Chapter 7: New Chance

When the sun came up that day, Kurt had felt as if the whole tension he had constantly held on his shoulders was lifted, and all his worries had dissolved, it had been so long since he had told anyone about his past, let alone willingly told anyone, he had to tell his therapist, but with Blaine he had a choice, and it felt good to have a choice in life.

And now as he opened his eyes and blinked, reaching a palm up to rub the sleep out of his eyes, he noticed he wasn't alone, right behind him, holding him close to his chest with an arm wrapped securely around his waist while the other was thrown over his chest, his hand intertwining with Kurt's left hand that was right beside his face on the pillow. He could feel the warmth radiating from Blaine, and not only warmth, but the feeling of serenity and security. He felt safe, and loved for once. Yes his parents and family loved him, but this was the first time a boy let alone a boy who had still thought Kurt was beautiful and worthy of love after his horrible past; he was surprised and mildly relaxed somewhat, he wanted Blaine to know… and though it was a scary thought, but somehow, leaving Blaine, or losing him felt scary, he just wanted Blaine to always be there. And hold him in his arms and tell him he's not alone, that's all he wants, and always wanted… love.

He wasn't so certain if what Blaine was doing to help him was out of love? Self-pity? Sympathy? Concern?

But he could careless; he just didn't want a broken heart.

As he adjusted in Blaine's arms he realized the boy was already awake and was looking down at him, his eyes focused on Kurt's face, staring intently at him.

"You know, it's nice being held in someone's arms, but it's weird when that someone is staring at you like that and hasn't even said good morning." Blaine said, making Kurt blush furiously at being caught staring at Blaine, Blaine opened his eyes and smiled at Kurt who blushed further, looking away from the bad boy.

Kurt stuttered to make a sentence as he said "Oh… I… uh, yeah, good morning."

Blaine smiled and sat up, looking at Kurt with still red puffy eyes, a reminder of him crying last night in Blaine's arms "How are you feeling?" Blaine asked, taking Kurt's hand in his.

"I have a headache but I'm good… thank you, Blaine… for last night." Kurt said, finally looking up to meet Blaine's eyes.

"Don't thank me, you needed it as much as I did." Blaine said truthfully, Kurt sighed and nodded, closing his eyes he rested his head against the headboard.

"Kurt?"

"Yeah?"

"Can I ask you something?"

"Mhmmm."

"For once, just for me… I… I want to see the old you, the real Kurt." as soon as Blaine had said that Kurt opened his eyes, with fear crossing through them, Kurt's face paled and he sighed as he said,

"Blaine-"

"If you don't want to its okay, I don't want to pressurize you." Blaine said.

Kurt looked at Blaine's face, seeing nothing but total honesty and understanding and for Kurt, that was one look that was hard to come by especially after the way he was treated "okay" Kurt breathed.

"Okay?"

Kurt nodded, forcing a smile as he said "Yeah… I uh… you want to see me now?"

Blaine nodded "Yes… besides we have to leave for school in a while so its best we hurry up before your dad finds me in here."

Kurt was looking over himself in his full length mirror; he ran a hand over his Burberry coat, and his gray vest that had chains dangling from the side pockets and a pocket watch, wearing pure white skin tight jeans and black and white doc martens with a bow tie. His face had no trace of makeup, and his hair was perfectly styled and no hair out of place.

He couldn't do this, seeing his old self there was still the glimpse of his current broken state, and not to mention the memories that began haunting him once again.

He let out a sob and covered his face, hiding his face from seeing his old self in the mirror.

Apparently Kurt hadn't noticed how loud he was being, and he heard Blaine knock on the door before peering inside to find a curled up figure of Kurt against the bathtub.

"Kurt?" Blaine said rushing over to Kurt and kneeling down in front of him, reaching out to carefully touch Kurt's tear stained cheek.

"I can't do this right now Blaine, I-I can't." Kurt said shaking his head as he covered his face in his hands.

Blaine scooted closer to him and wrapped his arms around Kurt's shoulder, kissing his hair as he whispered in the trembling boy's ear "Its okay, Kurt, you don't have to do anything you don't want to."

"I'm sorry…"

"Don't apologize Kurt." Blaine said holding Kurt tightly in his arms.

"But… I'm just so… I want to Blaine." Kurt said after his sobs finally died down, Blaine said nothing and just held Kurt in his arms until he had calmed down, he was about to move when there was a voice coming from Kurt's bedroom door, his father was calling him, Kurt took a shaky breath and told him he was awake.

"I have to go Kurt." Blaine whispered to Kurt, just in case his voice won't be heard by Burt.

Kurt looked disappointed but didn't let it get to him, as he nodded and stood up on his feet with Blaine's help "Okay."

"Will you come to school?" Blaine asked.

"Maybe." Kurt mumbled looking down at the tiled floor of his bathroom.

"Bye, Kurt." Blaine said, leaning in to give a peck on his cheek before he walked out of the bathroom and climbing out the window. Kurt sat there in the bathroom his reflection still visible in the bathroom door full length mirror. He wanted to be brave, the old Kurt Hummel didn't care what people thought of him, then why did this Kurt care.

He needed to be free from his tortured past, and he knew how to, the truth was he was scared to.

"Seriously Blaine! We both have the best vocals in glee club! Its bound we do a duet together" Rachel said, it had been three days since Blaine and Kurt had the talk, and Kurt still hadn't showed up.

"Rachel the last thing I want is to do a duet with you, and I know why you want to do that, you just want to make Finn jealous." Blaine said huffing and shoving his things inside his locker, ever since he arrived at school Rachel hadn't stop insisting Blaine to sing a duet with her.

"No I don't!" Rachel defended herself.

"You know he slept with Santana, and you want to get him back by singing with the bad ass, so forget it!" Blaine said sharply, and glared back at Rachel.

Rachel groaned "Come on Blaine! I'm beg-OH MY GOD!" Rachel gasped a hand flying over to her mouth as her eyes went wide and the whole hallway went silent, the kids frozen on spot as they looked at the entrance door, Blaine arched an eyebrow at their reaction and turned to see what it was about and to only be put in shock himself.

Standing in the hallway was none other than Kurt Hummel, but the only difference was he wasn't in his skank attire.

He was dressed as the Kurt he saw in the pictures, the old Kurt. And he looked absolutely, stunningly beautiful.

Blaine eyes softened in awe as he looked at Kurt. He was dressed in a red high neck that fitted around his body and reached to cover his hips, the sleeves were slightly long and reaching his fingers, he wore white skin tight pants and white boots, what was different was that he had no pink hair dye in his hair and his face had no amount of makeup on it, he could vaguely see the dark circles surrounding Kurt's eyes, but other than that… he was gorgeous, and Kurt.

Kurt looked scared as he looked around noticing people staring, it was a mistake, he shouldn't had come back, he should have stayed home, who was he trying to prove? Kurt took a shaky breath to control his tears and turned around, opening the door and running outside towards his car.

He had barely made it across the parking lot, when someone grabbed his sweater from the back and pulled him.

Kurt exclaimed, in panic thinking someone was going to attack him, he dropped to the ground and covered his head in fatal position as he said trembling, and crying "P-please don't h-hurt me!"

"Kurt, it's me." Kurt looked up at the sound of the familiar voice, and felt more tears rolled down his cheek.

"B-Blaine?" Kurt said looking up at Blaine and letting out a sigh in relief.

"I'm so sorry for grabbing you like that, but you wouldn't stop, and weren't listening when I was calling you." Blaine apologized, taking Kurt in his arms.

"I'm sorry." Kurt apologized, wiping his tears from the back of his hand.

"Hey, come here." Blaine said holding a hand out which Kurt hesitantly took and wiped his tears from his sweater sleeve, Blaine smiled at him and pulled him in a hug, letting Kurt melt in his arms and bury his face in Blaine's neck as he held his jacket tightly in his hands, Blaine could feel tears on his neck as well as the cold skin of Kurt's face but he didn't mind it, he simply rubbed the taller boys back as he whispered, "You're safe now, no one is going to hurt you."

"I wanted to go Blaine, I can't! They were staring! I'm too much of a coward"

"You aren't Kurt!"

"I am that's why I hide myself with tons of liner and makeup" Kurt said as he shook his head his hands balling in Blaine's jacket.

Blaine cupped Kurt's face in his hands as he said, looking directly in his blue eyes "And I hated that Kurt, this Kurt, is the real you… and you… you're so beautiful Kurt, when I saw you just now… it's… it's like… I've been looking for you forever."

Kurt sniffled and bit his lip as he said, looking away from Blaine and letting his insecurities get the best of him "Blaine… y-you don't mean that."

Blaine hooked his finger under Kurt's chin and lifted his face up so he could look him in the eyes and say "I do… and I'm going to help you, I'm always going to be around and no one will hurt you, I'll help you get through this Kurt, just please, let me."

"But the kids-"

"Won't hurt you, let them see, let them know they can't hurt you, they can't hurt us… courage Kurt."

"Okay."

It was a week since Kurt had started slowly going back to his old self, his father could see the difference, he had dyed his hair back, he took off the piercing, and changed his wardrobe, he even once spotted him taking out his old clothes, then had borrowed his dad's credit card to order his expensive organic creams. It was good to see his son back.

And for Kurt, it was all Blaine's doing, whenever Kurt reached the parking lot, he waited for Blaine, and when he saw the boy pull in the parking lot, Kurt would wait till Blaine walked towards Kurt's SUV, Kurt would get out and take Blaine's offered hand.

They would walk hand in hand with Kurt close to Blaine, and his head down, Blaine would glare at any person who would look at Kurt, and would put an arm around Kurt's shoulder when a jock came, it wasn't long until Kurt had started to adjust to being himself again. There was that time when Blaine saw the jocks cornering Kurt with slushie cups in their hands and luckily for Kurt Blaine had just exited the glee club to find Kurt curled up in the corner, Finn, Puck, Blaine and the rest of the guys ran down the hall and pulled the jocks away. Blaine took Kurt in his arms and soothed him as the guys got rid of the jocks.

Kurt looked at Blaine, who was too distracted watching the jocks stalk away, and for the first time, he saw not only the bad boy as a boy he had slowly started falling for, but he saw a boy who was his savior.

As Kurt sat outside saying goodbye to the skanks in the courtyard and waiting for Blaine who had asked to meet him here, the skanks weren't upset but were supportive, Lauren had hugged Kurt and gave him her bracelet. Kurt was just in the minute of hugging her when he heard Blaine calling his name.

When he looked up at the steps of the courtyard he saw Blaine standing with a band and the new directions with smiles on their faces.

"Kurt Hummel… this is for you." Blaine yelled and pointed at Kurt as the music began.

Yeah it's been a bumpy road
Roller coasters
High and low
Fill the tank and drive the car
Pedal fast, pedal hard
You won't have to go that far

Blaine walked towards Kurt as he sang, it was unusual for Kurt to see Blaine like this, happy, and dancing around, it was unusual but it was wonderful sight to see.

You wanna give up cuz its dark
We're really not that far apart
So let your heart, sweet heart
Be your compass when your lost
And you should follow it where ever it may go
When it's all said and done
You can walk instead of run
Cuz no matter what you'll never be alone (never be alone) oh oh
Never be alone oh oh

Forgot directions on your way
Don't close your eyes don't be afraid
We might be crazy late at night I can't wait till you arrive
Follow stars you'll be alright

You wanna give up cuz its dark
We're really not that far apart

Blaine had jumped down from the steps and took Kurt's hand in his as he started singing and walking around the courtyard.

So let your heart, sweet heart
Be your compass when your lost
And you should follow it where ever it may go
When it's all said and done
You can walk instead of run
Cuz no matter what you'll never be alone (never be alone) oh oh
Never be alone oh oh

You wanna give up cuz its dark
We're really not that far apart
So let your heart, sweet heart
Be your compass when your lost
And you should follow it where ever it may go
When its all said and done
You can walk instead of run
Cuz no matter what you'll never be alone (never be alone) oh oh
Never be alone oh oh

Blaine was now face to face with Kurt, as he took a step closer to him he sang,

When its all said and done
You can walk instead of run
Cuz no matter what you'll never be alone

Kurt was smiling, after a whole week of feeling worse about himself Blaine felt pride that he made Kurt smile again "That was-"

Blaine didn't let Kurt finish as he started rambling "It was a solo week in which we had to dedicate a song to someone, so I thought that why don't I dedicate it to you; before you say anything, I just wanted you to know that first it's been a week, and a tough one I know, but I just thought that maybe, even though you have a lot going on right now, I was wondering, if you wanted to go out with me."

Kurt's eyes went wide as he repeated Blaine's words over and over again in his head before managing to ask if he heard Blaine correctly "G-go out?"

"You know, like a date." Blaine said, shrugging and trying to hide his nervousness which was unusual for the bad boy because he didn't do this, and strangely Kurt was making Blaine do many things the bad boy thought would never do, such as… fall head over heels for the porcelain beautiful blue eyed boy.

"You want to take me out… on a date?" Kurt asked, feeling as if he was on cloud 9.

"yeah… please say yes" Blaine insisted his eyes wide and full of hope, and Kurt could definitely not deny it, that deep down this is what he was waiting for all along.

"I've never been asked out on a date before… n-not even by him."

"So is that a yes?"

"Yeah…I'd love to"

"I'm falling for you, Kurt Hummel"

"I thought you didn't do this"

"I didn't… but I just can't stop myself when I'm around you, I never wanted to admit it but you're everything I wanted, and I just can't stop myself from falling in love with someone so pure and beautiful like you"
