By the time Dana got home that night she felt as if she'd told Kol too much about herself. Granted, she had told him little. After a few other questions Kol had become bored and had left, dropping her off on his way home.
Dana's grandmother gave her a sharp look when she stepped over the threshold, but said nothing else as her granddaughter trekked upstairs.
It was in her room that Dana found a brand new mini-fridge stocked with bags of blood. Dana smiled, making a mental note to later thank her grandmother for thinking to get some. Granted, the old woman had probably done it to keep Dana from killing people, but it was the thought that counted. Besides, it couldn't have been easy for her gran to get it.
She crashed on her bed, head falling back against the pillow. She drew in a deep breath and slowly exhaled. Kol had gotten it right when he'd noted that killing was in her blood.
Just not the sort of killing he assumed.
A groan escaped her mouth as she rolled over, burying her face in the purple comforter. Her fingers curled and twisted in the blanket. She almost felt like she was going to get a headache from the day she'd had, but she knew she wouldn't.
Dana raised her head only to see her gran standing in her doorway, watching her with sharp eyes that never seemed to soften. She often wondered how her grandmother went through life showcasing such harshness and ultimately ended up deciding it was just in her nature.
"How did your date go?"
Dana could hear the cynical tone her grandmother was using. She didn't approve of Dana's little trip with Kol. If Dana were any other girl she wouldn't blame the old lady, but Dana wasn't any other girl and she knew she could handle herself.
"Spectacular," Dana responded, albeit a bit sarcastically.
Her gran's eyes narrowed. "You had best be careful."
She kept herself from rolling her eyes at her grandmother's warning. If she'd heard it once, she'd heard it a million times before. She almost reminded her grandmother just why she'd ended up in Mystic Falls to begin with. To remind the old woman that she'd been shunned from the family long before she had.
Instead, Dana remained blissfully silent.
Stacey left, leaving the young vampire alone to dwell in her own thoughts. Dana rolled over onto her back, staring up at the ceiling.
Kol had been right in a way. Killing ran through her veins, no matter how much she constantly denied it. It had been from the very moment she'd been born. Even now as she thought about it, she could practically feel the beat of the girl's pulse beneath her fingertips. Dana could clearly remember how easily that girl's neck had snapped.
And honestly, she wasn't sure if she should be afraid of herself or not.
The next day Dana found her grandmother in the kitchen, frail hands wrapped around a cup of coffee. She raised an eyebrow at the elderly woman, but said nothing as she sipped from the glass she'd brought from her room.
"What are your plans for today?"
Dana glanced up in surprise, "I dunno."
Her grandmother stared at her, a stern look dancing in her clouded blue eyes, "They found a dead girl in the park last night."
Dana's eyes instantly narrowed. She knew for a fact that nobody had found a dead girl's body in the park last night because Kol had done something with the body. There was no way someone would have found it in the park because Kol had taken the dead girl far from there.
"How did you know?" Dana instantly demanded.
Stacey's eyebrow arched high above her left eye as she state, "I know people."
Dana started walking towards the doorway, glancing over her shoulder at her gran as she explained, "Kol compelled me Gran."
"He's an Original you stupid girl. I would think that you of all people would know about their kind and their powers," Stacey retorted, slamming the palms of her hands against the table, "you should know to steer clear of them."
"And you should know that Mom and Dad never mentioned anything about the Originals to us!" Dana snapped, swirling around to once again fully face her grandmother.
Stacey leaned back in her chair, a sigh slipping past her lips. "Your parents are fools, as are your brothers."
Dana's left eye twitched as the mention of her family. "Yeah. They're the fools. You're the one who-"
"Don't you dare try and hold that against me! Not when you committed one of the highest acts of treason!" Stacey's voice took on a steely tone as she spoke to her granddaughter who now appeared to be absolutely fuming.
She glared at her grandmother, and when Stacey blinked Dana was gone. She was out of the house, running as fast as she could until she reached the woods. Her gran had the audacity to accuse Dana of committing treason when Stacey had forsaken the family name in the first place.
Her fist flew, making contact with the first tree she saw. She watched as the tree fell over with the force of her punch. She growled, speeding off once again. Frustration pumped through her veins, fueling something she hadn't felt in what seemed like forever.
Memories flashed through her mind in that moment. She remembered being hunted. She remembered waking up after being turned. She remembered her first taste of blood. She remembered when she felt bloodlust for the first time.
That was all she needed.
There was a group not too far from her. Five from what she could tell. They were loud, they were rambunctious, and from the smell of it, they were getting high. It was perfect for Dana, an opportunity for her to relieve her anger and the bloodlust she was feeling.
She knew it wasn't entirely right. But at the moment she didn't care and she felt the need to throw the promise she'd made to her grandmother right back into the woman's face.
So that's what she did.
Dana didn't pause when she came onto the group. Their reaction was slow as she snatched the first boy by the neck, her eyes darkening and veins around them bursting with blood. She sank her fangs into the soft flesh of his jugular, dropping him soon after to go after the next teenager.
They were reacting now. A girl screaming, a boy taking off at a sloppy run that told her she wouldn't have a problem catching up with him. She had her fangs latched onto the fourth's neck moments later, then she was after the runaway boy.
From behind he looked familiar, but Dana knew that was her imagination running wild in the midst of her having a surprisingly good time. Her feet flew and before she knew it she had the boy by the neck and was tossing him to the side. His back hit a tree and he slumped to the ground.
She sped over to him, kneeling down so she could stare him straight in his distant, brown eyes. "Don't speak," She murmured, titling his head from side to side as she examined his face. The fear was evident in his eyes, no matter what high he was currently on.
He wasn't as familiar as he had first appeared. The eyes were the wrong color, the jaw too wide, the cheekbones not high enough, his nose didn't even look like it had ever been broken before. His hair was even the wrong shade of blonde. He didn't even smell the same.
So she kill him.
She stood up, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand. Their blood wasn't as good as she had hoped it would be. Instead it had ran over her tongue and left an unsavory tang behind. She wrinkled her nose, staring at the bodies she'd left strewn about. In the depths of her mind she felt guilt brush against her conscience, but otherwise pushed those feelings aside, something she had grown up learning how to do.
In the end she left the bodies right where they were, still holding a grudge against her grandmother for the hidden accusations she was directing Dana's way.
It infuriated her that Stacey was treating Dana like a child. She was forever stuck at nineteen years old, technically twenty one if she were to count her two years as a vampire. She had spent those two years perfectly fine on her own, and she didn't have to stay with her grandmother. The only reason she remained with the elderly woman was because that was the safest place she could be.
Or maybe she was safer out on her own.
It was a thought she often fought with herself about. She knew her grandmother could be her safest bet. Mystic Falls would be the last place they would think to look for her. Then again with as many vampires residing here it was a wonder they had yet to pay a visit.
But with Stacey she was safe.
So Dana thought.
Yes xD I have readers o.O it had been so long since I'd updated that I was wondering but I'M GLAD TO SEE YOU ALL.
I love the reaction to Dana's grandmother xD
It WILL still be a Kol/OC xD So I just added that back. I had never intended to mention the vampire who changed Dana, but I'm having an idea as to who it could be. Any guesses?
I'm really excited to really get into Dana's past and introduce some new characters. I was considering later in the story moving into New Orleans, BUT that is farther in the future.
But please leave me a review telling me what you think! I know this was still a smaller chapter, but I'm going to try and get some longer ones out. :)
Happy New Years!
