Chapter 8: Awake

A/N: HELLO! Yes, I am up and running, FINALLY! Feels so good to have a computer again :) Well, I hope you enjoy this and its nice to be back! :)

Peeking into the meeting room, Elena seen that they were all in the middle of a session and sighed, thinking back to her first session. She was going mad. They were saying she needed to be there, that her parents were dead, that she was going crazy and belonged there. Then she was sedated. Shaking her head, she took a breath and moved back slowly, turning on heel as she made her way down the hall, not wanting to attract any attention to herself.

Looking around, she watched the other patients and bit her lip, smiling. Sometimes it seemed like she was the only sane one in this place, not that everyone would fully agree with that statement. Moving around the corner, she looked up the hall and froze in her spot as she stared at the door, her heart escalating in that moment. He was probably sitting in there, wearing his crisp white jacket while scanning through documents. Shaking her head, she continued down the hall and stopped, gasping out in pain as she fell against the wall, light flashing in her eyes like a spot light.

Elena, can you hear me?

No, not again! Just when she thought that the voices were going. Moving away from the wall, she quickly made her way up the hall and to his office as she knew he would be able to help her. Knocking on the door, she paced, the light flashing in her eyes again as she covered her hands over her face, moaning in pain. Knocking again, she took a deep breath as she blinked rapidly, spots appearing in her vision. The door opened, Damon's eyebrows furrowed as he looked at her in confusion. Pushing by him, she moaned in pain as another sharp pain went through her skull like a blade. Closing the door, he turned to look at her and bit his lip.

"Hey, what's the matter with you, huh?" Damon questioned with worry as he walked towards her.
"The pain." She groaned, digging her fingers into her head.
"What's it like?" He placed his hand on her arm gently as she grabbed onto his arm.
"Blades...blades everywhere." A flash hit her eyes again, a gasp leaving her.

Opening her eyes, she swallowed as she looked around the dark road wide-eyed. She wasn't in Damon's office anymore. Turning around, she froze as she seen the 'Welcome to Mystic Falls' sign. No, not again! How many times was she going to see this accident? It didn't make any sense to her, especially the fact that she was in the car that crashed.

Hearing screeching wheels, she turned on her heel quickly and seen the sets of headlights heading her way. Watching in horror, she felt her breathing stop as she watched the car flip into a crushing roll. The grinding of metal screeched through the air as the car came to a deafening stop. Hearing sobbing, she took a shaky breath as she looked to see the other car pull up.

Hearing screams coming from the car, she covered her ears, her heart racing as the door opened of the second car. Seeing the person get out, she slowly uncovered her ears, never being able to see the person before. Watching as the person stepped out of darkness and into the beams of the headlights, she gasped in shock, her heart stopping. Stefan!? Stefan was chasing her!? Shaking her head, she swallowed. No no no. This couldn't be right, Stefan wouldn't go as far to hurt her, would he?

Elena, come on, wake up!

Elena watched as the car burst into flames, the screaming louder in the car as she stepped back in horror, her stomach tied up in knots. Out of nowhere, at the speed of lightning, a body came crashing into Stefan's, knocking him back against the bonet of the car. She watched as Damon stood, anger in his eyes, his whole body clenched. Leather jacket...the same Damon she seen when she was hallucinating. She jumped as Stefan went to move, but Damon hit him with a jaw breaking punch. Looking back over to the car, she heard the sobbing and didn't know what to do. She was frozen. What the hell was happening?

"What's the matter Damon? Don't want MY girlfriend burning?" Stefan raised an eyebrow.
"Clearly you know about us two sleeping together," Damon licked his lips, "It happened and no, I don't regret it."
"Ah, you will when she's dead."

Stefan went to punch him, but Damon kicked him back and moved over to the car at an unnatural speed and pulled the door, ripping it off its hinges as he got to the ground, looking into the car. Reaching inside, he tugged on the belt, breaking it within seconds as an unconscious Elena fell into his arms. Getting to his feet, he held her close, his hand cradling the back of her head as he looked around into the distance, disappearing into thin air within seconds.

The brunette stood, staring at the scene in front of her as she couldn't believe her eyes. Letting out a breath she had been holding, she fell back, the world becoming darkness and all that she knew disappearing into thin air as reality came to life.

The brunette moaned in pain, a torch light in her eyes as she slowly opened her eyes, seeing Damon in his crisp white coat and to see that she was indeed back in his office. Sighing in relief, she swallowed as he stroked her hair back from her face and gave her a sad smile, one that somehow she recognized but didn't know how.

"Your awake." He whispered, taking her hands as he helped her sit up.
"Mmhm, I'd like to stay that way. That was a nightmare." She replied, taking a deep breath.

Elena, Elena can you hear me?

She winced, rubbing her ears as the voice was louder than usual. What was going on? Moaning in pain, she dug her fingers into her temples, rubbing her fingertips round in circles, trying to rid of the migraine that was starting to grow worse by the second. Her whole body was erupting in pain, but she couldn't explain it, understand it even. Tears glazed her eyes as the voices got even louder and the pain was growing worse by the second. Damon wrapped his arms around her gently, holding her close and kissed the top of her head inhaling.

"Damon, what's going on?" She cried in pain, looking up at him.
"It's time."
"Wh...what? Time?"

Looking around her, the room was getting brighter, Damon becoming a shimmering angel as she swallowed, blinking, trying to dim the brightness, but the room only grew bright by the second. Damon leaned in, kissing her softly as he cupped her face in his hands, leaning his forehead against hers.

"Remember what I said? I'm the best choice for you. I'll always take care of you Elena, I love you."
"Dam-"
"Goodbye Elena." He whispered as everything faded to black.

The brunette felt like she was falling, the rush of air in her ears as she reaching, trying to grab hold of something. She couldn't stop falling, she felt like she was being pulled and wasn't able to fight against it. She suddenly stopped, her body lying solid as she swallowed, trying to move. She felt so stiff. Wiggling her fingers, she felt the huge weight on her head, the heaviness as she tried to open her eyes. All of a sudden, a weight was lifted, her whole body light as everything hit her within an instant. She flew up into a sitting position, her eyes open wide as she gasped, holding her throat. Three pairs of eyes stared back at her.

"Elena."

Elena eyes moved to the raspy voice, brown meeting blue as reality hit her. Damon, it was Damon. Her heart settled as everything became clear to her now.

She was awake.
