Chapter 7
"Come on!" Gandalf says.
We start running through rocky plains; we could hear the Wargs as they ran by.
"Stay together."
"Move!" We turn around and backtrack a little as the Wargs where crossing ahead of use.
Thorin then stops behind a rock so we are not seen by the Wargs. Ori starts to run out of the cover. "Ori, no! Come back!" Thorin says as he pulls him back.
Thorin nodded to me, as Gandalf told us to keep running. I moved to the front and had the others following.
We soon take cover behind an outcropping of rock and hear a Warg and Orc behind us.
Thorin looks to me and nods his head. I ready and arrow, I step out and shoot the Warg. As it starts to fall I also shoot the Orc. They fall near us, and the dwarves kill them, but the sound of them carries far.
We could hear the other Wargs heading this way. "Move. Run!" Gandalf says.
I could see the Wargs begin to surround us. We finally stop in a clearing.
"Arien, Kili! Shoot them down!" Thorin shouted to us. We begin shooting at the Wargs and Warg-riders, killing a few.
"Where's Gandalf?"
"He's abandoned us!" Dwalin says.
The dwarves gather close to each other.
"Hold your ground."
"This way, your fool!" We then hear Gandalf shout.
Thorin turns to see him. "Come on, move! Quickly, all of you! Go, go, go!"
Thorin kills a Warg that gets to close. Kili and I both shoot another.
"Kili, Arien! Run!" we hear Thorin yell.
We turn and run towards him. Kili follows his brother, while I jump in after him. The brothers pull me up just as Thorin comes down after me.
We look at as a horn sounds. I smiled at the sound.
We could hear the fight going on up there, and then one orc, shot by an arrow, falls into the cave.
Thorin plucks out the arrow and examines its make. "Elves."
I see Thorin look at Gandalf. I remember this place now. I us to run through here with my brother, I moved to the back of the cave as Dwalin talked.
I walked through it first as the other followed. I felt a smile stretch across my face as I walked out of the path and into the open and there it was in the valley, the city of Rivendell, my home for 19 years.
"The Valley of Imraldis. In the Common Tongue, it's known by another name." I hear Gandalf say.
"Rivendell," Bilbo said.
"Here lies the last Homely House east of the sea."
"This was your plan all along, to seek refuge with our enemy."
I hear Thorin say to Gandalf. I know he forgets I have good hearing, or he wouldn't have said what was being said between them. I hear the last of their conversation. "Which is why you will leave the talking to me. And don't you forget this place is as much a home for your wife as any other place has." Gandalf says as Thorin turns to look at me.
I walk beside Thorin as we walk across a bridge and enter Rivendell.
I stood beside Gandalf at the bottom of the stairs, only to hear a voice behind us.
"Mithrendir." I dark haired elf says. "Ah, Arien." He said as well when he sees me, which I copy him with the same Elvish greeting.
"Ah Lindir."
"Lastannem i athrannedh i Vruinen." (We heard you had crossed into the Valley)
"I must speak with Lord Elrond."
"My lord Elrond is not here."
"Not here? Where is he?"
Suddenly, the Elvish horns from earlier are heard. Gandalf and I turn to see a group of armed horsemen approaching along the bridge at a rapid rate.
"Ifridi bekar!" I hear Thorin say. "Hold ranks!" I sigh at the actions of Thorin and the dwarves as the mounted Elves circle around them. Eventually, they stop and one elf, Elrond separates himself from the others.
"Gandalf."
"Lord Elrond. Mellonnen! Mo evinedh?" (My friend! Where have you been?)
"Farannem 'lamhoth i udul o charad. Dagannem rim na lant Vedui." (We've been hunting a pack of Orcs that came up from the South. We slew a number near the Hidden Pass.)
Elrond dismounts and hugs Gandalf.
"Strange for Orcs to come so close to our borders. Something, or someone, has drawn them near." As he holds up a Orc sword and hands it to Lindir. It was then that he finally took notice of me.
"Arien, I almost did not recognize you." He said.
"It's good to see you as well ada." I said.
"Ah, that may have been us." Gandalf said to answer Elrond's question.
Thorin stepped forward.
"Welcome Thorin, son of Thrain," Elrond said as he stepped closer.
"I do not believe we have met."
"You have your grandfather's bearing. I knew Thror when he ruled under the Mountain."
"Indeed; he made no mention of you."
Elrond ignores the insult, and speaks in Elvish. "Nartho i noer, toltho i viruvor. Boe i annam vann a nethail vin."
"What is he saying? Does he offer us insult?" Gloin says.
"No, master Gloin, he's offering you food." The dwarves quickly discuss this amongst themselves.
"Ah well, in that case, lead on."
Elrond turns to me first and speaks in Elvish to me. "You remember the way to your room do you?"
At my nod he continues. "Then go clean up, and meet us back at the courtyard so you may eat." I nodded to him.
I turned to Thorin before he follows Elrond and Gandalf. "I am going to my old chambers to get cleaned up. Behave." I said.
He smirked. "You know me."
"That's what worries me."
After I have cleaned up, I had dawned on one of the dresses still in my room. I left my room and made my way to where the others were having dinner. As I walked into the room I could feel the eyes of the dwarves on me. Sure they have seen me in a dress before. But none of Elvish make. It was a light blue dress, a gold trimmed belt, gold trimmed along the collar, it also had see through sleeves.
As I sit down across from Elrond, he asked me a few questions.
"After the Fell Winter, the rangers lost contact with you. We thought you dead. Where have you been?"
"The Blue Mountain," I said, as I ate some of the food in front of me.
"And what made you stay there?" He asked softly."
"If you must know ada. I made a life there. I married Thorin and started a family."
Elrond just nodded at me. I smiled at him before taking a look at Thorin.
Elrond the looks over the swords Thorin and Gandalf found. "This is Orcrist, the Goblin Cleaver. A famous blade, forged by the High Elves of the West, my kin. May it serve you well." He handed it back to Thorin or accepts it with a nod. Elrond then examines Gandalf's sword.
"And this is Glamdring, the Foe-hammer, sword of the King of Gondolin. These swords were made for the goblin wars of the First Age..."
"How did you come by these?"
"We found them in a troll hoard on the Great East Road, shortly before we were ambushed by orcs."
"And what were you doing on the Great East Road?" I look between Gandalf and Thorin as neither of them spoke up. I sighed before speaking up. "If I could be excused, ada, I would like to take a walk around. It's been many years since I've been here."
"Of course, you know you are always welcomed here."
I stood up with a nod. As I turned to leave, I placed a hand on the back of Thorin's chair as I passed by.
I walked around the halls until I found myself at the balcony were the statue that held the Shards of Narsil, my nephews future sword. I walked up the steps to look down at the broken blade. I placed my hand over my heart and said I silent pray, I was so focused that I did not hear the footsteps behind me.
"What are you looking at?" I hear and turn to see Thorin.
"Why don't you come and see," I said.
He walked over and up beside me. "I broken blade?"
"These are the Shards of Narsil. It was forged by a dwarf from Nogrod in the First Age. My ancestor used the sword it to cut the One Ring from Sauron's hand, defeating him. It has been passed down through my family, and will be my nephews when he becomes the king of Gondor and Arnor." I said. I stepped back down the stairs and made my way over to a balcony off to the side. I felt Thorin place his arms around my waist.
"Are you happy to see your home again?" He asked, as we looked out over the Valley.
"I am. But... my home now is wherever you are Thorin, be it in Erebor, back in the Blue Mountains," I said as I turned around in his arms as I placed my head on his shoulder, looking back out over the Valley.
I'm sure some of you know the elvish spoken in these scenes or you can look the up.
