Nina-chan is starting to run out of things to say as an opening line xD

Anyways, here's the new chapter. I decided to focus on the Kurans because let's be honest here, along with the Kiryuu's, I think the Kurans deserved so much more screen time, and I'm very disappointed they didn't get it. So I'm making some up.

Nina-chan~

PS: If one of these days I sign my name as Nini, instead of Nina, is because my twins have this new thing in which they no longer call me mami (the Spanish word for mom) instead, they call me Nini, what I assume is a combination of my name and mami. And now everyone calls me that, so don't worry if you see that instead of Nina.

Chapter 6: The Kuran Family

At the school, everyone pretty much knew each other. When you had such few students, all of them who share the same social class, is very easy for people to obtain information about each other. And of course, everyone knew the Kuran brothers: Haruka, Kaname and Shiki. They were pretty much royalty among the students. By the definition of many, they were perfect. They had everything anyone could dream off: good looks, money, a good family name, popularity, smarts and everything else that came with being a Kuran, including its burdens. Very few people actually knew them, and even fewer knew their secrets.

Kuran Kaname is the middle child out of three. He's known for being a very calm and patient person, and also the most serious one out of his brothers. He was cool-headed and it was really hard to find him in a bad mood. There were only a few things that could piss him off, and Sara was on the top of the list. He would rather deal with his father, and that was saying something. Sara and him might have some history, but that doesn't mean things between them are going to go back to the way they were. She fucked up big time, and Kaname was not going to forget that any time soon. After escorting Yuki to her room, he decided to head back to his own room. On the way there, his phone vibrated. He had two texts, one from Haruka and another one from Shiki.

I'm out running- Haruka

I have some studying to do with Rima, Haru is out running and I lock the dorm. I hope you have the keys with you- Shiki.

Luckily for Kaname, he did have his keys.

It took him about ten minutes to get from the girl's wing to his room. Despite what a lot of people may think, the castle was a lot bigger than it seemed. He open the door and was greeted by an organized living room, which was probably Shiki's doing. It wasn't a huge living room, but it was definitely comfortable. Besides, it was only him and his brothers, so it was perfect. There was a table in the middle of the room surrounded by some comfortable looking sofas and a fireplace in front of it. He had to remember to thank Shiki from organizing the room. This morning the whole room was a total mess: books everywhere, papers laying around, just a total mess. He knew it was Shiki's doing because no God nor Devil could make Haruka clean a single thing.

The living room had three doors, each one led to their rooms. Kaname crossed the living room and reached for the door in the right corner of the room and walked into his room. His room was big, a lot bigger than the living room he had previously been in. The walls were white, except for one wall that was painted a midnight blue color, almost black. The bed covers were the same shade of blue of the wall, and so was mainly everything else in the room. He walked towards his desk and turned on his laptop. He had an essay do soon, and he was almost finished with it. He could get it done before dinner time.

As soon as his laptop was on, an email notification popped up. It was from his "mother", Senri. Well, stepmother is the correct term for her. She was his father's wife and Shiki's mother. She and his father, Rido, were trapped in an arrange marriage and while Senri was loyal to her husband, the same thing couldn't be said for Rido. Everyone knew just how many affairs Rido had, including his wife, who at this point, doesn't care anymore. Haruka and Kaname were the results of one of their father's affair. Thier mother was a beautiful musician who used to perform at Rido's favorite bar. She was a very beautiful woman, or that's what Kaname thought from what he remembers. He was just a kid when she passed away. She used to have long, curly black hair and a pair of huge dark brown eyes. She was an incredibly sweet lady that always saw the good in people, no matter how bad they really were. This would be the only logical explanation as of why she would've fallen in love with Rido Kuran, even when she knew about his reputation. She loved Rido, but to him, she was nothing more than his newest adventure. Someone to toss aside once he was bored of her. After her death, Haruka's and Kaname's custody went directly to their father, who was ready to send them to the furthest orphanage he could fine just to get rid of them. The one who prevented this from happening was Senri. Kaname would spent the rest of his life thanking her for that. Not because he wanted to live as a Kuran or anything like this, but because he knew that if they would've been sent to an orphanage, the chances of him and his brother staying together were slim. He might not show it very often, but Kaname wouldn't be able to imagine his life without his brother. Despite his love for Senri and Shiki, it was Haruka the one who knew him the best, and the only one who understood everything they had gone through.

-Flashback-

The hardest thing to explain to kids is the concept of death. Kids will be kids, and their imagination runs wild. For them, someone dying could mean that they are just going to sleep for a little while. They don't seem to understand that the person is never coming back. At this very moment, Kazumi was very glad that her little boys, despite who smart both of them were, didn't understand what death was. She's going to die, she's known this for quite some time now, but she knew that today would be her last day. It might sound crazy, but she knew she wouldn't live another day. She has never been afraid of dying, after all there was nothing to really fear. What she feared was what would happen to her little sunshines. Ever since she found out she was sick, when Haruka was four and Kaname three, all she was worried about was her children. She knew there were no chances of her surviving. She couldn't afford a fancy doctor or any of those expensive treatments, so she decided to just let the sickness run its course. Of course, the only person to know about this was her sister. She didn't want to worry anyone else, not that anyone else would care for her. Her family kicked her away the second she decided to have Haruka, even when she was an unmarried woman. There's not a single day in which she regrets her decision.

Her children were her biggest blessing, and they will always be. Everyone who knew her situation, how Rido pretty much abandoned her, told her she should hate Rido, but she couldn't. After all, how could she hate the person who gave her the two biggest presents of her life? However, she did knew of Rido's way, and she knew he didn't care for her or their children. It was then when she decided to pretty much walked away from him and never even think of him again. It was though, raising to kids all by herself, especially when she didn't have her family to support her, but she managed and loved every single minute of it. Her children where the most amazing kids in the world, at least on her eyes, and she would do anything for them. They just made her life so much better. However, she knew she didn't have much time left with them, and she needed to talk to them.

"Boys, why don't you come here and sit next to mommy?" Her voice was weak, like the rest of her body, but her kind smile never left her face. Soon, her two boys took a seat next to her, Haruka to her right and Kaname to her left. She wrapped her arms around them and hugged them lightly.

"Boys, you know that mommy is sick right?"

"Yes, we know mommy. But you are going to get better, right mommy?" Asked Haruka with his big brown eyes full of innocence. Kazumi just smile at her kid.

"Of course I'm going to get better. But in order for me to get better, I'm going to have to leave you guys for a time."

"Where are you going mommy?" Asked Kaname. He didn't want his mom to leave. They would miss her!

"To a place very far away from here. I don't know how long I'll be gone, but I want you boys to know that no matter how far it is, I would always be with you two. I will be watching over you and I will always have you both in my heart. I want you both to remember that. I also want you both to know that I love both more than anything else." Kazumi could feel the tears forming on her eyes, but refused to cry in front of her babies. She didn't want to leave her little boys. She wanted to see them grow up and become the amazing men she knew they were going to become. She wanted to be them for them, to help them whenever they needed her the most, but she knew it was impossible.

"We love you too mommy." Said Haruka while hugging his mother. Kaname nodded and copied Haruka's actions. Kazumi just placed her hands on the top of their heads and gently run her fingers through their hair.

"Haru, I want you to take care of Kaname. You are his big brother after all. Make sure no one messes with him." Haruka nodded while Kazumi smiled. "I want you boys to go to school and get good grades, make lots of friends and be happy. But more importantly, I want you guys to take care of each other. No matter what, you both have each other don't ever forget that. And don't ever forget that I will be watching over the two of you. Do you think do that?" Both boys nodded. Kazumi smiled at her boys and laid down. The boys should be sleeping by now, and she was feeling rather tired. Both boys snuggle against her, getting ready to sleep. She kissed their foreheads.

"I love you boys, good night."

Next morning, Kazumi's younger sister, came to check on her sister. When she entered the house, she founded her two nephews watching TV quietly. Her nephews were typically calm and quiet children, but today, it seemed like something was wrong. She didn't know what, but she didn't like it.

"Hello boys." She greeted as she ruffle their hairs. "Where's mommy?"

"Hi Harumi." Both boys greeted her back. "Mommy still asleep." Answered Haruka.

Harumi nodded and made her way to the kitchen. Her sister has been feeling worse and worse with each passing day, and they both knew she didn't have much time left. Everyday, Harumi prayed for a miracle that would save her sister. Putting the thoughts of her sister aside, she decided to cook the boys some breakfast. They may be smart kids, but they were still kids. But before she did anything, she wanted to go check on her sister. Ever since last night, she's been having a really bad feeling and when she walked into the house this morning, the feeling just got stronger. She just wanted to make sure her sister was alright.

"Boys, I'm going to go check on Kazumi and then I'm going to cook you breakfast. Why don't you guys think about what you want for breakfast and tell me when I get down?" She asked as she headed towards her sister's room.

She opened the door softly, not wanting to wake her up. Kazumi looked like she was peacefully asleep. At first, Harumi just thought she was asleep and was ready to leave, until notice that something was wrong with Kazumi. Her normally tan skin was pale, as pale as a ghost. She got closer to her and when she touch her, she was freezing. That's when she notice, that Kazumi wasn't breathing. Quickly, she started looking for a pulse only to realize that there was none. As fast as she could, she grabbed the house's phone, and called for help.

After 3 long hours, her sister was officially taken to the hospital and declared dead. Harumi decided to stayed in the house, since someone needed to watch over the children. When she got the call from the hospital, she didn't know what to do. How was going to explain to the kids that their mother was gone? She looked over to the living room, where Haruka and Kaname were coloring. She needed to explain the boys what just happened, even when she had no clue on how she was going to do it. She took a seat in front of the boys.

"Boys, I've got bad news for you." Both boys looked up from their drawings. Harumi was trying really hard not to break down in front of the kids. "Your mom...she's...she's gone" She figured that it would be the best if she just told them instead of trying to prolong it.

"We know." Said Haruka as he went back to his drawing. "She told us last night that she was going to go away so she could get better. A place where she wouldn't be sick anymore."

Harumi didn't know if she should laugh or cry. That's who Kazumi was. Always making up the best stories to hide reality. But now, she had bigger problems in her hands. She had no idea what she was going to do with the two boys in front of her. As much as she wanted, she couldn't take care of the boys. Her family wouldn't allow her to, and she was sure her parents wouldn't even want to see the kids. Kazumi's biggest fear seem to be turning into a reality: that no one would take care of her children. That only left Harumi with one option, and she just hopped her sister wouldn't come back to kill her for it.

In the Kuran Mansion

Rido had learned of Kazumi's dead three days after it happened. By then, it was too late to even go to her funeral. He might've been a dick to her, but at least he would've liked to attend her funeral and pay his respect, sorta. A few days ago, Rido had been contact by some man who worked for the government. This man was the one who told him about Kazumi's death, and about his illegitimate children with her. Because of her death, and the fact that her family wanted nothing to do with them, the custody of those two children were now his. He never saw the children, and he certainly didn't care for them, so why on Earth would they give him their custody. He had enough with his legitimate brat, he didn't need two more. Unfortunately, if he wanted to get rid of them, he needed to sign some papers, which meant more headaches for him.

"Sir, you've got some visitors. They are waiting for you in the living room." Said some maid from outside of Rido's study. Taking a deep breath, he stood up from his chair and headed to the living room. He had to make this quick, after all he had so much work to do.

When he arrived to the living room, he was shocked to see his wife there, with two children his never seen in his life. Given how much the kids looked like him, he came to the conclusion that those two were his children. Not even his own legitimate child looked this much like him. The one he assumed was the oldest one, given the height difference, looked a little bit more like his mother, but still looked too much like him. The younger one on the other hand, looked like a mini copy of himself. Dark brown hair, wine colored eyes, and same facial features. He was shocked. He never really thought about these kids, and he never would've imagined that they would look so much like him.

The kids were sitting on the biggest sofa in the living room, and next to them was his wife. When Rido found out about the whole situation, he was forced into telling his wife. She, as expected, didn't take it the best way, so Rido was expecting his wife to be completely willing to let got of the children. After all, who would want to see the living proof that your husband cheated on you, not once, but twice? However, instead of yelling and being angry at the kids, she had a kind smile on her face, and seemed to be having a conversation with them.

"You must be Rido Kuran right?" Asked a man who was also standing in the living room all dressed in a dark suit. Rido assumed he was the social worker who had been assigned to the case.

"Yes."

"I apologize to the short notice before coming here. Time is not a luxury we have at this point. I'm sure you are aware of what happened to the children's' mother, right?" Rido nodded. "Well, even when you haven't legally recognize them, you're still the father, so you have to make the decision of whether you want to keep their custody, or otherwise…" Rido knew what the social worker was hinting to, and he really didn't want to keep the kids with him.

"Do they have any relative besides me? Anyone who will be willing to take them?" Rido asked, ignoring the glare his wife just gave him.

"I'm afraid not. Their grandparents already said they will take no part on this, and the only person who is willing to take them doesn't have the financial means to raise them and the government would never allow her to take them."

"Then send them to an orphanage. I don't want them around, I have enough shit going on as it is." Said Rido, not caring that the kids were going to hear them. Unfortunately for him, his wife always heard him.

"Rido, can we please have a word in private please?" She asked as she stood up from her seat and headed towards Rido's study. Rido just groaned. This was going to be a very painful headache.

"Care to tell me what are you doing?" She asked once they reached his study.

"I'm not planning to take responsibility for those kids. They can go to the orphanage for all I care about. Listen, if it makes you feel any better I'll talk to the guy and make sure they go to a good orphanage. Not please give me a break and get off my ass." He was already getting tired of everything that was going on. All he wanted was for all of this to be over already. Senri couldn't believe her ears. She knew Rido could be a heartless man, but she never imagined it would be to this point.

"Rido, they are your sons."

"I can SEE that Senri, but I have no obligation to take them in. I've never cared for them, why should I start now? Besides why are you being such a big pain in the ass about this? They are my illegitimate children anyways. Why do you care what happens to them? If anything you should hate them." Rido couldn't understand why his wife was making such a big deal out of this. If anything, she should be wishing for them to be sent as far away from there as possible.

"Because is not their fault! Rido, I'm very much aware that you've been cheating on me even from before we got married. I know you think I'm an idiot, but I'm not, Rido. I know what's going on, I just choose to ignore it. But those kids, those kids can't be blamed for you being a complete asshole. For once, how about you act like man and take responsibility for your actions? Sending them away is not going to do anything, at the end of the day, they will still be your kids. And more importantly, those kids, are my child's brothers. I'm not going to let them grow up without knowing each other."

Rido took a deep breath and started to rub his temple. He was right, this was going to be a painful headache. Fuck life and arrange marriages. If he hadn't been forced to marry, none of this shit would be happening. He need alcohol, and soon.

"Fine Senri, I'll keep the kids." He knew better than to argue with his wife. For most of the time, Senri didn't care whatever he did. She had her own life and she hardly ever interfere with Rido's, which he was more than happy with. Senri was willing to overlook most of the things he did, but he knew she was not going to let this go. And despite being mostly a sweet woman, he knew Senri would make his life miserable if she really wanted.

Satisfied with his answer, Senri made her way back to the living room. Her husband and the social worker could take care of the legal matter themselves, she was more concerned about the children.

"The children will be staying with us. My husband is in the study at the end of the hallway. I'm sure you two can deal with all the paperwork that needs be dealt with." Senri told the social worker and with a nod, the man was gone.

Smiling as kindly as she could, Senri sat next to Haruka and Kaname. She could only imagine what the children were going through. Losing their mother when they were so young and then being practically tossed around from one place to another. It must be so hard for them.

"Your names are Haruka and Kaname right?" Both boys shyly nodded. "Those are pretty names. How old are you guys?"

"I'm five." Haruka said as he held up five finger in the air.

"I'm four." Responded Kaname in a more reserved manner.

These kids were closed to her own kid's age. Senri couldn't believe Rido would do such a thing as to get rid of them. Despite the fact that she hasn't spent much time with the kids, she could tell they were very well mannered and sweet children. Just when she was about to go and get Shiki to introduce them, her husband walked into the living room. The social worker was no longer with him, so Senri assumed he had already left.

"Everything is fixed, the brats will be staying with us." He said with annoyance. Both boys looked at him, yet didn't say anything. Rido looked at them, if he was going to be dealing with the brats, he mind as well know who the are. "What are your names?"

"Haruka," He introduce himself. He knew that the man in front of them was their father, the guy in the suit had showed them a picture of him before they came to the house.

"I'm Kaname."

Rido nodded. "Do you guys know who I am?"

Both boys nodded. Rido suspected the social worker must have had said something to them. He highly doubted that Kazumi would've told the kids about him. He would be really surprised if she actually did told them something about him.

"Senri, I have work to do at the office. I won't be back until late. You deal with them." And with that, he was off.

"He's scary." Said Haruka once Rido was gone. He didn't like him very much

Senri smiled at him. "Don't worry, he won't do anything to you guys while I'm here. Don't even worry about him. Are you boys hungry?" Both boys nodded, Haruka a lot more eagerly than Kaname. Senri smiled.

"Lin." Senri yelled for the servant. Soon, a man was standing in the entrance of the living room.

"You called, Senri-sama?" He asked.

"Would you be kind enough to bring those two backpacks to a guest room?" She said as she pointed at the two backpacks the boys had brought with them, which Senri assumed was all of their belongings. "Also, I need you to get me the house decorator here this afternoon. And before you come down, bring Shiki with you." With a bow, the man left to do what Senri had asked him to do.

"Alright boys, I know you guys are probably really confused, but there's someone I want you guys to know. I promise I will explain everything to you guys as soon as everything gets settled down."

After a couple minutes, Lin had made his way back to the living room, and with him was a little, red haired guy who seemed to be around the same age as Kaname, perhaps a year younger than him. He has a really bored look to him, like he has just been woken up from his nap.

"Shiki sweetheart, these are Haruka and Kaname. They will be living with us from now on. Boys, this is Shiki, he's your younger brother." All three children seem somewhat confused, but Shiki was kinda excited that there were kids around his age in the house. He didn't have many friends after all. For Haruka and Kaname, everything was happening too quickly for them to really understand what was going on.

"Come on, I bet you all are hungry. Lunch should be ready by now," She took the three boys to the dining room to eat. After lunch, she had Lin watch over Shiki while she went and showed Haruka and Kaname their new rooms.

The boys were really shocked at the size of the house. Never in their lives had they been in such a big house. And now, each one of them got their own room! They were so used to sharing their room that they were super excited about having their own rooms.

"Nee Haruka-kun, what color do you want the walls to be?" Senri asked him. Right now, he was looking around his new room. He still couldn't believe this was going to be his new room!

"Can it be blue?" He asked with big eyes. Blue was his favorite color

Senri smiled and ruffle his hair. "Of course."

Both boys looked at each other and sat in the comfortable and big bed.

"Senri-san?" Called Kaname. As soon as he called her, Senri focus all of her attention on Kaname.

"Yes, Kaname-kun?"

"We are not going to see mommy anymore right?" Senri was shocked by the question. She really didn't know what to tell these kids. A part of her didn't want to lie to them, she knew that wasn't right, but at the same time, how do you tell two little kids their mother was dead? Not knowing what else to do, she just sat down next to the kids.

"I'm afraid so. By the looks of it, you guy won't be seeing her for a very long time. But you boys don't need to worry about it. You will be staying here until you can go back to see her. No matter how long it takes." She tried to reassure the kids. She didn't want to see that sadness of their eyes.

"Thank you." Both boys said.

"You are very much welcome." As mad as Senri was with Rido, she knew these kids were not to blame. Not even their mother was to blame. If there was someone in this whole fiasco who should feel some kind of guilt is Rido. However, she couldn't help but to feel happy. She had just gained two adorable sons, and she knew that now her son will be able to spend as much time as he wanted with his siblings. Things were rather good, despite all the bad.

End of Flashback

Haruka and Kaname were immensely thankful to Senri. If it wasn't for her, they would've probably grown up in some orphanage, and maybe, he wouldn't even be with his brother. On top of everything, she had treated them like her own kids. Don't get him wrong, he loves his real mother and he would never forget her, but after her death, Senri was the closest thing he had to a mother.

Kaname was so into his thoughts, that he didn't even realized when his door opened and Haruka walked into his room.

"Hey, snap out of it." Said Haruka while placing a hand on Kaname's shoulder, causing him to give a small jump in surprise. Haruka just laughed. He was dressed in a pair of pajama bottoms and no shirt. He had a towel on his hand and was trying to dry his damp hair. "I asked you if you knew where Shiki was. He's not in his room."

"He said he was going to study with Rima." Kaname went back to his laptop, only to realize how late it was. Dinner was going to start soon. "Shit." He whispered as he started to run around the room, gathering his stuff to go and take a shower. Haruka just laughed at him.

"So...how long do you think is going to take until we have a nephew or a niece?" Haruka just randomly asked, causing Kaname to stop whatever he was doing and give his brother a weird look.

"What?" He asked. He was very confused at Haruka's question.

"Come on Kaname. All Shiki does in his free time is "study" with Rima. I don't know about you, but I'm no idiot. I'm sure that if they are studying something, is certainly not algebra."

"Haruka, stop talking nonsense. And besides, Shiki is not idiot, he knows what he's doing."

"I bet you 20 bucks when he comes back he's going to have a hickey somewhere."

Kaname just sighted. Sometimes it was really, really hard to believe Haruka was the oldest out of all of them. Even Shiki, who was the baby of the family, was more mature than he was. "Whatever Haruka, I'm going to take a shower." And with that, Kaname made his way to the bathroom.

"Hurry your ass up. We only have half an hour before dinner." Haruka left his brother's room and went to get ready for dinner. As he was walking out, Shiki was walking in. The first thing Haruka notice about his brother was his unkempt hair, his half taken off uniform, and the big hickey on his neck.

'Told you Kaname.' Haruka thought to himself.

"Dude that thing is gigantic. Tell Rima to lay off a little bit in the biting department." Haruka said to his brother, trying to tease him. Shiki's cheek immediately became a bright red color that went all the way to his ears.

"Shut up." Was Shiki's brilliant response to his brother's statement.

"Well you know what they say, is always the quiet ones." Haruka laughed at his brother's bright red face. Shiki was too easy to tease.

"Whatever, I'm skipping dinner tonight." And with that, he locked himself in his room. Smiling at his brother's actions, Haruka walked into his own room in order to get ready for dinner.

The only thing the Kuran brothers had in common was their looks, and their brains. When it came to their personalities, they were opposites of each other. Haruka was known for being the cheerful and laid back one. There were only a few things that could set him in a bad mood. He was also the one with the biggest sense of humor out of all of them, and the most immature one, at least in the eyes of many. He was also the most social and friendly out of all of them. Kaname was the serious, yet gentle one. He was definitely the most mature one out of his brothers, and most of the time people were intimidated by him. When he wanted to, Kaname could be a very sweet and caring person, but only to those he loves and appreciate the most. While he wasn't a social butterfly like Haruka was, he was a heck of a lot more sociable than Shiki. Shiki was pretty much the shy and quiet one. He hardly had any friends and he kept to himself. The times he actually did something was because his brothers or closed friends forced him to. Other than that, Shiki liked to keep to himself, less drama that way.

In the eyes of many, the Kuran brothers just didn't seem to fit the picture of the 'perfect brothers' relationship, but they did have a pretty close relationship. Haruka was the one who made sure his brothers had so kind of fun in their lives, Kaname was the one who made sure none of them decided to do any stupid shit, and if they did, he was there to try to talk some sense into them, and Shiki was there to support his brothers in whatever they wished to do. Somehow, it worked perfectly for them.

In about 20 minutes, Haruka was all ready for dinner. He was wearing a pair of tight jeans and light blue t-shirt. His hair was still slightly damp, but he didn't really cared too much about it. He grabbed his phone and went to get Kaname. To his surprise, he found Kaname sitting in out of the couches, waiting for him to be done.

"How the Hell did you managed to be done in time?" Haruka asked.

"Unlike you, I don't take my sweet ass time making sure every little piece of hair is in the right place."

'I can see that.' Thought Haruka as he noticed Kaname's very messy hair.

"Let's go, Shiki said he wasn't going to dinner. By the way, you owe me 20 bucks." Kaname just gave his brother a weird look. "You should've seen the hickey on his neck and his face when he walked in. It was great." Kaname sighted, his brother was never going to grow up.
