Sesshomaru's hand moved with the patters of the words he was creating on a scroll. He was but done with his endless work and exhausting ruling. The past three weeks he had dedicated to his lands completely. It was a good distraction and if anything he was willing to opt with it with outstretched arms. He did not fault himself entirely; he was merely trying to bury the past- the memories. He couldn't dwell on things he couldn't change, rather look for solutions to a productive future not only for himself but his lands.
Yet as much as he wanted to, and every moment proved to be more irritatingly impossible as it was, he couldn't bring his brain to completely erase what his ward had told him- not that that said title belonged to her any longer. She wanted him out of her life completely. This, as clear as it was, proved to him- with a sort of finality- something he was so in denial of as of recent. The realization couldn't dawn sooner. He was no longer welcomed. He didn't know why decades upon decades, even before she was born, of being unwanted and knowing that this was his true destiny, something he sought out himself even and thought he enjoyed proved other side what he wanted most. They were just merely white lies he told himself.
He would accept that.
He continued his worked until he was interrupted by a light knock in his study, and before he could decide what to do next the door opened. A white figure appeared. Graceful as ever. He hadn't seen his mother in a while. He wonders briefly why she had come here. He thinks back on whatever reasons she could dig to scold him over as she does when she finds herself bored. It couldn't be anything recent, though. He hasn't told her about Rin and her current expectant state and when she fled his palace his mother had stopped her lectures about how he's become his father.
For a moment curiosity dwelled on him. It had been three boring weeks and he could use another more dramatic distraction than ink and paper that currently proved but a tedious diversion. Though it quickly died once he realized that the probability of them having a normal conversation was most likely impossible.
Sesshomaru frowned remembering that she just barged in. "What is it, mother? Can your eyes tell that I'm working?"
His mother looked unchanged as she elegantly took a seat in front of him. She crossed her arms as she inspected his study as if she never been there before. Suddenly, and without warning, all of her attention was on him. He was the least affected by it. "My son, I'm very proud at the work you've done. I hear your court is very satisfied at all the new improvements you've developed recently."
Sesshomaru was taken by her complement. She wasn't a woman to point out the good in others, rather that she enjoyed digging her nails on everyone's flaws.
"Don't look so stunned, Sesshomaru," she almost pouted. "Can't a mother prize her son?"
All too quickly he was suspicious. "Is that all you came here to say?"
She looked irritated.
Sesshomaru controlled the urge he had to roll his eyes. He couldn't waste his time trying to figure out her riddles. "I have really important work to do, mother. I can't simply be interrupted."
It was his mother who rolled her eyes as she stood. "Though I have to point out that near my lands there was some distraught.
"What does it has to do with me, mother?" Sesshomaru was tired again, rubbing his eyes slightly. "You said it yourself those are your lands."
His mother picked at her fingers. "Oh, nothing, my dear, it just that humans are so barbaric don't you think? They started to burn a whole village to the ground near my lands. I was enjoying it, do not misinterpret. Though after a few days I went to inspect the areas to take note on the damages."
If Sesshomaru could will himself to he would have snickered. "Are you requesting my help on your ruling, mother?"
She kept picking at her fingers when she said "Not exactly."
Sesshomaru sighed. "I haven't all day mother."
"Well, I stumble upon the men who had done such a barbaric thing and there I found the most curious of scenarios. Inside this hut was a woman. They were about to beat her. I only stopped them because she was pregnant."
Sesshomaru shook his head. Did his ears deceive him? "I can't believe what you're telling me mother. I'm shocked you saved a human after you continually chastised me over it."
Sesshomary watched closely as his mother rolled her eyes again. "Oh, son-"
Jaken opened the door so suddenly Sesshomaru was almost surprised out of his seat. He was about to tell him to knock or to not bother him but something in his face was strange. He looked worried and exasperated. Although this is a common façade for Jaken something was not quite right, the expressions were too exaggerated. Before he could ask- not that he intended to- the imp said "My Lord is about Rin-"
Sesshomaru was tempted on wiping the smug of his mother's face but that would further worsen the situation. His anger was bottled after seeing Rin's condition and her unconscious state and his mother shadow following him everywhere was not helping his cause. If she were not his mother he would have done something about it hours ago but in the meantime Rin was the one who claimed most of his attention in the moment.
He'd ask those attending her- aside from the obvious- if they could inform him of the girl's health status. They showed him a cut done near her back, so deep Sesshomaru had to look way. Then the bruises and other wounds she had, including her broken leg.
He was wary to touch her, feeling if he did she will break to pieces, so he asked a few servants to bring her to her chambers instead of doing it himself. The medical side of his palace was too rough and wrong for her body that might as well forgotten what a bed must be like after a few days.
Sesshomaru found his mother in the hallway, her figure leaning on the wall, arms cross. Sesshomaru exhaled. "I need you to leave at once, mother."
His mother seemed unfazed. As always. "It strange but if I didn't know any better I figure you were the cause of your pets very round stomach."
Sesshomaru's faced remained unchanged. "Not now, mother."
His mother seemed shocked as if she expected for him to tell her otherwise. "The fact that you're not denying it tells me I'm right." There was silence as this information sink in. Then all of a sudden she was angry. "How could you!" She controlled herself very fast, like a bomb exploding within itself. Her familiar coldness returned. "Son, do you know what a mule is?"
He understood where her line of thought was coming from. He reminded quite.
She shook her head, her eyes barely blinking. "I don't even recognize you anymore. I guess I should have seen it coming too. I just hope you would-" she stopped abruptly as if thinking things over again as if that way things would make sense again. Her eyes grew and she shivered, disgusted. Then there was anger again. "I can't believe you-you fucked a human-"
"Enough!" Sesshomaru growled, he close the distance between them. He was clinging on the edge; he couldn't handle one more of those mental battle with his mother anymore . "I don't want to see your face around here anymore! I want you to leave and I don't want you to return. Is that clear, mother?"
That was the first time he saw real disappointment in his mother eyes. Then the slightest glass shining in the corner of her eyes. She gulped, and then straightened herself. "I just can't believe it, betrayed by the only important men in my life with insignificant humans."
He didn't know what to say to this. Up until know he hadn't thought of it. He thought of calling her out but he knew he would regret it later. So he just watched her walked away.
From a distance Sesshomaru could hear his mother's words. "Fool me once…"
For a moment Rin thought she was dead. She felt so at ease and in tremendous peace and underneath her she felt like she was floating in a cloud. Then the pain surge her like a thousand knifes everywhere, and she felt like she fell to the ground. She soon realized she was in a familiar place, the bed, the window, the room. She was back at his palace. But how? She faintly remembered one of her last memories before she grew unconscious. A white figure. Was it him?
Then she looked at herself. She was all bandaged up, her broken leg, her back, everywhere. She quickly touched her stomach. She felt movement. She sighed. At least the baby was safe.
Rin looked around again. She was alone and it was almost the afternoon.
Rin tried to move and see if she could go to the bathroom. That quickly turned in to a bad idea. She felt every pain possible in that small move and she let a small scream out.
Rin laid back, sure she'll never tried that again. She'll rather pee herself.
When Rin decided it was best for her to just rest and maybe forget the traumatizing things she had experience, including Kagome's demise the door opened.
There he was.
