Alex bit her lip. She was worried. It was time for one of the tri-annual meetings of the entire 'True Alphas'. Normally, she would be looking forward to the meeting and seeing everyone but there were rumors going on about the meeting. Several elders were rumored to be attending. Being the only female True Alpha, she had to be on her best behavior not to seem weaker than the others. But this also meant that something big was going to happen.
Taking a deep breath, she closed her eyes and tried to relax. It was a long drive to California. Normally, they would have gone by plane but tickets were expensive! She would rather waste money on gas than on airplane tickets. Besides, that way they could pick up some of the other Alphas on the way. At human speed, it would take them two – three weeks. Wolf speed? A week. Werewolves loved speed. It was in their blood.
Alex suddenly felt vibration in-between her legs. Looking down, she saw her phone. Picking it up, she saw that it was Alec.
Hello?
Alex! How far are you?
Another two days. Is everything okay?
I need some advice.
Tell me what's going on
Well, we recently got a new member- Rose. When I first met, my wolf was like pretty. But I already have an imprint- Chloe. It's impossible for me to find another wolf besides my mother, family, or you pretty!
Alec. We are teenagers who turn into werewolves. We happen to lead the biggest packs in North America. Nothing's impossible anymore.
Alec laughed. You have a point. I'll bring it up at the meeting. So how are things on your side of town?
Quiet. The vampires went down to Brazil to visit friends. They won't be back for a month. How's Chloe? Has your brother found his imprint?
Chloe is good. No, Marc is still looking. How's your imprint?
You can't avoid it forever.
Alec!
I will bring this up later you know.
I know.
I have to go. See you in two days.
Alex hung up and bit her lip. What Alec said made her think. She was curious. There was a lot more at play here. She pulled put her phone and sent a text to an old friend of hers.
Can you find me some information about imprints? Past and present?
She didn't expect to get a response right away. She knew that they were busy.
She closed my eyes feeling overwhelmed.
Later on, she felt a pair of strong arms carrying her. She smiled and mumbled "Knight."
She breathed in his scent- axe and hay?" Her eyes widen and she looked up into the smirking face of Nick.
"I'm not him."
She shoved his chest. "Put me down."
Nick began walking. "You still care for him."
Alex frowned and walked faster. "I don't."
"Denial..." he sang.
Alex walked into the house and grabbed a piece of bread. Tossing it over her shoulder, a cry signal that she hit her mark.
She turned to the table and one of the men stood up. Alex ran up and jumped into his arms. He laughed and twirled her.
"Tom! I thought you were still in New York."
"Em and I decided to drive here."
"Em?"
Tom scratched the back of his head. "My mate."
A pretty brunette smiled and held out her hand.
"Emma."
Alex ignored her hand and hugged the girl.
"Finally! I thought that he would never find his mate."
Emma smiled at her and Alex knew that they would be good friends.
Alex sat at the table and Nick served them lunch. After lunch, they all set off the California.
It was about 5pm when they arrived. They all grabbed their stuff and headed to the main building. They rang the doorbell. When no one answered, Alex picked the lock.
They all carefully looked around the house. They wanted to make sure that no was in danger. Alex heard noises coming from a room. She opened the door and then screamed slamming it behind her.
Her cheeks were flushed red and the other wolves stared at her. Mike wrapped an arm around her seeing that she was shaken.
Two minutes later a blushing man walked in. Behind him was a pretty blond. The man was Alec. It didn't take them long to understand why Alex had freaked out.
"I didn't think you would be here for at least a day or two." Alec said blushing.
"I can tell. You know there's this sign. You hang or tie something on your door. Maybe get a Do Not Disturb sign."
Alec stuck out his tongue. Chloe laughed and winked at Alex. "Sure thing."
The two girls hugged and began talking. The guys were left to bring in the luggage to the rooms. Alex, Chloe, and the other girls went to Alex's room and helped her unpack.
The girls all teased each other. Then Alex's phone rang. She grabbed it and rushed to the bathroom, locking herself in.
They could hear murmurs.
"Really?"
"Oh I see. That's interesting."
"Seriously? Could you send me the files?"
"Thanks. Give my love."
She left and ignored the girls' glances.
"Alpha stuff." She knew that would shut the girls up.
It did. They left to get ready for dinner.
Alex got changed and braided her hair. She packed a change of clothes with her and got of the car. She and the other Alphas and their mates were to have a fancy dinner with the elders.
She slide her feet into her heels and looked at herself in the mirror.
Dinner was at a fancy restaurant so a dress was a must. Heels were a necessity because even thought werewolves were tall, she was still shorter than most.
She smiled. She looked perfect. Her black dress made her look sophisticated. She hoped it would distract from the color in her hair. Normally, the elders wouldn't say anything but this meeting was very important.
She stepped out of her room and found everyone else waiting. The wolves with imprints on one side:
Tom and Emma
Alec and Chloe
Chase and Maia
The singles on the other side:
Marc
Nick
Scott
And her.
The couples all slid into one side of the limo and they slid into the other.
Marc who was sitting next to her squeezed her knees. "Relax."
She nodded. She knew she shouldn't be nervous but she couldn't help it. She knew that the minute she sat down the questions, the looks, and the pity would begin.
Her breath caught her in throat as they arrived. The couples went in first then all the boys, she entered last.
Show time.
Alex gritted her teeth. She felt as if her mouth was frozen into a smile.
She hated this meal. It was horrible.
Bad enough, she was a female Alpha, but the fact of what had happened with her and her mate made it worse.
She got questions after questions.
The singles Alphas were left alone, the couples were left alone, but she wasn't.
She knew her situation was unusual, but she didn't talk or think about it.
"Alexandria dear, please sit up straight."
She heard one of the elder's wives whisper. "It's no wonder he left her."
That did it.
She stood up and placed her napkin on the plate. She picked up her purse. She smiled,
"I'm leaving. I shall see you all tomorrow morning. Pardon me but I can't take another second of listening to my mistakes. My mate is off limits."
Then she spun on her heels and took off. Once a short distance away, she slowed down.
She wanted to shift but there was a possibility that one of the Alphas would have too. She didn't people to hear her pity party.
Her eyes scanned the street. She smiled as they landed on a bar. She went in, ordered the strongest drink. She flashed them her fake id.
They nodded and shoved the glass to her. "Keep it coming?"
She tossed her head back and shot it down. One after another.
"Rough night?"
She tensed. You got to be kidding me. She thought.
Two can play at this game.
"You have no idea.
"Tell me about it. I'll buy you a round."
She nodded and didn't look at him as he slid into the seat next to her.
"I'm visiting friends. We are having a dinner with some important people. And I'm their victim. My boyfriend of three years cheated on me with my worst enemy. One of the wives made a comment about it. That's all I heard. About my ex. I don't talk about it ever. And I had to spend two hours hearing them dissect it. Why. Who? What I could have done better."
He gulped. "Sound like an asshole. What's his name? Maybe I can beat him up."
Alex threw back her head and took one last shot.
"Knight. "
He looked at her and his eyes widen.
Alex stood up and walked away, tears burning in her eyes.
She broke into a run as she heard him call her name.
Not tonight. Not every. He may be her mate but he broke her.
You never heard his side of the story. Her wolf said. She ignored it.
She didn't want to hear his side.
She never wanted to fall in love, but she did.
She fell in love with and if she was honest, she was scared. Scared because, deep down she knew she wrong. But sometimes, it was easier if she didn't care.
He was complicated. She was complicated. They were complicated.
One minute they were sweet and the next fighting. But it always lead to them kissing. Even now, they weren't together but they kissed still. She hated it but she loved it.
But whenever he tried to explain she bolted.
She was wolf. Running what she did best.
So she was surprised when he caught up to her.
She wasn't when he grabbed her waist and pushed her against the wall of a building. This was familar.
He kissed her. She kissed back. She felt him shove something into her hand.
He pulled back and growled. "You won't listen. I'm desperate. I'm sorry."
Alex pushed him away and bolted. He wasn't supposed to be vunerable. What happened to the guy who was a jerk to her? Yeah he always tried to apoligize but she ran. It was what she did best.
She ran to the pack house (5 miles away). She was barefoot, had red swollen eyes from crying, and ignored everyone. Locking herself in her room, she jumped into the shower.
Getting out, she blasted her headphones and read the note- it had a website address.
She turned on her laptop and looked it up.
Finding it, she stayed up all night reading it. She ignored the pounding at her door, the yelling, and the screaming.
It was 4 am when she finished.
She looked at the last words and bit her lip, not wanting to cry.
She shoved the computer away and sent a quick text to Leah and Jasper.
"In Cali. Might swing up to see you."
She closed her eyes and let herself break down again. She deserved it. She didn't break down when she saw him kissing her enemy. She didn't break down when her parents died or when she shifted. She didn't when everyone talked about her behind her back. She ignored it. Got drunk, smoked, and partied.
She was good with a mix of bad.
She cried herself to sleep for the first time in years.
She may be an Alpha and a wolf, but she was a girl.
Done!
Just like I promised. I don't know about this. Just seemed to flow out. Originally the dinner and bar scene wasn't part of it and I was just going to go straight to the meeting.
Let me know what you think
