"Trying to make someone fall in love with you is about as pointless as trying to control who you fall in love with." -Unknown
o~O~o
Today was going to be a good day. No, it didn't matter that the weather was cold, the sky was cloudy, or even that Rin hadn't answered his phone call that morning.
Sesshomaru was confident that today would be the day his mate fell in love with him. When she kissed him under that mistletoe last night he was confident things would move smoothly from then on.
Straightening his tie, he looked down at the suit he was wearing to make sure nothing was out of place before once again looking out the window of the limo. He had the day all planned out and was positive nothing would ruin it.
And if anyone or anything perhaps threatened to ruin it, he could always kill them.
He recognized the street they were on and watched as the flower shop where Rin worked came into view. He resisted the urge to smooth down his hair, and instead hoped every strand was in place.
He mentally berated himself for acting like a nervous boy getting ready for his first date.
Ridiculous.
Though, he truly had never been on a date before...
It mattered not. He was Sesshomaru. The mere thought that he of all people would ever be nervous was laughable.
Right when the limo came to a stop he quickly got out, straightened his suit once more, and made his way to the shop.
Reigning in his excitement to see his mate, he resisted the urge to tear the entrance door off its hinges and throw it to some far off distance. Instead he quickly, and gently, opened the door. He scanned the shop, ignoring the vast amount of colorful flowers until his eyes landed on the petite figure standing by the cash register.
Golden eyes quickly drifted to surprised brown eyes.
Well, she would have known he was planning on stopping by if she had answered his phone call.
"Prince Sesshomaru," Rin said in greeting as she finished zippering up her coat. She frowned, wondering why he was here and cursed her bad luck. She was just getting ready to leave when he walked in. If she had left sooner she'd almost be home by now.
"Rin." He answered, slightly amused at the way she frowned at him. "Happy to see me I see."
"Delighted," she answered with obvious sarcasm. "It was nice seeing you," she lied. "I'll be leaving now."
Sesshomaru followed closely behind her as she walked out of the small shop. Placing a clawed hand on her lower back, he gently guided her forward a few steps.
"What do you think you're doing?" Rin asked, unable to stop herself from glaring once again at the arrogant demon.
"You will ride with me." He answered simply. "It is too cold for you to be walking."
She only stared at the limo in slight confusion. Is that why he came all the way here? To drive her home?
Before she could ask him, Rin's cheeks immediately began turning a dark shade of red as she noticed people staring. They couldn't help but notice the large black limo. They stared, admiring it before their gaze shifted to the prince and then to her.
She watched as people stopped walking immediately, whispering and pulling out phones, not wanting to miss the opportunity to get a picture of one of the princes up close.
Rin quickly took a step away from both the limo an the prince. She did not want to draw so much attention to herself and hoped more people wouldn't show up.
"No thank you prince Sesshomaru," she said politely, "I prefer walking."
He merely blinked, then nodded before saying, "I will walk with you then."
"You really don't have to," she said as she began walking away, pushing passed the small crowd of people that had gathered.
"I insist." He said as he began following her, growling at the people around them and making sure they wouldn't follow.
He watched closely as she pulled her coat tighter around her small frame. It was obvious that said coat wasn't doing it's job and she was cold.
This was his chance. Sure things hadn't started off as he had planned, but that didn't mean he would just give up.
"Do you wish to stop at a store?" He asked, "I could buy you a warmer coat."
"I like my coat," Rin answered quickly. She didn't need or want him to buy anything for her. Also, the less time she spent with him, the better.
"Very well." Sesshomaru stayed silent for a few moments before remembering his original plan. "Have you had dinner yet?"
"No, not yet," Rin answered as her mind wandered for a moment, wondering what she and her grandmother would have for dinner.
"You will accompany me to dinner then." Just as the words left his mouth, Sesshomaru mentally scolded himself. He was supposed to ask her to go to dinner with him, not order her to.
Oh well, this way would probably work in his favor. After all, who would say no to him when he ordered them to do something?
"No thank you," Rin answered without hesitation. "I'll be ordering take out." The slight surprise that she had actually said no to him left as the reality of what she just said hit him like a ton of bricks.
His eyes narrowed. "You would rather have take out then dine with me?"
Just as they were approaching her apartment Rin turned her head slightly to look at him.
"Maybe." Was her short answer.
Sesshomaru glared at the woman. How dare she refuse his company for...for take out! Was the thought of being in his presence so horrible? Did she truly not wish to even give him a chance?
He continued to glare heatedly at her, ready to voice his displeasure when he noticed she was already opening the door to the building.
"Have a good day prince Sesshomaru," she said as she walked into the apartment.
Sesshomaru growled in frustration, his clawed hands tightening into fists.
'Good day indeed' he thought sarcastically.
(Next Day)
"What the hell's got you in such a bad mood?" Inuyasha said. He stared at the way Sesshomaru seemed to be slouched on the sofa, his face set in a scowl as he read the back of a DVD cover. Since when did he watch movies?
"Leave." Sesshomaru answered coldly as he continued to glare at the DVD case.
Inuyasha ignored the command and simply leaned against the wall, crossing his arms over his chest. He continued to stare at his half brother and couldn't help but wonder what got him so pissed off. He seemed to be in a pretty good mood earlier. Well, as good a mood as he could be in. Even when he seemed to be in a slightly good mood the demon had a frown on his face.
"Did something happen with Rin?" Inuyasha said suddenly.
He watched as Sesshomaru slowly tore his gaze away from the DVD cover and settle his glare on him instead. It didn't bother him though, when you lived with a grumpy demon you get a glare everyday. He was used to it.
What he wasn't used to was Sesshomaru actually answering his question.
"She refuses me." Sesshomaru said angrily, remembering how she acted yesterday when he arrived to the shop. "She ignores my calls, does not notice my advances, and she," his gaze turned deadly, "would rather order take out than dine with me."
Inuyasha would have laughed, hell, he wanted to laugh. It wasn't everyday the bastard was refused something, and to him it looked like Sesshomaru was pouting. Truly it was a sad sight.
"Why don't you just try being with her?" He said suddenly.
"I was with her."
"That's not what I mean ya dumb ass."
"Then explain." Sesshomaru snapped. He wasn't in a very patient mood.
"You know," Inuyasha scratched his head as he tried to think of how to explain what he meant. He was never good at expressing feelings or anything like that. "Why don't you just try hangin' out with her. Ask her what she wants to do or get to know her more. Maybe she just doesn't like the fancy stuff."
Sesshomaru considered this for a moment before his eyes once again narrowed and his frown deepened. "Those are foolish ideas. I have no reason to listen to you, and you are in no position to give advice when you haven't even mated with that woman yet."
Though Inuyasha didn't want to admit it, it was true he hadn't mated with her, but he also wasn't sure how to bring up the topic. And whenever they hung out they had a good time, it just wasn't very romantic. He did try, but it always ended up with them arguing. It was mostly his fault though, he wasn't that good with being romantic or anything like that. He had no doubts about their feelings for each other, but he also wanted to be able to make Kagome happy romantically.
Inuyasha ignored the blush that formed on his cheeks and glared back. "It's better than what you're doing. At least Kagome wants to be around me."
Sesshomaru said nothing and instead went back to looking at the DVD is his hand. He'd never admit to even thinking it, but the half demon did have a point.
His curiosity piqued, Inuyasha moved a little closer just so he would be able to read the title.
His face paled while a look of horror formed on his face.
Pointing a shaking finger at the offending item, he stuttered, "Th-that's a chick flick!"
Inuyasha's horrified look suddenly morphed into one of concern. As much as he disliked the bastard, there was obviously something wrong here. "What the hell's wrong with you? Are you sick? Are you dying? Have you finally gone nuts?"
Not looking away from the DVD, Sesshomaru answered, "Silence fool. I am fine."
"Then why the fuck do you have that?"
"It is research."
"The hell do you mean research?"
"It will provide useful information on how to..woo a woman and be..romantic."
Inuyasha considered this for a moment. He looked at the DVD skeptically before asking, "Where'd you get that idea from anyway?"
"Your mother." Sesshomaru answered. "Apparently she thought I needed her assistance and left this on my sofa with a note saying it would help me."
Inuyasha wondered if the movie would actually help. He had never actually watched one. Kagome had tried to get him to watch one but he had quickly fallen asleep. He supposed there would be no real harm in at least watching it, and if it really did have any useful information than it would benefit him as well.
Mind made up, he sighed and moved to sit on the sofa, ignoring another glare from Sesshomaru.
"Hurry up and put the damn thing on."
