Chapter Eight – All That Glitters…is Flare
After spending the rest of the day,-and taking a break as it became evening and catching a female Roselia, naming her Ibara and then going back to the Daycare to deposit her into the PC-night and some of the early morning battling at the Battle Chateau and becoming a Viscountess and then a Countess, Yosei and I hit the road again.
Today I decided to wear my ruffled black tank top with silver sparkles and white skinny jeans with my black lace up boots. My hair tied in low twin tails with two black ribbons and two plain silver hair clips pinning back the loose hair framing my face. I clipped on my roller skates and secured my white tote bag. I gripped the case containing the Pokémon egg carefully looked down at Yosei.
"Think you can keep up? Or should I carry you somehow?" I asked her.
Yosei answered me by grinning and speeding ahead. I laughed and followed, skating quickly to keep up. A few minutes later I was so into racing Yosei that I failed to notice Calem until it was too late. He had his back to me, not able to see me, so I shrieked in panic, "Calem, look out!"
He turned around confused. I twisted to the right protecting the egg as I crashed right into him. He landed heavily on the ground on his back with an "oof!" sound while I landed on top of him.
"Oww… What hit me?" He moaned holding his hand over his face.
"I did. Sorry." I groaned lifting myself off of him slowly and sat up on my knees right beside him. I was sore from the impact, but I couldn't even imagine how Calem must be feeling, being the one who I slammed into and who broke my fall after all. I started freaking out a bit. "Oh, Arceus, Calem! I'm so sorry! Are you alright? Ah! Wait! The egg!" I checked over the case and the egg inside and sighed in relief. "Thank Arceus...!"
"Yeah. No harm done." He said looking up at me and giving me a dazzling smile. "You got a Pokémon egg? Way cool!"
I blushed bright red, at that moment remembering my earlier conversation with my aunt and what I confessed to her, giving him a weak, nervous smile back and helped him into a sitting position. Yosei whined looking concerned for the both of us. I gave her a gentle pat on the head.
"Are you sure you're okay? You aren't just saying that for my sake, are you?" I asked my right arm still around his back as my left hand rested lightly on his thigh, just above his knee.
"Yes, I'm fine, Seré! I'm a lot tougher than I look." Calem said, smiling reassuringly and then suddenly asked, "In fact, let's have a battle." He glanced at Yosei and his smile widened. "Oh, wow! Yosei's a Sylveon now. That's awesome!"
Still blushing, I stared dumbfounded at him, opening and closing my mouth like a Magikarp. Before I could even think of a coherent thing to say back to him, Trevor and Tierno ran over.
"Hey, are you two okay?" Tierno yelled as they approached us.
"We saw you two collide pretty hard! Are you both uninjured?" Trevor asked frantically.
"We're fine." Calem said and I nodded in agreement not trusting my voice at the moment.
The two still looked concerned as Tierno he helped us both off the ground.
"Well, if you say so…" Tierno said.
"Thank Arceus…" Trevor sighed in relief.
Calem turned to me, "So, how about that battle now?"
"Oh! Uh, sure! If you're really up to it!" I said quickly.
"Yeah! In fact, why don't all of us battle?!" Calem said. "Seré, you and me against Tierno and Trevor!"
"Alright." I said as Trevor and Tierno high fived.
"I thought this would be a good match up since you and I are next door neighbors and good friends already." Calem said. "I figured we'd make a good team."
"I'm positive we will." I said as we all got into battle positions.
I nodded to Yosei who bounded onto the field as Calem sent out his Fletchling. Then Tierno sent out his Corphish and Trevor sent out his Pikachu.
"How about we use no more than two Pokémon each?" Trevor asked nervously since Pokémon battles weren't really his cup of tea.
"Well, I only have one Pokémon but you guys can use two each." Tierno said. "But I don't mind!"
"Are you sure, Tierny?" I asked.
"Yeah, totally sure! I'll be fine with Corphish!" He answered.
"Alright, let's start then!" Calem said. "Fletchling, use Gust!"
"Yosei, combine your Fairy Wind with Fletchling's Gust!"
Fletchling flapped its wings vigorously and created a strong gust of wind while Yosei summoned a sparkly silvery white wind that combined with Gust and slammed hard into Pikachu and Corphish knocking them off their feet.
"Pikachu!" Trevor yelled.
"Corphish! You alright?!" Tierno called out.
The two said Pokémon stood up determined to continue.
"Pikachu, use Thunderbolt on Fletchling!" Trevor commanded.
"Yosei, help out Fletchling with Light Screen!" I called quickly.
Yosei jumped in front of Fletchling and a transparent gold-ish light domed around the two partner Pokémon. Thunderbolt hit the Light Screen and protected the two from the brunt of the attack, although still receiving slight damage.
"Thanks for that!" Calem said smiling at me.
"Uh, y-you're welcome." I blushed a bit and mentally slapped myself.
'Get it together, moron! You're in the middle of a battle!' I yelled at myself in my head.
"Corphish, Vice Grip on Yosei!" Tierno said.
Corphish dashed forward and grabbed one of Yosei's ribbons with its pinchers. Yosei cried out in pain and ran around in complicated patterns, trying to dislodge Corphish.
"Yosei!" I murmured worriedly.
Calem glanced over at me and then back to the battle.
"Fletchling, help out Yosei with Steel Wing!" Calem commanded.
"Not so fast! Pikachu, block Fletchling with Thunder Shock!" Trevor called.
"Dodge it!" Calem yelled.
The Thunder Shock struck right in front of Fletchling blocking it from aiding Yosei.
"Damn…" I heard Calem mutter.
"Calem, when I say 'now' have Fletchling close its eyes." I said.
Calem looked over at me in surprise, but then smiled and nodded before turning back to the field. I felt strangely warm and happy that he trusted me without questioning me. I turned back to the battle watching with sharp eyes for the right moment. It was when Pikachu got closer to Yosei that I shouted my warning. Calem then commanded Fletchling to close its eyes and my immediate command followed.
"Yosei! Take them both out with Dazzling Gleam!" I smirked and then quickly murmured to Calem, "You might want to shield your eyes too."
A bright glittering light emitted from Yosei blinding and damaging Pikachu and Corphish. When the light died down enough for us to uncover our eyes, we saw that Corphish and Pikachu were knocked out.
"That was a very bright idea." Calem snickered at his joke and winked at me as Trevor and Tierno recalled their fallen Pokémon. "But it's not over yet. Trevor still has once more Pokémon left."
"That should be easy enough." I said. "We have the advantage: two against one."
"Yeah. I kind of feel guilty about that though." Calem said.
"I know, me too. But they did say it was okay." I said.
We turned our attention back to the field as Trevor send out Flabébé.
"Yosei, can you still continue?" I called.
Yosei looked back at me and nodded determinedly. Then Calem returned Fletchling and sent out his Bulbasaur.
"Alright Bulbasaur use Poison Powder!" Calem commanded.
The glittery purple powder sprinkled onto Flabébé poisoning it.
"Flabébé, use Psychic on Bulbasaur!" Trevor called.
"Yosei, jump in front of Bulbasaur and use Protect." I said.
A see-through metallic gold dome appeared around Yosei and Bulbasaur as Psychic hit and bounced off the protective shield. Flabébé ceased its attack looking weakened by the poison.
"Now, Bulbasaur use Venoshock."
Venoshock hit Flabébé doing massive damage not only because Fairy types were weak against Poison but because Venoshock does double the damage when the target is poisoned. I decided to issue an attack before Trevor could command Flabébé to attack or worse use a healing move.
"Yosei, let's finish this with Synchronoise!" I said.
Yosei emitted a rainbow like shockwave that hit the entire battle field but only damaged Flabébé since it was the same type as Yosei.
"Ah, Flabébé!" Trevor called as it fainted. "Return."
The battle was over with Calem and I as the victors. I cheered and glomped Calem happily only realizing what I did when he wrapped an arm around me, the other raised in a fist pump, returning my hug with just as much cheer. Although he leaned down to murmur in my ear, "We should tag team more often if I get a hug like this from you after winning every time."
I looked up at him blushed in shock as he looked down at me and winked. I was about to retort when a bright light caught our attention. We looked over at the field to see Bulbasaur evolving. In a matter of seconds its shape changed and the light disappeared leaving the newly evolved Ivysaur.
"Alright!" Calem shouted.
In his excitement he picked me up by the waist and spun me around causing me to laugh before setting me down and placing a quick kiss on my lips. I froze in shock as he released me to congratulate his Pokémon. One of my hands flew to my mouth and my eyes were wide.
'Oh my Arceus! Calem…kissed me! But…he probably wasn't thinking right in his excitement…' I thought sadly.
Trevor and Tierno walked over to Calem to congratulate him and called me over. I took several deep breaths to calm myself before I walked over to the three boys.
"Great battle, Seré!" Tierno said.
"Thanks." I said quietly, lacking my usual confidence.
I saw Trevor and Tierno exchange a quick worried glance and Calem looked over at me in concern. But I noticed another emotion flash in his eyes and a small blush stained his cheeks. He cleared his throat nervously.
"Everyone sure has their own ways of being a Trainer." He said. "The battle was a lot of fun, but we should get going to Ambrette Town."
"Then to Cyllage City to take on the Cyllage City Gym." I said trying to act like usual.
"That's true!" Calem agreed with a smile. "Oh, yeah! I almost forgot. All of us are going to have a beach party on Route 8 first. In fact Shauna should already be there. You're coming too, aren't you Seré?"
I blushed at his gaze on me, but I smiled and nodded.
"Sounds good to me." I said, agreeing.
"Well, Tierno and I are going to go ahead." Trevor said.
"Yeah, we'll see you at the Pokémon Center in Cyllage City." Tierno added.
The two waved as they walked away. There was an awkward moment of silence before Calem cleared his throat nervously again and rubbed the back of his head.
"Seré… Look, I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable. Kissing you…was…well, partially impulsive and also because I wanted to." Calem said turning a bright red. "I mean…to be honest…I'm trying to figure out how I feel about you."
I breathed a sigh of relief as he continued to ramble. I placed a hand on his forearm quieting him and smiled brightly.
"It's okay. I understand now." I said.
He smiled back and placed his free hand on mine. He nodded towards the stairs.
"Shall we go?" He asked.
"We shall." I said. "Oh! Wait! Here, I want you to have this egg."
Calem looked at me with wide eyes, "Are you sure? I mean-"
I pressed my finger to his lips with an amused look and then handed him the case.
"Positive." I said, taking his free hand unconsciously. "I already know what it'll be, so it's fine."
"Alright, thanks a bunch, Seré!" Calem said smiling brightly at me as he squeezed my hand, "You're the best!"
We then starting walking, not letting go of each other's hand. We both paused at the cave entrance, glanced at each other smiling and walked in.
…
We soon found out the path to Ambrette Town was blocked and that there was another entrance to the South that was a shortcut and would take us to Ambrette City. The south entrance was full of Zubats much to my horror and believe me, we made record time getting out of there. We sat on the bottom steps of some stairs on Route 8 trying to catch our breath.
"I don't think I've ever run so fast. Well, minus the time in Santalune Forrest." I said laughing.
"Yeah, I agree." Calem joined in laughing.
He carefully placed the egg container in his bag and stood up.
"So, ready to go?" I asked still giggling a bit.
"Yup, you?" Calem asked back.
"As ready as I'll ever be." I answered.
Calem helped me up, but we only taken a few steps when a sharp female voice rang out, "Hold it! Don't move!"
Calem and I froze in our tracks and looked around with wide eyes. Then Sina and Dexio walked up to us laughing.
"Sorry about that. We didn't mean to startle you two." Dexio said grinning. "How are you and your Pokémon?"
"Uh, good." I said looking annoyed as I narrowed my eyes and tried to calm my racing heart.
"Yeah, same here." Calem said also looking a bit annoyed, but not as much as I was.
"Ever wondered how just one Pokédex covers one entire region as huge as Kalos?" Sina asked.
"It can't! Which is why we're here to upgrade your Pokédexes." Dexio said as he and Sina held a hand out expectantly.
Calem and I glanced at each other, shrugged slightly and handed over our Pokédexes. Sina placed a small disk into a slot on the left side of my Dex and pressed a few buttons, while Dexio did the same with Calem's Dex.
"There all done!" Sina exclaimed proudly.
"The Costal Kalos Pokédex will be added onto your Pokédex's menu under the Central Pokédex. All you do is tap it to access it." Dexio explained.
Calem and I received our respective Pokédexes back. I opened mine with Calem peering over my shoulder and looked at the menu. Sure enough there it was.
"New meetings help both people and Pokémon grow and mature!" Sina said. "Well, we'll be taking off now! Bon voyage!"
"Thank you for the Pokédex upgrade." Calem said as I nodded in agreement.
"Pour vous aussi!" I said.
The two lab assistants then headed back in the direction they came in. Calem and I soon found ourselves pausing on top of a towering cliff that overlooked Cyllage City. The view was really cool.
"Whoa!" Calem exclaimed in awe.
I looked around uneasily, not standing as close to the edge as Calem was. Heights did not scare me as much as spiders and loud thunder did, but it still made me somewhat nervous. Then we continued onward making our way down smaller ledges. On the last ledge I eased myself down but then part of the rock broke under my hand and I fell. I let out a startled yelp. The ground wasn't too far from the ledge. It wouldn't kill me but it would hurt pretty badly when I land. I felt my stop falling, but felt no pain, so I opened my eyes that had closed reflexively and was met with Calem's green eyes. He set me down on my feet and made sure I was steady.
"Are you alright?" He asked in concern and I noticed his voice shake a little.
"Yeah, I'm fine." I said with a reassuring smile. "Thank you for catching me."
"I'll always catch you when you fall." Calem said smiling.
I blushed catching his double meaning and nodded, smiling back at him.
…
After battling some wild Pokémon and Trainers and hoping on stones sticking up in a pit full of mud and sharp rocks we made it to Ambrette Town.
"So, neighbor, this is Ambrette Town. We'll have to go through the aquarium to get to Cyllage City." Calem said. "But first let's check out the Fossil Lab and ask them to teach us about Pokémon Fossils. We might learn something about those strange stones that are related to Mega Evolution."
"Yeah. Good idea." I said and then I got an idea. I looked over at Calem and smirked, "Race ya!"
Then I took off running. I heard Calem yell something like, 'no fair, you got a head start' and bolt after me. I laughed and looked around, finally spotting a sign saying 'Fossil Lab' in front of a big building. I ran inside and made it to just past one of the shelves when Calem grabbed my arm.
"Wait for me." He said smiling as he tried to control his breathing. Once we were able to breathe normally, we continued over to the right side of the room.
A couple of scientists noticed us. The man walked over to us while the woman turned and smiled.
"Accueil! Welcome, future archaeologists!" He boomed. "You were lured in here by the mysteriousness of Fossils no doubt about it!"
"Yeah, something like that. My name is Calem and this is Serena." Calem introduced us.
"Bonjour." I said with a small wave.
"We're studying Mega Evolution. Do you have any knowledge about it?" Calem continued.
The man's expression became even more excited. "Oho! Then you must be the good Professor Sycamore's students. I've heard about you five, especially about you Ms. Sterling."
I gave a tight smile and muttered under my breath quietly, "Lovely… I'm sure you have."
"Mega Evolution, hmm?" He looked deep in thought for a moment. "I'm sorry, kids. All I know is that it is connected to specific stones…"
Calem and I glanced at each other looking a bit disappointed.
"But anyways, since you're Sycamore's students, you must know about Pokémon Fossils, yes?" The man said.
"I know a little bit about them." Calem said and looked at me again.
I shook my head, "I'm afraid I know little to nothing about Fossils of any kind." I said.
"How unexpected…and a little disappointing." The man said. "I would have thought that the Professor's students would at least know the basics."
"Sorry to disappoint." I said shrugging.
"Listen up, then. Fossils are the legacy of Pokémon from prehistoric times! I think you should absolutely go on over to the dig site and see the real thing." The man said and nodded firmly.
"Is that right?" Calem said in a thoughtful tone and shook his head. "Sorry, but if you don't know anything about Mega Evolution…"
"Hold on now, youngster!" The man said interrupting Calem. "Pokémon that are brought back to life from Fossils just may have something connected to Mega Evolution. In fact, one of my assistants in the Glittering Cave might know something about what you're looking for."
Calem looked at me once again, silently asking for my opinion.
"We should go take a look." I suggested. "Might be worth it."
He nodded, "I guess… Since we're here anyways, we might as well go see that assistant and hear what they have to say."
…
We stopped by the Pokémon Center first where I deposited Ibara into the PC. Then we both healed our Pokémon, ate a quick lunch of regular BLT's and water and then headed out. On our way to Glittering Cave we rode double on a Rhyhorn, with me directing it since my mom had taught me how to ride and race Rhyhorns at a young age.
Soon we had stepped inside the cave and believe me when I say it's pretty creepy on the first floor. It was a dark path with only eerie glowing green crystals to light the way. I tensed and grabbed Calem's arm as we made our way further into the maze like cave. Yeah, add the dark to my list of fears… I screamed in fright as something came out of nowhere and flew passed us.
"It's alright, Seré. It was just a Woobat." Calem said.
I nodded but was still shaking both from fright and the cave being so cold. I rubbed my arms both in nerves and trying to warm them. Calem dropped his messenger bag to the ground and shrugged out of his jacket, which he then passed to me. I took it, placing my bag on the ground and slipped into it.
"T-Thank you." I murmured, inwardly happy that I'm wearing Calem's jacket again.
"No problem." He said handing me my bag and placing his messenger bag back across his shoulders.
I held onto Calem's hand as we continued through the maze like paths. We finally came across a hole in the wall and went into it. The next room was better lit up. We took a few steps inside the room and came across a man with orange hair, orange sunglasses, an orange blazer and pants with white on the front and an orange fire like symbol, a white undershirt with a black tie, gloves and shoes, examining a stone on the cave wall. He looked up and over at us in surprise before frowning.
"What's this?" Orange Man muttered to himself. "Well, well, well… Lookie here! A couple of nosy trainers looking for trouble."
"Cal, I don't think he's the assistant." I murmured to Calem.
"I agree. Be careful, Seré." Calem murmured back to me.
"Hey, you two! Listen up!" Orange Man barked. "I'm Landon and I'm a member of the stylish, most fashionable team whose graceful name make people around the world tremble in fear! Team Flare!"
"Really..? Never heard of you." I deadpanned, letting go of Calem's hand to cross my arms.
"You're just a couple of kids, that's why!" Landon sneered. "Team Flare's goal is to make sure that only we, the official members, are happy! We don't care at all about what happens to any other people, Trainers or Pokémon."
"That's just absurd!" Calem said and I nodded in agreement.
"We don't care what you think! Now get outta here! Scram!" Landon snapped. "Don't you two know better than to play with fire?"
"I don't know about you but…" I drawled lazily as I uncrossed my arms and smirked as I let out my Kalos Fire starter. "…playing with fire is kinda fun."
"Careful Seré…" Calem said quietly in concern and slight warning.
"It's alright, Calem." I reassured him.
Landon looked half pissed and half annoyed.
"As much as I hate getting my stylish suit dirty…" He said and I snickered. He glared at me and continued. "But you insisted on becoming a pest, so I suppose you can pay for the dry cleaning when I win."
I scoffed, "Oh dear, but losing just isn't my style." I said in a fake innocent tone.
"Ha, right! I'll destroy you!" Landon yelled and threw a Pokéball, "Give her hell, Zubat!"
"Kasai use Psychic!" I said as soon as Zubat materialized not giving Landon or his Pokemon a chance to attack first.
Psychic slammed into Zubat knocking it from the air.
"Don't give it any chances to counter! Psybeam followed by Psyshock!" I commanded relentlessly.
Both attack hit straight on, the last being a critical hit knocking Zubat out.
"…The hell?! Who is this kid?" I heard Landon mutter in shock. "No matter, Houndour! Take her out!"
"Kasai, return! Kaminari, time to shine!" I said returning Kasai and kissing Kaminari Pokéball before tossing it out into the battle field.
"Houndour use Bite!" Landon commanded
"Knock him back with Electro Ball!" I said not missing a beat.
Houndour yelped in pain as it was thrown back. It struggled to get back up.
"Get up now and use Flamethrower!" Landon yelled.
"Counter it with Thunderbolt!" I called.
Thunderbolt and Flamethrower hit and caused an explosion. The battle field was now covered in black smoke.
"Kaminari, Discharge!" I said.
Kaminari let loose a wave of electricity around the field. There was a cry of pain from Houndour, a thud sound and then nothing. We all waited for the smoke to clear. When it finally did, we saw Houndour down for the count. I called Kaminari back into her Ball.
"It's over already?" I pouted. "That was pathetic. Some challenge you were…"
Landon took his sunglasses off and threw then on the ground before he fell to his knees in defeat, "You may have won, but even in losing I go out in style!"
I high fived Calem as Landon stood back up. He looked me up and down, his sharp yellow eyes intense. I narrowed my own eyes at him, just daring him to try something. He sighed and stood up.
"Hmm… For someone still so young, you're a pretty strong Pokémon Trainer." He admitted grudgingly. "But you better watch yourself now. I'm not the only one in Team Flare. There are Trainers far, far stronger than I am. Especially our Leader… Anyways there are a few more of us in this cave. Later!" He said and continued looking at the stone he was looking at earlier.
Sure enough there was a female grunt named Penny, in a similar look of hideous sunglasses, orange, white and black clothes and orange hair, next who Calem battled and then we ran into two more grunts, a male and a female.
"I'm Samantha and this is my partner Peter. We're the fabulous Team Flare! We put the style in terror!" Sam boasted.
"So we've heard already." I muttered sarcastically.
"Heh, we were looking for some Fossils but we found a couple of kids instead." Peter sneered.
"Serena, there are two of them together this time." Calem said. "Are you ready to partner up with me again, neighbor?"
"You bet, Calem." I smirked grabbing a Pokéball from my belt. "Let's kick some Flare ass!"
"First off though…" Calem murmured and then spoke to the grunts, "If you're truly just trying to make yourselves happy then I won't stop you." Calem said. I looked over at him wondering what he was up to. "But I…no…we will stop you when you're threatening people. Who the hell do you think you are to do so?"
"Shut up, brat! Go Croagunk!" Samantha said throwing a Pokéball in the air.
"Go Scraggy!" Peter said following his partner's lead.
"Time to shine, Kasai!" I said, kissing her Pokéball before tossing it in the air.
"Get ready to battle Frogadier!" Calem called, throwing his Pokéball in the air.
"Kasai, Psybeam on Croagunk!" I commanded right off the bat.
"Frogadier, use Water Pulse on Scraggy!" Calem cried.
Psybeam hit Samantha's Croagunk and knocked it back a bit, while Water Pulse slammed into Scraggy.
"Croagunk, Poison Jab on the Braxien!" Samantha yelled.
"Scraggy, Brick Break on Frogadier!" Peter followed.
"Dodge it!" Calem and I commanded at the same time.
Our Pokémon were able to dodge gracefully but the Team Flare Grunts' Pokémon weren't so coordinated and fell into a heap beside each other.
"Now Kasai, use Flamethrower!" I said.
"Frogadier, use Hydro Pump!" Calem said.
The two Fire and Water type attacks combined and slammed into Croagunk and Scraggy doing massive and critical damage and the two were instantly knocked out cold. Just then a bright sparkly white light surrounded Kasai and Frogadier respectively. Their shapes changed as they evolved into their final forms.
"Delphox!" Kasai cried proudly.
"Greninja!" Calem's starter cried coolly.
Calem did a fist pump and exclaimed happily at the same time I jumped in the air and gave a shout of victory and pride, not only for my newly evolved Delphox, but Calem's newly evolved Greninja.
"Team Flare, go, Team Flare!" Peter cheered but stopped and looked at the battle field when Samantha, looking upset, dug her elbow in his rib cage. He yelped and muttered, "Oh… We lost. Eh?! And their Pokémon evolved?! Guess I should stop cheering now…"
"You've done it now! I'm so upset, I'm think I'm going to cry!" Samantha wailed.
"Oh, boo hoo…" I muttered, calming down.
Calem and I returned our Pokémon to their respective Balls, giving them pride and love filled praise, before clipping them back to our own belts.
"Oh nooooo!" Peter complained, "I got my fashionably and most favorite Team Flare suit filthy! Great, just great!"
"If we can somehow restore Fossils, we can make enough money to get even more stylish suits!" Samantha said perking up. "And we could pay for dry cleaning easier!"
The two grunt ignored us and continued speaking about nonsense. Calem took my hand and pulled me passed them. He looked deep in thought and a little distressed.
"Calem?" I spoke up, but he didn't hear me. Then I spoke with more force as I tugged his hand a bit, "Calem!"
"Huh, what?" He said snapping out of his thoughts. "Oh… Sorry, Seré. I was just thinking."
"So I noticed." I said not unkindly. "What's on your mind?"
He sighed, "We're Pokémon Trainers. Protecting Pokémon is what we do, right?"
"That's right." I said smiling confidently even though I was unsure of where this was going.
But Calem had other plans than to finish what he was talking about. He just nodded in agreement.
"Right." He said and pulled me into walking beside him. "C'mon we still need to look for that assistant researcher from the Fossil Lab."
We continued onward and soon came across a dead end where a man in a white lab coat was facing away from us.
"Is that him?" Calem thought out loud.
"Dunno. Let's find out." I said. "Excuse me, sir?"
The man turned around looking surprised, but then he grinned at us.
"Why, hello there, you two!" He greeted. "Are you both here looking for Fossils too?"
Well, that answered Calem's question. Calem stepped forward a bit.
"Something like that. But first off, was there anyone going by the name of Team Flare here?" Calem asked.
The assistant looked confused, "Teemphlair?" He repeated, not pronouncing the two words right. "What would that be? A Pokémon perhaps?"
"Uh, no… Never mind…" Calem said shaking his head. He then leaned towards me and whispered, "I guess he was so into looking for Fossils that he didn't notice what was going on around him."
I giggled quietly and nodded in agreement. We turned our attention to the assistant when he picked up two rock like things.
"You both are pretty lucky though, because I just had found two Fossils here!" He said, showing us.
"Oh, wow! Really?" I exclaimed, peering down at the Fossils in amazement.
"Yes, but they are both ones that I have already, so why don't you each take one?" The assistant offered.
"Are you sure?" I asked with wide excitement filled eyes.
"Of course! I'll let the young lady pick first." He said to us. "Would you like the Jaw Fossil or the Sail Fossil?"
The Jaw Fossil looked sharp like teeth and gave me the impression of being able to eat anything, which kind of creeped me out. But the Sail Fossil on the other hand was so beautiful and looked to shimmer all seven colors of the rainbow.
"Hmm… I'll take the Sail Fossil." I said smiling.
"Good choice." He said handing me the Fossil in his right hand.
"I'll be taking the Jaw Fossil then." Calem said as the assistant handed Calem the Fossil in his left hand.
"Very good." The assistant said. "Well, I can restore both your Fossils into back at the lab. Be seeing you there!"
The assistant grabbed his tools, equipment and others things and then headed out.
Calem sighed, "Huh… We went looking for the lab assistant and found that suspicious looking group called Team Flare."
"I wonder just what they're up to." I wondered and looked down at the Sail Fossil in my hands. "Though we didn't even get to find what we originally came here for, at least we got our own Fossils."
"Yeah, that's true. But still… Seré, with people like those Team Flare goons running about…it would be smart to train more so we can travel safely." Calem said and then grinned at me. "And one way to do so is to head on over to Cyllage City and challenge the Gym Leader there."
"My thoughts exactly." I said with a smirk.
Well, I guess that even the Kalos region has a team of bad guys. I remember in Kanto and also from what Ash, Gary and Leaf said that Team Rocket was rising up and has even began appearing in Johto where a few more of my friends Lyra, Kris and Ethan lived. Learning about Team Flare has me worried. I hope nothing bad will happen. Little did I know…that in the near future my whole world would be shaken deep to its very core.
End Chapter!
A/N: Battle scenes take the longest for me to type and there were several in this chapter… Wow but this was a loooong chapter at 16 pages, 5787 words. Holy Arceus! It's the longest chapter yet!
Heehee, oh I do love changing things up! Best part of writing a fanfiction! Oh! Does anyone else think the Rich Boy and Lady/Rich Girl Trainers have gorgeous blue eyes? Haha!
Also, as I have inserted in previous chapters, I have made a facebook page for my fanfics, www . facebook Kaylove 75 FanFics (remove the spaces). Please LIKE my page and check it out for news/updates on new/ongoing stories, stories I'm working on, and when I've posted a new chapter in a story, etc. If you're having trouble with the URL it's also posted on my profile.
