Emily couldn't breathe. This was horrible. Who was this girl and why was she talking to Paige? She had so many different emotions rushing around inside of her it was making her feel nauseous. So nauseous that she was convinced she was going to be sick.

Just as she was about to turn and run back to the restrooms, the mystery woman got up from her seat. She took a few steps forward then stopped, muttered some more words to Paige and then left.

Emily thought it best to go back to the restrooms, cool herself down and then go back to the table. At least this way there wasn't a possibility of her lunging towards the mystery woman as she walked out of the door.

After the long stare in the mirror and the sensation of cooling water on her face has taken effect, Emily took a deep breath and walked slowly towards to the table where Paige was.

At a quick glance, Paige seemed twitchy and uncomfortable, but once she had noticed Emily was nearly sitting down in front of her, her body language changed dramatically. Emily thought the best approach would be to play dumb. Act like nothing happened and see if Paige broached the subject herself.

Part of her knew that that was never going to happen, but maybe that was for the best?

"Hey!" Emily said, as cheerful as she could muster up, sitting down in the booth and taking a sip of her drink.

"Hey you, you were gone for a while." Paige replied, looking over her glass at her.

"I guess, looked like you had someone to keep you company though." WHAT? Well there goes the whole 'better left unsaid' approach.

Paige's eyes bulged as the realisation hit her. Quickly gaining composure, she took another quick sip of her drink.

"I…um…Emily…I" Paige spluttered, losing the words before they could even leave her mouth.

Emily hadn't heard anything and she had already had enough. Before she could blink she had grabbed her bag off the seat and was heading for the door.

She felt someone grab her arm and turn her back around. No guesses who that was. She turned around reluctantly.

"Emily, listen. Please just sit down, I'll explain everything to you. Please." Paige pleaded.

And for the exact reason why she didn't want to turn around, seeing the pain in Paige's eyes cut deep. Her face was drained of colour, something was seriously wrong. Despite how angry she was, she inhaled, and then pulled her arm away from Paige's grip sharply.

"You have five minutes." Emily said with no expression in neither her face nor her voice.

After walking back silently the booth, she sat opposite Paige, who was taking a gulp of her drink.

"I don't even know where to start." Paige explained, searching Emily's face for a hint of compassion.

"The beginning." Emily replied, bluntly.

Paige took a deep breath in. If she was going to explain this, she needed to do it right, and fast.

"I love you. I would do anything for you and I know that when I tell you this you're going to hate me, and I'm going to lose you all over again and that scares me to death…" She paused briefly, fighting back the tears that had suddenly appeared behind her eyes. "When we broke up, I went off the rails. I felt like I'd lost everything, everything I'd ever worked for and everything I'd ever wanted. You were…are…everything to me."

Emily's eyes were blurry with tears too, even though she was incredibly angry at her, she knew deep down there was a serious meaning to whatever Paige was explaining. That scared her more than anything, the thought that the words leaving Paige's mouth could be the end of them altogether.

"I felt like my entire world had caved in. You were all I thought about, every day. The first thing in the morning and the last thing at night. It used to be such a gratifying feeling, but after you left, it was the most pain I had ever felt. When you were gone, I met someone. We had a short fling, but it turned bad."

"Bad in what way?" Emily asked, her hands shaking.

"She was possessive, and jealous. She knew things…things that she shouldn't have known. About me, and you and a whole bunch of other stuff."

"About A?"

"No. Nothing about A. I think she had spent so much time checking up on me that she knew me inside out before I'd even had the chance to tell her anything about me. The truth is, Emily, she was a rebound. A terrible mistake I made when I was mourning the loss of what we had. It meant absolutely nothing, in the end it just made me miss you more. It was pointless and I hate myself for it."

"So why was she here?"

"She won't leave me alone. I had to lie and tell her I was here on a family outing because she would have ripped this place apart if she'd have known I was on a date."

"Do I know her?" Emily asked, her nerves calming slightly.

"No, I would never do that to you. Ever." Paige explained, and at that point a tear escaped from her eye.

"I'll tell you what Paige…" Emily began, he back straightening as she altered her posture, "The truth of the matter is, we were apart, and I had no intention of ever dating you again. You had every right to find someone else."

Paige looked completely confused, "no, no, you're missing the point Emily, it didn't mean anything to me, I swear!"

"No, you're missing the point. It's okay…"

Paige stared at her, completely silent.

"Next time she turns up, tell her the truth. Tell her that you are on a date, with someone who loves you more than life itself. If she decides to tear the place apart, let her, because she will have to get through me first…"
