Hey sorry for the long wait, life got in the way which seems to be the case with many authors at the moment :( Here is another chapter and I hope the next one will be up soon but I can't promise anything since I'm really busy at the moment :( Enjoy though and thankyou for sticking with the story :)
'Damon?' Caroline questioned out of shock causing the vampire to smirk back at her. 'Our Damon?'
'Well I'm not particularly sure about being your Damon but yes blondie I'm vampire Damon and have been here the entire time. Well except for the introductions from this morning which I missed, you know being passed out in a ditch and everything. Thanks for that'. He tried to make it sound like he was fine but Caroline was able to pick up an inkling of pain at being separated from everything. Maybe he thought they had abandoned him.
She pulled him through the door and hugged him tightly. 'We had no idea where you were. I thought maybe you got stuck in a different time period or something. And don't ever do anything like that again, you could have told us it was you!' The punch to the shoulder didn't really hurt the vampire at all but certainly helped calm Caroline's nerves.
Wait, oh my god! Damon saw Klaus kiss me!
This realisation caused Caroline to be a bit hesitant as she backed away from Damon and to the other side of the room slightly. Making sure she was away from both the hybrid and vampire. The two of them hadn't had a chance to talk about Klaus' actions and now Damon was more than likely going to make the atmosphere a thousand times more awkward than it already was. Klaus seemed on edge, either from shockingly defending Damon or the fact said vampire had been there the whole time. Caroline could tell the problem at the moment was going to stem from the two of them both being embarrassed by the events.
'Damon, lovely of you to join us mate. Could have made yourself known though and we could be long gone by now'. Klaus still held an aura of danger and power, it wasn't something Caroline wasn't using to seeing around the hybrid. Whilst she was suppose to be part of the sacrifice, she never actually saw it. The first real time she saw Klaus as the powerful influential hybrid was just now.
'Sorry to disappoint you Mr Micheals. Besides it worked out well for me, you know seeing the mighty hybrid defending the smart ass vampire. The only downside is that I never had the chance to punch you for kissing Caroline without her consent'.
It was like the small hut all over again. Klaus' eyes began to turn yellow, 'it's a hell of a lot better than anything you ever did mate', he actually growled. The animalistic side of Klaus was beginning to show but Caroline was used to such a thing from her time with Tyler. Tyler! What will he think?! She didn't need any more boy drama messing with her head.
Damon looked equally ready to attack when Caroline interrupted. 'ENOUGH!' and then in a quiet voice, that actually scared Klaus and Damon, she sat down on the bed with her back to them 'I have had enough...If you know a way to get us out of here Klaus I suggest you start working on it now'.
Her tone had managed to calm them both down. Klaus was only ever used to seeing the strong, independent Caroline. Even when he had bitten her she had so much fire. Now, hearing the defeated tone in her voice made him feel incredibly inadequate, like he was a huge disappointment to her. From his open expression, Damon seemed to mirror such thoughts. Both silently moved to join her on the bed.
'I'm sorry Caroline for everything that has happened tonight' he spoke with clear honesty and shame at his actions. 'We can discuss such things when we are alone. Until such a time I will leave you to travel with Damon to the next town over, I'm sure he knows how to get there'. Damon nodded, shocked the hybrid was leaving him alone with Caroline. 'I know of a vampire not too far from here that we can trust. She usually keeps company with the strongest witches of the period. I will go to her first to make sure one of her witches can help and then bring them with me to meet the two of you in the next town. We cannot stay here after that downstairs...'
'Plus my human self that I compelled to go to sleep will probably wake up soon. That's gonna cause a family problem when Damon doesn't remember the pre dinner drinks'. Damon's tone was light but he couldn't help thinking about how come morning Giuseppe would have only become angrier and more hateful towards him. 'The best thing is to leave this period as soon as possible so that everyone here will forget us'.
Caroline looked at the two of them. She hadn't been as defeated and weak as she had made out but it clearly worked. Her acting was getting significantly better. She smiled at the two of them lightly. 'Sounds like a great plan. Can you both read minds, that plan seems extremely well organised'.
Klaus chucked whilst Damon smirked, 'Trust me I've been thinking about it since we got here love. Take a carriage to the next town; I will join you as soon as possible'. Klaus nodded to both of them and flashed away.
'Well blondie you heard the man... well hybrid. Follow me we can hijack a carriage from the main road'. Before Caroline had time to even react to that comment, Damon had also flashed away.
'Damon are you sure about this? It really doesn't feel right' The idea that Damon had come up with to get the carriage did not sit well with Caroline.
'Oh calm down Barbie I used to do this all the time with Katherine when I was human. You don't even have to kill the human if you don't want to just get them out of the carriage and fed on them, we haven't eaten in I don't how long. I'm sure your womanly charms will help with that'. Jeez Damon has really turned on the charm. He's even doing the eyebrow thing and everything. Clearly it's been a while since he last got laid. 'Now time to show your acting skills I can hear one coming'.
Caroline knelt on the ground next to Damon who was, for lack of a better term, playing dead. What she didn't expect was him to have not actually begun yet. He grabbed her hand and laced their fingers together. 'I haven't had the chance to apologise for what I said Caroline. I know we never talk about the past but I am so sorry for that aswell. You will never know how much. But what I said about you being 'used goods', God I really didn't mean it I was trying to push Klaus' buttons but I took it way too far. I know I tease you all the time, it's my thing, but I care about you a lot Caroline and I can't stand the idea that you might never forgive me. I needed you to know that'.
Caroline had never seen Damon look so sincere so she knew he truly meant what he said. The tears threatened to spill from her eyes at the kindest words she had ever heard the vampire say. Looking at him now she couldn't help but forgive him. She couldn't even make him suffer for what he had done by making him wait. 'It's okay Damon I forgive you. Just don't do it anymore, I can't and won't take it'. She squeezed his hand before jumping up and running over to the carriage. The tears she had been holding in actually came in handy when acting out her story to the two men and their carriage driver.
'Sir, Sir! Please you must help me. My husband... he... our carriage was attacked and he's badly hurt'. Caroline was trying to make it seem she was sobbing at this point so was taking in sudden broken breathes. Luckily the three men fell for her act.
The carriage driver and the first passenger out of the carriage ran over to help Damon, whilst the last stayed to try and comfort Caroline. The pair heard the screams of the two helping Damon. He had clearly woken up.
'Do not scream or struggle'. Caroline compelled as she pulled the man towards her. It had been so long since she last fed. She usually only drunk from blood bags but she had learnt how to drink from the vein without killing the human. She always felt slightly turned on when drinking from the vein so she tried to think of the most disgusting thing she could in order to stop her from taking to too much. 'You will forget everything about me and what happened here. Your carriage was taking by highwaymen but you cannot remember what they looked like. Now leave'.
Damon came over to her and pushed her against the carriage. In order not to get carried away she gazed at the three men. Thankfully having two was enough for Damon not to kill either but it seemed he was going to keep the carriage driver for them. Damon tightened his grip on her waist before staring it her eyes. Both their vampire faces were out and Caroline was, at this point, ready to attack him. Damon was the one person she had this uncontrollable lust for.
Luckily Damon still had some control so was able to look away from her heated gaze. He wasn't one to ever turn anyone down but he wasn't going to take advantage of Caroline. And I love Elena. He couldn't help gazing at her lips though so focused on the trail of blood running from them. He leaned against her more before kissing away the drops blood at the corner of her mouth. Both were shocked that she hadn't attacked him but Damon wasn't about to push his luck since the consequences would be terrible.
'We don't ever have to mention or think about that ever again if you don't want to. But I don't regret, I always loved being able to be this close to you.I miss it'. Caroline couldn't even breathe, not that she needed to, let alone speak. She nodded at him dumbly which of course caused him to smirk. He bowed before offering his hand before speaking like his human self. 'Your carriage awaits Miss Caroline'. If he was ever going to make up for everything he done to her, it was clearly through following the witch's advice and showin her his humanity. The problem was that no one had ever seen that since he was human, not even Elena.
As he ran at full speed towards his destination Klaus could not hold back the thoughts that began to rush through his mind. Klaus had been worried about leaving Caroline with Damon but he didn't really see any other way that they would be able to return home. The vampire he was going to try and find was very powerful and surrounded herself with power. Wherever she would help or not was an altogether unknown question. The last time he had seen her did not end well for either of them. Well the last couple of times he had seen her had been difficult for both. Klaus did have over a century more than her to get over their problems though. The last time for her had been one of the worst.
England 1536.
Jane Seymour had just married Henry VIII and been crowned Queen of England. Klaus had arrived at court in time for the celebrations. Despite the fact the last time he was an English nobleman was when he first met Katherine and failed to complete the sacrifice, he always enjoyed the entertainment being a court provided. This time round he could easily pass as the son of Lord Niklaus who had been travelling to further his education and experience of life but had returned to court following the lack of communication with his father only to discover the Lords lengthy isolation and later death. Klaus was quick to emerge himself in court life, compelling away any suspicious thoughts on his return. He expected to have fun with the many of ladies at court as he always did. What he did not expect was to develop a complicated, passionate and, what he now realised, a loving relationship. Joanna was a maid at court. She did hold some status as most servants and maids held at court and her beauty gained much attention from everyone. Her bright blonde hair brightened many lives during harsh winters and dull showers. She immediately gained Klaus' attention. The problem was he never gained hers. Or so he thought. He tried to gain her attention, charm her anyway he knew how but nothing worked. So he worked harder for it, his competitive vampire nature coming out for the hunt. What he did not know but would later learn is that Joanna had seen Klaus first but deemed herself to inadequate for someone of his status, wealth and appearance. She did not realise her own beauty and so was very shy around the men that would charm her constantly. She denied their charms, wanting to save herself for the man she really loved. It was hardest to resist Klaus and so their long, complicated history began without either knowing how deep the two of them would truly become involved with one another. Klaus had always kept his emotions in check and switched off, until Joanna. Since then he has always had to pretend he was an emotionless monster.
Klaus sighed as he pictured her beauty and dreaded the pain he knew he would get in his heart when he next saw her. He arrived at the mansion she was rumoured to be living in at this time and discovered some vampires guarding the entrance. The way they reacted to his name made him aware that Joanna had spoken about him. He was shocked when he was allowed to enter the house. She met him in the living room her back facing out of the window. When she turned to face him he felt the familiar sting in his heart. What nobody knew, a secret he had always protected, was that Caroline was not the only blonde he had met that managed to catch his attention and heart.
