Hey everyone! Haven't updated in sooo long but I'm back! Even though I was horrible to you, please read and review!
"Hey, Rima," my best friend greeted.
His voice sounded hoarse when I walked in to his house. Moving closer to him, bruises, which were starting to turn purple and black, decorated his cheeks, chin, and right eye. He was lying down in his bed, underneath thick covers.
"Nagihiko," I said in shock. I couldn't find anything else to say.
He chuckled. "Surprised?"
Instead of laughing with him, my throat ached, and I could feel water pooling around my eyes. Seeing the sight, Nagihiko patted my head soothingly.
"Hey, it's not your fault," he whispered comfortingly. "Really, it isn't."
"But, it is!" I burst out. "If I didn't reject Kirishima's proposal, you wouldn't be in this mess!"
His eyes looked about to pop. "Proposal? What proposal?"
Oh, right. I still haven't told him.
I drew a big sigh. "Kirishima...well, let me go back to the beginning. When I was taking a break from skating, his best friend, Amanda, approached me and said that Kirishima has liked me ever since I transferred. So, he told her to ask me if I wanted to go out with him. I was about to say yes, but then…well, I changed my mind and no," I told him breathlessly.
Nagihiko was silent for a while, but his face turned grim when I said that Kirishima asked me out. Finally, he answered, "Well, that seems to answer everything."
"Yeah," I chimed in, and then continued, "but why would he fight you today?"
Nagihiko looked at me in shock. "You mean…you don't know?"
"Don't know what?"
For a moment, we just stared at each other. My eyes were pleading him to answer my eyes, but his eyes- to me- were soft and almost looked..lovingly?
"Never mind," he sighed. "But, really, Rima, it isn't your fault that Kirishima did that. I don't blame you, I promise."
I just continued to look at him before I finally replied, "Fine. But I'm still sorry, Nagihiko."
He chuckled, and this time I noticed it sounded so lovely and melodic. "I forgive you, Rima."
I smiled at him and then turned to the television in his bedroom. "So…video games? I could use a little action myself right now."
He grinned. "Sure. As long as it doesn't hurt me."
"Well, the only thing that's going to get hurt is your kill streak!"
"Oh, you've done it now!"
Our laughs melted together as one harmony as we reached for the remote and started our favorite game.
The Next Day
School was uncomfortable. No, scratch that. It was really, really, AWKWARD. When Nagihiko and I both walked in Ms. Ran's classroom, the class went silent. We sat in our seats as fast as we can.
"Hey, look! It's the married couple!" Juniper, a girl in my homeroom, shouted from across the room. A few girls giggled, and the boys smirked at Nagihiko. I felt my face turning bright red, and I was about to retort when Ms. Ran walked in the classroom.
"Good morning!" she greeted us. Then, she caught of Nagihiko and gasped. "Nagihiko? What are you doing here?"
"Umm..attending school?" Nagihiko answered hesitantly. The girls giggled again.
"Why, I can't believe it," she began in a shocked voice, "I thought you might have transferred out."
"Well, I was thinking about it. But then," Nagihiko looked at me before continuing, "I decided not to because that would really hurt my best friend.
Again, I could feel a blush creeping on my cheeks. The girls around me whispered and pointed before Ms. Ran told them to stop and continue their bellwork.
"Nagihiko, Rima," she called out, "See me after class."
A boy shouted "Oooo they're in trouble" but Ms. Ran silenced him with, "No, they're not, Jadyn. In fact, I'm pretty sure they'll never get in trouble so how about you just keep working?"
The boy shut up, much to my glee.
"Rima, do you like Nagihiko?" a high pitched voice asked.
I turn around and saw one of my classmates, Alannah, looking at me. Her voice seemed nonchalant enough, but then I saw the fiery "I'm curious" look in her eyes.
"N-No," I faltered.
She sighed. "Well, ok. But just so you know, rumors are already surrounding you."
I can't believe it. Rumors?
"Well, don't believe them," I said, no, more like commanded her.
"Ok. But," she hesitated for a second before continuing, "It's kind of hard not to believe them."
She quickly left before I could even answer her.
So I sort of left that hanging, but I just want you know that this story will get pretty interesting from now. So, hang on to your seats!
