Tony and the rest of the Avengers came home to a huge Christmas tree in the common room, decorated with lights and delicate ornaments, Steve popping popcorn in a pan, and Chloe and Pepper stringing popcorn and cranberries to put on the tree. They all stood in the doorway, open mouthed. Pepper got up and kissed Tony on the cheek. "What is all this?" he asked. Chloe stood up.
"Well, you guys weren't doing anything so we figured to take over." Natasha suddenly rushed over and hugged her.
"Thank you! This is one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for me!" At first Chloe was frozen at the assassins reaction, but then she returned the hug. Finally Natasha realized that everyone was staring and stepped away. Then she caught sight of something under the tree.
"Presents?!" Steve answered her.
"Chloe and I each got you guys one and Pepper got Tony three."
"Anything for you guys?" Clint asked. They shook their heads smiling.
"We're good. I like doing this sort of thing and so does Steve." Chloe said. The rest of the Avengers looked guilty. Chloe waved her hands at them.
"Don't worry about it, Christmas is next week and we have plenty of things to do in the meantime." Everyone else sat down and chatted. The rest of the week was filled with parties Tony got them invited to, meeting Pepper's parents, and lots of shopping. Tony, annoyingly, placed mistletoe in all of the doorways and air vent openings. Clint helped solve these problems by shooting exploding arrows at every piece of mistletoe that he saw. Chloe also flew around on the ceilings and cut down mistletoe.
Other than that, everything was fine until Pepper told her about a Christmas party that a guy had to take you to. Tony was taking Pepper, Clint was taking Natasha (They claimed that they were only going because Fury had ordered them to), Bruce was taking a girl named Betty, and Thor was taking Jane. Chloe had assumed that Steve had found someone and was shocked when he asked her to come with him. Chloe had accepted and had chosen a red dress that had slits in the back for her wings to easily come out without breaking the dress. She had decided to let her wings be out for the party. A mink stole was draped across her bare shoulders.
After getting to the building, Chloe now found herself in the middle of a red carpet with paparazzi everywhere, holding hands with Steve. She noticed Peter Parker ahead of her and when she got inside found herself face to face with Wolverine. Behind him she noticed Dr. Reed Richards and Susan Storm. The Thing was only wearing tuxedo pants and drawing a couple stares. Bruce and Betty were eagerly talking to Richards and Pepper and Sue were chatting away. Chloe dodged people and made her way to the dance floor. Once there she barely missed hitting Stan Lee. Steve appeared in the midst of a group of photographers and she ran over to him. "Help!" she hissed and dragged him away towards the dance floor.
"I don't know how to dance!" Steve muttered.
"Sorry, but I needed to get away from that crowd." As she nodded towards the mass of people she noticed a guy that looked like he was being attacked by girls. She whispered what was happening to Steve and he agreed that she should go save the poor guy. Chloe walked forward and found herself facing the Fantastic Four's Tony, Mr. Johnny Storm. Someone called her name and she looked around but didn't see the speaker. She turned her attention back to Johnny and noticed a good resemblance to Steve. Odd, she thought.
"You fly?" Johnny asked. Chloe rolled her eyes.
"No, these are just perfectly real giant wings that I got melded onto my back for the party cause I'm only a fake Avenger and I need a power, of course I fly!" Johnny shrugged.
"Whatever. Bet you can't fly faster than me!"
"How much?"
"What?"
"How much money do you bet on this race?"
"Oh, uh, fifty bucks."
"That's sad, make it a hundred."
"Fine, a hundred."
"Deal." Chloe pulled a pair of pants and a shirt out of her purse. They both changed and went up to the roof. By this time word had gotten around of the race and nearly everyone had gathered on the roof. By the time Chloe had gotten on top, Johnny was commanding all of the attention. Steve ran up to her.
"I hope you know what you're doing."
"I'll be fine, trust m…" She trailed of as Steve kissed her. He backed off blushing. Chloe merely stared at him.
"Good luck," he said. She nodded vacantly.
"Come on girl, the Torch isn't waiting any longer!" Johnny called. Chloe spread her wings and flew slowly over to him, still amazed at Steve's action. "Ok, we'll go to Avengers Tower, fly around it and head to the Empire State Building. First one to land on the top wins." Chloe noticed a guy with black hair and sea green eyes mutter something ridiculous to his blond date that sounded like, "Zeus is going to get them if they're not careful."
"Ready set go!" Johnny yelled, leaping off of the building.
"Hey!" Chloe sprang after him, hastily flapping to gain altitude. She took a deep breath and allowed her instincts to take over. Her wing beat sped up and she began to close the gap. The bright form before her had just swept around the Tower and was heading toward the Empire State. What Chloe knew and Johnny didn't, though, was that an extremely powerful wind always spun around the top of the building and Johnny was flying straight into it.
"Whoa!" he yelled as he was whipped around. Chloe flew close against the building and flew as fast as she could toward the top. She got caught in the wind for a minute but managed to break out and land on the top of the building. She sat there for a moment, catching her breath and flew out to rescue Johnny. Thankfully, she was immune to fire as she could conjure fireballs so Chloe was able to grab the guy's hand. As soon as they got out of the wind, they both headed towards the building that they had started from. Once they had landed, a big cheer went up from the assembled crowd. Sue Storm ran up to her brother and slapped him. Hard.
"You are such an idiot! What if the girl didn't care if you got out of that wind! What if you lost concentration! What would you do then!" and etc. etc. Natasha ran up to her and cried out,
"That was some of the best flying I've seen!" Chloe knew that the assassin had been drinking or else she wouldn't be acting this way and giving out random compliments. She spotted Steve and gave him a look that said, 'Let's get home.' It was pretty easy for the rest of the Avengers to sneak out. Chloe stayed up top and commanded attention. As soon as she spotted the limo that they had arrived in drive away, Chloe waved goodbye and dove off of the roof. By the time she reached the Tower, everyone else had gone to bed. She walked into her room and collapsed on her bed.
On Christmas morning, everyone was up early and over their drunkenness except for some hangovers. Pepper had given Tony one of the annoying turny things that were on her desk and two packages of strawberries. Natasha had given Clint a new bow and Clint had given her three new pistols. Tony had given everyone Iron Man pillows and Chloe had given all of them woven bags of apples and their favorite kinds of candy. Steve had given them all new phones and Bruce had given Steve a list of modern technology with the note, 'Stay with the times'. When all of the presents were open, Steve produced a male German Sheppard puppy and Chloe produced a female cat. This may sound like a bad idea, but the two animals got along well. The cat was promptly named Gelato by Clint, and its new owner, Natasha, kept the name. The puppy was presented to Chloe and named Bucky by Steve.
"You know what?" Tony said. "I think that I should make Christmas Iron Man suits for all of us and we fly around in them." The response was instantaneous.
"NO!"
