Section 9
After awhile of walking around and surveying Kevin's new digs Gia was trying to find Sam or Dean. She came up on Dean eavesdropping in on Sam talking to Kevin and eyed him as well as his brother and Kevin curiously.
"Kevin, I, uh I owe you an apology." Sam cleared his throat, "Um look, when you disappeared and Dean and Gia disappeared, I needed to clear my head, and I'm thinking maybe you were one of the pieces that I should have been there to pick up."
"You've been a hunter since you were a kid, right?"
"Yeah, mostly." Sam answered eyeing him
"Ever since I realized I was a Prophet It's just hard to believe this is actually my life." He shook his head
"Yeah. It sucks right now. I know that. Um, it might suck for a lot longer, but trust me on this- it gets better."
Kevin turned eyeing him with a snide smile, "You know I'm not gay, right?"
Sam laughed, "If we can do this, get the tablet, get you everything you need to close the gates of Hell, there's a world out there where nobody, not Crowley, or any demon, is chasing you anymore."
Kevin shook his head, "I guess I just don't see how I get from here to there."
"I used to not be able to see it, either. But there is a way."
Kevin nodded slowly for a minute but then got up, "Just give me five minutes."
"So now are we eavesdropping on people for fun?" Gia whispered behind him
Dean turned from them, "I didn't want to burst in on the apology."
"Right." She pursed her lips, "Happy with what you hear?"
"It was needed." dean sighed, "Im still not over him not even bothering to look for us."
"The point it we're okay, and Kevins okay, so let's just drop it for now and try to work together." Gia squeezed his arm as she walked past him and into the church with Sam and he followed a few seconds after
Once Kevin gathered all of his things together he walked into the church to join Sam, Dean and Gia but almost as soon as he entered the ground started shaking uncontrollably as the foundation of the church started to break.
Dean looked around at everything, "I think we got company."
Gias eyes centered on the floor breaking all the way down the hall and destroying the devil's trap, "Uh Dean?" she readied her knife
He turned at her voice and followed her eye, immediately he went to the duffle bag, "Sam." He handed his brother the knife similar to Gia's before taking out his blade
Sam gaped at it, "What the hell is that?"
Dean eyed it proudly then his brother, "It's Purgatory."
Gia stepped in front of Kevin, "Get behind me." wound or not she was going down without a fight
Three demons walked in and glared, "Dean Winchester. Back from Purgatory."
"Spanky the demon." He answered swaying the blade, "Yeah, I heard about you. The one who uses too much teeth, right?"
Immediately the three Demons charged them and they all readied for the fight. Gia twisted back narrowly missing the demons attack. Keeping her guard up she instantly sent out a left jab followed immediately by a right one as she was bringing her hand back. She instantly brought her knee up and kicked out as hard as she could to give them distance. The demon yelled advancing again immediately and tackling her painfully to the ground. She pinned her legs around his waist, grabbed his collar with her right hand and grabbed his elbow with her left hand. Uncrossing her feet she placed her left leg on the ground and brought her right knee across his stomach. Quickly she straightened her right knee, scissoring her legs, and sweeping him as she dragged his right arm towards her so she still had the leverage over him. In the same move she mounted him and brought the knife directly down onto the demon's heart.
Her head snapped up as soon as she heard Sam's scream, "Dean!" he was in a choke hold unable to get to his purgatory blade when Sam threw him the demon blade
"Hello, boys. And girl." A familiar european voice sounded from the entrance of the church catching their attention, he was with Channing who had black eyes, "Dean." Crowley grinned evilly, "You're looking well, let's just say Purgatory didn't do you any favors. Where's your angel?"
Dean cut him with a glare as he helped Gia up and pushed her behind him, "Ask your mother."
Crowley chuckled, "There's that grade-school zip. Missed it. I really did." His eyes stopped on Sam, "Moose. Still with the pork chops." He clicked his tongue, "I admire that. And Gia. Well Purgatory did do some good for you I see. Filled out a little more since you've been back."
"Knock it off, Crowley." Dean growled
"Let Channing go!" Kevin yelled
"That's not Channing, Kevin." Dean dismissed, "Not anymore."
"What an awful thing to say to the boy. Of course it's Channing." Crowley shook his head, "Kev. Last time we danced, you stole my tablet and killed my men. Tell you what. Come with me now, bygones." He waved at him, "And I'll let the girl go back to What's-the-Point U."
"Kevin…" Gia grabbed his attention, "You know he's lying. That's what demons do." she shook her head eying the now demon college kid, "You can't trust anything they say."
"Shes right. You won't get Channing back." Dean added, "She's probably dead already."
"Will you please stop saying that?" Crowley waved his hand at demon Channing, "Let the girl speak."
A moment of silence passed as the girls head dropped and the black eyes disappeared, "Kevin?"
Relief flooded his face, "Channing?"
She looked around fearfully, "What's going on?"
Kevin took a deep breath, "There's a demon in you, and you're going to your safety school."
"What?!"
"But it's gonna be okay."
Crowley rolled his eyes bored and unimpressed, "I just - I can't."
"No, no, wait." Kevin yelled as Crowley raised his hand, "Okay. I'll do it."
"Kevin." Gia gasped, "What the hell?"
"Myself for the girl. But this ends. All right? No fighting, no nothing. It ends."
Dean glared, "Can't let you do that, buddy."
"Or what? You'll kill me?" Kevin eyed him before turning back to Crowley, "I'll grab my stuff."
"Chin up," Crowley grinned watching Kevin walk away, "I'm a professional."
"This ain't over by a long shot, Crowley."
"Really, Dean, who writes your stuff? A marshmallow?" Crowley glared then rolled his eyes before craning his neck to look for Kevin, "Come on, Kevin. Chop, chop." He huffed turning to go after him, "Kevin?"
There was an explosion that rocked the foundation of the church before hearing Crowley and his minion yell, "Aah! Kevin!"
"Guys!" Kevin screamed, "Run!"
The three of them tore off towards the exit and towards the impala with Kevin directly on their tails. When the four of them managed to fly into the car and squeal away they witnessed Crowley snap Channing's neck as Kevin looked on in despair.
Pulling into the gas station everything in the car was still tense, nobody really talked and Gias skin was so tight with the tension she nearly flung herself out of the car but decided that might look a little suspect so she quelched the feeling down and waited for dean to answer his ringing cell.
"Hello?" His eyes flicked awkwardly to Sam which caught Gia a little off guard, "Wrong number. Automated jackass." He cleared his throat, "Alright, anybody want anything?"
"I'm good." Kevin answered meekly
"Kevin?" Sam turned, "How you holding up?"
"Awesome." He scoffed narrowing his eyes, "The king of Hell just snapped my girlfriend's neck. How 'bout you?"
"All right, listen to me." Dean turned to Kevin, a little to aggressively for Gias liking, "I'm sorry about your girlfriend, okay? I am. But the sooner you get this, the better. You're in it now whether you like it or not. That means you do what you got to do." When he got out of the car Gia followed glaring directly at him, "What?"
She glared harder at him before slamming his car door earning the same glare in return, "You know, you can be an asshole for no reason sometimes." Turning she walked into the station
Dean took a deep breath then eyed his brother who was watching them, "I'm hitting the head."
Once Gia walked back out she eyed Kevin in the back seat and then Sam pumping gas. Dean was nowhere in sight. She sighed, "Where's your brother?"
Sam turned, "Said he was using the bathroom. Figured you two were in there fighting or something."
Gia nodded pursing her lips and walked around trying to find him, He was probably sulking or something. She rounded the corner of the building and slowed when she realized he was on the phone.
Apparently, sneaking up on him was becoming a thing now.
"Yeah, I hear that. Listen, Benny, not to beat a dead horse. What we did down there is what we had to do. Now, I don't regret it for a second. But you know, maybe until we both adjust, it's best we don't talk for a while."
Benny? He was on the phone with Benny, now? Gia instantly got irritated at the realization. When was he planning on telling her this little tidbit? Because as far as she knew they weren't supposed to have contact with him because of Sam. Which was Dean's rule in the first place! Personally, she thought it was ridiculous. She and Benny were old friends so if she couldnt have contact with him Dean was going to have to play by his own rules.
"One day at a time, just like we talked about, right?" Dean cleared his throat and though she couldn't hear what was being said on the other line she could tell by Dean's body language he was uncomfortable and maybe a little hostile, "What's that?"
Gia leaned against the wall glaring at his back before clearing her throat so he knew she was behind him. When he turned around he was met with her dark eyes and new he was caught. His back stiffened even more, "Listen, you got an emergency, you call me or Gia, you understand?" When he hung up he eyed her, "So is it going to become a normal thing for you to be sneaking up behind me now?"
Her brow rose at him, "Is it going to be normal for you to have secret conversations?" She glared pointedly, "How's Benny doing?"
"Great." Dean snapped, and she could've sworn she seen jealousy sweep through his eyes, "And i'm not having secret conversations. He called me and i didn't want to have to explain it to Sam."
"Why not? What's the big deal?"
"What's the big deal with teaming up with a vampire and bringing him back with us? Really?" His eyes were burning into her angrily
"Yes, what's the big deal! It's not like you and i alone could find a way out! We were there forever, searching to no end!"
"No, we couldn't, but if this was any random vampire that we needed you wouldn't want to keep contact either." Dean scoffed, "You probably would've killed him the moment we were out. Bennys an exception."
Gia couldn't lie that Benny was definitely an exception for her but the way he made it sound was almost like it was because of romantic feelings. Which seriously wasn't the case. Her and Benny would never hook up in a million years. Sure he made known that he was interested when they were in purgatory, and even blatantly hit on her a few times, but she would never go there. Especially as a guardian.
Her eyes narrowed, "What the hell does that mean?"
"I think you know what i mean." He glared harder
She scoffed, "Seriously? You can't be serious. You can't be… jealous? Dean, nothing ever happened with him. Nothing will ever happen with him. So what if he liked me, it's not like I ever reciprocated."
"Thats supposed to make me feel better about a vampire pining after you like we're in a freakin twilight movie!"
"Yes! Why be so mad about something that never even happened!" She screamed back then thrust her hands in the air more than exasperated at this conversation, at his outbursts with his brother, and at his whole demeanor lately, "You weren't this upset when i brought it up to you while we there!"
"How was i supposed to take it, Gia?" He nearly growled at her, "Rip his throat out right then and there? Kinda hard when he's the only one that new about the portal."
"We didn't have to stay with him! We didn't owe him anything at that point! At that point we could've said our goodbyes and went searching for it without him. Which is what i wanted in the first place." Tears were rimming her eyes at this point threatening to spill over but she wouldn't allow it, she couldn't believe he was bringing this up now of all the times, "If you can remember i didn't even want to work with him because i knew how you'd feel Dean."
His blood was near boiling at this point. He loved Gia, he really did, more than anything in the world, but the fact that he had to mash those feelings down about Benny while they were in Purgatory, mixed with the fact that he felt like he owed the guy something after getting them out, had confusion and rage built so high up he couldn't think straight at the thought of the two of them even speaking. Crushes are one thing but Benny, it was like he was in love with her or something and it drove him insane. That's why he told her they needed to cut contact. Not just because he knew his brother would begin to understand but he wanted to keep as much distance between Benny and Gia as he could. He seen the way the Vampire looked at her, dead wife or not, Benny had a huge thing for her. Even if Gia didn't feel the same way about Benny.
Gia took a deep breath and squashed the tears down, "Look. We needed his help, and we got it. What's done is done. I get why you're uncomfortable with the two of us having contact. I get it, but whatever we did to get out whether it was using Benny or torturing mutts or whatever, we had to do it. What's the point in keeping it from, Sam?"
He shook his head dismissing her, "You don't get it."
"Right, Dean." She shook her head, exasperated at him, "Whenever you want to start actually being honest with me i'm all ears. I'm not stupid. This isn't about me and Benny or even Sam. I know Purgatory is eating up at you, for whatever reason. I've been there. You're forgetting i've been trapped there twice. It ever occur to you that out of everyone i'm probably the one you can relate to the most when it comes down to it. When you figure out you can trust me, i'm all ears." Turning on her heels she walked to the impala without another word or glance at him
