Chapter 7

A Price to be Paid

Felix was on his way back to the camp when he caught sight of a certain Indian Princess making her way through Pan's Territory. It was none other than Tigerlily. With nothing else truly pressing for him to do, he decided to stop what he was doing and go investigate their intruder.

At first he thought she didn't notice him. So he went around behind and to tried and scare her, but then she sudden spun back, jumped into his arms and gave him a surprise kiss on the mouth. The fool stood there in shock for a whole five seconds before regaining his wits and immediately returning the kiss. When the two finally pulled away, she smiled up at him, "Hello Felix."

"Tigerlily." He smirked, "Always a pleasure to see you."

"It better be." She chuckled.

"What are you doing out here?" he smiled, "I thought we weren't going to see each other for a few more days?

"I'm here to visit Danielle." She confessed, "It's been a couple weeks and I'd thought I'd come by and see how she's been doing."

"The lost girl?" Felix arched a brow, "Why am I not surprised?"

The princess laughed, "Well she is the first girl my age to ever come to the island." She reminded him with a playful little smirked, "Well since Wendy that is."

"Right," Felix nodded, "Let's just hope the sea hag doesn't have a problem with her too or else we're in deep trouble. I don't know why but Pan seems pretty intent on keeping this one."

"So I noticed." Tigerlily laughed nervously, "He was rather upset when he came by to get her."

Felix paused and eyed her curiously, "He didn't threaten you did he?"

The Princess looked up at him surprised, but quickly shook her head. "What? No." The princess's reply was a little too quick for Felix's liking, but he said nothing. "No he didn't."

"I see." Felix replied slowly, he wasn't convinced. Then looked down at her with a small smile and took her hand, "Good... Good."

Meanwhile Peter was seated on a tree stump in the center of the camp, playing his pipes. The camp was lively today. Everyone was up and playing, even his lost girl, Danielle. She was playing sword fight with sticks with her friends Slightly and the twins. A part of him envied the three of them for spending so much time with her of late, but he knew they were necessary to help him convince her to stay. Pan was nearly half way through their deal and he could tell that the lost girl was starting to consider staying with them, but it wasn't enough. He either needed to find something to make her want to stay once and for all or find a way out of their deal at together. Peter always kept his promises, but if he didn't come up with something soon, his promises would cost him the game.

And Peter Pan never loses his games.

Peter looked and watched Danielle as she fought and noticed she was doing rather well. "Have at thee!" Ace charged at her with his stick, but she blocked it easily and pushed him back.

"Ha! Nice try!" she giggled. Then her other friends joined in fight and started chasing her.

The corner of Peter's lips turned upward at the sound of her laughter, but stopped as soon as he caught himself doing so and frowned. He knew he was growing attached to Danielle. He didn't like it, but it was true. He wasn't going waste anymore of his time trying to delude himself into thinking otherwise. It became very clear when his boys lost her a while back. He tried to ignore it and continue teaching her the ways of the island as he was told to, but in doing so he was growing fonder of her and couldn't understand why. He shouldn't be feeling anything about her.

"Peter." A voice called behind him and interrupted his thoughts. The leader of the lost boys looked back to see his second in command walking over with the chef's daughter, Tigerlily. Figures.

"Felix." Pan put down his pipes and walked over to greet the two of them, "About time you showed up." He looked over to the Indian princess, "But I think I can guess what kept you."

The couple paused for a moment before Tigerlily spoke up and announced, "I'm here to see Danielle."

"Are you now?" Peter quirked a brow and tilted his head over in the lost girl's direction, "Well she's over there."

"Thanks." She nodded and turned to Felix, "I'll see you later." Then made her way over to Danielle.

Once she was out of ear shot, Peter turned back to the lost boy with a frown and shook his head, "You're not seeing her later."

"Peter-," The tall blond started to explain, but Pan cut him off.

"Felix. I honestly don't care what you do so long as you do it on your own time. Not mine."

"Pan we weren't-"

"I don't want to hear it." He raised his hand and silenced him, "Just tell me what's going on in the Mermaid lagoon. What did those blasted half fish freaks want now?"

"They wouldn't say." The lost boy shook his head, "They want to talk to you."

Peter rolled his eyes, "Yes of course. Those damn water breathers. They always want to speak to me." He waved his hand and pulled a small mirror out of the air, "I'll go, but I want you to stay and watch the camp while I'm gone. If something happens while I'm away, contact me through this mirror. Understand?"

"Yes." He nodded.

"Good." He shifted his gaze to the girls. Danielle had just notice the Indian Princess and was running into her arms, giving the girl the warm welcome imaginable. Pan knew why the Merpeople were there on the island and he'd be damn before he let them take anything that belonged to him. Especially her.

He just stood there staring at them for several second until Felix snapped back again. "Are you okay, Peter?" He asked him.

"Fine." The immortal boy replied, giving his long time best friend one more look over before walking away, "Just fine." He muttered, then he disappeared into the woods.

Danielle was playing with her friends when she suddenly heard someone calling her name. The lost girl looked up and smiled, "Tigerlily!" She stopped the game and ran into her friends arms, "I'm so happy to see you! How've you been?"

"Very good, thank you," She nodded then turned to the boys behind her, "I would ask you the same, but it's rather obvious that you're doing pretty well for yourself here."

"Yeah, I am." She nodded and stretched her arm out to the boys, "These are my friends! Slight-"

"Slightly, Ace, and Jack." The tall black-haired Princess nodded, "Yes, I know them."

"Right." Danielle smacked her forehead, "Everyone knows everyone on this island."

"Well it's kind of hard not to after a century together." Slightly rolled his eyes.

Danielle ignored his comment and turned back to her friend, "So what brings you here? Are you here to see Felix?"

"What? No! I came to see you." She shook her head, "How'd you know about Felix and I?"

"Everyone knows about you and Felix, Lassie." One of the twins grinned at her.

"Nothing stays secret around here for long." The other twin finished.

"Oh." Tigerlily pulled her lips into a thin line and scratched a nonexistent itch on the back of her head. Danielle could have sworn the girl was blushing, "Well, I guess I should have expected that."

"Yes, you should have!" the twins went on. They looked like they were about to start teasing her like how everyone else did with Danielle and her relationship with Peter, but the lost girl quickly shot the both of them a dark look and they shut up right away.

"I wouldn't worry about it Tigerlily. So long as you guys are happy together, it doesn't matter what these boys think." Danielle patted the tall girl on the back.

"Yeah. I suppose you're right. They are just a bunch of dumb boys after all." She laughed.

"Right." Danielle nodded.

"Hey!" Slightly shouted, sounding offended.

"We resent that!" Ace pouted next to him, "I'll have you know we are smarter than we look."

"That's right!" His brother nodded.

The lost girl laughed, "Right. That's why you needed me to help you find some ointment after you guys used a bunch of poison ivy to wipe you asses."

Tigerlily covered her mouth to try and stop herself of giggling, but she was failing miserably.

"Oi, Lassie!" Jack shouted hushly at her, scanning his eyes around to see if any of the other boys heard them, "You said you wouldn't tell anyone about that!"

"And I didn't." She smiled smugly, "Until now at least." She shot the black haired princess a grin.

"Why you!" Slightly laughed, charging at her with his stick. Both Danielle and Tigerlily squealed and sprinted off out of the camp. All three boys ran after them in pursuit.

Peter went down to the Mermaid lagoon to find his friends, Latchboy and Tootles, waiting for him. "Hello Boys." Peter greeted the two of them, "So tell me, Where are the water breathers?" he looked out over water. There wasn't a mermaid in sight.

"They're sitting around Marooner's Rock." Latchboy pointed. He was a tall stocky sort of boy with shaggy blond hair like Felix. He was kind of the more serious of Peter's bunch, but he knew when to relax. His younger brother, tootles had a similar appearance as him, but he was a bit thinner with slightly darker hair and softer features.

"I see," Peter looked past the boys and saw they were right. There were about six mermaids sitting and huddling together near the dreaded rock. He glared at them. Thinking back on what had nearly happened there at that rock. It made him cringe inwardly. He hated himself for being so weak at the time, but he knew it was necessary. If it hadn't have happened, he wouldn't have known to keep Danielle.

"Well then." Peter sighed and walked over to edge of the water, "Let's get this over with." He exhaled deeply and cupped his hands over his mouth and let out a loud crow.

The mermaids looked up and smiled at him. They each jumped into the water with a light splash and swam to shore to greet him. "Hello Peter." One of the mermaids grinned seductively at him, "We haven't seen you in a while."

"Not nearly long enough." He rolled his eyes.

"Why don't you come in the water?" Another mermaid smiled, batting her eyelashes at him, "We had so much fun last time." Peter cringed. "Why don't you come swim with us?"

"Yeah! Come swim with us Peter!"

"Come swim with us!"

"Enough!" Peter shouted, effectively silencing the crowd of mermaids, "You all called me here to talk, so talk. I haven't got all day."

"Aww. What's the rush Peter? Don't you want to have some fun?"

"Not with finned freaks like you." He arched a brow and shook his head, "I think I'll pass."

"Ah!" One of the mermaids glared at him, she sounded offended, "How rude!"

"Perhaps your friends would like to play with us." A blond mermaid started to eye his boys, "I do love your older boys, Pan…" She grinned at them, but Peter quickly stepped in front of her and blocked her view.

"My boys would like to stay where they are." He told her firmly. His voice sounded nice enough, but his eyes warned them to back off, which thankfully they did.

"Fine." The mermaid looked up at him annoyed, but backed away from the shore. "Their loss."

"Ladies. Ladies." A voice rung out over the water. It was the merman that tried to drown Danielle when she first arrived, "Stop pestering the boy. He's right, we called him here for a reason and I suggest we go ahead and tell him."

Peter eyed the Merman with a rather somber expression. Then narrowed his eyes, "Finally. About time."

Danielle and Tigerlily laughed as they ran through the forest. Behind the lost boys weren't far away, but they were having a rather difficult time keeping up with the girls. In fact the ladies had almost lost them, but then they heard Danielle scream. Her foot was caught in a noose and she got herself strung up in a tree.

"What the hell?" She screamed, "What is this? Get me down from here!"

Tigerlily shook her head, "It looks like got yourself caught in an Snare." She looked around for a way to possibly to cut her down but found none, "A really good one too."

"What's going on?" The boys finally found them. They started chuckling when they saw the lost girl strung upside down from the tree.

"Well it would seem that we triggered someone's snare trap." Tigerlily explained to them, "You wouldn't happen to be able to cut her down would you?"

"Sure, no problem." Ace nodded and pulled out his bow and notched it with an arrow, "Just hold still, Milady."

"Oh hell no!" Danielle started trashing around, "You are not shooting me down with an arrow! You could miss! Listen! I have a knife!" She yelled, pulling it out of her belt pouch, "I'll cut myself-" but then she dropped it, "…Down... Shit."

"What was that you were saying about us being a bunch of dumb boys earlier?" Slighly smirked at her.

The little tan-skinned lost girl looked down and glared at him, "Shut it."

"What the bloody hell is this?!" A voice raged behind them. Everyone looked over to see a rather beautiful, but wild looking woman wearing her blond her up in a messy bun and had on some rather dark dirty green clothes. She looked positively livid, "Do you have any idea how long it took me to make that snare? Nowit's ruined! How am I supposed to catch anything to eat now?"

"Hello to you too, Tink." Tigerlily rolled her eyes.

"Don't go rolling your eyes at me, Princess, or I'll pluck them out." The ex-fairy warned.

"You're Tinkerbelle?" Danielle looked down at her in awe, "I can't believe it!"

"Yes, that seems to be one of my many problems these days." She snapped. Then she pulled out a small thin knife and scrapped it over a nearby tree, it had a rope on it, "Now if you would be so kind as to get out of the tree," Danielle suddenly fell to the ground, but thankfully slightly was there to catch her, "as it seems I need to set up my snare trap. Again."

"Wait! But you're really Tinkerbelle!" The lost girl got to her feet, "Peter Pan's Fairy!"

"I am NOT his fairy!" Tink quickly corrected her, "I'm not even a fairy to begin with."

Danielle looked at her confused. She remembered Peter mentioning this, but didn't believe at the time. Now however she saw the truth of his words. The woman before her was dirty and bitter. Hardly fairy like at all. It was hard to imagine her being the little spitfire pixie from the movies, but then again Peter wasn't anything like her world said he would be either. No, this Neverland in general was darker and more violent than any of the tales of her child. Perhaps they were always supposed to have been that way to begin with, but people changed it over the years to make them more suitable for children. Disney had a way of doing that to every story given to them. She remembered when she read some of the original Grimm fairytales and found they were all vastly different compared to their movies. Maybe the same thing happened when the author of Peter wrote the story. He found the true story too dark for his liking and lightened up. Not that she blamed the man. She could honestly say she preferred the lighter version to this world as well, but she finding that she was getting used to it though.

"She used to be." Tigerlily explained to her, "But she lost her wings."

"Who is this?" The ex-fairy threw a hand in the lost girl's direction, "Please don't tell me this is the girl Pan is keeping."

"You know about me?"

"Sweet heart, who doesn't know about you?" The fairy rolled her eyes, "You're the first girl Pan has ever kept, a thing like that doesn't go unnoticed here in Neverland."

"Good to know." Danielle nodded and watched as the ex-fairy moved back to the tree and tried to set the trap again. The lost girl turned towards the boys, then turned back to the fairy, "You don't have to do that. The boys can get you something to eat. Tigerlily and I will help you take all this back to your house."

"What?" Slightly's mouth dropped and he looked like he was about to whine, but he was quickly silenced by one of her glares.

"You'd do that for me?" Tink stared at them with half lidded eyes and arched a brow.

"Yup, we were the ones that ruined your chances of catching any food. The least we can do is catch it for you."

"You mean you ruined her chances of catching any food. You're the one that set off the trap." Jack glared at her.

Danielle growled and shot a look at the lost boy, "No. WE. Don't you guys forget you were the ones who chased me into it."

"Come one guys." Ace patted his brother on the back, "It's not like it'd be hard. We'll just go find a boar or something and we'll bring it back. It's no big deal." He started leading them away, "We'll meet you at Tink's house in a bit girls. We'll find something good."

"You better!" Tink yelled after them. Then turned towards the girl and gave them an awkward smile, "Um, Thank you I guess. I wouldn't think anyone from Pan's gang would offer something like that."

"Well she not just anyone." Tigerlily looked down at Danielle with a smile, "Like you said earlier: She is the first girl Pan has ever kept. The very first true lost girl."

"Indeed." Tinkerbelle wrapped up the rope. "Take these and go my house." She handed her equipment to Tigerlily, "I assume you know the way."

"Yup." The princess nodded and walked off into the woods.

The Tinkerbelle turned back to Danielle, "Here, you carry this." She gave her the rest.

"Okay." The lost girl nodded.

Then suddenly Danielle noticed the woman was looking down at her with a curious expression that quickly turned to a little smirk, "Interesting."

"Excuse me?" Danielle pushed her brows together.

"Oh nothing!" The ex-fairy grinned and started leading the little lost girl to her house, "never mind me." She chuckled.

The merman looked up at Pan. "Hello there Peter, do you remember me?"

"I do." Peter nodded at him, "You tried to drown my lost girl."

"I did." He grinned, "The name is Undertow. I'm Sebastian's new replacement."

Peter cocked a brow, "Is that so?" He knelt down next to the water and smirk down at the black-haired merman, "Then I assume you heard what I did to him then, right?"

The merman's smile faltered a bit, but remained on his face confidently, "I did."

The immortal boy smiled, "Good. Then you have a good idea what happens to those who cross me. Knowing that, what is it that you have to say to me?"

The merman's expression turned somber, "Morgana knows about the girl. She wants her off the island."

"Well you can tell her tentacleness that I don't give a damn if she wants. The girl stays and I'm keeping the girl whether your master likes it or not."

"She won't."

"Well that's not my problem." Peter shrugged.

"It will be when she comes down here and drowns your island. It'd be the price you'll pay for breaking your deal with her. It clearly states-"

"That I can't keep girls that don't belong here." Peter finished for him, "Yeah yeah, I know. But that's the thing. She does belong here, more than any of us in fact. And if that old hag thinks she can waltz up here and challenge me, she has another thing coming."

"She did it before." The merman smirked.

"Well it won't work again." He warned, turning away, "Now get. We have nothing else to talk about."

"Fine." Undertow scoffed, "But know if you don't change your mind soon, it's your funeral, Pan!"

"No." Peter shook his head. Then suddenly his shadow came down and ripped the shadow off the blond mermaid that had looked at his boys. All the other mermaids screamed and swam away while Undertow just floated there, staring at the scene in silent horror. "It'll be yours."

Once the Boys came to Tink's house with the deer they caught, Tinkerbelle went ahead and decided to let them all stay for dinner. Right now they were eating and the boys were arguing with Tigerlily over some funny event back before Danielle ever came to Neverland. So the lost girl just sat back and watched the conversation run on between her friends. It was amusing to watch.

Danielle took a bite of the bananas on her plate when Tinkerbelle suddenly looked over to her and started talking, "So how are you enjoying you stay in Neverland?" She asked.

The dark-haired girl looked up at the ex-fairy and shrugged. "It's fine I suppose. I've been having a really good time lately with the lost boys."

"But?"

"But I wish it'd had been my decision to come here, you know? It sucks when you're forced to stay someplace you don't want be."

"Hey! You were the one who made the wish, next time be more careful."

Danielle looked at her curiously, "What are you talking about?"

"You don't remember?"

The lost girl shook her head.

"You wished for your happy ending. You actually wished it upon Neverland and because of that it became true. So naturally, you got it."

"What?" Danielle pushed her brows together and shook her head, "I don't remember that."

"That's not surprising. Most people come here dazed after riding the shadow."

"That's an understatement." The lost girl let out a humorless laugh.

"Indeed." The ex-fairy nodded.

"So how would you know if I made this wish? I thought you weren't a fairy anymore?"

"I'm not." Tink shook her head, "But I still can feel the wishes in people's hearts, especially if they're made upon magical things. Just because I lost my wings doesn't mean I've lost all my talents."

"So why would it had brought me here?" Danielle cocked a brow, "My wish I mean? How is being here helping my get my happy ending? My life was just turning around in my world. I was going to get a scholarship to a good college, eventually get a job and make something of myself! Why would my wish take me away from that?"

"Well is that what you really want?" Tink shrugged.

"Yes, of course is!" Danielle nodded, "It's what everyone wants in my world! That's what my family wanted for me, too!"

"But is it what you wanted?" Tink locked eyes with the lost girl, but the young one turned away."

"I think it is." She shrugged, "It's what I've been towards."

"Okay let's think of this in another way." The ex-fairy tilted her head, "Comparing your life here to the one you had there, Where were you happiest?"

Danielle paused to consider this for a second. In her world she had it rough. She had to work herself to the bone to get her money and then work even harder with her studies to make her grades. None of her foster parents ever took the time to care for her, not really. She had to do everything herself, cook, clean, buy her clothes, she had to take care of it herself. Her childhood ended the day her parents died, but in Neverland it was all different.

All her needs were met here. Peter and the lost boys provided it all, the food, her clothes. Then she made friends there, Slightly, the twins, and Tigerlily! She never had so many before. Working so much left little time to make friends back in her world. The only reason she made friends with Maria was because they were always put together in school and work, but deep down the lost girl knew that her friend would eventually move on from her if she remained in Neverland and she would have only been a passing memory by the end of the year. She was that easy to replace.

Then finally, there was Peter. Danielle didn't know how to feel about him. He scared her when they first met, the boy was cocky, violent, and had a frightening gleam in his eye when he looked at her. He even threatened to kill her, too, but he was different now. Though they fought quite a bit still, he never touched her or did anything to hurt her. Which was more than she could say about her foster parents. She knew he went out of his way to make her comfortable and look after her the best he could. Any fool could see that, but every time she looked at him, she reminded herself that he was her kidnapper and she would make herself angry at him all over again. And you know what? She should still be mad at him. Just because he made the deal with her didn't change any of that! However, somehow that infernal boy would always find a way to make her smile. She hated to admit it, but it was true. She couldn't stay mad at him no matter how hard she tried. He would always do something to disarm her hatred, a gift, a joke, a surprise, he'd always have something up his sleeve to put her in a better mood or brighten her day and honesty, she liked it. A lot even. No one ever took the time to make her happy before, it was a rather nice change of pace. However she just couldn't seem to figure out why he was doing all this though, but she figured eventually time would tell.

Danielle looked at the fairy and before she could even stop herself, she finally replied, "Here, in Neverland."

Tink smirked, "Well then, there you go. That's why your wish brought you here."

"I guess." The lost girl shrugged.

"Who knows, your true love might even be here as well."

"Ha, Right!" Danielle laughed, "That will be the day." Then continued on eating her dinner.

"You never know!" Tink chuckled, then suddenly her expression turned serious as she started fiddling with her food, "But Danielle. You need to remember something."

"What?" The lost girl looked at her and tilted her head.

"All magic comes with a price." She warned the girl, "Especially wishes. They always come back to haunt you. So just be careful out there, okay?"

"Don't worry, I'll be fine." The lost girl assured her, "Besides, what's the worst that could happen?"

"You be surprised."

As night approached them. Tigerlily left back to her village while Danielle and the boys made their way to the camp. They were all so happy after spending time together, that they missed the dark shadow leering down at them from above with a pair of wicked purple eyes. It wasn't a shadow of Peter's making, but it just sat there and watched the children as the went on walking their way back home. They were completely unaware of it presents as well as the grief it would cause them all in the future. Not that they could have done anything to stop it. It was the price of Danielle's wish and it needed to be paid.
