Chapter Six - Isolation

Her eyes flashed open and with a makeshift dagger made of a piece of scrap metal, Lynnea snapped awake at the sound she had heard.

It had been several hours that she walked across the tired, dying landscape. There was nothing and she needed to get some sleep

Cities destroyed.

Bodies covered the ground if they were not covered in fiery ash.

All nature of animal and life was gone.

But she had found a city that had nothing but a few flimsy structures that would prove to be a good shelter and allow her to sleep at least for a little while.

But now that she was rested and fully alert, it was time to fortify herself.

Linney took the dagger and sliced at the long tattered remenants of her gown, leaving the emerald corset around her waist for comfort and movement.

But she did not have a weapon for herself to use. There would be only one place to get some: her limbo closet.

Passing her hand along the charred wall, she opened a rift between the realities of present and limbo.

But nothing happened.

Lynnea did a second and third time.

Her access to limbo was sealed.

How? Why?

Now she was frightened.

However a good warrior and someone with her skills should know what to do.

Using her magic, she passed her hands across her bare legs and created a set of leg-hugging pants and boots to keep her body warm, yet limber enough to walk and battle.

With a piece of torn fabric and a long stick that she wrapped at the bottom and top, she conjured the primitive weapon into a brand new magical bow. The same process she repeated with a bundle of sticks to create arrows and a quiver.

Now she was fortified.

But she noted that she was incredibly weakened after all her magic use. It all began to make sense. No access to Limbo? Weakened state?

Had she been cut off from Yggdrasil and Asgard? Was she on her own?

She would have to limit her use of her magic if she was going to survive this peril.

Her next mission now was to locate Francis and Clint.

Suddenly, there was a noise that alerted her to attention.

Linney moved out of the decrepit structure and moved fluidly down the path. She feared that if the sound she had heard had come from the metal monsters she had witnessed upon her arrival, would she have the strength and fortitude to go toe to toe against them?

Time would only tell.

She softly plucked out an arrow and loaded it into the notch. Slowly as she moved to pull the arrow and string back, her heart sped up more, and she whipped around the corner.

The sound's source jumped and tackled her to the dirt. They rolled around and Linney attempted to use the bow as a striking and defensive weapon.

The young thing with the wild black hair, red top, and golden colored pants attacked with claws that appeared to be protruding out of the tops of her flesh. A weapon that her attacker attempted to exploit to try and claw her neck open.

Then just as Lynnea thought she was about to lose, the girl spoke.

"Wait! You're not a bot," the youth snarled.

"No I am not," she replied.

Lynnea was released and she slowly got to her feet; not taking her eyes off her attacker.

"What in he Hell are you doing out here alone?" the child asked.

"I am..." She had best be careful what she said. There was no telling what harm to the timeline she was already causing by her presence here. "I am on my own. The name is Morgan. Lyndsay Morgan."

"Logan, Rina Logan," the girl replied and lowered her weapon claws. They slowly went back into her hands. "You a scavenger?"

"No. Just trying to survive."

"Then you may as well accompany me," young Rina told her. "My transport can take us to the base where the Scavengers are hiding out. Last I heard they were still outside of Vegas. I know a shortcut so we could get there in a hurry."

"I appreciate your assistance," Lynnea replied. "It will be help me in my quest."

As they slowly walked toward her transport, the youth spoke out to her. "So how long have you been on your own?" she asked.

"I recently became deserted," Linney told her. She wasn't lying, but there was no doubt in her mind that if she had been cut off from Yggdrasil and her limbo closet, she was deserted by all of the nine realms. "Do what I can."

"Well, you are lucky one," her former attacker, now ally spoke. "Most people die out here alone without some form of shelter. I will fix that for you when we get to the base."

After Young Logan had finished looking through the destroyed village, they climbed aboard a vessel that slowly rose from the ground to fly. It was similar to the transport that Clint owned, but his actually touched the ground, whereas this one did not.

Once in the air, they moved with lightning speed across the terrain.

Rina claimed it would take almost a day to get to her base, but if it brought her closer to Francis and Clinton, it was worth the trip.

A shortie, but it needed to be apart from the other chapters. In a couple down the road, I will make up for the length. Please review!
