Hello again! I am so sorry for the long wait. Anyways, here's the next chapter. I hope you enjoy it! Just so you know, there will be a time jump in this chapter. I do not own Twilight.
Jasper rubbed his arm where he had just gotten a fresh scar. Today had been some difficult training with the newborn army. He had taught the newer members how to fight in hand to hand combat. In the month that he had been bonded to the Volturi, he had managed to control an army of thirty newborns. Caius often stalked Volterra in the night and created new vampires and brought them back for Jasper to train. Caius, Felix, and Demetri often observed and helped Jasper train the newborns, after Jasper taught them all that he knew. Sometimes, the four members would spar against one another to demonstrate the proper technique to the newborns, and Jasper would win every fight.
"Good work today, Major!" Caius praised as he and Jasper walked down the corridor to the main chamber.
Tonight, it was Felix and Demetri's turn to watch over the army for the night. Even though Jasper was a way, he used his gift to keep the newborns calm so they didn't cause any trouble.
"Thank you, Caius," Jasper mumbled.
This entire month with the Volturi had been pure torture. He had been forced to follow the three leader's every command. Even if he didn't want to, his body would not obey his heart. He was also forced to be loyal and not resist against any of the other guard members. Jane took the most advantage of this.
"We are about to start feeding, so..." Caius trailed off.
"Got it," Jasper said.
Jasper navigated away from the main chamber and down the corridor toward his room. Since Aro was very pleased with the results of Jasper's work, he did not force Jasper to participate in the feedings. After all the humans were dead, Aro would just bring a goblet of human blood for him to drink. He wasn't looking forward to it, though. All he could think about was how disappointed Carlisle would be in him. He sighed sadly and continued walking down the corridor. To his horror he saw Jane approaching him.
"Hello, Major," she greeted sweetly. She grabbed his arm and pinned him to the wall. She then whispered, "I missed you today."
She crushed her lips to his. She kissed him passionately until Jasper found a chance to break away.
"Jane, you know I have Alice. You know I have absolutely no desire to be with you!" he yelled in a hushed tone.
Jane smiled and Jasper felt a sharp stab of pain coarse through him, sending him sliding down the wall and onto the ground. She loomed over him triumphantly.
"But Alice isn't here, now is she?" she asked in a taunting manner, "You will never see her again or any of the Cullens. You are here with me forever, Jasper. You better just get used to it."
She skipped merrily to the main chamber. Jasper quickly got back to his feet and entered his room. He sat down on the bed and buried his face in his hands. He felt horrible when Jane made her advances on him. He was bonded to all members of the Volturi, so there was nothing he could do to stop her, even though his heart wholly belonged to Alice. His head snapped up when he heard a knock at the door.
"Jasper, it's me."
Jasper opened the door to reveal Ather.
"Please, come in," Jasper said as he stepped aside to let Ather in. He was about to shut the door when Marcus came strolling down the corridor. "Marcus," he acknowledged.
Marcus gave no sign that he even realized Jasper was there. Jasper shrugged it off and closed the door. He enjoyed talking with Ather. Ather allowed him to vent about how much he missed Alice and the rest of his family. He would also tell him things he might need to know about the other Volturi members. Jasper saw a real friend in Ather. He made his time with the Volturi less miserable.
"I hear the progress with the newborn army is going well," Ather said.
"Yeah," Jasper mumbled.
"I heard so from Marcus," Ather explained, then he looked uncomfortable, "Jasper, I don't know how much you're going to like hearing this, but there are some things you need to know about Marcus."
Jasper raised his eyebrows, a sign for Ather to continue.
"I've noticed a lot about him since I work with him the most. He isn't as evil as you think he is."
"I'm sorry, Ather, I have a very hard time believing that. He tortured me horribly when I was first brought here and he threatened to force me to watch as the Volturi destroyed my family."
Jasper's tone held no malice, but the disbelief was obvious.
"I know that, Jasper, but you have to know that Marcus completely throws himself into everything that he does. I asked him why, and he said that whenever he completely involves himself into whatever the Volturi is doing, it takes his mind off Didyme. Even though some of the more vicious acts are hard for him to participate in and he doesn't always agree with it, it takes some of his pain away."
Jasper actually felt like he understood Marcus. He knew what it was like to not have his mate with him, but at least he knew that Alice was alive. He couldn't imagine existing in a world where she didn't.
"That being said, I know some information that might change his heart completely," Ather continued before there was a knock at the door. "I'll tell you later," Ather mouthed.
Jasper answered the door.
"Ah, Major! So wonderful to see you!" Aro greeted with a goblet of blood in his hand. "Drink this one your way to the main chamber, I want you to give the rest of the Volturi a full report on your progress with the newborn army!"
Jasper left his room, wondering what secrets Ather was harboring inside him.
Bella gave a loud cry of pain as her spine broke. Carlisle rushed to Bella's side and lifted her up on to the medical table he had set up. It had been a month since Edward and Bella had arrived to the rebels' headquarters, and all of the rebels had been very supportive and helped them through Bella's pregnancy.
Now the time had finally come. Carlisle ordered everyone to evacuate the area he had set up for Bella. Only Edward and Alice remained. Carlisle looked Bella over and came to a terrible discovery.
"The baby has broken too many of her bones. The only way it will survive is if I cut it out of her," he stated grimly.
"GET IT OUT!" Bella screamed.
Carlisle turned to Edward.
"She wants to save this baby, so I'm going to cut it out of her. After the baby is out of her stomach, you need to inject your venom into her heart. Since the baby broke her spine, she would be paralyzed if she even survived this birth. "
Edward nodded. Carlisle shuffled through his medical supplies and found his scalpel. He sighed sadly. He didn't want to hurt Bella, but it was the only way to save her child. Alice held her down as he dug the scalpel into her stomach and cut it open. He winced as Bella screamed in agony. He worked as quickly as he could. Within a minute, he brought the bloody baby out into the world. Edward took a syringe filled with his venom and plunged it into her heart. Just to be safe, he also bit both of her wrists. Alice's eyes glazed over as she checked into the future.
"She will wake up in three days," she notified with a sad smile.
Carlisle nodded as he cleaned the baby with a cloth. He couldn't help but be proud of Alice. She tried so hard to be happy and help out as much as possible with Bella, but he knew that she was still depressed. He didn't have to be Edward to know that she was thinking about Jasper every minute of every day. He looked to Edward, who now looked relieved that Bella would be okay.
"Edward, I believe you and Bella are the parents of a beautiful baby girl," he said.
Edward looked up from Bella to the baby in his father's arms. He smiled as he took his first good look at his daughter. He walked to Carlisle and took the baby in his arms.
"Renesmee!" he breathed with pure happiness.
Alice and Carlisle left the area to let Edward be alone with Bella and his daughter. Alice went to join Rosalie, Charlotte, and Esme. Nathan and Tarynne approached Carlisle.
"Is Bella okay?" Tarynne asked with genuine concern. When they first arrived, Tarynne was a little bit wary of the Cullens, but she had now grown close to every one of them.
"Bella is fine," Carlisle said with a smile, "She gave birth to a baby girl. She is transforming into one of us as we speak. She should wake up in three days."
Tarynne nodded. Now Nathan spoke up.
"There is someone that wants to meet you, Carlisle. She wanted to wait until you knew for sure that Bella would be okay. She didn't want you or anyone in your family to lose focus with what was happening to Bella."
Carlisle nodded and followed Nathan even deeper into the cave. All of a sudden, Nathan stopped.
"Just keep following this pathway, she wanted to speak to you alone."
Carlisle nodded and kept walking. There was a woman with long black hair sitting on a rock with his back to him at the end of the tunnel.
"Nathan said you wished to meet me?" Carlisle said with a twinge of uncertainty.
"Yes, I did," her beautiful voice rang through the quiet tunnel.
She turned around and Carlisle gasped. He had seen this vampire before, but only in a portrait centuries ago.
"Didyme!"
