A/N:
Hey guys! I am so sorry that I haven't updated in… *checks calendar, eyes widen in horror* ALMOST SIX MONTHS?
Holy crap, I cannot believe I took that long to update. I really don't have any good excuses and I deserve to be fed to the goats(please don't feed me to the goats).
Anyways, I honestly don't even know what I'm doing with this story as far as endings go. I have a few ideas for endings, but right now I'm just going with the flow. I might do a time jump at some point, but I do know that it will go at least as far as Elena's pregnancy, and then I will probably do an epilogue chapter. But I'm not going to worry about this now, considering we're just now getting to the good part of the story!
Alright, I'll shut up now. Enjoy!
"You're pregnant?"
Elena's eyes widened. "Damon, I…" She found herself at a loss for words.
"Are you pregnant?" He asked again.
Elena sighed. She knew she'd have to tell him eventually. "Yes, Damon. I'm pregnant."
"How the hell is that even possible?" Damon asked.
Elena crossed her arms. "Honestly, I… I have no idea."
"How long have you known?"
"Almost a week."
"You've known for a week and you didn't tell me?!" He asked.
Elena stepped forward. "I know I should've told you as soon as I found out, but I didn't want to tell you before I was ready to come back."
"Yeah? And when were you planning on coming back to the apartment, Elena?"
Rebekah cleared her throat, reminding the couple that they weren't alone. Elena looked over at the other girl's before turning back to Damon. "Can we go out back?"
Damon nodded and followed her out to the back porch. "Katherine told me about the baby earlier today." He said as they sat down on the steps. "I didn't believe her, though."
"Why were you with Katherine?" Elena asked almost jealously.
Damon almost laughed at the jealousy seeping into her words, but restrained himself. "She followed me to Caribou this morning when I was meeting with Stefan."
"What else did she say?" She asked.
"Just a bunch of lies." He replied, not wanting to tell her all of it.
"Damon." Elena said seriously. "Please tell me what she said."
Damon looked into her big brown eyes and melted. She really did have a way of getting under his skin(in a good way). "She… She said that the baby wasn't mine. And just for a second, I believed her. I believed that you would put me through the hell you went through in return for all the pain I caused."
"I would never do that to you." She assured him. "Never. And to be honest, I'm pretty sure that I should be apologizing to you right now."
"Why?"
"For… Everything. Leaving, then starting arguments left and right, then leaving again, and I just… I want you to know that I love you, and I forgive you." She told him honestly. "And I promise that I won't leave again, okay? I'm sure this time."
Damon moved forward and smashed his lips into hers. His hands cupped the sides of her face while hers gripped his shirt gently.
After a couple minutes Damon pulled away hesitantly and rested his forehead against hers. "As much I'd love to just keep doing that, I think we need to discuss a few things."
Elena pulled back and nodded. "Right."
"So… Have you gone to any doctor appointments yet?" He asked.
Elena shook her head. "I'm going the day after tomorrow." Her eyes met his again and she tentatively asked, "Would you like to come with?"
Damon nodded, smiling gently. "Yeah. Yeah, of course."
Elena's smile suddenly grew. "I can't believe we're having a baby."
Damon smiled and pulled her into his arms. "Me neither."
"We're gonna be great parents." She said.
"That kid is gonna be spoiled rotten, though, with Rebekah and Stefan and Caroline and Matt and Bonnie and Jenna and Ric and Jeremy and Anna and us." He added.
"And it's gonna have friends, with Alexis and Paige and Jenna and Ric's and Jeremy and Bonnie's babies." She said.
"And we'll all have Christmases over here, Caroline with her flavor of the month and the never-ending tension between her and Matt." Damon joked.
Elena laughed, pulling back. "We should go grab my stuff from upstairs."
Damon smiled and nodded, standing up, Elena following him into the house.
When they walked through the front door, they saw Jenna, Bonnie and Rebekah standing there expectantly.
Elena stared at them suspiciously for a moment before Rebekah gestured her hand towards them. "Well, tell us what happened!" She demanded in her accented voice.
Elena rolled her eyes before smiling. "I'm going back to the apartment."
The three girls smiled. "Now you better stay together, or I swear to god I will glue you two together." Jenna said, one hand on her hip while the other was pointing at them.
They just laughed and walked upstairs.
Elena woke up the next morning, in her and Damon's bed. They'd gotten back to the apartment, eaten dinner, watched TV and went to bed. They were back into their routine, and Elena loved it.
She realized that Damon wasn't lying in bed with her and got up, walking into the living room. She could hear someone in the kitchen and smiled slightly.
She was, however, surprised to find Jeremy standing in kitchen, eating a bowl of cereal.
"Hey, 'Lena." Jeremy said casually, looking up at his sister.
Elena crossed her arms, confused. "Uh, not to be rude, but what are you doing here at-" she glanced at the clock, "10 A.M.?"
Jeremy shrugged. "Anna wanted to go back to our apartment and I wanted to give her space, so I came here."
"How'd you get in?"
"Damon let me in. He's at work, by the way." He replied.
She nodded. "And I assume he told you…?"
"About you coming back? Yeah."
She nodded and again and sat down at the island. "Hey, how's it going with the Bonnie and Anna situation?"
Jeremy shrugged. "I don't know. I'm trying to be there for Bonnie and I'm trying to fix everything with Anna, but I still really care about Bonnie and," he groaned, "It's just a really difficult situation."
"Hate to say it, Jer, but you sort of got yourself into his." She said.
"I know."
"And I kinda feel like if you really loved Anna, you wouldn't have cheated." She finished.
"Damon really loves you and he still cheated." He pointed out.
Elena sighed. "That's different."
"No it's not." He said. "Well, I mean, Damon was drunk, but still."
"And I just think that the term 'Once a cheater, always a cheater' only applies to some people." She said. "And I don't think that Damon's a cheater."
"And you think I am."
She put her hand over his. "I think that you've made a few mistakes in your life. And I think that you can fix those mistakes as long as you're there for your kids and work it out with Anna." She thought for a moment. "Or Bonnie."
"Woah, woah, what?" He asked. "Bonnie?"
"I'm just saying, somewhere deep inside of you, you might still like her." Elena told him.
"Yeah, whatever." He looked up at her again. "Oh yeah, Damon said that you were gonna tell me something."
"Wha-" She suddenly remembered the baby currently growing in her uterus. "Oh yeah." She looked down at her hands. "Um, I'm pregnant."
Jeremy smiled. "What? I thought you couldn't get pregnant?"
Elena smiled back. "Technically I shouldn't be able to, but they did say ninety-nine point nine percent chance, not a hundred." She played with the ends of her dark brown hair. "Though I'm probably still at a high risk for miscarriages, this could be our only shot, so I'm choosing to stay positive. And I'm going to the doctor tomorrow, so that should answer some of our questions."
Jeremy walked over to the other side of the island and wrapped his arms around his sister's waist. "I'm really happy for you, Elena."
Elena hugged him back and replied, "Thanks, Jer."
Damon walked into the living room of Stefan and Rebekah's house(it had come to the point where people stayed with them and came to visit so much that they just gave them all spare keys and stopped caring), to see Rebekah, Stefan, Alexis, Rebekah's older brother Elijah, and some brunette girl he had never seen before.
"Sorry, am I interrupting something?" Damon asked, leaning on the side of the doorway.
Rebekah looked up at him and shook her head. "Not at all." She stood up. "Damon, this is Hayley," she motioned towards the brunette, "Elijah's girlfriend, and Hayley, this is Damon, Stefan's older brother."
"It's nice to meet you." Hayley told him.
Damon nodded. "You, too." He looked over at Elijah. "And nice to see you again, 'Lijah." Elijah simply nodded in reply.
"Not to be rude, but what are you doing here?" Stefan asked.
Damon shrugged. "I actually wanted to talk to you about some things, but I can just come back later." He said to Stefan.
"It's fine. Let's go out back." Stefan said before leading Damon out to the back porch. "So what was it you wanted to talk to me about?"
Damon sighed and sat down. "I am scared out of my mind about being a dad."
Stefan nodded sympathetically. "I was, too. Hell, I think everybody is when they first find out. But as soon as that baby is born, you'll forget that you were ever scared and all you'll care about is being a good dad."
"I just… I don't want to end up being the father that our father was." Damon sighed.
Stefan sat down next to him. "You are not our father, Damon. You are more of a man than he's ever been. And you're going to be a great dad." He sighed. "And I think it's a miracle that we turned out the way we did with someone like him raising us."
Damon thought for a moment. "Do… Do you ever miss mom? I mean, I know you were only a few years old when she died, but…"
"All the time." Stefan replied. "She was a great woman."
"Yeah she was." He agreed. "I can't believe that I'm getting married and having kid." He looked out at the light blue sky. "I mean, I'm happy, I just can't believe it. After all the pain I've caused, I almost feel like I don't deserve it."
"You weren't the one that sent your life to hell, Damon. Katherine did. She got you drunk and took advantage. You had no control over it."
Damon leaned on the side of the stairs. "I guess."
The truth was, no matter how many times people told him it wasn't, Damon would always feel guilty.
Later that night, Elena awoke from her sleep, sweat beading down her forehead and hand clutching her stomach instinctively.
She'd had the dream again.
A/N:
So what do you guys think? I'm sorry if there were any grammar/spelling errors.
I stayed up all night writing it, so I hope you guys like it! And originally I thought I'd keep them apart for a little longer, but after the finale I just couldn't write that. I needed them to be together!
Alright, so I have a couple things to talk about.
Firstly, holy crap the finale. I'm really, really sad about Lexi, Damon and Bonnie, but I have a feeling that Damon will come back, considering he's part of the main three. Also, ALARIC. I have been moping about his death for a really long time. Another thing, I feel really bad for Jeremy, Elena and Stefan. They all lost people close to them and I actually started crying, which is odd considering I'm not that emotional of a person.
Secondly, I'm thinking about re-writing ICBTY. I would really just fix and add a few things, but I've been wanting to for a while so I might do it while we're on hiatus.
Please review and tell me what you think! I'll try to update soon-ish!
