Chapter 7
After the sun came up, there was a knock on the door. Jessie woke with a start and wiped her face in an attempt to wake up. She got up from the floor, realizing how stiff she was. She groaned, stretched and opened the door with a yawn.
Reid stood in front of her and Jessie stopped mid yawn.
"Oh crap." She uttered.
"Jessie! What happened to you?" Reid wined in a panic upon seeing the ketchup all over her face. Jessie frowned trying desperately to perk up.
Reid stepped in and touched her face. He wiped the ketchup with his thumb and showed her. She sighed and suppressed a laugh.
"That's ketchup, Dr. Reid." Jessie put her lips around his thumb and licked it off. He jerked his hand away with a gasp.
"Did you just bite me?" He asked.
A smile twitched up slyly and she jumped at him, her arms around his neck and kissed him.
"I missed you." She said between kisses. She reached behind him and shut the door before she pulled him towards the bed.
"Jessie, stop." Reid struggled between wanting her and needing to talk to her. He reached up and grabbed her chin, pushing her gently away from him. She was shocked.
"I missed you too." Reid said and planted a quick kiss on her lips before stepping away and taking a breath. "Did you say 'oh crap' when you saw it was me?"
Guilt flooded her face but she restructured it quickly. "I always feel like I'm in trouble when you show up unannounced." She mumbled.
"Unannounced? Jessie, I'm your husband, do I need to announce myself?"
"No. No. I just mean… I'm tired Spencer, I'm not going to make any sense." Jessie turned to the coffee maker and started assembling two cups of motel coffee.
Reid stopped her and pulled her towards him. He sat on the bed and pulled him onto his lap.
"Why didn't you tell me?" Reid said into her hair. She pulled away and watched him.
"Tell you wha…" she started, but buckled under his pained expression.
"I was going to." She said. "When I got back. I just wanted to be sure. I wanted to do it right."
"You were admitted into the ER." Reid stated. Jessie took a deep breath.
"What else do you know?" she asked. Anger flashed in Reid's eyes.
"No, Jessie, you have to tell me everything. Not just explain yourself to the things I mention, and you can't hide the things that I don't."
Jessie sighed, exasperated. She stood up from his lap and took her time, thinking about what to say. She turned and faced him. Her messy hair fell into her face but she ignored it. "Spencer, Honey, I have something I want to tell you." She took his face in her hands and continued, "I'm pregnant."
Reid smiled. "We're going to have a baby?" He asked as he couldn't fight his happy tears.
"We're going to have a baby." She confirmed and kissed him.
"I'm going to be a dad." Reid added with a bit of concern.
"You're going to be a great dad." She stated as she looked into his beautiful brown eyes. He looked deep into her green eyes and tried to picture it.
"Oh my god. You're going to drive me insane." He said with genuine concern but a hint of a smile."
"What?" she asked. "Me? Never. I'm a darling."
"A darling that ends up in the ER for being hit over the head and waking up next to the highway. You frequently run into things, fall off things and you act like it's nothing. You're still a darling but I don't know how to take care of you. And a baby."
"You're going to freak out if I get the hic ups, aren't you?" she touched his face. "So, what? I'm going to walk around in a bubble? You're going to put me in protective custody? On bed rest?"
"I have a better idea." Spencer suddenly grinned.
"And that is?"
"I'll tell you when we get home." He pressed his lips together and tried not to laugh. "It's genius."
Jessie crossed her arms and pouted. Reid laughed. "Now tell me about the case you're working on. And how did it get you in the hospital?"
