Chapter 7

Causatum

Several hours later, in Osiris.

It has been a long time since Robbie went under for surgery. Osiris has a 'hospital', but in comparison to an actual hospital, it's fucking nothing; it is just a random part of the cavern. They have the tools necessary for the surgery, but it's hard to operate on someone in an environment that consists mainly of dirt and rock. But, at least they can put up a large tent and seal it off from the rest of the world. Kinda.

Robbie's friends and family are waiting impatiently in the 'waiting room', which is again, just a random part of the cavern. Cat is pacing non-stop, to Jade's annoyance.

"Cat! Stop doing that." Jade snaps at the redhead, who squeaks and sits down on the ground from where she's standing. "I didn't say...oh, whatever."

"Jade, calm down please." Tori says to Jade calmly. Jade snorts and rolls her eyes, but listens, taking a deep breath. Cat sits there, looking worried. Robbie's family is looking worried themselves.

"I hope Robbie it's going to be ok." Andre says.

"He will be, he's a fighter." Beck replies.

"Even so. If he lives, he'll be different. No one takes a blow like that to the head and comes out without scars." Tori says sadly. Robbie's mom whimpers loudly.

"Ve-Tori. You can't think like that." Jade chastises Tori gently. "Yes, he'll be different, but as his friends, we can't abandon him, nor his family. They need us."

"She's right." Cat says quietly "You're right, I-I shouldn't have said that..." Tori says quietly, burying her face in her hands.

"Mr. and Mrs. Shapiro?" A man's voice rang out. Everyone looked up to see a surgeon standing at the cavern entrance. Everyone stood up at once and walked forward.

"How's my boy?" Robbie's mom asks gingerly. The surgeon sighs.

"We had to induce him into a coma; he suffered a severe concussion and damage to his brain, particularly to his occipital lobe, which is eyesight."

"Will he see when he wakes?" Robbie's dad asks.

"We cannot be sure until he does wake, but we don't know when that'll be." The surgeon replies.

"May we see him?" His mom asks.

"Of course this way, please." The surgeon replies before showing Robbie's family to his 'room'. Robbie's friends stay behind, waiting for their turn.

"I wanna see him." Cat whimpers.

"I know, kitty, but we got to wait for his family to see him first." Andre replies.

"But, it'll be our turn soon, don't worry." Beck reassures her. Cat nods her head slowly.

A few minutes pass and Robbie's family returns to the 'waiting room', telling they can go visit him. The gang goes into another room where Robbie is recovering from his surgery. The top of his head is wrapped in bandages, making it look like he was wearing a beanie.

"He looks peaceful at least." Andre states.

"It won't last long; he'll wake in agony." Jade says. "We won't be able to help him through that pain."

"Maybe not, but we can still be with him through it." Beck says.

"How exactly?" Tori asks. "What can we do for him besides be there for him?" "He'll be different in so many ways, that we may never get the old Robbie back."

"Vega, you really need to stop talking like that; he won't be fine, but we'll be with him every step of the way because he's a friend." Jade chastises Tori.

"You're right, Jade, I'm sorry. I'm just worried for him." Tori replies, sighing heavily.

The EKG monitor starts beeping erratically. The gang looked at the monitor and saw, to their alarm, that Robbie's heartrate was in freefall.

"Doctor! Nurse! Somebody! Quick!" Andre shouts as he and Beck ran out of the cavern to find help. Cat started crying and was being held close by Tori and Jade, who didn't know what else to do.

Beck and Andre return moments later with nurses who start to resuscitate Robbie, who starts flat lining. They use a defibrillator on him, raising his heartrate temporarily, before it drops down again. They keep at it, adding a shot of epinephrine. Everyone else just stays where they are, dread on their faces as one of their friends is losing the fight to stay alive.

"Keep going higher!" the doctor ordered. "360!"

"Clear!" the nurse said, activating the defibrillator again, showing no affect.

Beeeeeeeeeeeep.

"Robbie! Robbie! ROBBIE!" Cat screams.

Beeeeeeeeeeeep.
