Meredith's POV

I honestly didn't know what to say. The song was amazing! To say I shocked by his amazing talent was an understatement. I was impressed. I can't believe Uncle Gus said he had no talent.

"Is your speechlessness right now a good thing or a bad thing?"

"Defiantly good because that was amazing!" I said finding my voice.

"You liked it, really?" His faced beamed, a tiny tent of red spreading across it.

"I loved it! You're a natural song writer James." I smiled.

"Thanks but if you saw me pulling my hair out last night you wouldn't think so." He replied bashfully.

"Hey sometimes a good hair pulling is what gives you a great song," I chuckled, " I've spent many nights wondering the studio, pulling my hair out, tying to write my next big song."

We both laughed and fell into a confortable silence. I'm not sure what James was thinking about but I was thinking about the lyrics He had just sung. I couldn't help but crack up when I got to the part about him trying to grow a mustache.

"What's so funny?" James raised an eyebrow.

" Oh nothing trying to picture you looking like Magnum when you grow a mustache." I tried to keep from laughing but that just made me laugh harder. James started laughing too.

" I'll take that as a compliment Tom Selleck isn't a bad looking guy." He tried to keep a straight face after he said it, but we took one took at each other and busted out laughing again.

"So." James said after we finally manage to clam down enough to speak.

"So what?" I asked with a smirk.

"It's your turn. I told you all about me." He returned my smirk.

I tired to keep my face from falling, but I know he saw it. Its not that I didn't want to tell him I did. I just wanted him to get the real version. Not the one the seventy-five different versions running around out there from all the TV and magazine interviews.

Digging down in my bag, pulled out a purple Frisbee. Most of the time I'd spent getting ready for this date, I'd spent trying to think of a different way for us to get to know each other. Clearly James had beaten me in the originality category. I was still pretty proud of what I'd come up with when I found that Frisbee sticking out from under my bed. Don't ask me how it got under there cause I haven't a clue.

"Catch." I tossed it to him and stood up. James caught it and also stood. He looks so cute when he's confused.

"Don't get me wrong here but how is tossing a Frisbee gonna help me get to know you?"

"Simple really. Were gonna play horse. If I catch it I get to ask you a question, but if I drop it I don't get to ask you anything, and I get a letter in vice versa. First to spell out the word Frisbee loses." I smiled. Like I said I was pretty proud of myself for coming up with this right before I left the house today.

"So it's more like a combination of horse and 20 questions. Sounds challenging and I'm always up for a challenge." James smiled and tossed the Frisbee into the air.

I caught it and asked the first question that popped into my head. "What's your favorite flavor of ice cream?"

"Chocolate chip cookie dough." James smiled as I tossed the Frisbee into the air.

"That's my favorite too." I said as he caught the Frisbee effortlessly. Ok I'll admit I was totally staring at his muscles flexing under that blue shirt.

"Favorite TV show?" He asked after thinking for a minute.

"I have two actually. Dances Moms and Supernatural! You?"

"Entourage and Family Guy, but Supernatural is cool too though. Dean's car is so sweet." He tossed the Frisbee back with a little too much force. It flew over my head.

"I thought you weren't really into cars." I laughed quoting his lyrics as I went to get the Frisbee.

"I'm not but Dean's 67 Impala is an exception to the rule. By the way you have an F now." He smiled all innocence like.

"I know." I smirked and threw the Frisbee as hard as I could. Of course he caught it easily.

"What kind of music do you like to listen to?" He asked.

"Rock, country, pop, but mostly rock"

"Cool do you have a favorite band?"

"Yup, Metallica! Nothing Else Matters has got to be one of my favorite songs."

"Really you never struck me as someone who listens to metal."

"Why because I'm a pop star?" I've never even told Kelly or Camille that I love Metallica.

"No not at all. I've just never met a girl who likes that kind of music before." He smiled once again tossing the Frisbee into the air. This time I jumped straight up in the air and caught it before it could fly over my head.

"Dang nice catch!"

"Thanks." I'm pretty sure my face is beat red right now " So did you ever have a pre game ritual when you played hockey?"

" Funny you should ask that." He laughed, " everyone had their own little rituals, but as a team we'd listen to Metallica, Zepplin, Linkin Park or even Bon Jovi sometimes to get everyone pumped up before we'd hit the ice."

"Bon Jovi?"

"Hey Bon Jovi rocks… On occasion." We both cracked up the Supernatural quote as I tossed the Frisbee into the air and as luck would have it the wind caught and it sailed over James' head.

" That would be a letter for you." I said smugly. Gotta love Karma especially right now.

"Yeah yeah." James laughed bending over to get the Frisbee. I hope he can't feel me staring at his butt right now, but hey its cute.

We continued to play until I had FRISB and James had FRIS. Up until now we'd only been asking each other the simple questions, but I knew James was gonna ask the one question I had been dreading.

"I know this is kinda personal but how did you end up living with Gustavo anyways?" James played nervously with the Frisbee almost as he was embarrassed for asking something so personal. It was weird this question for once, wasn't being asked by someone who just wanted a good story, instead it was coming for a friend who as just generally curious. There was a different feel this time. When the press asks why I live with my uncle. I just say it was easier for my career, but when James asked it wanted to tell him everything. I took a deep breath before I began.

"Gustavo has had custody of me since I was four years old. My mother was only like eighteen when she got pregnant with me and I don't think she had a clue who my father was. She wasn't able to take care of herself let alone a baby. So Uncle Gus took us in, Boyquake had just taken off and he was doing really well. Just after I turned three my mom got a job offer in another state but couldn't take me until she had some money. Somewhere along the line while she was gone, Uncle Gus and I, We just bonded. He would sing me to sleep at night and take me to the studio with him. Which was when he discovered I could carry a tune," I smiled at the memory, " and would probably be a great singer one day. When my mother came back to take me Uncle Gus wouldn't let her and filed for custody the next day. That's one of my earliest memories crying for Uncle Gus that day." I finished. I looked down so I could wipe the unshed tears from my eyes. That's the last thing I needed was for James to see me cry. Suddenly I felt an arm around my shoulders. I lifted my head and saw James standing there with a soft smile on his face.

" Thanks for sharing something so personal with me, that you've never even told the press, I know it wasn't easy. Gustavo was wrong you know, you're not a great singer, you're an amazing singer."

"You are so corny." I smiled pushing him away playfully, " You're right it wasn't easy to talk about, but I'm glad I told you. Wait how did you know I've never told that story to the press?"

" Kendall worked at the local grocery store back in Minnesota. We spent a lot of time in the magazine aisle waiting for Kendall's shift to end. I've read almost every issue of Pop Tiger and every magazine like it. Gustavo's creepy glare wasn't the only reason I got nervous at my audition. After all my celebrity crush was there too." He caught my eyes in his stare. God his hazel eyes gorgeous. I thought for a second he was going to kiss me but at the last second he broke the eye contact and turned away.

"So umm so do, do you ever get to see your mom?" James stuttered over his words. I laughed not only at his question but also at how cute his nervousness was.

"Once when I was twelve and she decided she wanted me back. She had shown up out of the blue demanding full custody. She made up this big sob story on how I needed a female presence in my life. She didn't know about Kelly at the time." I smiled; as much as Kelly and I bicker I love her death. She's always been there for me when I needed her.

"You and Kelly are a lot closer than you put on aren't you?" James asked mischievously.

" Yeah, even though we don't always show it, we are." I smiled again, "She's more like a big sister than a mom though."

Somewhere in the middle of my story, our game was forgotten and we'd made our back over to the blanket.

"I can see it when I see you guys together. Just like me and the guys. We fight all the time but we still love each other." James replied. I could almost see the memories flashing in his hazel eyes. For a minute we both got lost in our thoughts. I don't think I've ever been this open and honest with someone before.

"Hey would you like a sandwich and a cookie?" James asked interrupting my thoughts.

"Sure I haven't eaten anything since before my interview this afternoon." I said taking the sandwich he handed me.

"I almost forgot about these. The guys made them so I'm not exactly sure they're edible." He laughed before taking a big bite of his sandwich. I looked at mine; it looked like a simple PB&J to me. I shrugged and took a bite. It was actually pretty good.

"So not bad for a date on a dare right?" James asked we as finished eating.

"Defiantly not bad." That's when it hit me. This was just a dare. What's gonna happen between us after tonight? I'm not gonna think about it right now.

"The sunset is beautiful huh?" I changed the subject. We turned to watch the sunset.

"Yeah you are err I mean it is!" James stammered. Did he just call me beautiful? I felt my face heat up. Out of nowhere my phone buzzed loudly and caused us both to jump. We looked at each other and laughed.

"Its Kelly telling to get home. The Limo is on its way." I quoted the text to James.

We picked up the picnic, James grabbed the guitar, and we headed for the lobby. We could see the limo waiting as we walked through the back door. James looked in awe of it. I couldn't help but laugh at the look on his face.

"Don't worry some day soon that will be you're limo picking you up and taking you to some big Hollywood party."

"You really think so?" He questioned as we walked.

" I know so," I said walking up to the door, " Thanks for an awesome afternoon James. I had a great time."

"Me too! See you at the studio tomorrow." He waved as Norman, the driver, opened the limo door for me. I waved back as I got in.

"He seems like a nice young man Miss Meredith." Norman stated.

"Thanks Norman and he is."

In no time we arrived at the mansion. The whole ride home I kept thinking about James and how open and real I had been with him. I pulled myself out of the back seat when Norman opened the door.

"Thanks for coming and getting me Norman." I smiled.

"Your welcome as always Miss Meredith."

I walked in the house. It was quiet too quiet. Normally I hear Uncle Gus yelling at his piano when I walk in.

"I'm home Uncle Gus!" I shouted. It echoed through the large house.

"We're in the media room." Came Uncle Gus' reply. He and Kelly must be working late again. I put my bag down by the steps and headed for the media room to see what they were up too. Not paying attention as walked, I pulled out my phone to text James and tell him I made it back ok, I asked.

"What are you and Kelly working on so late?"

"Kelly and I aren't working on anything." I looked up from my phone from where I was standing in the doorway. My jaw dropped. What was she doing here?

"Mom?"
