piled a small bundle of books into his arms. "I'm just going to go and read these in my room." He didn't even make eye contact as he left in fear that it might start Dean off on another long tangent about another dull subject.
But once he reached the door Dean spoke up. "You right Cas? You look a little off." He made to get up.
"No." Cas said a little too harshly judging from the look of confusion on Dean's face. "I mean no, I'm fine. You stay." And with that he hurried out of the room.
Castiel awoke with a small start which caused a few of the books on the blanket to fall to the ground with multiple small thuds. Dreams or nightmares more appropriately called, still plagued Castiels' sleep. This time he dreamed of Metatron. Hours had past judging from the time on the clock, since Cas left Dean at The Table.
A knock sounded at the door to Cas' room then a small "Cas?" as the door opened.
Castiel let out a small husky groan in protest at the light that pierced his vision as he turned on the lamp next to his bed.
"Oh, sorry Cas. You up?"
Castiel made a small 'mmmm' and back rolled over to face Dean when he came in.
"now I know it's not normally my thing, but, is everything ok?" Cas just tilted his head in question for elaboration. "with you? You were acting a bit strange before."
"Yes I'm OK, just tired." He pulled up the blanket to his chin and looked up at Dean. "I didn't sleep at all last night so I had to lie down. I'm better now." After a minute Dean was still leaning on the door frame. "Is there something you wanted to talk about?"
Cass' furrowed look seemed to snap Dean out of whatever trance he was in to talk. "Uh, no, no. Did you want food?"
Cas just nodded through a yawn.
"Come to the kitchen when you're ready. Or, we could go out, for dinner."
Castiel nodded and just rolled off the bed joining a few of the books on the floor.
Dean nodded, "Different." He said in an understanding tone.
"Sometimes I just forget."
